Where can I find a beginners guide to using PHP with Flex?
Ive tried the following:

both apps use the amfPhp to send info back and forth from
flex to php to pull information from the database. all the movies
and info on the movies come from the database. The info, image
names etc on the robot advisor also come from the database.

Can you recommend a simple guide to codecs? Or answer this please- should I be using a different codec for each type of output- DVD, web, CDROM, or do I just choose one and adjust FPS and size of image accordingly?

The answer is yes - each of those media have a different set of requirements based on length of show, perceived acceptable quality and size.
Dvd - apple have pretty much got most people covered with either iMovie and iDVD or the fcp, Compressor dvd sp route.
Web - whole other thing and you really need to decide who the audience is. Streaming or not. Mostly people opt for a .mov and a .wmv
CDRom - Interactive Content is a different kettle of fish again. I think Director (the app) still rules the roost, but it may not. Content is assembled .... somehow - and that's about as far as I'll go with Director. (never could get the hang of it).
You need to be specific when looking at delivery on different media.
Edit using the highest possible quality - 'coz the compression slope is a slippery one at best.

Need simple guide to re-installing 10.7

What I would like is a simple guide to re-installing 10.7 (I have the disks) without losing all my itunes play count and having to reimport all my pictures?.I have backed up all my files. I have a MacBook Pro with 4GB memory no extensions apart from Sophos antivirus.
Why I wish to do this? 10.8 and above are completely unuseable because of speed issues and the spinning beachball of death (this is due to the fact that launching an application that also accesses the network whilst another network application is open causes the spinning beachball of death on anything above 10.7, so itunes, safari, mail cannot be used together). I also like my scrollbars and apps such as iphoto to work properly. At the moment I am using a cheap PC and an old 10.6 machine for everyday work where I need my computer to be functionally useable.

The mesage boards are flooded with slow mac problems. Flat denial (or the declaring black is white strategy) does not help those who have severe problems. For your information, I bought a brand new top spec MacBook, only used the software that came with the machine and still had severe speed and useability problems. My main solution was to buy a cheap PC so I had a functional computer for everyday tasks, it was less effort than the two weeks I spent following the speed up advice in the forums. What users need is simple solutions, apple have lost their easy to use and maintain ethos.
     It is no good saying follow all these tedious hard to understand steps, that defeats the idea of a useable easy to maintain machine.
      It is no good saying don't install extensions, most users want to use flash player and install privacy extensions to Safari. Computers and OS's have to be fit for purpose and changing their capabilities is a retrograde step.
     It is no good saying scrollbars are an optional extra (that don't work as well as they used to), this decreases the useability of the interface.
     It is no good saying upgrade your machine, this is the microsoft strategy of old and it ****** off users.
In short apple have dropped the useability ball and it *****. Mavericks and the previous system are unuseable for a significant proportion of normal users. What are needed are fixes to the actual problems caused by network access conflicts.

VERY simple guide to MDT

I am looking for a very simple guide to getting an MDT server online that duplicates Ghost's capabilities. I don't need 1,531 pages of planning and scripting documentation.
I want to:
Boot WinPE on a PC.
Push whatever is on that computer up to the server.
Boot WinPE on new PC.
Pull whatever is on the server down to the PC.
No pushing of applications post-install. Just. Really. Basic.
Until we got some new PCs that don't have WinPE 2 friendly NIC drivers, unattend files, sysprep and Ghost were just fine.

I understand simple, but I'll 'warn' you upfront that choices made without thinking them through may have consequences later.
In your case: install MDT, configure a share, look for an example what to do with your bootstrap.ini and customsettings.ini (there are many examples around, I have written some also)
Then build your reference PC (since you mention PC, I wouldn't dare to advise you building it in a VM like it's supposed to be done) then create a sysprep and capture task sequence, capture the image.
Create a deployment task sequence and push the image to targetted computers.
To automate things even a little bit more, you may want to consider:
WDS for PXE boot
DFS for replication to branche offices
And Ghost btw is so 2006. You almost make it sound like a punishment working with a great tool such as MDT!

PHP simple question...or is it?

I am trying to build an application in which only I have
access to. I have downloaded this mini php app which allows me to
make a login page and secure my other pages. I have made all the
pages including a form for each with multiple text boxes within the
forms. Now I just need to know...HOW DO I POST THEM? I've been
reading books and trying other internet sources but I think I'm
missing something. Do I need to create recordsets in the text
boxes? What function do I put after form action:""? Do I have to
put the php code to access the database for each page? ...and to
break the connection? I just want to post info into phpMyAdmin. I

On Arch it isnt throwing any error, but it is doing nothing (and extremly fast, normally it works very long). Somebody knows why it isnt working on Arch?

Well... putting your file in my Arch web server gives me a but of errors (as expected) but the files is definitely read and processed.

Simple guide for using SQLite Manager with Mac Firefox browsing history

Is there a basic beginner step-by-step guide (rather then a detailed user manual) on using SQLite Manager to work with Mac Firefox browsing history? Thank you!

Firefox doesn't have many option to mange the History.
You can only delete items or copy and paste them to bookmarks.
Using the SQLite Manager extension to make changes to the History is not really recommended because a lot of tables are involved. 
The extension is suited to inspect or export specific entries occasionally, but not for doing more complicated operations.

A simple guide?

Is there anything like a simply guide or howto that tells, in a few steps, how to create something like a web-application representing a single table, in JDeveloper? Something like a 'Hello World' program. I have tried to fight my way through much of the documentation, and it is almost impossible to keep the thread, at least for me; what seems to be lacking is an overview along the lines:
Step 1: Create a table; do like this ...
Step 2: Create a database connection - click on ...
Step 3 Create .... this is where I begin to loose the plot, because the documentation gets extremely longwinded and is full of business and/or Java jargon.

Jdeveloper enables to work with different technologies which can be associated or not (EJB, Toplink, ADF, ADFBC, others). Some of them will need licences when you will use it in production. People on this forum or elsewhere will probably say to you "work with this... work with that", but this choice of technologies only depends on your goals and your resources. I assume you will not have enough time to completely understand how working with all these possibilities (or you will start your project in one or two years).
So my advice is try to have a quick lookaround of what is possible by using the different tutorials and don't forget that this forum and Google are probably your best partners for the next weeks.

I simple guide to PreComiling JSPs

Ok.. it took me a bit to get this working so i thought i might save other the trouble. First lets get a few things out of the way.
Im using:
tomcat 4.1.24
netbeans 3.5
ant 1.5.3
ok.. so here the problem some people may run into... ant.1.5.3 contains an optional task <jscp/>. Howerver so does Tomcat .. and oh wait so does netbeans!? and guess what none of them are in sinc with one another.. so if you use netbeans and you try to use the latest documentation for your tomcat installation re: jasper jspc commands.. good luck.. cause it just wont work properly.
So the solution is to not use the premade tasks and instead use something more generic and specific!
Let us assume that you are using the latest tomcat version. Given that this is the origin of the jspc command an will ultimately be the code that is run to change your jsp pages to servlets.. this is all we really care about. So if we right an ant task that passes our parameters directly to the jspc command.. we will know that we are using latest and greatest version every time.

Does it handle the case when you've got the same name for a .jsp file in different directories (e.g. welcome.jsp in several places? All the other jsp precompilation strategies I've seen end up putting the .class files in the same module and breaking this simple case.

Simple guide to Migrate SL Server Wiki 10.6.8 to Lion Server 10.7.2

These instructions assumes that you already have the Wiki server functional on the new OSX Lion Server 10.7.2 and that you are logged in as a system administrator.
On the SL Server, browse to \Library\Collaboration and right click on the Collaboration folder and click "Get Info"
Scroll all the way to the bottom and expand "Sharing & Permissions"
If the Lock icon shows to be locked, click it and enter an Administrators password associated with the user account you are logged in under. Make sure the permissions for "Everyone" are set to "Read & Write". Then click on the small Gear icon below that and select "Apply to Enclosed Items". It will ask you if you are sure, tell it yes.
Now copy the Collaborations folder to the new Lion Server. Create the following directory to save the files too. \myoldwiki It will probably ask you to authenticate making a new folder at the root of the drive. So if prompted, tell it to allow and enter your administrator password is prompted. So now you have \myoldwiki\collaboration at the root of your new lion server.
Open Safari and browse to http://localhost on your Lion Server to verify that your existing server is working. If you get the "Welcome to OS X Lion Server" page with several icons for My page, Updates, Wikis, People, & Podcasts then your server is working. If not, see "Setting up OS X Lion Wiki Server". (An article that has not yet been written-Soon to follow)
If you click on Wikis, and if this is a fresh install, you will not see any wiki pages listed. On the top right of the web page, click on the + sign to create a new wiki. You can name it Test Wiki like I did and then create the page. Once created, go to it to make sure that its there.
Once your new Wiki server is confirmed to be functional, open terminal and enter the following command:
sudo wikiadmin migrate -r /myoldwiki/collaboration
Then press Enter/Return. Enter your users password if prompted. (Remember, passwords do not use echo in terminal so you will not see your password as you type it. Press Enter/Return again and you should see something similar to the following:

Depending on the size of your wiki on SL Server, and depending on how many pages and attachments you have installed on it, this process could take anywhere from several seconds to several minutes. Also your entry may vary from mine above depending on how many pages you have as well. I currently only have 6 pages as you can see. Overall, the end result is what you want to see: "Migration complete". This is a very good sign.
If you get a lot of errors like i did my first time trying to do this, I found that i forgot to turn on and verify that my new Lion Server web server and wiki page were fully functional prior to starting the migration. So if you get several errors that look similar to this.......

You need to check your web server and wiki settings again.
Once everything is complete, you will need to go into your Server app on Lion Server and turn off the web server and also the wiki server. After about a minute or so, restart the web server then the wiki server and give it about 30 seconds or so to completely come back online. Now browse to http://localhost on the Lion Server and you should once again see the "Welcome to OS X Lion Server" page. Click on wikis and you should see the list of wikis you imported as well as the test wiki you created earlier. This will confirm that the files have been truly copied to the proper location for wikis on the new Lion Server.
At this point, your old wiki pages are ready to be used on your new OS X Lion Server.
There is a drawback with this process. Since you are moving ONLY the wiki database over to the new machine, all of the original users and groups is not transferred. As you can see i have 6 wikis and 2 users. This process doe not import the users and their configurations over to the new server. That process is completed by "Exporting" the "Server Admin Settings" & "Service Settings" from the SL Server "Server Admin" and importing them in the reversed fashion on the new Lion Server using Server Admin on the new server. This, however, is for another tutorial yet to be written. Mostly because i have yet to do it.

Sound for Apps, Simple Guide?

Ok so i want to do some sound stuff like play some short audio clips. I can have them in any kind of format but it seems like i should be able to do wav. So now how do initialize a sound file and play it. There are some tutorials out there and most of them cover sound in applets. And very few do it with applications. And the problem is that they do complex stuff, they dont even tell u how to intialize the sound file. So either can someone give me some basic code or point me to a good site/ tutorial.

Yes, the class is long and complicated, but it solves a big complicated problem.
The method playShortClip near the bottom of that code does just that. It uses the applet support, but it can be used anywhere. It is restricted to short clips in PCM encoding. The playClip method does the same thing for more difficult cases.

Channel.Connect.Failed (http 501) error when trying to connect to a remote php gateway

this is my first app to access remote data, and i am trying to build both clieant and server side
i am working on a flashbuilder 4.6 and php simple system.
I use the php data wizard to build my php code/services and develop locally on a wamp server, configuring the local mysql db with phpmyadmin. the wizard itself enables the zend framework needed
locally, all looks fine
i am trying out deployment to my real, linux based remote server, and for the first step I uploaded my php services to the remote server
i used this guide by Mihai Corlan and when testing my app i get an Alert with
Send failed
Channel.Connect.Failed error NetConnection.Call.Failed: HTTP: Status 501: url: 'http://(my domain + file structure to..)gateway.php'
so i guess even before i get to see if i changed the amf_config.ini and gateway.php itself and the services properly for deployment i am unable to connect to the gateway, correct?
http 501 is something about html headers? i dont know any html, any php, any sql just as3 and mxml
can anyone help?

I do get "Zend Amf Endpoint" - as well - the app works perfectly when testing on my desktop as iphone4 simulation and on android, just not on my 4s device.
as a side note, i can even browse to the gateway.php that I have set up via safari on the device. That makes me think that theres just some dumb http entitlement or "allow" setting for ios that I'm not finding.

I thought I would write up a really quick but effecti've and simple guide for owners of the Audigy2 ZS and seeing how its Xmas time, I can assume a few lucky boys and girls may have this awesome card under the tree.
Most of whats covered should work with all creative products.
(Sorry, but I WILL NOT cover any info regarding encoding media or the like that will conflict with copyright laws)
This guide is for setting up your Creative Audigy 2 ZS for surround sound 5. reproduction and information in regards to required Filters/Codecs. I have not included any advanced set up options or the like as the ZS with the set ups I have incluced here will cover it out of the box.
One of the most common issues people may have with 5. not fuctioning correctly while playing a DVD movie ( Mpeg ) or any multi channel media that is 5. encoded, has to do with Codecs/Filters.
Most media players will not decode all AC3filters/Mpeg, thus require extra filters/codecs/plugins to be installed.
Ok , the first thing to do is ensure your sound card and speakers are set up correctly.
Most common speaker sets have 3 plugs that go in the back of your card .
EG, Logitech X-530. Pink = Front Centre.Black = Rear left and right. Green = Front left and right.
Ensure they are in the correct place and are tightly fitted.Ensure your sound card is secure and tightly in place.Make sure your speaker cables are tidy and not a big tangled mess.
Ensure in device audio controls that SPDIF passthrough is NOT ticked as this is for optical output ( the ZS pro with rack fuction )
Update to the latest drivers an media source ap

A few little things to set up first in Creative Mixer Control Panel to ensure cleaner sound:
Lower Master and Wav volume in Creative mixer to about 90% as to avoid any over dri've disstortion.Lower Master Bass Volume to about 90% to avoid over powering the bass.Ensure that your speaker settings Windows control panel and Creative speaker settings match your speaker set up..
Also run the THX Speaker Callibration test in basic mode.
YOU SHOULD DISSABLE CMSS IN EAX CP IN ORDER TO GET 5. TO FUCTION AS IT SHOULD.
CMSS is to be use only for a MONO or STEREO source/signal. It is for sending the stereo/mono signal ( left and right) to all speakers. This is not 5., mearly it is the same signal sent to all speakers to give you a more rich and vivid sound reproduction of an other wise flat source.
Turn off any EAX FX.
Things you want to do to ensure stable use:
SHUT DOWN CTHELPER:
A background task that is a plug-in manager for Creative drivers. A 3rd party manufacturer can use the CTHELPER plug-in interface to produce drivers, add-on features, and fixes that will integrate with a tighter fit with Creative?s sound drivers and utilities. Gi'ven its purpose CTHELPER would normally be classified as a "leave alone" background task. It also allows Creative speaker setup to be synchronized with Windows Control Panel speaker setting. Without it running that check box in Creative speaker setting is not functional (settings are not in sync). Unfortunately there are often problems with CTHELPER, most notably that it can use 00% of CPU time so it's best left disabled unless you REALLY need it .
Type in run "msconfig" and shut down all Creative Start up entries. Infact its proberly best to shut everything down.
NOTE: Any essentinal Software for the proper fuction of devices ,Eg: Razer mouse utils should be left on.
Simple Bios settings to help improve audio and stablity:
Dissable Pallette Snoop.ANY AND ALL shadows for devices, EG VGA BIOS and system bios should be dissabled. If you have the setting for PCI latency in your bios ( AGP boards only ) set it to 64, if its already at 64 try 32 .
Shut down ( remove, reconmended ) any 3rd party tweak apps that run in the background.
EG, Cache Man and any monitoring software.
Ok, now for Filters/Codecs and Plugins.
A major required Filter is AC3. (ac3filter__0a_rc5)
AC3Filter - it is DirectShow filter for AC3 decoding to play AVI with AC3 audio tracks and MPEG2 (DVD). Required for WMP.
NOTE: If you have DVD software that should play encoded 5. then make sure you have any updates/patches for the player installed and go through the tools/options for the player and ensure its setup correctly to decode AC3filters in the applictions tools menu.
If you use Cyberlink Power DVD you may need to pay an extra fee to get the required AC3filter/MPEG2 decoders to fuction as all 5. sound settings may be greyed out on some dated versions.
InterVideo WIN DVD ( this software suit comes with most "Asus" if not all makes of Mainboards. This suit comes complete with the required codecs/filters so get full surrport for 5. - 6. - 7. out of the box. Note: you must set it up first under audio options as it defualts to 2..
If you use WMP0 you should download and install the AC3filter or get the latest XP codec/filters packs. With out these filters you may not get 5. sound and/or poor reproduction.

The following table lists the file types (formats) supported by Windows Media Player .(For files type played by Power DVD or WIN DVD please refer to the makers website or read me file for a detailed list).

NOTE: WMP defualts to 2.. To enable 5. run WMP0. Click on tools then point to options. Navigate to DVD then open up the advanced window. In here is everything you need to set things up.
NOTE: If you mess things up simply return to defult settings and start over.
Some common errors you may encounter with WMP.
Error messages are identified by numerical IDs, such as C00D0BC2 and 800704CF. You can determine the ID of a specific error message by clicking the More Information or Web Help button on the error message when you encounter it. The resulting page will indicate the error ID.
: Error's C00D6A and C00D9A while playing DVD's or MPEG-2 content.
This is directly related to either your current video card drivers or the MPEG-2/DVD decoder you have installed (EG: PowerDVD, Win DVD etc ). Reinstalling and/or uninstalling the MPEG-2/DVD decoder (PowerDVD, Win DVD ) and/or video drivers should fix the problem for you.
You should now be able to re-install you decoder ( Power DVD etc ) and continue its use.
Erro : C00DAC:
Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the protected file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons.
Your sound device requires an updated driver. ( update driver )
The selected sound device does not support Secure Audio Path (SAP).
If you have multiple sound devices installed on your computer, try using a different one.
To use a different sound device, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Devices tab. Double-click Speakers, audio device to use, click a different device.
Error : "divide error in module IVIAUDIO.AX at".
Only exists in systems that have various Sound Blaster Li've sound cards and WinDVD installed.
This is infact a compatibility problem between these products. The problem is realized when MP3 oriented applications call upon certain sound card services making it look as though the error was raised from within the application in question.
FIX:Uninstall WIN DVD. Reinstall WMP and AC3 filter and then reinstall DVD WIN.
A simple but rare issue.
ModName.Win DVD "msvcrt.dll" and/or Win DVD MFC application error.
FIX:
Uninstall any java filters. Macromedia and Macromedia Acti'veX.
( to remove Acti'veX go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files and delete the Acti'veX )
What are codecs Codecs/Filters.
Codec stands for Coder/Decoder. Basically it is a piece of software or a driver that adds a support for certain video/audio format for your operating system. With codec, your system recognizes the format the codec is built for and allows you to play the audio/video file (=decode) or in some cases, to change another audio/video file into that format (=(en)code).
For example, when you install Windows to your home computer, Windows installs automatically most commonly used codecs into the system, so you don't have to download them separately from their vendors. However there are some codecs that are widely used, but not installed by Windows. Most notably DivX , MPEG-2.
Get all the Codecs/Filters/Plugins you could ever need from:

Ok, you now should be all set.
However Codecs/Filters/Plugins are like any other kind of software installed and things can go wrong. If things are not working as they should try the following.
Download and install "Gspot"
http://gspot.headbands.com/download.htmlBuild 0307 - 23 KB Run the programme and simply point to system and select "List Codecs and other Filters"
Its a no brainer really to know whats what here and how to use it to find out the source of the issue, if you have one. If its red, its bad so you then need to trace the Filter/Codec to its source and remove it.
Here is just one very simple excample you may encounter and how it was fixed.
If you have ffdshow file is missing error pop up while running a player application, first go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and search for ffdshow.en. Its proberly not here though. If it is just leave it be.
NOTE: ffdshow is used for AVI/Xvid enc/dec source.
To fix this "ffdshow Video Codec file is missing " error Simply uninstall your Xvid codec or your entire DivX programme, or any other Filter/Codec you have installed for playback of DivX files and AVI Video Files.
(Some times it seems a few Codecs/Filters dont get along so you must be aware of what you install).
Cheak "Gspot" again and Filter should be removed from the list.
Now you can reinstall the Xvid filter "XviD-.0.3-2022004" or your desired DivX programme.
Now go back toC:\WINDOWS\system32 and search for ffdshow.en. It should be there if it was not before. If the issue is back try a different version of required Filter.
So, thats just excample of a simple fix that got everything working again. Its not to hard to find out what the problem Codec/Filter is and then its just a case of uninstalling it. You can re-install the Codec/Filter but you should double cheak with "Gspot" and ensure the issue has not repeated itself .
If it has you can try and find out if the issue is related to another type filter causing a conflict or use an alternate Filter/Codec that will perform the same task .
Search for an updated version of required the Codec/Filter also.
Ok, thats pretty much the basics in getting correct and stable 5. sound working the way it should with your new Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card.
