Physical Interface not present in show ip route connected

Hi,
Thanks for reading my post.
I have a reccurent issue with a CISCO881-K9.
My WAN interface is regularly unsuable even if it's UP/UP. I can't even ping the interface from the router itself.
A reboot solves the issue. But now I have time and I'd like to get a proper understanding of what's going on.
The route doesn't appear in "show ip route connected".

Hi,
Thanks for your answer. I've checked the release notes and there is no bug about that.
I think I must use the WAN interface which is fastethernet 4. I'm not able to change the patch cable for now.
What could be the cause?

  • Critical physical interface or critical service ?

    Hi,
I use a one arm solution ( Trunk interface) in active/standby environment made by 2 CSS 11501, working in router mode. They, each, connect to a separte swicth through the trunk interface. In such configuation, I ask,if configuring critical physical interface is suficient? the switchs are connect through a trunk interface also, and the server and client side are distributed among them in their respectives VLANS.
    David

    David,
The trunk with the switch could be up but the servers or the default gateway not reachable.
You could add a critical service for the gateway.

  • Multiple Public IP's on one physical interface for devices behind Router.

Hi guys, I am trying to find information on applying multiple IP addresses to a router
basically one for the Router itself and then some for the devices behind the router, Which i am sure I need to apply some 1 to 1 NATs. I just do not know if i need to specify all the IP addresses on the main interface.
Example being I have a router with WAN ip of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/25 , it only has 2 interface one for WAN one for LAN, i have a server I would like assigned its own public IP address.  but still on the same LAN network.
Could someone help me out and point me in the right direction with a sample config

I agree with the previous response that you need a static NAT to allow outside resources to initiate traffic to your server. You also will need NAT or PAT using the router interface address to allow the other hosts in your network to access outside.
You do not need to configure any other of the addresses on the router interface other than the primary IP that you assign to the router interface. As long as the other addresses are used for NAT/PAT they are configured in the nat statements and not on the physical interface.

  • After writing an html report on a floppy disk and removing it, labview shows an error message window: disk not present

after writing an html report on a floppy disk and removing it, labview shows an error message window: disk not present.
My pc is based on asus motherboard. Labview 7 and Windows 2000 sp4 installed.
The error message continue also if i stop the application that generated report on a: .
I've got this problem only on a pc: on other machines i don't have this problem (Labview only continues to access floppy but it doesn't show any window).
Find below an example: first press the button to create a report on a: then remove the floppy, after 30-35 sec i've got the error message

    Hi,
I tried your vi: I don't get any error message after removing the disk but LV7 keeps on accessing the drive at regular intervals even if you stop the vi and close it!!! This is not supposed to happen.
The only way to stop it is exit LV7.
If you don't use the file dialog and you wire a full path, you don't get any problem.
I also created a very simple vi that conditionally writes a text file on a: and I got the same behaviour.
This problem occurs only with LV7, I tried the same examples in LV6.1 and everything was fine.
If anybody wants to try I attach this simple example,
    Alberto

  • Radio interface need to be disabled when antenna is not present?

I have been informed within a training class that the radio interface of an access point should be disabled when an antenna is not present. The reason given was that it would protect the radio from being adversely affected (potetnial for irreparable conditions). Question: 1) Is this true? 2) If so, where can I find supporting documentation on CCO? (I have not been able to find corroboratory information.)

    Hi Vincent,
Here is a doc that speaks to this issue ( I don't see this causing irreparable damage but, better safe than sorry :)
    Q. If you operate the radio but do not attach the antenna, can you damage the radio?
    A. Some radio equipment manufacturers specifically warn against the operation of radios without the attachment of the antenna. Operation without the antenna can damage the transmitter. Most pieces of amateur or commercial radio equipment carry this warning because the equipment operates at a much higher transmitter power. A failure to use a proper antenna or load causes a reflected wave standing wave ratio (SWR) that can damage the final amplifier stage. This final amplifier stage is the power amplifier (PA).
For Cisco Aironet equipment, the transmitter power output is 100 milliwatts (mW) for the 350 Series and 30 mW for the 340 Series. Damage is unlikely, but possible. If you need to run the devices without antennae, turn the transmitter power down to 1.5 mW. Also, you can use a 50/52 ohm dummy load (attenuator) to be safe.

I'd try Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com/), which you and your recipient both have to have. It's easy, and the free version would probably be enough. There are any number of other services available for emailing large files (google that). Of course, your recipient must have KN installed to be able to view it correctly, or can view it in PP, but with some loss, primarily transitions/animations.

  • MPLS Customer router physical interface

My provider wants to sell me MPLS services but I can't seem to get a straight answer regarding what the physical interface on my customer router needs to be.  Some personnel tell me it will be a normal ethernet connection, other say it'll be a DS3 or T1 connection depending on the speed.
Please give me some advice on what to expect regarding an MPLS circuit?  Or point me to some good documentation to maybe I can communicate better with the service provider.
    Thank you.

    Hi Tod
Few points from my side for your query
Access Link should be considered based on whether we are going for MPLS L3 VPN or MPLS L2 VPN Soilution
MPLS L3 VPN from my understanding is independent of Access Media but the Access Media will definitely put different hardware requirements for your Customer Edge Router
The Access Link Type and Bandwidth would vary depending upon the BW requirements for the network. The T1/T3 or a Subrate T3 Access Links would be a choice when we have BW requirements in that range(<45 Megs)
Using FE as an Acces link would require SP to provide Colocation Services or rather go for spanning a Fiber out from their Colo and deploying Optical Mux at Customer Premises and again suitable for BW requirements more than 45 Megs
    MPLS L2 VPN
Ethernet is the choice for taking MPLS L2 VPN Services to connect your different branches in a point-to-multipoint fashion using VPLS at SP end.
You can go through the Cisco Doc - "Layer 3 MPLS VPN Enterprise Consumer Guide" which should help you gain more insight for choosing the PE-CE Routing Protocol and other points to consider for an MPLS L3 VPN Service.
Thats from my understanding. Hope you will get more good advises on this.

  • Show ip route / routing table

    hi all,
i have a question regarding the output of the "show ip route" command:
    C         192.168.30.0/24 is directly connected, Ethernet0
                172.16.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets
    S          172.16.1.0 is directly connected, Ethernet0
192.168.38.0/24 is variably subnetted, 2 subnets, 2 masks
    S       192.168.38.0/24 is directly connected, Ethernet0
    S       192.168.38.0/25 [1/0] via 192.168.30.40
         10.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets
    C       10.1.1.1 is directly connected, Loopback1
I understand why lines 4,5 and 6 are present. Its cause the network 192.168.38.0 is supposed to have a /24 mask but there is also a network with a /25 mask and thus it says this network is variably subnetted.
But why doesnt it show the same for line 2 and 3? Shouldnt it say 172.16.0.0/16 is subnetted? I understand why is doesnt show "variably subnetted" as there is only on subnet but why not 172.16.0.0/16?
And the same for the last two lines. Why not 10.0.0.0/8 but /32? Even though its a loopback interface still the network 10.0.0.0 is supposed to have a /8 mask by nature.
And it might be a stupid question but does a static router always have a metric of 0? I guess so as they dont have to compete with other routes, right?
I mean a static route goes always straight into the routing table and the metric is actually just for comparison reasons within a routing protocol to see what is the best route which should be suggested for being written into the routing table.
Also i tried to put static routes permanently into the routing table with the "permanent" command but always when i detach the cable of the corresponding interface the routes get kicked out of the RT. Is there a trick or something i have to be aware of?
    thanks for any help!

I will take the easy part of the question first. One of the basic principles of IOS is that it will put routes into the routing table is the corresponding interface is in the up state. And that IOS will withdraw a route from the routing table is the corresponding interface is in the down state. So when you disconnect the interface then the route using that interface is withdrawn.
The more complex part of the question is the aspect of metrics with static routes. My explanation here would start from the point that the reason we use metrics is so that we can compare routes learned within a protocol and determine whether one is better than the other. This makes sense for RIP, it makes sense for OSPF, and it makes sense for EIGRP. But it does not make sense for static routes. To try to make it a bit more clear: if RIP or OSPF or EIGRP learn a route to a subnet that goes via FastEther0/0 and also learn a route to that subnet that goes via FastEther0/1 then we compare the routes and if one has a more attractive metric then that is the one that gets put into the routing table. But with static routes if there is a static route for a subnet that goes via FastEther0/0 and also a static route for that subnet that goes via FastEther0/1 then there is no comparison and both routes are put into the routing table. Since we do not do comparisons with static routes then there is no concept of metric associated with the static route and IOS puts a default value into the metric field of a static route.
