PI Sheet- Weighing scale

Hi Experts,
Currently weight is manually entered in PI sheet, now we want PI sheet to read value directly from Weighing scale.
I have heard about PP_PCS , OPC or XMII,how they work &which is the best method or why?
Thanks & Regards,
Vivek Kumar

Hi,
SAP ODA ( OPC data aceess) is beneficial than PI-PCS and also than SAP MII.
Please refer to URL below for detailed description of SAP ODA :
http://help.sap.com/bp_bblibrary/600/Documentation/BP_PH_SAP_ODA_Manual_EN.pdf
An example is given on page 17 of 32 for reading data in PI sheet from a scale.
SAP ODA does not replace the existing PI-PCS interface. The two interfaces
have different communication capabilities and complement each other.
SAP MII will require seperate licensing requirements.
Hope this shows some insight.

  • Weighing scale interface with SAP PI sheet

    Dear all,
I have questions related to SAP and weighing scale interface and PI sheet handling, seek for expert advise.
As project rquirement we have to implement integration of weighing scale with SAP ECC 6.0
We have used the ERP scale pocket program to make hardware and communication with scale, in SAP did configuration to communicate with pocket program, created a new RFC and made config on Packing profile,
We dont want to  use the packing station code HUPAST
Instead planned to call weighing from PI sheet, hence planned to use dynamic function call on PI sheet  with modified function module which calls HU_GET_RFC_DATA (fm of HUPAST), is it right approach?
Can we call multiple time dynamic functional call from PI sheet, earlier i tried with some other functional module, i get variable lock and ready only error when processing second material. I believe its a variable issue of dynamic function call on PI sheet. How can i resolve it?
    Thanks and regards
    Vijay

The main benefits of using SAPODA are:
    - Direct integration with PI sheets using configuration only without the need for custom developments
    - Using ERP-Scale you can trigger processes in SAP automatically when the weight on the weigh scale changes. SAP ODA provides data subscriptions which ERP-Scale fully supports and uses a call-back into SAP to execute functions in SAP.
SAP ODA will be supported in release V3.0.7 of ERP-Scale which will be released soon.
The reading issues you are seeing with the PI-Sheet might be caused by incorrect communication settings causing errors in the data flow between the weigh-scale and ERP-Scale. Please contact us [here|http://www.en.pocketprograms.com/contact.aspx] so we can investigate further.
Also, are you testing using a trial licence. if not you can apply for a trial licence free of charge from our [web-shop|http://pocketprograms.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=34].

    Hi Folks,
There is  XMI technology available that can be potentially leveraged for this type of requirements in integrating any electronic gadgets talking to SAP ....
I think SAP XMI will be vry useful for this.
XMI is having ability to capture real time data from other system and update accordingly.
It has have connectors which will capture values from other system and pull in SAP.
How to Integrage Weigh Scale with OPC server via xMII 12.0
    Hello Experts,
I am new to xMII. We want to integrate shop floor weigh scale into SAP PI Sheet to read the value from weight scale into PI Sheet. We have the infrastructure Ohaus weigh scale, xMII 12.0, SAP ERP 4.70, Kepware OPC Server, installed xMII framework for UDS and UDS 4.0. We are able to integrate the OPC Data tags into SAP PI Sheet successfully. But we need help to integrate weight scale with OPC server to read the scale value into OPC data tag.
Can any one give the steps to integrate weight scale with OPC server?
    with best regards

ERP-Scale from Pocket Programs provides a standardized u201Cplug & playu201D interface for weighing equipment. It is SAP Certified and can be used for integration of weigh-scales with the SAP Packing Station transaction (HUPAST) or with custom ABAP developments. Major international companies are already gaining benefit by implementing ERP-Scale in their plants worldwide.

    Re: Custom development for UDS
What have to say folks about the possibilities with the above ? But shouldnt SAP have some standard FM / RFC / BAPI owefully facilitating the same???
But the available FM  HU_GET_RFC_DATA  doesnt have any documentations attached to it ?

  • Integration of weighing Scale device with EBS Customized Oracle Forms

    Hi,
When the trucker enters our Factory Premises (Empty) It is passed our weighing scale how can we get Weight of the Truck (Empty) & after it is Loaded on our EBS Customized form.
    Regards
    Usman Goraya

    All:
    Repeating Arul's answer:
"This weighbridge interface can be achieved by using thethird party software for entering the weigh bridge scale information which will put the datas in Oracle staging Tables from there we can pull into our applications."
You should be find the 3rd party provider on the Partner Network site. We used a product from Panasonic to do a similar process with Process Machinery data into a quality collection plan.

  • Weighing Scale Device integration - 12.1.1

    All,
We are trying to integrate Weighing Scale Device with R12(Warehouse Control System).
We are following 11510CU1_WCS_MHE_Implementation_Guide.pdf doc which we got while googling. As per the doc we have completed Device setups in MES for OPM. Further we have setup Carbri middle-ware at the filesystem, following are the files at the $WCS_TOP defined.
    images
    startCarBri.sh
    carbri.xml
    startDS.sh
Among these startCarBri.sh is the middle-ware bridge and startDS.sh is the device simulator. We are currently working with DS first before going with the device. After starting bridge and DS, we see that DS is not able to comminicate with the bridge. Please advice on how to troubleshoot this. We are working steps mentioned under section 5 of the PDF.
Also we are forced to follow 11.5.10.2 PDF, is there same PDF available for R12 also, please let us know.
    Thank you,

  • Weigh Scale Interface with SAP

    Hello,
Can anybody please tell me how to Interface the Weih bridge With SAP Inventory Management. The requirement is that the Truck will be weighed at the Weigh Bridge, first when it is Loaded with the Material and then it will be again weighed at another weighbride when it is empty. We have to get the Net weight of the Material and create an Inbound Delivery against the Purchase Order.
Please let me know your thoughts on this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Himanshu.

    Hi,
to create an inbound delivery you need:
    Purchase order
    material number
so you can create it like this:
    1. create a table that will contain "process delivery"
    2. create an interface (mobile, sapgui, anything) that will
create an entry to this table - with material number and PO number
    3. when the Weigh will send any info XI (or any other middleware)
can look up this table for PO and matnr and send an inbound delivery to SAP
to see how to create delivery IDOCs:

Purchases & Payables: from Order to Payment
Tally.ERP 9 delivers the entire purchase cycle whether the need is the complete purchase order - goods receipt - rejections & returns - advances, debits & payments or a single payment entry, fulfilling all needs.
To ensure that you have the right stocks and minimize carrying costs, Tally.ERP 9 delivers the following to improve purchase orders:
. Define Re-order levels as a definite number or based on consumption
. Define minimum quantity to order as a definite number or based on consumption
. Pull up a report that shows the stock position, including complete details of open purchaseorders, sales orders that need to be fulfilled - check on past purchase history, and then place orders
. Optionally stagger delivery dates in the PO
    When receiving goods:
. Make entries in accordance with supporting documentation, including errors your suppliers could have made (say of multiplication & round off)
    . Incorporate additional costs
    . Automatically manage input taxes
. Flexibility allows receipt of goods, quantities and rates different from that ordered - since this is common in real life
. Record samples & free items (using different 'actual' & 'billed' quantities)
. Multiple receipts for one order or one receipt for multiple orders, or against verbal ordersIn case there is a need to add other costs (say coolie and cartage) these additional charges can be apportioned to the cost of goods purchased.
Supplied goods may not match your needs and these are managed by the 'Rejections Out' inventory voucher. Supplier dues, input taxes and inventory positions are updated.
Suppliers often indicate likely profits, which may not be met. In case such assurances are made, you can look at Item profitability reports, and get the facts right. You could then negotiate a rebate and record this as a debit note.
Keep tabs of how much is due to whom, when. Manage advances, payables & post dated checks. Ensure there are no errors in payments - print checks from Tally.ERP 9.
Sales & Receivables: from Order to Receipt
The lifeline of a business, efficiencies in sales operations, both of goods & services, directly impact growth and profitability. The need to optimise and keep a close watch here requires exceptional capabilities from your business IT system - and Tally.ERP 9 meets these demands.
The sales process is supported with the following documents:
. Quotations - records of quotes
. Sales orders - accepted customer orders
. Deliver Notes - documents that accompany goods
. Sales Invoices/Cash Bill - to record the sale
. Credit Notes - for financial adjustments
. Rejections in - for goods returns
. Receipts - for advances and receipts
Do you have cash sales (sales across the counter)? With support for Point of Sale printers, bar codes and receipts in multiple tenders, you POS enable your business at no additional cost. Product sales may come with added services - and the integrated product & service billing will close this.
Enforce credit limits, where needed. Along with the Payment Performance of Debtors report you can identify persistent problems and take necessary business decisions. Interest for delays & reminder letters aid in collection.
For businesses engaged in Excisable goods, you get full support for Excise for Traders & Manufacturing Excise - matter of fact a business could be both!
Make multiple deliveries from one order, or one from multiple orders - this common need is available across all documents of the sales process.
Do you have multiple classes of customers? You can easily setup multiple prices (even in advance and specify the date from which they are effective).
Discounts against the line, or for the document, additional charges as a percentage or lump sum, automatic round off of bill totals, automatic computation of VAT & Service tax, returns & exchanges are all available.Need to verify that you are making the desired sales margins? Item wise and bill wise profitability reports will help you keep tabs.
    Multi-company
Security: With multiple companies, possibly including personal accounts, you may need to control who gets access to which companies, and to do what. You can set up users, grant or deny access - and these are defined for each company.
Remote Access: You choose to specify which company is accessible remotely. You choose which remote users have access; you decide what access a remote user gets.
Central User Management: Users come and go. You might also have a password policy requiring users to change passwords every few weeks. You can take advantage of the ease of central user and password management that Tally.NET identities carry - and even remotely manage these while not in office.

    What is Series B
This Series will deliver major enhancements both in entirely new areas of functionality as well as in technology capabilities.
    Technology & Capability Enhancements
    Multi-session
Support for multiple application windows, which can even be launched by clicking on a mail link or a 'shortcut., Each of these are simultaneous 'windows' into different areas of your business processes & reports. Dynamic data refresh and the display of different views when resizing - for e.g. smaller windows displaying a more consolidated view of data, will improve organizational management and productivity.
    Multi-threaded
A 'thread' is a specific task that is being performed by the microprocessor. Enhanced capabilities will be enabled such that each application window can perform more tasks simultaneously instead of linearly, including processing messages from the server. Multi-core processors, even on the desktop, are now common. We will take full advantage of these as well.
Multi Stack Architecture for Scale-up & Scale-down Deployments
To deliver the capabilities described above, and the ones that follow, Tally.ERP 9 will become 'componentised' - consisting of several layers of programs - often referred to as 'n-tier architecture'.
These software components are horizontally scalable, meaning that you can add one more computer to increase the computing power needed for a layer. In the same way, you can remove systems as needed, or collapse them into a single system - all of them even on a notebook, if required.
High Transaction Capacity with Low Latency & Management
Let us say that you start generating a report that needs to be extracted from a few thousand vouchers. This process is run in a 'session', which is isolated from all other users. Even if other users delete or modify any of the vouchers needed for the report while the report is being compiled, there is no impact on this session and you will get to see the report as if these other users did not exist.
In the same way, the user performing the edit will also be isolated. After the edit, he can open the voucher and see it with the changes he made, perhaps even delete it.
The architecture described above will in itself deliver substantial performance and transaction handling capacity. To push performance further in those cases when the storage media (typically the hard disk) is busy with other operations, additional capabilities will store these transactions 'temporarily' in a 'Q' for later write, while the user is free to continue his work (these transactions are protected against power failures and so on).
Payment Engine for Debit & Credit Cards
The facility for online payments using a variety of payment mechanisms (NEFT, online banking, credit cards), as well as receive payments (Debit / Credit Cards, NEFT etc) will be available.
    Functional Enhancements
    Online Banking and Reconciliation
Collaborating with Banks who wish to facilitate their customers with this capability, we will provide Online Banking - including Payment Instructions, Standing Instructions, DD, NEFT,RTGS Transfers, Balance Queries, Instruction Status, Automated or Semi-Automated Bank Reconciliation.
    Point-of-Sale for most Retail Environments
Series B will support dedicated POS terminals, with Credit/Debit Card, Discount Coupons and various other payment mixes, Loyalty support, schemes, multi-layered supervisory control, simultaneous keyboard and scanner controls, integrated or isolated printing of bill and credit card authorisation slips, item substitution, rate markup/markdowns, integration with measuring devices - such as weighing scales, bill suspension and retrieval, bill reversals and cancellations, etc. It can also be used for other store operations (receipting, inventory management etc), and general business operations (finance and accounts) - both on the same machine or separate machines.
    Income Tax
Comprehensive IT coverage encompassing corporate & individual income tax, including typical payroll requirements and e-Returns will be available.
    EXIM Documentation
Import & export documentation has become a growing need with the world economy becoming more open. This requirement will be supported, additionally covering the processes that need to be managed along with the documentation.
    Job Costing
The enhanced Job Costing functionality will support most job costing needs to a level of granularity that is increasingly needed. We expect that you will be able to handle most, if not all, project accounting needs as well.
    Fixed Assets
To take advantage of tax breaks as well as to manage organizational assets, this feature will support all requirements - from opening assets, adding, removing, amalgamating, grouping, vendor tagging, AMC's, servicing, service calendars, repairs and upkeep, refurbishing, breaking-down, depreciating and disposal for complete fixed asset management.

  • Ideas for tension and compression test stand

    Hello,
I currently work for a company that manufactures weigh scale
devices.  A majority of the devices are either patient weight
scales ( the kind you stand on at the doctors ) or a tension load cell
(displays patient weight when on a lifter).  Typically the devices
can weigh up to 1000lbs full scale.
My job usually consists of performing engineering test / evaluation of
these devices.  A majority of the testing involves me slinging
massive amounts of weight all day…  I usually have to do
repeatability testing, linearity runs (ascending / descending),
etc.    Currently this technique is purely physical… I
am looking for ideas to make it a LabView controlled technique that is
    relatively CHEAP.
    Desired:
    1) Relatively accurate (at 1000 lbs) accurate AND REPEATABLE to 0.05 lbs
    2) Once at a particular load it must remain stable to 0.00 lbs ( sometimes air compression devices oscillate)
    3) Can be configured for tension loads or compression loads  (can be manual to configure)
    4) Automation – Would like to run either tension testing OR compression
testing but to be able to just walk away and have the system
automagically perform the repeatability/linearity runs, etc.
    Ideas so  far:
    A) A lever arm whose fulcrum point changes based on a linear motor and a known load.
B  Some kind of linear motor that can be securely mounted
vertically:  would have to have various types of attachments to
    configure tension / compression testing.
I haven’t even begun to research linear motors… I don’t even know if they are appropriate or not for the application.
Any brainstorming ideas would be greatly appreciated
    Thank you for your time

Personally, I would not try to reinvent the wheel. First to enter my mind is compressive/tensile testing with off-the-shelf equipment from Instron or similar manufacturer. They have highly capable automation/data collection software too. Not cheap as you wanted, but precise, repeatable, traceable, and pretty much out of the box solution, less custom fixturing. Realize you request 0.005% repeatability at 1000lbs full scale, keep in mind the time, cost, and labor you may incur trying to design, build, test, and certify an in-house built solution.
If not, maybe you can get some ideas by looking at how such equipment works.
Voice-coil mass drivers may be a means to apply forces.
May the force be with you

  • XMII and RS-232 communication

As most of us are aware xMII does not support RS-232 communication. Recently some customers have come up with requirements of interfacing weigh scales to SAP.
Most of these weigh scales have only the RS-232 interfacing option. (I am not sure if these could be OPC compliant as well.. Some higher and expensive ones come with a software version which I guess can be configured to write a file or some come even with a Database Option.)
With xMII 12 would it be possible, lets say, to write a custom action 'RS-232 Listner' which could allow this to happen?
What are SAP's thoughts on this?

Yes, this is a common request.  I think in part because sometimes customers get the impression that xMII can do this from the "sales force" and can do it "easily".
We had some luck with this in the past.
Sometimes what we have seen in the past, is that the rs-232 devices have a transmit or send button that sends a signal back to a pc that the device is attached to.  If you use an application like WinWedge that takes the signal from the device and decodes it to text, it can be used to get the information.  WinWedge typically comes with handheld USB or Serial barcode scanners.  It's main purpose is to take the signal from the device and "pop" it into the active window's cursor location.  So if you scan a barcode with Word open and active, the barcode scanner sends the signal to WinWedge on the PC, WinWedge translates the signal to text and throws in at the cursor location.
If your cursor is in an HTML form input box, and you can capture the data as descibed above, now you can use the data via Javascript and pass it to an applet on the page.

  • My Applet start failed due to security warning after upgrading java version

    Hi Team,
We have an application where we read the weight from the attached weighing Scale (Hardware device).
For this we use one Applet which runs and reads the data.
Now we upgraded the Java version from 1.6 to 1.7 and started encountering a security alert 'Running unsigned applications like this will be blocked in a future release because it is potentially unsafe and a security risk'.
Our application runs on a HTP port not on HTTPS because this is installed in client premise and no risk in opening HTTP port internally.
Could you please help us in resolving the issue. We don't want to see the alert even after upgrading the Java version.
    Thanks,
    Vijay G

  • Strange init serial port issue

    Hello:
My Labview application is reading data from the COM1..COM6 ports (I have
added a MOXA serial board to get 4 more ports). I am using RS232 reading
on each port (old legacy Vis, 9m long communication cables). The devices to which I am connected are weigh scale that continuously send weight readings to the Labview app through 3-wires RS232 (RD, TX and GND). Everything goes well for hours and hours. Then after a while (maybe after power is cut and restarted on the PC side?) I restart the PC and launch Labview. If I try to init the serial port that I use to connect to the weigh scale I get an error 37. I also tried to init thru HyperTerminal right after restarting the PC and could not. The only thing that works to unlock the port is
    this:
    - unplug the weigh scale communication cable from the Moxa connector
    - restart the PC
    - relaunch LV or HyperTerminal
Unplug then restart Labview or HyperTerminal is not sufficient.
To the same Moxa board I connect other devices such as PLC or PC through serial ports but never see any problems even after restarting the Host PC. So there is something strange with weigh scales (I tried two different brands) but what? I cannot use the built-in serial port as it is already in use by another application.
Does someone out there have an explanation and ways to avoid this very annoying problem?
Thank you very much, I am completely lost,
    Christophe

    Chris:
Thank you for your help. I investigated the problem further and this is what I found. I am still clueless so if you think of other tracks that I might explore I would be glad to hear them.
    - Hard boot (power off, remove power cord, restart) does not release the port
    - I change the port ie. I used the built-in COM1 PC port, got the communication, could read char, then restarted the PC and fell into the same trap: could not init the port (Labview). I did the same after restarting and could not open the port with HyperT. Hence it is not a Moxa issue.
    - The question is: how can I resolve that, is it an HW or SW issue, a combination of the two, has it got something to deal with WIndows 2K, are there some tools that allow to diagnose whi
ch service or application grasps the serial port during the boot sequence? Or is it a problem during the shutdown sequence that the port is not released properly?
    TIA,
    Christophe

  • Mapping gate pass in G/R process

    Hi Friends,
We are facing one issue relating goods received from the transporters not getting offloaded on time & incurring huge demurrage charges. The modus operandi is...,
    1) transporters arrives with the goods at weigh bridge near security gate.
    2) weigh the goods
    3) stand in a Q untill the stores person advise him to offload the goods wherever he decides& then he does the GRN in SAP.
    4) after unloading, again the truck arrives at the weigh bridge for tare weight.
This entire process may take 1 or more than 1 day..may be 2, 3 becos we are currently working on project. The transporter claims demurrage charges which is very difficult to track.
Is their any settings in SAP so that whenever transporter arrives, the gate keeper shall make the Gate pass in SAP inputing date/time of the truck arrival & also of the weigh scale.
And later on whenever stores person shall make the GRN he shud come to know when the said truck hv arrived so as keep the track on their demurrage charges. And finally gate keeper again need to input the outgoing date/time of the truck & their tare weight in systems. This data shud be available on the MIGO screen itself. Pls check & advise with any config settings ( if required to be done )
    Thank you

    Hi,
To meet your requirement, you need to develop Z report for this because for gate entry SAP doesnot provide any standard facility.
1] Prepare a Z report to create gate entry.
In existing process, securities are maintaining the gate entries in their registers. The entries are like
Vendor name, material, material description, qty, PO number, vehicle no, in time, out time, gate entry no, gate entry date etc etc
2] For this, you have to maintain all these fields in a Z Table
3] You can also fetch these gate entries in MIGO using exists.
In this way you can track this requirement.

  • Communicate via serial port/ethernet from client app

    Hi
Is it possible to communicate between the client serial port and an Apex application?
(or from the application to an ethernet device).
I need to link an application to a weighing machine and send/receive information via an Apex application. The interface will either be a serial port on the client or the weighing scales could also be connected as a network device.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Kathryn

There are active-x controls that you can use (http://www.activexperts.com/activcomport/howto/html/).. Otherwise you could try writing a small java applet to do this on the client end, don't know enough about your requirements to offer more.. Does the vendor of hardware have a solution?
(Issue with this would be, non-ie browsers MIGHT not want to run vbscript or active-x controls..)
    Thank you,

  • Barcode / Weight from RS232 Cable interface

We are in the process of developing a solution in WDA which is  very tightly integrated with standard SAP.
For most of the inputs, my client uses barcode readers attached to the PC and also for some of the operations we are suppose to get the weights from Weigh Scales directly without human intervention except for click of a button.
My queries, will WDA support these features, as it does it in standard Dynpro, Is there any specific coding beside the interface for weigh scale is required.
    Regards
    Rohit Chowdhary

    Hi Rohit,
as far as i know, but i'm really not sure in this case, there are only WD BarCode Reader API's available for Web Dynpro Java.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/de/6b/cdf740c42f8566e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
These and also the RFID API's are part or the mobile Add on libary and WDA isn't supported fr mobile devices up to now.
But you have a possiblility to use a virtual keystroke(simulating a keyboaurd during the scan) if your barcode vendor shippes a PC software for that. The value is then transfered into the focused WDA Input Field as if it is typed manually. For that have a look into this thread:
