Picture flickering on and off
Whenever I watch an on demand show with my bt vision box the picture on my screen flickers on and off continously every 15 secs or so. I get frustrated so have ended up not using it for a while which defeats the point of me paying for it. Its also started to do it on regular shows, ive rebooted and checked leads and nothing has changed. Anyone have any suggestions or had this problem?
Hi sueandstef,
Thanks for posting. Sorry to hear you’re having problems. How are you connected? Is it via powerline adaptors? If so can you try connecting directly with cable? Take a look here for help with On Demand picture quality issues.
Cheers

Picture flickers on and off after a power cut - seems locked
Just had a power cut in the street and when I turn my apple TV on now the home menus come up on the screen for 2 seconds then disappear for 5, then this repeats.
The remote won't scroll along although it seems to be paired but more concerened about why the flickering is occuring as I can't use the device.
Any help?
ATV2 on 4.4.4Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.

24" imac with second display that flickers on and off randomly
Hi, I'm a n00b here, I've read a handful of threads before posting this a I cant seem to find a definitive answer.
I have a 24" 2.4Ghz aluminium iMac and I've recently purchased a HP zr24w 24" IPS panel as a second display, connected with an apple miniDVI - DVI connector.
The screen flickers off, to totaly black every time the mac seems to be having a hard time doing something, be it fast scrolling, flash video, but someimes randomly.
I have boot camp installed with winblows vista (for work) the screen does EXACTLY the same thing, all be it less frequently. This for me rules out the Mac OS, i think it must be something video card/driver related.
Was there ever a fix for this? most of the threads seem to just die with no official answer, it would appear that MBP users were ok until the last 10.6.3 update, when the problem seems to have returned, although i think thats a different issue with the same net effect.
I have spoken to apple care and the very helpful girl I spoke to send me some logging software which I've run and sent the logs back, that may help them out someway.
Any help would be GREAT !!
many thanks
Michaelwell, some time has passed, here's where I'm at so far.
I tried a friend's samsung 24" screen and all was good with the world, no flickering on and off, no black outs nothing, for days it was all fine. I swapped the HP monitor back on and it went right back to its old ways. I called HP tech support, they decided that the monitor was faulty, i returned it to where I got it from and they have sent me a new one. Which was fine, for about 7 hours!!
So, to recap, the mini-DVI to DVI adapter is fine as it worked on the samsung screen, the HP screen is brand new and exhibiting the exact same issue as the first one (cant be 2 faulty ones surely) The samsung screen was fine.
This leads me to think that there is some compatibility issue between the 24" imac and this particular (hp zr24w) monitor.
I have followed apple support's requests for data logging but they cant find anything wrong there.
I'm out of ideas, any help would be GREATLY appreciated !!!
thanks

Video connector keeps disconnecting (Screen flickers on and off)
Hi,
I bought a HP Pavilion Notebook 14-v054ca two weeks ago. Last week, the screen was flickering on and off, so I took it to the shop. They said the video connector was knocked loose and asked me if I dropped the laptop. The laptop is on my desk 24/7 and I have not dropped it once (I only had it for a week)! I have a warranty, so they replaced my laptop for me. Sadly, all my data was wiped, but hey, things happen.
I digress.
Here I am with my second brand new HP Pavilion Notebook 14. I want to make sure the screen incident doesn't happen again, so I open and close the lid as gently as I can. Guess what. One week later, the video connector disconnected yet again. Is the 14-v054ca just a line of faulty, defective laptops? I hope that is not that case, because I love HP to death. I have an HP desktop and I am extremely satisfied with it. I don't want to trade this laptop in again just to have it happen a third time. It's an utter waste of time, and I lose my data every single time they give me a new one.Hello, @PongV2
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you've bought two notebooks and both have had an issue with flicker screen. That this was identified from where you purchased it as a loose connector.
To get assistance on this and to see what could be done for you on the issue, I recommend contacting phone support.
Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

Please help!
My iBook screen flickers on and off every couple of minutes - it looks like it's just shutting off. Once it flickered off, flicked back on and the whole screen was red for a sec, and then switched back on normally.
Does this mean I'm going to need a new computer?Maybe.
There is some kind of inverter board and video circuit which
may be going bad; and maybe the cost of this (or whatever
is wrong with it) could be a fair start toward the cost of a
new or newer computer. There should be an Apple Hardware
Test on a bootable disc, included with the computer.
You know, you get a fairly recent OS X version with the
purchase of an Apple Certified refurbished machine from
the Apple Store online; and it qualifies for the extended
AppleCare optional coverage, past the one year service
and 90 days support (enrolled, it adds total of three years.)
How old is your iBook computer and could it have any
AppleCare plan coverage left? There is a serial number
check box in part of the Apple Support section online.
Good luck & happy computing!

Satellite L300 29R - Monitor flickers on and off at start up - Vista
Hi from Bxl,
after turning the computer on, when the desktop icons are already visible and the background photo as well, the monitor blinks on and off in black for about 1 second each time.
Then it stabilizes and things 'seem' to work normal.
But then again, I am no expert. Perhaps there are other problems.
I recently bought a new camera and it seems to me that the problem started after downloading the software.
In the meantime I deleted it again but this flickering at start up remains.
What should I do? Please if any solutions, explain to me as to a 'total beginner'.
Thanks so much for your help in advance!
IrisIt is not easy to say why this happen.
For me it looks like some component will be loaded in the background and it has something to do with graphic.
We can obviously just speculate why this happen but at the end you must check preinstalled stuff and running background processes to see what the problem can be. What you can try is to install latest display driver offered on Toshiba support page.
At least, if everything works well leave it. -
My webcam won't stay on in skype - it flickers on and off and says it's not connected
can't use my webcam for skype - it won't stay on. It goes on and off and says it's not connected. If I go to the webcam it is working. how do I resolve this?
You say "If I go to the webcam it is working." Does that mean you don't have this issue in other programs? Also is it a USB webcam or is it attached to the laptop?

I bought a 13-inch Retina MBP in late September 2014, just a few months ago and i am starting to have problems with the screen.
First of all, the screen will sometimes fade and a weird pattern will appear at the bottom of the screen in which every second set of backlights is off and the other is on. Here is a picture that i found on the internet; from a much older mac though but still shows the problem.
The second problem, which is more irritating, is that every now and again the screen will sort of flicker where it will get darker then lighter and keep switching the brightness in a matter of seconds. This is so hard to look at!!
Hopefully there is an easy solution however i may have to take it to an Apple store and unfortunately get it replaced.
Thanks.Howdy there chappo_10,
It sounds like you have a couple of unexpected video issues on your 13 inch MacBook Pro. I'd like to recommend these troubleshooting steps specifically to hep you determine if you need to take it to the Apple Store:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care,

Ethernet flickering on and off
Hey, So I did a clean install of Windows 10 and keep in mind that my recovery partition is looong gone, I found out I couldn't use my key for it and so I went back to Windows 7. Since then, my ethernet is either off or flicks on for a moment before going back off and it seems to be a driver issue but even the "original ethernet" drivers from the download page on here don't work and so it keeps flickering. I was wondering if I could get like, a step by step and a download for the drivers that would work with it. I got the hardware id's because I saw a lot of people posting with them so here's that.
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_2A92103C&REV_03
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_2A92103C

I'm extremely frustrated because a lot has happened and what could have been a 3 or 4 hour job has turned into 2 days straight of no sleep trying to get back to an OS that works properly. I'm planning on going back up to windows 10 just through the upgrade and not clean install.
Thanks to anyone who can help this stupid old man out hahaha! EDIT: So I got a few updates from windows right when I posted this, restarted and everything was fine after the updates which I'm guessing that microsoft fixit did somthing about. Also don't know how to delete this thread so sorry for wasting everyones time.Strangely enough, I am experiencing the same issue: Port flapping on ethernet ports 1-4. I've had the router for over 6 months with computers hard wired to ports 1-3 and have not had a problem until last week when I noticed that my internet was very slow. When I pinged Google.com I noticed major packet loss. After the usual reboot of all devices (cable modem, WRTP54G, and computer (win2000), the flapping issue presented itself. Networking icon in Windows reports that network cable is not attached for a few minutes, then suddenly reports that network connectivity @100Mbps/s, only to revert back to no connection. I tried this with many different cables to ensure that this was not a layer 1 issue. I did not change any network/computer settings in months, so I am thinking that this is a hardware issue. I may try to upgrade the firmware, but I am seriously thinking about replacing the router.
Unless somebody knows of a fix for this??? -
My iMac was on and we had our power flicker because of weather conditions. I know the computer is hooked up right because it was on before the power went out.So my question is, is there a virus that had been affecting it before it went off, or is the power button broken? And any help would be appreciated because we have just taken in other computers for various reasons and we really don't want to take it in again.Oh, and i don't really know which model it is. Thanks
Try an SMC reset - sometimes works:
SMC Reset
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer’s power cord and disconnect peripherals (printers/external hard disks, etc. but not keyboard or mouse).
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer. -
External Video flickering on and off
About a week ago, the external video from FCP to my firewire deck began to turn off and on and I would play through a timeline. All on it's own. First I changed out the firewire cable thinking I had a short in it. The problem still persists. I also tried deleting preference files and such with no affect.
Basically as I play through a timeline - doesn't matter what video format (8bit, DVCPro HD, DV/NTSC) and about every 5-10 seconds the external video will flicker and turn off - then sometimes come back on.
Anyone know if this is an FCP issue, Firewire issue, or Video Card issue? So you have firewire out of your computer into a deck and then from the deck into a monitor?
I would start at the cables connected to the monitor and then work my way back to the computer.
Does the video cut in and out when you play a tape back from the deck without the computer involved?
Does the deck record ths intermitant signal (maybe some sort of record inhibit?)
Does it playback OK in FCP when external video is turned off and no deck connected? -
I've tried to factory reset it but it not let me even get that far
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Cheers, Tom -
All 3 bottom buttons don't work, and my screen flickers on and off every 5-10 seconds.
I haven't any new software updates ... and there is no physical damage to my phone ... any explanation?
LisaHikes, No need to have the phone blues or visit a store. We can help you troubleshoot the device here and review replacement options (if necessary). What exactly happens when you use the buttons? Please share details. How long have you had this issue with the device?

I recently upgraded to lion ,my screen keeps flashing and the dock flickers on and off
I recently upgraded to lion on my mac book pro but the dock appears and disappears (flashes) and the screen flashes also. It occurs most when I have Game Manager on the screen although I don't subscribe to it. I have a game called Cradle of Rome but I have to click the game manager icon to bring it up. That creates another problem - the game keeps freezing up.
Launch the Messages app from your Applications folder.
Then click and hold the Messages app icon in the Dock then click Options > Keep in Dock
