PL/SQL Bug in SQL Developer?

SQL Developer v 1.1.1.25 running on Windows XP.
I have a PL/SQL procedure that does not compile with debug in SQL Developer. Compiling it with debug produces the following error:
an Error(1): PLS-00801: internal error [79110].The only way I was able to get the procedure to compile in SQL Developer was to add the 4th line. If I uncomment the 4th line it compiles with debug. Why??
Here is the procedure:
CREATE OR REPLACE
PROCEDURE BOGUS AS
  CURSOR c1 IS
    SELECT dummy FROM DUAL;
--  x c1%ROWTYPE;
  PROCEDURE test ( rec IN OUT c1%ROWTYPE) IS
  begin
    null;
  end;
BEGIN
  NULL;
END BOGUS;Message was edited by:

I played around some more with the procedure and discovered the problem. The key is the compiling with debug. I believe that compile with debug cannot build the debug information for a %ROWTYPE as a parameter. But if I define a local variable of that %ROWTYPE, then the compile with debug knows what debug information to track for the %ROWTYPE.
I discovered that in SQL*Plus it compiles, but when you issue the ALTER PROCEDURE bogus COMPILE DEBUG, it does not compile. This is a problem with the debug option for compiling and not a problem with SQL Developer.
Sorry for the posting. Hopefully this information will save other times and fustration.
Mike

Just for anyone else searching on this bug - I get the same error with certain procedures in TOAD when compiling with DEBUG.
Fortunately nobody here has the first clue how to use TOAD debug so it's only ever switched on by accident or after a reinstall (it's the default) - so turning debug off fixes the problem.

  • Bug report SQL DEVELOPER DATA MODELER

    Hello,
    I think i found a bug using Sql developer data modeler 2.0.0 build 584.
    When importing a DDL file to create a relational model, foreign key constraints might not be created if foreign key uses multiple-field and the fields are not referenced in the same order as the primary key was.
    ex:
    Table FOO ..... PRIMARY KEY (id_1, id_2)
    FOREIGN KEY (id_2, id_1) REFERENCES FOO (id_2, id_1)
    Benjamin
    P.S: Bellow is a portion of SQL code demonstrating the problem:
    -- "_decompte"
    CREATE TABLE "_decompte"(
    numero_rang VARCHAR2(2),
    numero_contrat VARCHAR2(13),
    id_decompte VARCHAR2(19)
    ALTER TABLE "_decompte"
    add CONSTRAINT pk_decompte PRIMARY KEY (numero_rang, numero_contrat, id_decompte);
    -- "_decompte_detail"
    CREATE TABLE "_decompte_detail"(
    numero_rang VARCHAR2(2),
    id_ligne NUMBER(4),
    numero_contrat VARCHAR2(13),
    id_decompte VARCHAR2(19)
    -- "_decompte_detail"
    -- NOT Recognized by SQL DEVELOPER DATA MODELER (fields are not in the same order as primary key definition)
    ALTER TABLE "_decompte_detail"
    add CONSTRAINT fk_decompte_detail_1 FOREIGN KEY (numero_contrat, numero_rang , id_decompte) REFERENCES "_decompte"(numero_contrat, numero_rang , id_decompte);
    -- Recognized by SQL DEVELOPER DATA MODELER
    ALTER TABLE "_decompte_detail"
    add CONSTRAINT fk_decompte_detail_2 FOREIGN KEY (numero_rang, numero_contrat, id_decompte) REFERENCES "_decompte"(numero_rang, numero_contrat, id_decompte);

    Hi,
    Well, I was recently given some database scripts and asked to correct and improve them. These scripts were not generated but rather hand made. Having no access to a DBMS I was just curious about the result of this option in Data modeler and tried it for a better DB overview. I don't need it at all, but I was surprised to discover that the result was a failure. So I tried various scripts until I found the mistake.
    regards.

  • Bug in SQL Developer relating to handling of XMLTYPE columns

    Hi,
    I have found a bug in SQL Developer relating to its handling of XMLTYPE columns.
    Given a table with the following data:
    ID, XML_DATA
    1, <xml here>
    2, <xml here>
    3, <xml here>
    And the following SQL to extract a value from the XML and also an XML fragment as an XMLTYPE:
    SELECT
    EXTRACTVALUE(t.column_value,'/*/USER_ID/text()')user_id
    , t.column_value user_data
    FROM dbuser.mytable m
    , TABLE(XMLSEQUENCE(EXTRACT(m.xml_data, '/*/USER_LIST/USER'))) t
    I get the following:
    user_id, user_data
    jsmith26, (XMLTYPE)
    mjones45, (XMLTYPE)
    sborga31, (XMLTYPE)
    Note that the user_id is correctly extracted, however the XMLTYPE column (user_data) is empty in SQL Developer.
    The same query returns the correct XML data in TOAD.

    Steve,
    So your example is slightly more complex than the one documented for a table in the standard OE schema here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/functions052.htm
    That example works fine on an 11.2.0.1 database with SQL Developer 3.2.20.09.87. Please try the following with your case:
    Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Display Struct Value In Grid (check it off if not already)If that still does not work for Run Statement (query result displayed in the grid, not as script output using Run Script), then please provide a test case based on the Warehouse table in the OE schema (or your case with DDL and DML scripts including the xml data) and I will log a bug.
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Comments:
    The bug has been found by students in our SQL course.
    Using a larger database from that course, the bug can be reproduced
    (same queries as above) at
    http://www.semwebtech.org/sqlfrontend/
    (wrong: 142 answers, correct: 154 answers)
    During reducing it to a simple sample, there were some interesting
    observations: trying with smaller and simpler tables (without the keys)
    and synthetic data, the bug did not occur immediately. When
    restating the query after about one day, the bug occurred. Obviously,
    Oracle creates some index on its own in course of its internal
    optimization that (or more exactly, its usage) exhibits the bug. The
    query plan (showed in SQL Developer) was the same before and after.
    Wolfgang

    There's a typo in the test data - GB should presumably not be in Sweden. However....
    the bug did not occur immediatelyIt's possible. But what would have almost certainly happened is that the execution plan DID change at some point. There are various reasons why it might not be immediate.
    Obviously, Oracle creates some index on its own in course of its internal optimizationFar from obvious, what are you on about?
    The query plan was the same before and afterBet you it wasn't.
    A clear illustration of the issue and indication that it must be a bug is below.
    Simply by hinting a different access method, we can change the result. Therefore, bug.
    See [url http://support.oracle.com]Oracle Support and search for "wrong results".
    Please raise with Oracle Support to get confirmation of bug.
    There have been so many wrong results bugs recently, it's getting ridiculous.
    It's a real issue, IMHO.
    If you can't trust the DB to get your data right....
    Note that the query plan is very much NOT the same and it is the difference in query plan which s that is the root cause of the bug.

  • Insufficient privilege when run SQL in PL/SQL Developer

    Hi,
    My developer had strange behavior when run below SQL from PL/SQL Developer. It will come out with "*Insufficient Privileges*" message.
    SELECT Fiscal
    FROM pmaps_fiscalweekonly
    WHERE intend >= trunc(sysdate)
    AND rownum < 5
    ORDER BY intend ASC;
    Same SQL run without any problem in SQLPLUS and SQL Developer.
    But if we use small asc instead capital ASC, it run without problem also in PL/SQL Developer.
    SELECT Fiscal
    FROM pmaps_fiscalweekonly
    WHERE intend >= trunc(sysdate)
    AND rownum < 5
    ORDER BY intend asc;
    Kindly check if someone have any idea.
    ZlT

    zhilongtan wrote:
    But the privilege problem only happened when capital ASC keyword was used in ORDER BY clause. If small asc keyword was used, it run without problem.
    It seems to me, it does not relate with privilege or role grant. Please advise. Thanks.
    ZlT.I think you should sk this question in a support forum for PL/SQL Developer. The possible bug seems directly connected to this tool. If I remember rightly then this tool is from ALLAutomations. You should ask them. THis forum would be the wrong place to ask.

  • Bug in SQL Server 2008 R2 for Change Data Capture (CDC)

    I'm pretty sure I've encountered a bug in SQL Server 2008 R2 that's been fixed in 2012, regarding changing the design of a database using CDC.  With CDC disabled on a table with sys.sp_cdc_disable_table, I can add a column or change a column's data
    type, but when I call sp_rename, on 2008 R2 I'm getting "Cannot alter column 'xxx' because it is 'REPLICATED'.", even though the table's properties shows "Table is replicated" as False.  In 2012, works fine.
    Even calling sys.sp_cdc_disable_db didn't prevent this error.

    I tried installing as adminstrator and in compatability mode with Windows 7/Vista but that didn't work. Trying to install from the dvd or from the extracted files in my drive made no difference.
    I am now wondering if there is a download link for SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer edition with SP2 included (i.e. not just SP2 but the whole application (5GB+) otherwise I am not sure how to install this.

    Hello,
    1. Please refer to solution provided in below thread
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/61d56f64-2575-4a58-9503-84579476afaf/sql-server-2008-setup-error-attempted-to-perform-an-unauthorized-operation?forum=sqlsetupandupgrade
    2. Make sure you stop antivirus services during running the setup.Make sure you Right click on setup.exe file and select run as administrator.
    If above does not works include below as well
    3. Please verify WMI service is started.
    If WMI is started, consider to repair WMI.

  • Can i run all the SQL And PL/SQL in Oracle SQL Developer?

    hi all
    I have heard that Oracle Sql Developer is a free editor for Oracle DB from Oracle.
    Is it possible to run all the the procedres and functions in that editor
    is there any limitation for that ,can i run all the things that we can run on the SQL Plus
    if anybody knows please let me know
    thanks & regards

    Interesting way of putting it.
    When it comes to SQL and PL/SQL, SQLPlus and SQL Developer do not really 'run' very much.
    Most of the time, these things are just shells that pass the SQL and PL/SQL requests to the appropriate engine (database) which will run the command.
    The challenges are:
    - will the shell interpret the request as something to pass to an engine?
    - will the shell display the response from the engine appropriately?
    For answers to those questions, TongucY provided approriate links.

  • Bug in SQL*Plus 9.2.0.1.0 with 8.1.6 instance.

    WARNING !!!!
    I just installed the client 9.2.0.1.0 but we are still using 8.1.6.3.8 databases on NT.
    There is a major BUG in SQL*Plus 9.2.0.1.0. If you do a select on a sys table that have a LONG column, SQL*Plus exits immediately !!!
    For example if you try the following "select * from dba_views where rownum = 1;" SQL*Plus crash immediately with no error message.
    I could not reproduce this bug with our Unix databases.

    Hi,
    Ok this is defenitly a bug and it can be reproduce with a 9.2.0 client with a 8.1.7 database if and only if the database national character set is WE8ISO8859P1.
    A workaround is to change the national character set from WE8ISO8859P1 to WE8DEC. If you use the regular expression "alter database national character set WE8DEC" you will get an error because WE8DEC is not a superset of WE8ISO8859P1. You will have to use the "INTERNAL_USE" clause as in "alter database national character set INTERNAL_USE WE8DEC".
    The magic INTERNAL_USE clause is not documented anywhere !
    Thanks

  • Creating Data Mining PL/SQL Package in SQL Developer

    hi,
    i have built a model and want to create a PL/SQL package.
    in SQL developer, i launch a "New Gallery", select "All Items" from the drop-down menu, and click on "Database Objects". but in the right window pane, i am not able to see "Data Mining PL/SQL Package" in the options.
    can somebody please tell me how to fix this?
    thanks!

    To verify that Oracle Data Mining PL/SQL Package extension is properly installed, please do the following:
    Select Menu Help->About, click on "Extensions" tab. Look for "Oracle Data Mining PL/SQL Package" in the Name column ( you can sort it).
    If it is, please make a note of the version installed and post it here as well as the SQL Developer version.
    Just to clarify, you don't see "Data Mining PL/SQL Package" item in the "Database Objects" at all or is it grayed out?
    Thanks

  • SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio 2008, download and install

    Hello,
    I have been looking for a while now on where to download and how to install BIDS 2008 on top of my current SQL Server 2008 installation but no luck yet. Would you mind helping me out please.
    FYI, here is my current configuration:
    - SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio installed
    - Visual Studio 2008 installed before the above.
    I've read that I could find a new kind of project (BIDS one) in visual studio but I can't. And from other sources, I should find a link in "All Programms > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 > Business Intelligence Development Studio" but cannot.
    Thank you in advance for pointing me to the download page or any kind of post that could help me out getting this.
    Regards,
    J.

    Which edition of SQL Server 2008 you had installed? Is it SQL 2008 Express? If yes, then make sure you had installed it with Advanced Services:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=B5D1B8C3-FDA5-4508-B0D0-1311D670E336&displaylang=en
    If you had installed SQL Server 2008 from a CD or Media, then you can run the installation media, and make sure you had selected BIDS as an option, along with Management Tools.
    SQL Server Management tools include the following components:
    SQL Server Management Studio
    SQL Server Profiler
    SQL Server Database Tuning Advisor
    Command prompt tools, such as sqlcmd.exe and osql.exe.
    Business Intelligence Development Studio add-ins to Microsoft Visual Studio
    Note that Business Intelligence Development Studio is a separate option during SQL Server installation.
    Hope this helps...

  • Deployment of SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (2008 R2)

    Looking for some guidance on deploying SQL Server Business Intelligence Development studio (2008 R2).  I have a requirement from our Data Warehouse developers, and they require the SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio deployed to
    the server that will hold the production data warehouse.  Is the SQL Server Business Intelligence development studio normally deployed on a production server?
    I am hesitant about installing the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development studio since it's a development tool.  I haven't seen anything that it is required to run the developed objects.
    Any information you can provide will be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    DJ

    Hi DonsJones,
    The SQL Server Business Intelligence Development studio (BIDS) is a client tool for BI Projects development and won’t be installed on the production server in most cases. For a DW/BI system, the BIDS is generally used to develop ETL packages, Data Mining,
    and Reporting. The development activities should be performed in the Dev environment, and the eventually ETL packages or reports should be deployed to the production server or report server. For a production server that will run the ETL packages (usually in
    SQL Server Agent jobs), SSIS should be installed on the production server.

  • Double click to open .sql files with sql developer on mac osx

    hi,
    I am trying to double click a .sql file and open it with SQL Developer on Mac OSX lion. I have associated .sql files to SQL Developer. On clicking the file it opens the SQL developer application but does not open the actual .sql file. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Did you find any solution to your problem ? My SQL Developer worked fine and could open additional SQL files. Now it only opens the first one when starting SQL Developer. Additionnal files cannot be opened. Even running sqldeveloper.exe from command line with a SQL file as parameter doesn't help.
    I'm on Windows 7, 64 bit, but the environment may not necessarily be the cause.

  • SQL DEVELOPER 1.5.3: Export Data options for using SQL to write SQL?

    I write a lot of SQL that generates SQL. In a competitor's product, I can export query results (Export > Save As > Tab Delimited) to the clipboard, paste the generated SQL into a new window, then execute the generated SQL.
    In SQL Developer, using Export Data > Text to the clipboard, it's delimiting each row with double-quotes. Is there any way to turn this behavior off to achieve what I want? Or should I be choosing a different export format?
    For now, I can do a search/replace to eliminate the double-quotes,
    Thanks.
    Dana

    Dana,
    I probably haven't done this with generating thousands of SQL lines, but I have certainly used the Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C (or Ctrl-Shift-C to get headers) to copy thousands of records of result data. Note that the Ctrl-A forces a fetch of all remaining records that have not yet been fetched, which may add to the time taken by the process - for example, running the query fetches the first 50 records and then Ctrl-A will fetch the remaining records as well as selecting them all, however long that takes. Also, there is a noticeable delay with the Ctrl-C for thousands of records - only rough counting but I was seeing a UI freeze for ~ 4 seconds when copying 10000 records from a query with around 30 columns in it (pasting the clipboard into a file produced a file just under 4MB).

  • What is the diffrence between package javax.sql and java.sql

    Is javax designed for J2EE?
    And when to use package javax?

    Hi,
    What is the diffrence between package javax.sql and java.sql?The JDBC 2.0 & above API is comprised of two packages:
    1.The java.sql package and
    2.The javax.sql package.
    java.sql provides features mostly related to client
    side database functionalities where as the javax.sql
    package, which adds server-side capabilities.
    You automatically get both packages when you download the JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition, Version 1.4 (J2SETM) or the JavaTM 2, Platform Enterprise Edition, Version 1.3 (J2EETM).
    For further information on this please visit our website at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/jdbc/index.html
    Hope this helps.
