PL/SQL Input parameter

Beginning my quest to learn PL/SQL....
If you have a procedure which has an input statement which is define like the following...
i_MyField IN OPS_User.MyField%Type
I want this field to accept either NULL or a numeric value. If it is defined on OPS_User.MyField as being numeric and not null, can I still pass nulls to the input parameter?

Hello,
The %TYPE is used to define the type of the input parameter, it does not imply that Oracle will perform runtime check of your arguments.

Passing the same input parameter twise in execute sql task

Hi All, I want to insert some values to 3 different tables in sql server. Execute sql task is used to populate three tables. Here is the sql statement.
DECLARE @Dt AS DATE

INSERT INTO TABLE1 SELECT ?, COL2, COL3 FROM TABLE_A
INSERT INTO TABLE2 SELECT ?, COL2, COL3 FROM TABLE_B
Input parameter is mapped as follows :
Variable name : User::EffectiveDate
Direction : Input Data Type :
Date Parameter name :0
Parameter size :-1
User::EffectiveDate is datetime variable.
When the package is executed, it throws an error.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query " " failed with the following error: "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.". Possible failure reasons: Problems
with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. I am not sure what I am doing wrong here. If anyone could point me to the right direction, I really appreciate.

Your SQL command
DECLARE @Dt AS DATE
SET @Dt = ?
INSERT INTO TABLE1 SELECT ?, COL2, COL3 FROM TABLE_A
INSERT INTO TABLE2 SELECT ?, COL2, COL3 FROM TABLE_B
It using 3 input variables. I assume you didn't pass 3 variables and you want @DT to be column 1 in each. In that case you would use:
DECLARE @Dt AS DATE
SET @Dt = ?
INSERT INTO TABLE1 SELECT @Dt, COL2, COL3 FROM TABLE_A
INSERT INTO TABLE2 SELECT @Dt, COL2, COL3 FROM TABLE_B

PL/SQL Associative Array as INPUT Parameter

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone out there has a good example of how to get VB.NET (using ODP.NET 9.2.0.4) to pass an Associative Array as an Input parameter to a stored procedure (not for bulk binds)? Specifically, I'm looking for an example of how a VB Strong Typed Collection would be passed through the PLSQLAssociativeArray Collection Type.
I've managed to get a test to work by passing a 1-D String Array through the ODP.NET layer to the PL/SQL AssociativeArray parameter. But I've had zero success trying to get the Collection from VB through ODP.NET.

For example, if I wanted to return a list of customer ids and names into A PLSQL Associative Array, how would I do it. I know how to return a list of customer ids into a PLSQL associative aray using the code below but I have to specify the maximum number of elements and the maximum size of each of the elements. Is there any way around this?

How to execute PL/SQL query based on given input parameter

Hi all,
I have a pl/sql code which is in Region source. It extracts data from database. I want to execute the code based on input I give. I have to give date as a input parameter.
e.g.
If I give date1 as a parameter, then following code should executed
select col1, col2,..... from Table where date1 between '01-jan-2010' and '31-jan-2010'
If I give date2 as a parameter, then following code should executed
select col1, col2,..... from Table where date2 between '01-jan-2010' and '31-jan-2010'

Passing multiple values to a single input parameter

Hi folks,
I have a Microstrategy query successfully passing input parameter to a calculation view. For example I can pass a movement type to a material movements calculation view input parameter. However if I try to pick more than one movement type the query then fails;
Generated SQL that works looks like this;

Is it possible to pass multiple values in a single parameter? I'm using SP67 for this test.

Ravi, also to answer one of your questions about how this will work in Microstrategy; I just heard back from my Microstrategy developer and he is trying MSTR Freeform SQL query with syntax like this;
select (sumPAR_TEST.TOTALQUANTITY TOTALQUANTITY
from "_SYS_BIC"."MyPackage/CA_TEST_PASS_PARAMETER"
('PLACEHOLDER' =('$$MoveType$$', '[Movement Type]')) PAR_TEST
In this example [Movement Type] is the microstrategy prompt. Unfortunately though it translates like this which is missing extra single quotes around each value;
select     sum(PAR_TEST.TOTALQUANTITY) TOTALQUANTITY
from     "_SYS_BIC"."development.pr1959/CA_TEST_PASS_PARAMETER"
('PLACEHOLDER' = ('$$MoveType$$', ''101', '102''))   PAR_TEST
instead of what we need which is;
('PLACEHOLDER' = ('$$MoveType$$', '''101'', ''102'''))   PAR_TEST
So at this point we are not sure if this will be possible or not.

I have a requirement for a discoverer report like this: The report will display only details for Suppliers that have expired (or soon to be) Insurance details. That is the Expiration Date is less than or equal to the day the report is being run plus any days specified in the Number of Days in the Future Parameter.
The sample code as:

How can I pass <No. of Days in the Future> as a user input parameter in discoverer?

All you need to do is to create the condition in the discoverer instead of in the query.
Create a custom folder containing the following sq (note that i removed the condition)l:
SELECT s.segment1 vendor_number
,s.vendor_name
,flv1.meaning classification

,pca.expiration_date
,flv2.meaning status
FROM ap_suppliers s
,pos_bus_class_attr pca
,fnd_lookup_values flv1

AND flv1.lookup_code = pca.lookup_code
AND flv1.lookup_type = pca.lookup_type
AND flv2.lookup_code = pca.class_status
AND flv2.lookup_type = 'POS_BUS_CLASS_STATUSES'
Then create a discoverer report using this folder using all fields.
Create a new calculation as (use this exact syntax):
Sysdate + :No_of_Days_in_the_Future
Create a new condition:
pca.expiration_date <= <your calculation>
To complete it add a sort as you did in the SQL.
That's it.

Trying to get the input parameter of a web service fxn based on table value

I am new to ADF and Jdev 11g (I am a forms developer). I had created a web service from a pl/sql stored db package. I can successfully execute a function with an input parameter from ADF Faces.
Instead of the input parameter being enterable by the user, I would like it to be based on a selected ADF table column value. How would I correlate the selected row column value as the function input parameter?
I played with an ADF output text based on the ADF table column with the PartialTriggers value set to the ADF table...which updates the output text based on the column selected. Do I use some sort of partial trigger on the input parameter?
From a forms point of view, I am looking for the "Copy Value from Item" property :)

But if your table is bound to a ViewObject, it will be easier to get the current selection.
Supose your table is bound to iterator1.
In your backBean code:

Date Format on OWB 11.1.0.7 to use for input parameter for a mapping

All,
What is the Date Format on OWB 11.1.0.7 to use for passing in an input parameter for a mapping to execute?
I have tried '01-01-2010','01-JAN-2010','01.01.2010', 01/01/2010 and I get the following error:
Error RPE-01003: An infrastructure condition prevented the request from completing.
Error RPE-01038: Failed to evaluate expression declare l_expression DATE := 01/01/2010;begin :result := wb_rt_conversions.from_date(l_expression);end;. Please modify the expression, redeploy and retry again.

I am using a Mapping Input parameter object and have a START_DATE_IN as a DATE and an END_DATE_IN as a DATE

The function wb_rt_conversions.from_date is (at least in OWB10.2) overloaded and can with input-types as
date, timestamp_unconstrained, timestamp_tz_unconstrained, timestamp_ltz_unconstrained or varchar2.
If it doesn't work with varchar2 I would try Date:
For example: to_date('2010-01-01','YYYY-MM-DD')

How to Receive soap input parameter value in BPEL

Hi
Please provide the solution to receive the input parameter value from a soap call i.e. . invoking a BPEL process from a PL/SQL client and with input parameter value.
Following Xpath expression does not work ,if a value is passed from SOAP input parameter
bpws:getVariableData('receiveInput_process_InputVariable','payload',/client:Test_ExternalcallProcessRequest/client:input).
This works fine only if avalue is passed from 'client' partnerlink(from console).
Please do the needful.

Calling Stored Procedure with a DATE input parameter

Hi. A question about Date input parameters when calling a stored procedure...
I have a procedure that takes a DATE parameter as input. I would like that DATE value to include a Time element.
My Application Module method takes an input parameter as java.util.Date (myParamDate) - which will preserve a time element(?).
However when I create the CallableStatement, I'm trying to set the parameter using setDate like this (for param 5):

It includes time element, if you want more precision go with timestamp.

Calling PLSQL Procedure with CLOB input parameter from JDBC

I've got a PLSQL procedure with a CLOB object as input parameter:

I want to call that procedure from my JDBC Application as...
String data = "..."
CallableStatement proc = conn.prepareCall

neither
proc.setCharacterStream(2, new StringReader(data, data.length());
nor
proc.setString(2, data);
will work.
The Application throws java.sql.Exception: ... PLS-00306 wrong
number or types of arguments in call 'SAVEPROJECT'
How can I use set setClob method?
The Problem is: with Oracles CLOB implementation I can't create
an Instance, and from the CallableStatement a can't get a
Locator for a CLOB-Object.
This CLOB stuff makes me really nuts!

You can not make it like that.
You can not make clob as input parameter.
Do you want an easy way?
This is the easy way.
sample:
function myFunction(S varchar2(40))
return integer as
begin
insert into TableAAA values(S)
--TableAAA only contains 1 column of clob type
end;
This will work the problem with this is the parameter is in
varchar2 right? so there will be limited length for it.
You can do this to call that function:
nyFunction('My String that will be input into clob field');
There's another slight difficult way, I understand that you have
installed Oracle client/server in your system, try to look at
jdbc folder and try to find demo.zip in that folder, you can
find several ways of doing thing with jdbc.
