PL/SQL Record/TABLE - Populate and Select

Hello All,
I've read through a lot of threads and can't seem to get any closer to understanding what I'm doing wrong.
My scenario is that I need to run a a few sql staments and procedures on remote and all this from a python script. My limitations is that I cannot create any database objects on the remote databases.
So what I was thinking of doing is create a record and a type as table. Afterwards I would execute the inidividual sql statements and update the 1 single record.
At the end I would then just do a select of the record. If I cannot slect then I need to return this as some sort of standard "record" as those returned by calling cursor.execute(). Possibly just returning the entire record.
Maybe I don't even need the table, since it will always only be 1 record per execution.?
Where I'm stuck is I don't know how to:
============================
- selecting that record .
- returning the record
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you want to use nested table, then you can do this.
Initialize the collection with the default constructor:
Declare
t_invoice_det invoice_det_type.t_invoice_tab := invoice_det_type.t_invoice_tab ();
Use the built in collection method EXTEND(n) to increase the size of the collection and assign values:
BEGIN
t_invoice_det.EXTEND;
t_invoice_det(l_count).t_inv_invno := l_inv_invno;
t_invoice_det(l_count).t_pol_pid := l_pol_cur.pol_pid;
t_invoice_det(l_count).t_pol_hist := l_pol_cur.pol_hist;
t_invoice_det(l_count).t_pol_price := l_pol_cur.pol_price;
t_invoice_det(l_count).t_pol_tax := l_pol_cur.pol_tax;
t_invoice_det(l_count).t_pol_status := l_pol_cur.pol_status;
END;

  • Service Tax Condition record - Table-3 and access sequence MWST

    Dear All,
    For maintaining the service tax conditon record , it is required to have the condition record to maintain under Tax classification table, which is available in access sequence MWST or we can add this condition table( table no :3) in any other access sequence and that access sequence needs to be assigned in Service tax condition type i.e JSRT, becasue system will check the rates from the table A003 while doing the service tax transfer from intermediate account to service tax account in report RFUMSV50.
    But the issue in there is NO validity period defined in the condition table : 3 , which signifies that we can not maintain the service tax condition record along with the validity period.
    Is there any way , we can add validity period field in Tax classification table.
    and how can we see the maintainace of Taxes table , is there any T.code avaiable for the same, as I could't find the same.\
    Please suggest.
    Thanks & Regards
    Nitin

    Hi Nitin,
    SD can give validity period for a tax code either for an individual customer or for all the customers through their pricing conditions.

  • Data Pump .xlsx into a SQL Server Table and the whole 32-Bit, 64-Bit discussion

    First of all...I have a headache!
    Found LOTS of Google hits when trying to data pump a .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table. And the whole discussion of the Microsoft ACE 64-Bit Driver or the Microsoft Jet 32-Bit Driver.
    Specifically receiving this error...
    An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft Office Access Database Engine"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "External table is not in the expected format.".
    Error: 0xC020801C at Data Flow Task to Load Alere Coaching Enrolled, Excel Source [56]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager"
    failed with error code 0xC0202009.
    Strangely enough, if I simply data pump ONE .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table utilizing my SSIS Package, it seems to work fine. If instead I am trying to be pro-active and allowing for multiple .xlsx Files by using a Foreach Loop Container and a variable
    @[User::FileName], it's erroring out...but not really because it is indeed storing the rows onto the SQL Server Table. I did check all my Delay
    Why does this have to be sooooooo difficult???
    Can anyone help me out here in trying to set-up a SSIS Package in a rather constrictive environment to pump a .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table? What in God's name am I doing wrong? Or is all this a misnomer? But if it's working how do I disable the error
    so that is stops erroring out?

    Hi ITBobbyP,
    According to your description, when you import data of .xlsx file to SQL Server database, you got the error message.
    The error can be caused by the following reasons:
    The excel file is locked by other processes. Please kindly resave this file and name it to other file name to see if the issue will be fixed.
    The ACE(Access Database Engine) is not up to date as Vaibhav mentioned. Please download the latest ACE and install it from the link:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255.
    The version of OFFICE and server bitness is not the same. To solve the problem, please refer to the following document:

  • Creating and selecting from a dynamic table

    Hi,
    Iam trying to create a table dynamically and selecting from it in same plsql block, but am getting "table doesnot exist" error. however if i just create a table dynamically and then do a select on it seperately it works..
    below is sample code for the same,
    working
    Line: -----
    DECLARE
    loc VARCHAR2(20):='bglr';
    l_cnt pls_integer;
    BEGIN
    -- create an employee information table
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE
    'CREATE TABLE ' || 'emp_bglr' ||
    empno NUMBER(4) NOT NULL,
    ename VARCHAR2(10),
    job VARCHAR2(9),
    sal NUMBER(7,2),
    deptno NUMBER(2)
    end;
    select count(*) from emp_bglr ...works and return me 0 rows
    Line: -----
    but when i include select in plsql block ..it throws "Table does not exists" error...(iam running below plsql block after dropping the created table)
    not working
    Line: -----
    DECLARE
    loc VARCHAR2(20):='bglr';
    l_cnt pls_integer;
    BEGIN
    -- create an employee information table
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE
    'CREATE TABLE ' || 'emp_bglr' ||
    empno NUMBER(4) NOT NULL,
    ename VARCHAR2(10),
    job VARCHAR2(9),
    sal NUMBER(7,2),
    deptno NUMBER(2)
    --COMMIT;
    END;
    Select count(*) into l_cnt from emp_bglr;
    dbms_output.put_line('cnt is '||l_cnt);
    end;
    Line: -----

    Becuase your code is first checked for syntax/object existance during compilation and throws an error saying the table does not exist.
    Try this:
    SQL> ed

    19  dbms_output.put_line('data cnt is '||l_cnt);

  • Need help for record/table type

    Hi, All,
    I have a table below and I need to use a procedure/function to return a list of values out and use anther procedure (array with multiple values in) to update the database. Could someone please give some examples?
    Here are my questions:
    1.     I need to create a user_defined_type to hold the list of info (array like, with more fields). Does the table type with %rowtype do that? If not, Could you please give an example?
    2.     if I do
    SELECT * INTO V_test(1) FROM PREO_profile
    where user_id = '1';
    can the 3 records of user_id 1 all be selected in the V_test table? If not, could you please tell me what to do?
    Thanks a lot.
    PREO_profile:
    User_id     N_id          M_id
    1      11 111
    1      22 222
    1      33 333
    2      11 111
    2      22 222
    2      33 333
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE test_updatePro
    (user_id in varchar2,
    profile_info out T_Test)AS
    Type T_Test is table of PREO_profile%rowtype
    index by binary_integer;
    V_test T_Test;
    BEGIN
         SELECT * INTO V_test(1) FROM PREO_profile
         where user_id = '1';
    END;

    Here is one approach. This works in 9iR2. It's worth noting this functionality is evolving quite fast. Consequently, stuff that works in 9.2 may well not work in 9.0.1 and can probably be done much neater in 10g.
    Let's start by creating some tables....
    SQL> CREATE TABLE preo (user_id NUMBER, m_id NUMBER, n_id NUMBER);
    Table created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO preo VALUES (1, 11, 111);
    1 row created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO preo VALUES (1, 22, 222);
    1 row created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO preo VALUES (1, 33, 333);
    1 row created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO preo VALUES (2, 11, 111);
    1 row created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO preo VALUES (2, 22, 222);
    1 row created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO preo VALUES (2, 33, 333);
    1 row created.
    SQL> CREATE TABLE neo_preo AS SELECT * FROM preo WHERE 1=0;
    Table created.
    SQL> We'll need some types we need for communicating between processes....
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE preo_t AS OBJECT (u_id NUMBER, n_id NUMBER, m_id NUMBER);
      2  /
    Type created.
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE preo_nt IS TABLE OF preo_t;
      2  /
    Type created.
    SQL> Here are methods to populate an array (actually a nested table)....
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION get_preo (p_uid IN NUMBER) RETURN preo_nt
      2  AS
      3    return_value preo_nt := preo_nt();
      4  BEGIN
      5    SELECT preo_t(user_id, n_id, m_id)
      6    BULK COLLECT INTO return_value
      7    FROM   preo
      8    WHERE  user_id = p_uid;
      9    RETURN return_value;
    10  END;
    11  /
    Function created.
    SQL>... and consume that array....
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE ins_neo_preo (p_newrows IN preo_nt)
      2  AS
      3  BEGIN
      4     INSERT INTO neo_preo
      5     SELECT * FROM TABLE(CAST(p_newrows AS preo_nt));
      6  END;
      7  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL> So now we're ready to rock!
    SQL> DECLARE
      2      nt  preo_nt;
      3  BEGIN
      4      nt := get_preo(1);
      5      ins_neo_preo(nt);
      6  END;
      7  /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL>
    SQL> SELECT * FROM neo_preo
      2  /
       USER_ID       M_ID       N_ID
             1        111         11
             1        222         22

  • Recreating SQL Server Tables on Oracle

    Hello,
    I need to recreate several SQL Server tables in Oracle and am trying to figure out if there is an easier way to do it other than manually recreating them.
    I have the SQL Server table scripts, and I have data load xls files that also contain the column names. I use TOAD for Oracle to do my database management, but there is currently no way to autmoatically create a table based on an external file.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Christine

    Manually re-creating these SQL Server tables for Oracle is exactly the right thing to do.
    SQL Server != Oracle
    In other words, there are numerous differences. You need to look at each table and decide on the type of table (hash table, index organised table, partitioned tables), whether to cluster tables, the types of indexes to use, the data types for the columns to use (Oracle does not have boolean or auto incrementing data types). Oracle supports LONG, RAW, CLOB and BLOB for dealing with different types of binary and large data structures. LONG for example should not be used anymore. There are also specialised data types like BFILE. One can also define your own SQL data types.
    You will only be doing yourself a favour, and the final database application, by going through the learning curve and manually converting each and every table. And no, it is not a huge task either. It sounds a lot more daunting that what it really is.

  • Dynamically assigning to PL/SQL Record

    I want to write a procedure to which i pass the the pl/sql record, field name and the value,
    and the Assignment to the field in pl/sql record is done dynamically.
    Thanks,
    null

    Name of the record variable is not required to assign value it it. When you declare the procedure, declare the parameter as INOUT. You can assign value the parameter directly whic will in turn affect the original record you passed in!
    Let me know if this solved your problem.

  • Using combination of insert into and select to create a new record in the table

    Hello:
    I'm trying to write a stored procedure that receives a record locator parameter
    and then uses this parameter to locate the record and then copy this record
    into the table with a few columns changed.
    I'll use a sample to clarify my question a bit further
    -- Create New Amendment
    function create_amendment(p_mipr_number in mipr.mipr_number%TYPE, p_new_amendment_number in mipr.amendment_number%TYPE)
    return integer is
    new_mipr_id integer;
    begin
    THIS is causing me grief See comments after this block of code
    insert into mipr
    (select mipr_id from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number),
    (select fsc from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number),
    45,
    (select price from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number),
    practical,
    (select part_number from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number);
    THe above will work if I say the following
    insert into mipr
    (select * from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number);
    BUt, Of course this isn't what I want to do... I want to duplicate a record and change about 3 or 4 fields .
    How do I use a combination of more than one select and hard coded values to insert a new record into the table.
    /** Ignore below this is fine... I just put a snippet of a function in here ** The above insert statement is what I need help with
    select (mipr_id) into new_mipr_id from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number + amendment_number=(select max(amendment_number) + 1);
    return new_mipr_id;
    end;
    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
    KT

    function create_amendment(p_mipr_number in mipr.mipr_number%TYPE)
    return integer is
    new_mipr_id integer;
    tmp_number number;
    tmp_mipr_id integer;
    begin
    tmp_number :=(select max(amendment_number) from mipr where mipr_number=p_mipr_number);
    Question:
    tmp_number :=1; works..
    tmp_number doesn't work with the select statement?
    Obviously I'm a novice! I can't find anything in my book regarding tmp variables... What should I look under is tmp_number a
    variable or what? In my Oracle book, variable means something different.
    Thanks!

  • I need some working examples with pl/sql records and pl/sql tables.

    i am new to pl/sql tables and pl/sql records. i need some working examples on pl/sql records and pl/sql tables from basics to hoghlevel.how to use then procedures and functions and packages.

    i am new to pl/sql tables and pl/sql records. i need some working examples on pl/sql records and pl/sql tables from basics to hoghlevelThere is no such thing as PL/SQL "+tables+". This is a misnomer and creates the perception that a PL/SQL "table" is somewhat like a SQL table. Nothing can be further from the truth. The correct term is "+collection+" or "+associative array+". Compared to SQL tables, these are very primitive structures, very rigid structures, cannot scale, and can be quite expensive memory wise.
    That is not to say do not use an associative array or collection. These are very useful tools.. but only when applied correctly. Like using a collection for a bulk fetch to transfer more rows between the PL and SQL engines and thus decrease context switching.
    Unfortunately, quite often we see the row-by-row and slow-by-slow approach - where the developer uses SQL as an I/O only layer, pulls rows into expensive PL engine memory into record structures and arrays, and then process the rows there.
    So before looking at working example (even the wrong approach's code will compile and run and work in practice), make sure that you know the fundamentals of correctly using the PL engine and correctly using the SQL engine. And these fundamentals can be summed up into a very basic rule:
    Maximize SQL. Minimize PL/SQL+
    Get this rule right, and you will have a sound foundation for writing performant and scalable Oracle applications.

  • LOV an SQL : how to configure a select list to get all records

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle 10g with APEX 2.0.
    Here is my question:
    I have a report and I am using 3 text fields and a select list to search through a join of two tables. The select list is composed of a "list of values" and the parameter, which is used in the SQL-sentence, has a numeric value.
    Result table after the join operation looks like this:
    Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4 (By assuming the field3 is the one which used in the select list.)
    21a this 1000 bn
    21a that 1001 vb
    33c thus 1012 ct
    What I want to do is to set another parameter-value pair in the select list to let user choose the "ALL" of the mentioned items in the select list so that the search will return all the records without having taken this select list-field into consideration.
    Is it possible to do it with LOV and SQL? Do I need any other functions? or configurations?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sedef

    Hi user630478!
    I always use a select list with submit and the option to get a NULL-Value for such things. To solve your problem do the following things:
    1.) Create two named LOVs. One as you already did and another one for all values.
    2.) Your select list with submit should be configured to show a NULL-Value e. g. it shows ALL with the value 0.
    3.) Create two conditional branches that work together with your select list. One that show the normal results if a user has clicked on a normal value and the second should act only if a user has clicked on ALL.
    4.) Write a process that switches the LOVs in your select list from one to the other. This process should only be fired if the second conditional branch has been actived.
    Maybe if I understood right that's what you want to know.
    yours sincerely

  • SQL: System locks up and runs slow after performing simple DML record insert

    SQL Version:  2008 R2
    I am having a serious problem.  I ran the following code to perform a simple table record insert which ran successfully.  However, after running this code I could no longer access the related table.  I couldn't run a query against it.
    I tried to delete all the records and that wouldn't work either.  When attempting to run any DML statements (i.e. Select * From vPCCertificateTypes) against this table SQL gets locked up and never returns anything and no error messages.  I have
    to manually stop the query.  Now the entire SQL system is running slow.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The code I ran to originally insert the records is below.
    Regards,
    Bob Sutor
    CODE:
    Begin TRAN
     INSERT INTO vPCCertificateTypes (VendorGroup, CertificateType, Description, Active, Category)
     SELECT HQCo, 'MBE', 'Minority-owned Business Enterprise', 'Y', 'Affirmative Action'
     FROM HQCO
     Where HQCo IS NOT NULL
      AND HQCo <> 100
      AND HQCo <> 99
     IF @@ROWCOUNT <> 44 ROLLBACK ELSE COMMIT
    Bob Sutor

    The problem was an open uncommitted transaction against the table as you suspected.  I ran your code and it cleared the transaction.  In the past I would intentionally leave our the Commit statement and then if the transaction ran fine, I would
    simply highlight and run 'COMMIT' and it would close the transaction.  Apparently that is not the correct approach.  I'll use your suggested code from now on.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Unable To Select From SQL Server table with more than 42 columns

    I have set up a link between a Microsoft SQL Server 2003 database and an Oracle 9i database using Heterogeneous Services (HSODBC). It's working well with most of the schema I'm selecting from except for 3 tables. I don't know why. The common denominator between all the tables is that they all have at least 42 columns each, two have 42 columns, one has 56, and the other one, 66. Two of the tables are empty, one has almost 100k records, one has has 170k records. So I don't think the size of the table matters.
    Is there a limitation on the number of table columns you can select from through a dblink? Even the following statement errors out:
    select 1
    from "Table_With_42_Cols"@sqlserver_db
    The error message I get is:
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message [Generic Connectivity Using ODBC]
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from sqlserver_db
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Not a very efficient and space friendly design to do name-value pairs like that.
    Other methods to consider is splitting those 1500 parameters up into groupings of similar parameters, and then have a table per group.
    Another option would be to use "vertical table partitioning" (as oppose to the more standard horizontal partitionining provided by the Oracle partition option) - this can be achieved (kind of) in Oracle using clusters.
    Sooner or later this name-value design is going to bite you hard. It has 1500 rows where there should be only 1 row. It is not scalable.. and as you're discovering, it is unnatural to use. I would rather change that table and design sooner than later.

  • Find record insert date and time in a table

    Hi All,
    I want to get record insert date and time in a table. There is no datetime column in my table. Are there any possibility to get date and time for each record?
    Thank You

    Thats not easy. If your transaction info still resides on active portion of the log you can use fn_dblog to read out the time at which the transactions occurs. This is useful only if you try it shortly after transaction.
    the code would look like this
    SELECT *
    FROM fn_dblog(null,null)
    WHERE [Transaction Name] LIKE 'INSERT%'
    OR [Transaction Name] LIKE 'UPDATE%'

  • List all the table names and no of records in DB.

    Hi,
    How can i write a select query which should give the total tables in the database and the number of records in each table.
    Eg: I have 2 table in the database 1. EMP 2. DEPT . EMP table has 14 records and DEPT has 4 records. Then the out put should come like following.
    TNAME RecCount
    EMP 14
    DEPT 4
    Regards
    Bond.

    Also if Table statistics have been gathered(analyze table or DBMS_STATS) then this can also be used:
    SQL> create table TEST_ABC
      2  (name_ABC varchar2(200));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into TEST_ABC
      2  values('ABC');
    1 row created.
    SQL> insert into TEST_ABC
      2  values('DEF');
    1 row created.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select table_name, num_rows from all_tables where table_name = 'TEST_ABC';
    TABLE_NAME                       NUM_ROWS
    TEST_ABC
    SQL> analyze table TEST_ABC compute statistics;
    Table analyzed.
    SQL> select table_name, num_rows from all_tables where table_name = 'TEST_ABC';
    TABLE_NAME                       NUM_ROWS
    TEST_ABC                                2
