Place background image in a new template

I would like to have my new template open with a static image for the browser background. I'd like the image to not scroll as well. How do I do that in the XML code?
I've checked several forum posts and all of them refer to how to set the background post-publishing in the HTML but there's nothing so far as to how to set it in the actual template files themselves.
Any help would be appreciated!!

  • CSS for background image not transfering from template to new page

    I have a gradient .gif in my templates which suddenly no longer transfers from the template to  a new page created from the template.  Everything else about the template transfers.  I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 on a Mac running OS 10.6.  I've pasted the CSS from the template and the new page below.  I've tried the usual voodoo--restart program, restart computer, repair permissions, delete preference file, delete personal configuration file.
    CSS from Template:
    .container {
        background-color: #ececec;
        background-image: url(../images/faux_column.png);
        background-repeat: repeat-y;
        height: 650px;
        width: 650px;
    CSS from page created from Template looks to be the same, but is greyed out in the code, and the background-image entry is not present in the CSS styles inspector:
    .container {
        background-color: #ececec;
        background-image: url(../images/faux_column.png);
        background-repeat: repeat-y;
        height: 650px;
        width: 650px;
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Unfortunately, I don't yet have a site where I can post the page.  I'm new to this, and doing everything locally for now.
    After careful rechecking, I found that the links for the template and the child were not the same, as you suspected.  So I carefully changed the links to site root relative, which worked for the background CSS in my test image.  I then did the same for all of the links to pages on my site, and checked that all were OK with Link Checker in DW.  I guess that was a mistake, because now most of them don't work when tested in Firefox--I get the message File not found.  Must be doing something wrong.

  • Can you "bleed" a background image through a DW template?

    I'm in the process of redesigning a simple site and am fairly new to working with DW. I created a template with navigation along the left side and a content box on the right. The client requests a background image (which I set in the CSS body tag). However, once I set the content portion of the template it sits on top of the background image (effectively blocking out portions of the background image). I need it to "bleed" through so that the background image covers the entire screen content.
    Example: http://www.mchenrycac.org/test/index.html (or see image in the attachment)
    Can anyone suggest how to get the image to show through the content portion of the template?
    Russ

    It took me a few "tries" to place the code in the right place (and a few
    different iterations of the example given on the site) but the opacity tag
    does work as suggested. Setting the opacity to 100% allows the entire
    background to bleed through as I needed.
    I had to completely remove the suggested CSS tags for IE7 and IE8 however
    and go with just the opacity tag. Tested this in IE8 and Firefox and both
    display the opacity correctly with the single opacity statement:
    .opaque
    The class was added to the table statement in my template (the table that
    contains the content area for every web page) and works beautifully. Thank
    you for the quick response...

  • Background image path changes in Template

    I have a template I've created, but whenever I attempt to
    create a new page from that template the path to the background
    image changes automatically causing it to disappear.
    The template displays this path:
    body {
    background-image: url(../img/bg.gif);
    background-repeat: repeat-y;
    background-position: center;
    background-color: #E8F1FA;
    While the page created from the template shows this path:
    body {
    background-image: url(file:///B|/Web
    Development/website/img/bg.gif);
    background-repeat: repeat-y;
    background-position: center;
    background-color: #E8F1FA;
    What is causing this? Thanks in advance.

  • How to make background image editable in a template

    I have built a template and would like to make the background
    image editable, but not the rest of the settings in the body style.
    (I'm not sure of my terminology yet.) The background image is
    currently set in the locked part of the page. I've tried to insert
    an editable region in the html code, as I cannot get to the
    background image by clicking on it or selecting on the Design page.
    But I am not allowed to change the code in this way.
    What is the best way to do this? I'm not sure how to make a
    div of this one setting. Or even if that is what is needed.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    So to give a different background image to different pages using CSS.
    Create a CSS file in your Dreamweaver site.
    Link it to your pages.(in your head tag like so: <link href="path/to/stylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />)
    In your HTML code find the body tag and give it an id (like so: <body id="myUniqueID">)
    In your stylesheet write the following code:
    #myUniqueID{
    background: #color, url("path/to/image.jpeg") repeat);
    And now extrapolate the above steps and code to your other pages and voila, you now have different background images for your different pages.

  • Marking green screen video to know where to place background images

    My students want to create short green screen movies using a number of background photos that will change as they talk about their topic. How can they mark their green screen video so they will know where to place each photo?  We are using iMovie 11.  Thanks

    If that's the case.  You don't need green screen at all.
    You can shoot the students framed in such a way as to allow room for the photos and then use Picture in Picture.
    Here's a how-to from the MacMost site.  It's for iMovie '09 but is essentially the same for iMovie '11.

    In the images folder of my project I have placed the mylogo.gif file and
    <TD class="prtlHeaderNotch" id="header_notch" nowrap><img src="<%=themeRootURLPath%>/../common/1x1.gif" class="prtlHeaderNotchImgWidth"></TD>

  • Setting background-image as editable in Fluid Grid Layout (Template file)

    Hi, Im very basic on Dreamweaver so bare with me,
    I am creating my first website and setting up my template file.
    I am struggling with making my background image editable in the template file,
    Alot of the awnsers point me into creating a new background style sheet which I have done.
    I have included :
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="../Background style sheet.css" type="text/css">
    into my <head> in the source code and now im pretty lost for what to do next... I want to link it to all my mobile, tablet and desktop #main divs and then be able to edit the background image for my different web pages;
    for example my home page is one background-image and then the other web pages all have other background images.
    Sorry if I am not asking the right questions, I am very new to coding
    Regards,
    Confused Graphic Design student.

    It's actually very easy to target the <body> of each page in an external stylesheet to change the background individually, just not with DW Templates.
    Normally, what I would do is give each page's <body> tag an id, for example, on an about.html page...
    <body id="about">
    Then in the css, you would give the #about id a background-image setting...
    #about {
         background-image:url(about_bg.jpg);
    Each page would have a similarly named id in the <body> and a corresponding #id in the css.
    Side Note: Stick to lower case, alpha numeric file names for all of your pages and images. Use underscores or hyphens instead of spaces for them too. Servers are CaSe SenSitIvE and a link to Index.html (capital i) will not go to a page named index.html (lowercase i). It will work on your local system, just not on the server because the server sees the case structure difference as two separate files.

  • Background image in a div?

    I know how to use css to place a background image inside a
    div. However, I would like that image to be contextual, and be
    differrent depending what the current page is. As an hypothetical
    example, I would like a non-repeating background image of an apple
    inside <div class="content"> when the page apples.html is
    open, but then an image of a banana would be the background image
    inside <div class="content"> for bananas.html.
    If there is a way to place background images on the fly,
    directly in the html, that would be the better solution for this
    novice.
    Thanks for any help!
    r

    Do it this way -
    <style type="text/css">
    div.content { background-repeat:no-repeat; }
    #apples div.content {
    background-image:url(/images/apple.jpg); }
    #banana div.content {
    background-image:url(/images/banana.jpg); }
    </style>
    (put this in the head of each page (or put the rules into a
    site-wide
    external stylesheet)
    Now, on the apples page, change this -
    <body>
    to this -
    <body id="apples">
    and on the bananas page, change it to this -
    <body id="bananas">
    Get it?

  • HTML Emails and background images in Dreamweaver

    Hello.  I created a HTML email in Dreamweaver.  The original design came out of Indesign and had very specific background art.  I removed all the text out of the Indesign and created a jpg.  I took this jpg in Photoship and sliced and optimized it.  I imported this HTML into Dreamweaver.  Here I need to add in all the text (which is variable).  I was originally thinking that you can only place background images with CSS.  But I was told that you should not use CSS for HTML emails.  So instead I left all the background art as normal images inside of a table.  At this point I need to add text over these images.  They only way I could figure out to do it was to add a div tag right over the image and type into there.  This seemed to work fine but when I tested it in some emails all the div tags with text showed up under the table with images.  This needed to display over.  What is the best way to handle this issue?  Thank you in advance.
    Melanie

    Sorry, but you cannot layer text over images in emails.  Simplify your design or make an image with text on it in Photoshop. Use absolute URLs to images on your web server. And give people who can't see graphics and HTML pages in their email client a link to the HTML page on your web server.

    Anyone know if this is possible to do with an AppleScript or another method?

    Hello Chet,
    Take a look at this posting that gives instructions on how to set/change a back ground image.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/44191/how-modifychange-background-image-ip-phone-new
    One gotcha that I have ran into before, is the List.xml file needs to be modified in WORD.
    To change the background image on a phone from the call manager, you will need to:
    ->uncheck the option "enable end user to access phone background", under -> Device -> Device settings -> common phone profile.  However, when we made this change, all phones restarted and all calls were dropped!!!!!
    ->Enter background image name in the "background image field" toward the bottom of the phone configuration page.  Only name of the image is needed, not the path.
    In earlier releases of callmanager you could not change the background image from the ccm.  The work around that I used was to use an app called Phonedesigner.
    Hope this helps,
    if so, please rate.

  • Can a script be written to take the next 2 files in a folder and place them on a background image..then saving with the first images filename..?

    Hello all, I hope you can help.
    In Photoshop I have a problem to overcome and have delved into the world of scripting..
    If there is a quick way to produce the following could someone help me with some pointers?
    Here is my situation..
    I need to produce a photograph proof card, these are for a double image option so cause me a headache compared to just creating an action..
    This proof card really is just a set of two different photographs placed onto a background image.
    I would produce two different images of the same person and name them exactly the same except they are suffixed with an A or B to keep them together, these would be in a folder with approx 500 other images for example (250 x two of each person)
    My preference for the process would be done in the following sequence:
    1/ Open the background file jpg (which is sized at 2400 x 1800 pixels @ 300dpi)
    2/ Load the first image from the batch file and place this.
    3/ Get the filename of the first image and create it as a text layer and write it below the image at 10 point text size.
    4/ Create another copy of this layer and change the font to 3of9barcode font, however the font needs an asterisk before the text then again after it. e.g. *filenameA*
         Only the first image has the need for a barcode as they are for the same person. This is at 18 point.
    5/ Load the next sequential image from the batch file and place this.
    6/ Get the filename for the second image and as Item 3/ create a text layer below at 10 point text size.
    7/ Place a png overlay with my copyright information over the images (I need to do this twice, once for each image)
    8/ Flatten the images and save the file in a new folder with the same filename as the first image.
    I can do this in Lightroom with the exception of putting the barcoded text, and the filenaming, this is because the background image is used as the identity plate and the filename is not based on the data from either photograph..
    Can anyone shed some light on where to go from here?
    Kind regards
    Bryan

    Photoshop Scripting-wise this seems fairly "easy".
    But I would recommend creating a template file (that already combines background image, png overlay and the Type Layers).
    Maybe data driven graphics would also be an option …
