Place Holder Formula column in reports doing problem

Hi
I am working on some existing reports where there are many palceholders formula coloumns using no return values and they are blank and giving me errors
can anybody tell me what should i write on that place holder formula columns for the return values
should i write return 0 fro number and return null for char
or any other values from some package or field
please guide me

palceholders formula coloumns Are they placeholder Items or formula items ? As you say they are missing return values i would guess its formula-items.
should i write return 0 fro number and return null for char In general, formual items should return some meaningful value depending on the requirement behind the report, if they do not:
Are they used somewhere in the report ? If not, delete them instead of returning some useless value. If they are used, you're up to the requirement again and have to check whats the sense behind it.

When I try to create a formula column that returns number, I have to choose datatype 'Nu'mero' (with accented u)as this is the only avaiable in the combo box. However when I write this PL/SQL code for the column:

Reports gives me the message:
REP-0737: Deve ser uma funcao com retorno do tipo 'nu'mero'.
In English this message could be
REP-0737: Should be a function with return type 'nu'mero'.
I don't have this problem with Character or Date formula columns (these datatypes are called Caracter and Data in Portuguese).
It seems that Reports is having problems with u' (accented u) character. If I change NLS_LANG to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 everything works fine because I can choose Number in the Formula Column Datatype in the Property Inspector.
The problem is in the function declaration not in the Return statement.
Could anyone help me? Tks.

Formula Column in Report template

I have a report template to use in all the report. I want to have a formula column on it to take a control value(location/Organization) where the report is being printing. Is it possible to have a formula column in a report template? if it possible how can I do it? otherwise how can i achieve this task?

Why is there no place on this website to report a problem to apple?

I don't know that this is the right place to put this but quite frankly I am sick of looking.
I am sure I am not the only person with this problem......I have an Apple product, something doesn't work or doesn't work right but it isn't so cataclismic that it is worth a call to tech support, maybe just an issue any decent company would want to know about to improve the product or in this case the preloaded, cannot be gotten rid of music application......said person (in this case me) goes onto the Apple website and after 20 minutes of looking cannot find anything resembling a "report an problem" area, all there is for me to just politely tell Apple that periodically and completely out of nowhere the music player on my iPhone 5 just shuts off. It doesn't happen all the time and seems to have no precursers of any kind, none I can figure out anyway. Again not so annoying that I am going to badmouth the product because honestly this is the sum total of my complaints with the phone, but I tell you there is nothing more annoying than to be rocking out, blasting some tunes, singing and dancing like a fool and to have the music just shut off. It's like my mother lives in the phone and since she doesn't feel like walking up to my room to tell me to turn my stereo down she walks outside to the fuse box and cuts power to my room. True story by the way and now I am reliving that trauma. Thank you.

Report Does Not Follow Select Column Order

Hi all,
Apex 2.2 on 10gXE
I always encounter this problem, the display column on report does not follow the select column sequence order in the "region source".
It is very tedious clicking the up/down arrow one-by-one in the "report attributes" especially if the display columns are plenty like 40 columns.
Is there a fix/patch or alternative tips for this bug?

This is not a bug. APEX maintains the original column order of the report. This avoids problems downstream in areas like the processing of <tt>g_fnn</tt> arrays in declarative tabular forms, where the assigned arrays are column-order dependent.
APEX 4.x fixes column ordering bugs that could lead to report corruption, and includes drag-and-drop column ordering in the new tree view in addition to the up/down arrow re-ordering.
If you really want column order to follow that in the source query, the workaround is to create a new report using the modified query.

How to add a formula column in a report

I have made a report based on a query.
There are 3 columns in the query and all the 3 are displayed.
Now I want to add a new column (fomula column) to the report.
I want to write a query inside the formula column. To execute the query col1, col2 and col3 values are required in the formula column.
Could you please tell me how to add a formula column in the report and how to pass database column value to inside the formula column

Here is how you would create a formula column:
Open data model of the report.
Formula column button is on the left side of the tool palette.
Click on that button.
Now click in the query group where you want to place the formula column.
You would see a new field something like CF_1. That is the formula column.
Double click on the field CF_1. It will open property inspector.
You would see, Datatype of the formula column is Number. Change this as per your requirement.
Double click on PL/SQL Formula property. It would open up a editor. Here you can write the code.
And now to access the data model column here, you can use : and column name. i.e. :col1 or :col2, etc
And remember you have to return the value back to the formula column. Like this: RETURN(some value).

Not able to burst report referring to Formula Column in XML file.

Hello all,
I am using bursting feature to spit single report to multiple pdfs. All is well when I reference column queried from the database in the xml file but I when I give column from Formula column it is doing coredump.
XML File contents:

The "file_name" referenced in the above is a formula column. If it is replace with a column from the query it works fine. Please let me know if anyone knows if it is a limitation or any workaround?

If I can have that in the query I would have not done a formula column. And I do know that it works if the column is in the query. I would like to know any workaround to make it work from formula column.
I have to take data from sub-group of this query, aggregate it and then concatinate with one of the columns grouped - so i had to use formula column.

Oracle 6i Formula Column

Hi Techies,
I have an Oracle 6i report which has a parameter form. It takes the argument Contract_Num as an input. Based on the value of the Contract_Num, a formula column displays a string.
Now I dont want to use the parameter form. I have simply modifed my report group query. I get all the contract_num in the output but the respective string is not displayed as I dont input any Contract_Num in the parameter form. The Formula Column always returns NULL in the all the pages.
Please advise on how to pass the contract_num to the Formula Column to display the respective string in each page.

Hi Sri,
As you said you have modified your query, you can directly bind the variable in the formula column as
: (your variable).
If your formula is outside your report group. Please place your formula column within that record group and try.

Did you put '.' in the formula at the end of the message? You shouldn't in this kind of statement, so the expression should be:

Formula Columns are not appearing in pdf format

i have a report that contains some formula columns, the report is running correctly in the report builder, but when running the report through the web as .pdf format all report field appear except those formula columns,

Can any one help for me.. how to create placeholder column variable, then how can i assign the variable in formula column to populate.
As report Output Requirement :
I have two columns col1 and col2 . based on report parameter (selection type )
Ex :
1. select 1 means its need to display col1 , hide the col2
2. select 2 means its need to display col2 , hide the col1
3. if they non of selection means need to display both col1 and col2

Problem in Report Formula Column

I recently Transfer my databse 9i to 10g and iam using developer 2.1 release 5 as a front hand.
so problem is that my reports run successfully with oracle 9i but when i change my database to oracle 10g iam facing error in reports formula column. when i use select statement in formula column. i gave u an example about that.

How to implement place holder columns in data template

Hi,
I have a requirement where I have to mimic the functionality of place holder columns in RDF using Data Templates in XML Publisher.
How can I call a pl/sql function at element level when we try to group records in the data template.
To make it simple , let us say I have a requirement to retrieve the address of an employee(address line 1,address line 2, city,country)
In RDF what I do is define 4 place holder columns to capture address attributes, and in a formula column I set values to these attributes. How do I implement this in XML Publisher data template.
When I tried to implement the above requirement using test variables, I was able to execute a pl/sql function after the group tag, but not within the group tag.
I got the result for calc_values3 , but didn;t get anythng for calc_values1 and 2

For this, you need to have a master query and child query.
1) In your master query you will have to identify one unique column and call a pl/sql pkg function which calculates all values for your place holder columns and inserts rows into a pl/sql table with the index as your unique column
ex: Master query returns
empnum name amount
1 scott 250
2 bob 350
and your calculated value is 10 percent of the amount
your pl/sql pkg should insert records into the pl/sql table like r(1):= 250*0.1 = 25 r(2):= 350*0.1 = 35
2) The child query will get executed for each row of you rmaster query, so you should be able to read the values based on which master records row it is executing for
Please bear in mind that you have to make sure that the report is not executed by two different people at the same time, else you have to consider session or any other unique identifier in addition to your master records unique identifier.

Place Holder values are not displaying when calling the report

I have a Place holder column in my report and i am assigning the values in a formula column. When i run the report from report builder place holder column is showing the value. But when i deploy the same in application server and i try to invoke from a form it is not the value of that place holder column. Why is this happening? Please, help me in resolving the same.
