Placing a "link" video in to my site

Hi everyone,
I am sorry to ask what may be a noobish question, but after
trying for hours to find my answer; I thought I could turn to you.
I am merely trying to "embed" a video in to my website that I came
across on 1UP. They gave me the HTML code to put in to my website,
but I can't figure out what to do to place it on my site. I have
tried placing a form field in, etc...but nothing is working for me.

Ok Noob... make a table, div or other container... start with
a table. Type
in some text. Highlight the text, then switch to code view.
Replace the
highlighted text with ALL of the code you listed. Save the
page. Put it
(Upload it) to your site.
Test it.

I don't believe the video file itself can contain a link. It's usually the player that handles that type of functionality.

So it sounds like you're trying to stream a video stored on a server, correct?
Here's the way the URL must be written:
"The URL must point to a file that ends in the appropriate file extension; for example, http://www.fakeURL.com/videos/Intro_Video.f4v for a file on a web server. Use rtmp:// in the URL for a video on the Flash Media Server or Flash Streaming Service."

QuickTime fails to work with videos on Apple's site

QuickTime refuses to run videos on Apple's web site. Clicking on the video link, QuickTime is opened, but the usual logo is overwritten with a big question mark & the video refuses to run. I am running QuickTime 7.5.5 on a MacBook Pro 15" 2.4 GH, OS !0.5.4, but the same thing happened with the previous version of QuickTime on the same machine & version of 10.5. Ironically, videos on all other sites run perfectly, but not Apple's.
Has anyone else run into this problem? And found a solution? I'd be grateful for your help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your suggestion, groovyds, but it didn't help. I can be a bit more specific now. It doesn't do it with the Mac ads (I am a Mac & I am a PC), but just with the tips & tutorial videos. The problem began on OS 10.5.4, but has continued on 10.5.5. If it is only doing it on Apple's site and only with the tips & tutorials videos, then that should suggest that something in those videos won't work with the combination of QuickTime + MacBook Pro 15", 2.4 GHZ + OS 10.5.4 & 10.5.5 (and who knows how far backwards in OS 10.5 versions or forwards in future versions for that matter). Again my thanks.

Can I link video into my existing audio podcast stream?

I am a podcast producer for a non-profit and have just started doing videos too. How do I link video-casts into my show's existing podcast stream? I would appreciate help.

My original answer assumed you wanted to use streaming video, but probably I misread what you intended: the term 'stream' doesn't apply to a podcast. You can add video episodes to your podcast feed - there's no problem about some episodes being audio and some video.
Your video file must be .m4v, .mov or .mp4, not .wmv or .swf (Flash). You place them on an ordinary web server, just as you would with a web page, and link to them in the feed, which can be placed on the same server.
You should check that your server is configured to serve these video files - most are: enter the URL in Safari and the files should play in the browser window (you can also use FireFox but you will probably have to wait for the entire file to download before you can play it). If the browser downloads the file, or offers to, the server is not correctly configured and you need to talk to the people running it.

Providing a PS link to an internal Careers Site

Our functional staff has requested that the HCM navigational links to Career (“Root > Careers” and “Root >Self Service >Recruiting Activities > Careers”) access the Internal link created in the Careers Site Setup. This url is similar to the following:

When I access the URL I get a "You are not authorized to access this component" message. (I do have security)
Is it possible to create a PeopleSoft content reference that points to the Careers Site Internal URL and if so, how is it done?
Our Content reference is set up as Non-PeopleSoft URL but I have also tried PeopleSoft Generic URL and Worklist URL with the link defined above. Each URL type had a different error message and none were successful.
Environment: HCM 9.1 HR #9, Tax 12-B, PT 8.51.15

I believe that I just solved this question. I changed the link back to a PeopleSoft Component adding the Career's component parameters for Menu, Market, and Component. Then, in order to link to a specific page I added query string parameters to the Additional Parameters field. In my case I added "Page=HRS_CE_HM_PRE&Action=A&SiteId=1400". This allows me to link to the specific page and the security is carried forward. I'm still testing but so far this appears to be a working resolution.

Embeding Youtube video in a mobile site.

I can embed Youtube video in my normal site without problem. But the same video will not appear on my mobile site.
Is there anything special that needs to be done to make the video work?

Turns out it was down to using the old or new embed code from youtube.
There were also problems with Muse crashing once I embeded the correct code. I fixed using this:

IWeb hypertext links to pages from my site not "viewable" in some browsers

I am new to iWeb 08. iWeb created hypertext links to eleven pages from my "top level" site are not "clickable" or viewable in some browsers yet the hyperlinks I added on top page to other sites don't present a problem.
No problem with Safari or AOL Desktop Version 1.2 or Firefox browsers. However, AOL Ver 10.3.7 (rev 4136.310) only shows other site links and NOT the page links at the top of site page. Only a dot is visible where links to other pages in the site. I thought it could have been a Java Scripts problem so I updated my AOL to latest JAVA. Not concerned for my part but others with Mac AOL may have same problem.
Is there something I could do diferent at my site or is this another AOL shortcoming?

No solution yet. I am sure it is a shortcoming of AOL's Mac browser but am trying to contact AOL support (difficult now that they are free). I don't use their browser but there are probably those that do. I presume you don't have that problem when you use Safari, etc?

Adding videos to a BC site via a web app

I saw a MaxTempo template that people can use for their Business Catalyst site (http://www.tribevita.com/adobe-business-catalyst-templates/e-commerce/max-tempo-ecom) that consists of a web app that allows the adding and displaying of videos. I saw a video that illustrates how to do this, but not in detail. I would like to know how to add and display videos to a BC site by using a web app. Please help. Thanks.

To do this, you will need a fundamental understanding of how web apps work and function. Once you understand how they work, then you
can visualize the fields you will need to do this. You can also allow users to upload videos as well. YOu need to define the way you want it to work.
I would assume to create a video web app, you need to set your fields, for small thumbnail, large thumbnail, video player [text description large]
If you are embedding youtube videos then you can just copy paste the embed code into the video player field you define. If you have a custom player then it gets a bit tricky but not that complicated to do.

Can't play videos on some web sites.

Since the last update for Safari I been unable to play videos in some web sites.I checked Safari preferences, under extensions and than list is empty, so I don't have anything that needs updating. Also cleaned cookies, resetted safari, emptied cache and sitll, can't play the videos. No software updates are available and i havent removed anything from my computer (flash player or any other player).
Any idea how to solve this problem? Is it because the new OS Lion, thant Safari changed settings?

Firefox only can't play videos from Hamster web site

Firefox plays videos from every other site but Hamster. IE and Chrome have no problems playing videos from this site

Make sure your OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
Or, open System Preferences > App Store > Check Now
If your Mac is up to date, most news websites require Flash.
Back to System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click: Check Now
