Playback of divx/xvid

i have a number of avi files compressed via divx and xvid codec. i tried each to playback each file in jmstudio. the majority of them failed so i assumed java did not have support for playback of such content. however i finally came across 1 xvid file that did playback successfully.
so whats the deal peeps??? why does it playback this 1 file but none of others!!!

I have set the classpath to
C:\Program Files\JMF2.1.1e\lib\MPEG4VideoDecoderEval
but when i write import
com.ibm.media.codec.video.mpg4.JavaDecoder; in my code
i get the message package
com.ibm.media.codec.video.mpg4 does not exist???You should add the extension to the classpath, that is, the classpath should point to C:\Program Files\JMF2.1.1e\lib\MPEG4VideoDecoderEval.zip.

  • How can I import and edit Divx/Xvid codec .avi files?

Recently I changed of computer, I had Premiere CS3 in Windows and now I have CS4 in Mac. The problem is that in windows I could edit divx and xvid files, but now, when I try to import any divx/xvid file premiere has an error saying "UNSOPPORTED  COMPRESSION IN FILE".
I have installed divx and xvid codecs on the Mac and I can watch those videos too, but Premiere doesn't accept them.
    Any idea? Thanks

    Mike,
You might want to take a look at the file closely, and then decide if you wish to edit it. Know, that if you go to DVD, or any compressed format/CODEC, after the edit, there will be another quality hit.
There are CODEC's that are basically used to play a file, and then those that play, plus allow editing. DivX and Xvid, are in the former group. There could be some editors that will edit DivX, but I do not know of them. PrPro cannot effectively use the DivX CODEC to edit. Some have gotten very lucky, once the CODEC is installed, but usually one looses either the Video, or the Audio. In the cases, where it worked, OOS issues were almost always present.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Extended video codec support on iPhone (DivX, XviD, etc)

When will the Apple add support for more widely used video codecs? E.g.
    DivX
    XviD
    WMV
I know, I know H264 is a pretty darn good codec, but I do have quite a few flics in DivX and other formats and I don't wanna hassle with converting them.
The lack of video and audio (flac, ogg, wma) codec support is really a turn down!!

Divx and wmv are proprietary codecs.
Apple supports and uses open industry standards-such as
    mpeg4/h.264.

  • Trying to create Divx/Xvid MPEG-4

Have created a little video promoting our charity in Premiere Pro CS3 and am trying to get it onto a Digial Photo Frame to play when we do displays.
My problem is getting the video into a file format the DPF will accept. The rather limited instructions say it supports
"AVI (M-JPEG/MPEG-4/DIVX/XVID/), MPEG-1@VGA" and later it says
    "DivX/Xvid MPEG-4 @640x480/2000kbps"
Am very much a beginner and have tried various export settings but the DPF doesn't recognise any of them. To be honest I'm rather faffing in the dark as I don't really know what the above means.
Would be very grateful to be pointed in the right direction.
    Many thanks
    (XP Pro windows)

    Thanks Ann.
For anyone else reading this, instructions how to use divx in premiere are at http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/codec/guides/premiere.php
Still doesn't actually work on my digital picture frame, but having got this far I've gone back to the suppliers to see if they can help.

  • How to COMPRESS to MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format for MAXIMUM YOUTUBE quality?

I'm sick of slaving away here on fcp to then upload stuff to Youtube and have it look like ***.
YouTube suggests uploading as MEG4 (Divx,Xvid) format.
Is there a simple setting for that format within Compressor 2? What about QT player (I don't have pro, only QT v7.2)
    Any thoughts?

The consistently best looking stuff I've uploaded to YouTube has been from Compressor preset H.264 LAN.
I had tried the compress-to-flv route and that worked great, but then YouTube changed its format, so it was back to H.264 LAN...

  • IMovie to MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid)

What is the best way to convert iMovie to MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format??
To answer this question helps if you are familiar with YouTube. I have uploaded to youtube all sort of formats form Quicktime but the video is compressed by youtube and therefore the quality deteriorates. Youtube suggests to "specifically" the files extensions I am mentioning. The following is from their website:
We [Youtube] specifically recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format.
    Any help?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    the QTengine includes a mpeg4 en-/decoder...
but for the specifications of the the mentioned formats, you have to buy plug-ins at
    www.3vix.com or www.divx.com plug-ins.
or, you use an open source encoder plug-in, as the Xvid Codec
or, you use 3rd party encoders as ffmpeg
there are more tools claiming to generate Xvid codecs, as Mencoder, D_Vision, etc, but no hands-on experiences here...
    helpful?

  • DDTS-100 and Divx/Xvid files

Does the DDTS-100 have problems with DivX/Xvid files that are encoded with AC3?
Power DVD will pick up a true DD signal for a DVD, but if i convert to avi (divx) with the ac3 sound, it only uses Pro Logic II/Neo6. There isn't even the option in Power DVD to use spdif when playing an ac3 divx file.
Who here has the DDTS-100 and can play AC3 divx files fine with TRUE DOLBY DIGITAL?
    Cheers.

Well this went down like a lead balloon.
If anyone else finds this, a solution is to convert the divx file to dvd vob files. The DDTS-100 will pick up the true digital signal if they are vob files, converted from divx with AC3 sound.
I use 'VSO divxtodvd', you can google a link.

  • New Creative Zen - DivX / XviD resoluti

    Hey all,
I was just wondering what resolutions of divx / xvid are supported by the new creative Zen. I've got my eye on the 6gb model which looks absolutely ideal, however a key point for me is that i really do not want to be transcoing the movies i have on my computer due to the time and additional storage space which all this would require.
I know the zen vision m / w both handle reasonably high resolutions, up to VGA ish (640x480) on the same size screen (320x240 i think), but is this going to be the same for the new Zen?
    Thanks for any information,
    CJ

i believe the codecs specs is the same as zen vision m.

  • Quicktime divx/xvid Component

I recently purchased QT7 Pro for Windows so I could encode in H.264 faster due to it taking quite long on my 1.33 G4. However, after I bought it I found I could not view divx/xvid encoded files. I thought no problem, I'll just do what I did on the Powerbook and download the component. Yet, I went searching for one and I could not find one. I am disappointed because many of my files are encoded in this and I want to re encode them so I can stream them using DSS. Is there anyway to view divx/xvid files in QT7 Pro on Windows? Could I install the divx/xvid codecs and copy over some DLL's or some other file for decoding purposes? Thanks for any help.

Why has Apple done absolutely nothing to correct the Safari crashing/hanging problem? I have always loved my Mac computers. We have 3 in my home now, but if they continue to do nothing to resolve this problem, I may jump ship. If they are release something so lousy, they might as well work for Dell instead of ruining Apple's good name.
I--we shouldn't have to keep deleting files and such weeks after they release such shoddy software. Their is a reason we mac addicts pay more for Mac products. We think they are superior to other computers, but they are going to quickly go the way of the U.S car makers if this continues.
I'm sure this will be deleted immediately. Shouldn't they be focusing on correcting the software problems, rather than silencing those who complain, and having the buyer of their product putting bandaids on their browser?

  • DivX / XviD files on C7

Hi All, I don't know how to play DivX and XviD formats on my C7.
Is that generic I mean my C7 doesn't support these formats. Is there any particular software that I have to install?
    Looking forward to hear.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Azii Ahmad
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I don't think C7 supports DivX, but you may able to play DivX files by using 3rd party app.
    Glad to help

  • DivX, XviD codecs

    Hey all!
Recently I've installed DivX and XviD codecs, but they  don't appear on the list when I try to export the composition. Any  ideas, suggestions?
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    AE CS5

Open up the Adobe Media Encoder and add your AE project. Dynamic link will open up and then you'll be able to see the compositions inside your project. Pick the one you want to render. Now drill down through the options and find the codecs you want to use.
If the codecs don't show up then you'll have to render your project to another codec then use a 3rd party application to do the rendering.

  • Divx / Xvid for Quicktime?

Any updates on Divx or xvid for Quicktime? Universal of course (for MacBook/intel mac).
Seperate from Quicktime, I see Divx6 was released, but that costs $ and I am not clear if it is Universal.
Of course I will do my own research, but I just thought I would throw out this post real quick to see if anybody has kept up to date.
    thanks

Instead of waiting for the elusive Flip4Mac UB components (which have not even reached private beta testing yet), why not try this:
Download the free Popwire WMV9 import/export components and rock out playing WMV files natively in Quicktime on your MBP. Works like a champ.
    Now buy me a beer.
    Here's the link:
    http://www.popwire.com/downloadtrial.php?productsid=7
Now that's two bottles of beer.
FYI: The trial is for the "groovy add-on's," so just download the package and let those expire; the components you need for native QT playability are free and don't expire.
    That's three.

  • Windows 7 & CS4 Encoding Problem: DivX / Xvid / Lagarith

I'm having a lot of problems exporting a custom video file (1024x768) on CS4 and Win 7 64 Ultimate.
    I installed:
Xvid 1.1.3 = Does nothing, gives error when trying to execute.
Xvid - Nic's build = Various codecs, XVid crashes CS4, ffshow crashes CS4, DivX creates 10 Gig files that cannot be
    used.
Lagarith Lossless Video Codec cannot be installed.
Uncompressed creates a 15 Gig file that cannot be used.
Encoding takes 3+ hours on a 5 Gig AMD X2.
The video clip is only 5 minutes long, how can I solve this export problem?

The readme file of lagarith says:
Installing the 32bit version on Windows 64
Extract all the files to a folder
Open up a command prompt (start->run: cmd)
Change directories to sysWOW64 ("cd C:\windows\syswow64")
Type the following (replace example_path with the actual path to the extracted files), then hit enter:
    rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\Legarith\lagarith.inf
This method can also be used for installing other 32bit codecs such as Huffyuv that install via a .inf file.
    What I did:
Extracted the files: there is a dll file and some other txt files.
Copied all the files to: c:\Legarith\
Copied these files to the C:\windows\syswow64 directory.
Open CMD and go to C:\windows\syswow64 directory
    Execute:
    rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\Legarith\lagarith.inf
    A popup pops up (LOL)
    Error
    Installation failed.
    (OK)
Ok, any adea of how to actually

  • Is there divx/xvid support yet?

Hey guys, just curious, does the appletv have the support above mentioned yet? Or any dvd rip playback? These are the only reasons why I didn't buy one.
    Thanks
    Mo

    Hi,
No - all video has to be encoded in mp4 format - there are plenty of Programs out there that will re-encode divx, and rip dvd's to that format - try a Google seach

  • Can VOB files DiVX / Xvid run on FCP

    Hi,
I am totally unaware of FCP. I want to ask that can FCP accept VOB and Xvid/DivX files for direct editing and direct export ?
    Thanks

No. You'd have to transcode them to a format which is supported. All common acquisition formats are supported (i.e, DV, HDV, DVCPROHD, etc..) but delivery formats are not directly supported by any pro editing software I know of.
