Player doesnt work?

How do I open flash (swf) files that are on my desktop if the Flash Player doesnt appear in my list of programs?
I have read parts of several forums and have solved some problems but not all. I have Win XP and IE 8. After reading other forums, I unistalled then re-installed the Player and was able to see the video (and written message) confirming i had a sucessfull install the other day. I seen that the Player shows up in my Control Panel (ActX 11.3.300.271). So everything seems to be fine.
The problem is that presentations that others have created on a seperate computer using Adobe Captivate cant be viewed on my machine with the Player. The files run perfectly on machine(s) with the regular Flash program but not my Flash Player.  The files dont even have the familiar red 'f' icon when i save them to the desktop, they appear as an unrecognized format. I double click on the file and it ask me which program to use, but the Player is not an option even though it was installed. Others with Win7/IE9 said they have the same problem.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Flash Player is typically distributed as a browser plugin.  In this scenario, a web page would load a swf and the Flash plugin would display it.  For local files, please use the Flash Player projector:

  • Flash player doesnt work on safari, even with the last version 11.6

    hello,
Since yesterday, my flash player doesnt work on safari (OS X10.8.2). I tried to update flash with the last version (11.6) from adobe website, but i still have the same probleme.  Can you please help me ?
    Thank you

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • Flash player doesnt work for IE (64 bit) - for me anyway

ive got windows 7 (64bit) and in a recent up date i believe internet explorer (64bit) downloaded, it works fine except flash player doesnt at all, no updates i download make it work either
but then i switched back to using the normal IE and everything works fine
how do i solve this problem?
this may be a problem being experienced by others - i hope

Hi, well since Adobe Flash Player doesn't support the 64bit, you need to use the 32bit browser. This is the default on Win7/IE8 systems. Go up to Help, About Internet Explorer and if you see x86, you are using the 32bit.
Also you need to use the 32bit browser when Installing Flash Player and to view Flash.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Flash Player doesnt work

something happened and now Safari and Firefox wont allow adobe flash player to show slide shows - all i get is a black screen - no indication of any errors; I uninstalled Safari and Flash player and reinstalled them to no avail. I think it may be related to something that happened to my system preferences - the accounts, log in items had for some reason changed to just three items: growl helper app; growl menu; and logitech control center. I didnt change these; on my laptop - which still works and allows flash player to work - there are these additional login items microsoft au daemon, expander daemon; itunes helper - when I search my desktop of the daemon files nothing shows up. Please help. (I also cant play videos in my browsers)

this is the javascript web inspector report I get when I try to run the slide show in flickr ( which doesnt work - just produces a black screen)

  • Flash player doesnt work with firefox no matter what i try to do.Have windows xp.It does work if i use to internet explorer.Dont know what else to do.Need help

Cant get Flashplayer to work with firefox

There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash player; one for IE (ActiveX) and one for most other browsers including Firefox (Plugin). You do not appear to have Flash installed for Firefox (Plugin) on the system used to report your question (click "More system details" to the right of your original question, "Shockwave Flash" is not listed). You can check in your Firefox Add-ons > Plugins to see if "Shockwave Flash" is listed but disabled. When updating Flash on a Windows system with IE installed, you should always update both.
Download (for your OS and browsers), save, close all browsers, run the installers that you just downloaded from the following page:

  • I CANT INSTALL flash player 10!  myspace player doesnt work but youtube does. PLEASE HELP ME

I can’t listen to music on Myspace anymore!
it says I need the new version of flash player for it. So I go to adobe website try to install the Flash player 10.0.022.87 but nothing happens, actually the box asking me if I want to install appears, but after that nothing happens.
The weird thing is that I can perfectly watch videos on YouTube and play flash games as well. I know Myspace isn’t the problem because everybody I have talked says that the Myspace player works just fine.
I hope you can help me. Thank you
Ps: I use Internet Explorer 8 and Windows xp

It doesn’t work. I have tried to uninstall it but it gets stuck in the middle of the process. FP cant be uninstalled.
    It says "extracting: FlashUtil.exe
I don’t know what to do.
and yeah I have already checked on
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
I see the animation but myspace player still not working. I’m confused

  • Ipad2 video player doesnt work, already tried restarting and resetting

When I go to my standard video app in my ipad, it comes out black and nothing happens. I have already restarted and reset. Software up to date. I cannot plug into my computer right now.

See if the video app will start this way.
Go to your first home screen and swipe to the right to bring up the search feature. Type in the name of one of your movies or TV shows. When it appears in the search - tap on it - and it should start playing. Let it play for a minute or two and then hit Done. Now go the videos app and see if it works.
If you need a video to try this with - download a free video podcast and use that for the "test" movie.

  • Flash Player not working on Windows 8.1, IE 11

Continued problems with web pages on Windows 8.1
Always saying "Thie webpage wants to run the following add-on: 'Adobe Flash Player' from 'Microsoft Windows Third Party Application...."
no matter what i pick, Allow, Allow always all ways keeps asking..
    Yes the Plugin is Enabled.
Obviously if i turn off Active X filtering the message goes away, but doesnt help, as websites which require the flash player doesnt work...
Ive manually tried uninstalling the flash player, by using the uninstall tool and deleting the files, but this just broke it more... so had to system restore it...
Restored it back to a time before the issue, same thing !!
    Using this link > http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html
and selecting Test Flash Player, gives me an icon to get flash player, it click the icon, then loops back to same page...
Please dont tell me the solution is the Use Chrome or Use Firefox. As this isnt a solution.
    I would like a fix for IE11
    Anyone??
can someone tell me how to actually contact Adobe about this issue...
Thanks in advance, to anyone who gives some useful input to this.

    1. Continuing to use IE11 will continue your problems and your frustration. I won't tell you to use Chrome or Firefox, but THAT'S what will take care of this for you.  What you see  is a result of this:
    "User-Agent Strings"
That doesn't mean a lot, I'm sure, but it's the root of your problems, and Flash Player has nothing to do with it.
Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser (Read more here).
User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video.
Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome).
Trouble is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11.
YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play.
Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess they've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of the websites you visit.
They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE...
The Problem with THAT is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I WON'T recommend actually using another browser.... but here they are.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that, because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
    2. If you'd like a fix for IE... You'll need to go to Microsoft for it, but as I already stated, they have NO INTENTION of fixing the abominable mess they made because they think it's a great idea.
    3. Contacting Adobe about Microsoft's garbage browser (and it IS garbage) won't do any good, because Adobe doesn't make IE11 and THAT'S wherein the problem lies.

  • HELP toolbar player wont work after upgrading to itunes 11

after upgrading to new 11.0.0.163 my minimized player doesnt work, everything is grayed out....yes its set to be active in my toolbar, no i do not mean the mini player on the main screen...
    this version *****...
and as other people mentioned, it didnt upgrade a very good portion of my music library.

I'm wondering if the reason is that there are simply so many match requests that Apple's network is not able to readily meet the demand. One reason I believe this may be the case is that I've never subscribed to iTunes Match, yet when i upgraded to 11, I also observed the "Sending Information To Apple" message for what seemed to me to be a long time. Having never subscribed to iTunes Match, I clicked the "X" to stop the process, and now I'm left with lots of songs that have been assigned the iCloud "Waiting" status, which I can't find a way to change without taking the initial action of subscribing to iTunes Match. So the question I will probably post as a new discussion might be something like, "Is there a way to resume a canceled automatic match process to resolve the "Waiting" iCloud status designation after an iTunes 11 upgrade without subscribing to iTunes Match?"
To summarize, I think it's likely that demand for matching is too great to be handled quickly through available network server resources, and that's at least partly due to the fact that every connected user with an iTunes library is undergoing the match process upon upgrading to iTunes 11, not only those for which an iTunes Match subscription was already active.

  • Since I updated to firefox 5.0, the windows media player plug in for firefox doesnt work anymore :(

Ok I recently upgraded to firefox 5.0, and then when I went to a website that uses windows media player to watch videos and news reports, it said I needed to download the windows media player plug in for firefox. And yet I had already done that in the past. So it directs me to the plug in for windows media player 11, I download and install and it doesnt work. Website repeats the same message, you need to download plug in. It was working fine with firefox 4.0! I use the OS Windows 7, 64bit. Any help please?

Yes I did, at first it identified it as already there, so it gave the option of repairing it, etc, so I uninstalled the Windows Media Player, then Installed it again, and it still doesn't seem to work! I have the same problem with several other plug ins, in the add ons and plug in section of Mozilla tools, I see that say, "incompatible with firefox 5.0" but as days go by those add-ons, that are built by those other websites seem to be repairing it, but I wanted to know for something as important as windows media player plug in, am I the only one getting this problem? :/

  • Flash player saying installed but doesnt work

i have a toshiba laptop with internet explorer 6 and its an
    xp machine
basically some websites that need flash redirect me to the
adobe flash player site and i click install and it installs.
then an animation plays when its successfully installed
but then when i go back to the website that requires
    flash...flash doesnt work!
im going crazzy now cos no-one knows what to do.
    any suggestions. any???? xx

Well, first of all you might want to get IE7. Just go to
filehippo.com. In any case, go to start>control
panel>internet options. Go to the security tab and set the
internet zone to default>apply. Then go to the privacy tab and
click on sites. Make sure the website is allowed to set cookies.
Then set the cookie slider to medium or medium-high. This internet
options screen is different for IE6 and IE7, so your buttons may
vary slightly from mine since I have IE7. Really, IE7 is better in
my opinion and your favorites will carry over.

  • Why will adobe flash player not work on my mac?

Hi, I just got my mac back from the apple store and sadly I lost all my data so its a 'new mac' and i had to set it up from scratch etc.
I am unable to watch videos on youtube and other sites that need Java or Adobe flash player EVEN THOUGH I have downloaded and uninstalled several times and each time it doesnt work. Ive checked in safari prefferences that 'enable java-script' and 'enable plug-ins' is on but it still will not work!
Ive been on system prefferences and checked the java and adobe application prefferences to see if i can add the websites oor something but it will not work.
my mac is deffinetly up to date to the latest version, i have checked several times and i have made sure that it is the correct adobe flash player most recently updated etc, but it will still not work! ive been researching for a couple of days now and cant find anything that works.

Yutube, twitter, facebook doesnt work on my mac (10.4.11).
I checked my mac with other networks, it worked.
I complained to my network provider, but to my surprise, these sites
works on other systems (HP/DEL etc) on my network but
it doesnt open on my Mac pro.
I wonder what the reason could be.

I'm running v10.4.11 on an older Mac laptop with Safari 4.1.3 installed and no problems accessing those sites. Click your Apple menu / Software Update just in case there's an update available.
Check Safari / Preferences - Security. Make sure Java is enabled.
Cookies could also be a culprit. Back to Safari / Preferences - Security. Click: Show Cookies.
Delete the YouTube, Twitter, and FB cookies. Quit then relaunch Safari.
If it's not cookies, try uninstalling then reinstalling the Flash plugin which is required for all three sites.

  • QT v. 7.6.6 doesnt work

QT v. 7.6.6 doesnt work, which means iTunes doesn't work either, or any sounds for that matter. This is a recent thing, and no idea why.
Running MacOS 10.6.8. Have reinstalled QT 7.6.6 several times (from DVD, and from download), no luck.
Everything I've read so far indicates that QT 7.6.6 should work alongside QT X happily, but it just doesn't. Trying to open QT 7.6.6 just gets me the "quit unexpectedly" message. Opening iTunes gets me a 200 error. QT X seems to run OK.
Can anyone offer any help please?

Everything I've read so far indicates that QT 7.6.6 should work alongside QT X happily, but it just doesn't. Trying to open QT 7.6.6 just gets me the "quit unexpectedly" message. Opening iTunes gets me a 200 error. QT X seems to run OK.
If you have corrupted the embedded framework structure, the only way to fix it is to re-install the entire operating system and upgrade it if necessary. When installed and operating properly, the independent QT X and QT 7.6.6 Player (as well as GarageBand and iTunes) apps should all be able to access routines in the embedded QT structure as needed depening on the 32-/64-bit nature of the calling application's needs assuming the apps and embedded structure are properly version matched.
Can anyone offer any help please?
Since you have not indicated the specific nature of the files you are trying to play, it is difficult to determing if your files are corrupted, the codecs invoved are not supported on your system, if the operating system/application software is mismatched, or your operating system is corrupted.
