Playhead moves jumpy in win7/vista (even in empty comp)

hello,
after switching from winXP 32bit to win7 32/64 (and vista), im having this problem with both AE cs4 and cs5:
when i start playback or do a ram preview even in an empty comp, the playhead/cti/current time indicator red line is moving in a jerky way. The Info
panel is showing that its being played in realtime and when i add footage, the video is being played smoothly as well, yet the playhead jumps.

What i tried:
- AE cs5 in win7 ult 64bit
- AE cs4 32bit in win7 ult 64bit
- AE cs4 32bit in win7 ult 32bit
- AE cs5 in vista basic 64bit on different pc (laptop with completely different hw and drivers)
- AE cs4 32bit in vista ult 32bit on different pc
- those OS instalations were clean literally with just AE installed, i then tried installing drivers, qt, windows updates but still the same
- tried changing all AE settings i could find, as well as leaving default settings after clean install
- watched everest stats during the simple comp playback, plenty of free cpu/mem resources
my hw: [email protected], p5e64ws evo, 4gig, hd4870 512
Having tried on different pc, it should not be hardware/driver related, also not OS related within vista/win7 versions and not AE version related. So the problem should be between xp and w7/vista, something is different or missing between those.
This is my first time using OS newer than XP so maybe im either missing something which i didnt need to install on xp and should have now or is this the way how ae is supposed to behave on vista/win7? Does the playhead move supersmooth for you pixel by pixel when the visual playback is realtime/cached in w7/vista?

Yes everything else works fine. Im doing alot of intensive audio syncing and altho i make great use of all the various other tools for that during the finalization stages, the ability to simply watch the cti during previews definitely helps me to get general feel and ideas for positioning and rough ins without spamming markers or deciphering scrub sounds too early, i can also quickly position main keyframes during just audio previews without waiting for full video preview in heavier comps. Its small things that add up and it generally speeds my current routine up in various situations. Iam doing alot of precise sync editing in NLEs too, and its even more about the cti there so i guess i might be just too used to it and now it feels wrong when it suddenly doesnt move smooth in AE after i switched os.
I would at least like to know whether its "officially" supposed to move smooth in vista/win7 just so i dont spend all this time investigating the problem only to find out that its actually jumping like this for everyone and they just dont care. Because ive tried close to everything by now and still cant find the cause.

As long as you have a Superdrive or an external burner/drive, burning, watching, installing, etc. from CD or DVD will work just fine. And so will sharing.

Need 64 bit test for Win7/Vista

I develop application which is required to be 64 bit and it hosts IWebBrowser - so is also 64 bit.
when I load html page to this control which contains flash, of cause I get problems, as there is no flash 64 bit activex.
There is, however one solution I could see to- use test version of Flash. For linux it exists ( and for about a year already ).
The question is. If there would be not a release, but a test version of Flash 64 bit for Win7/Vista in near future?
And if yes - what are estimation for time frames?

The Satellite P300 seems to be a new series at the moment therefore I think that this could be the reason why you cannot find the 64bit drivers on the Toshiba page
But dont worry buddy Im sure that Toshiba will release the 64bit driver in the next time I remember well that the 64bit drivers for the other series were released a little bit later too.
Just for note;
Some series were equiupped with the same hardware devices. SO maybe you could check some single drivers from different notebook series

Go to Settings>General>Usage. How much space does it show you have?
If you connect your phone to your computer, what does iTunes say is on your phone? Do you see a large amount of "Other"? If so, you may have a corrupted database. You'll need to sync your phone then restore it as NEW (not from back up) then re-sync your data).

Having a tough time with Prelude and Playhead movement.

I'm having a tough time grasping how navigation in the Prelude Timeline works, and will try to keep my questions short and separate, rather than a long list.
1) I've added markers to a clip. When clicking-on/selecting a marker that I've added, it appears in the HUD, but the Playhead automatically moves to where I click. That may place it anywhere between the In and Out points for that marker, when what I might want to happen is to select/highlight a marker, then move the Playhead to the Out point, (perhaps in order to move the Out point a few frames). There must be something about the Playhead behavior that I'm missing.
2) How can one Play only the part of a clip that has markers? Example: I have multiple markers, but I want to Play only the footage between the In point of Sub Clip 1 and the Out point of Sub Clip 1.
Is there a way to do that?
The difficulty in doing this seems to be compounded by the situation described in Question 1 above, i.e. when I select/highlight a Sub Clip, the Playhead moves to where I click.
I've tried various key combinations in the Timeline and the Marker Inspector, but no joy.
Is there a way to select and Play only a Sub Clip from its' In point to its' Out point?
Using Production Studio Premium CS6 on Windows 7 Pro, and Prelude Help>Check for Updates tells me everything is current.

Clicking on either the In/Out point to drag either one, they move as shown in your example.
I don't know how to record video from my screen to show the behavior, but when I do what you do in the first 2 seconds of your video, i.e. click in the middle of the colored marker bar, the CTI moves to where I click,
I notice that you already have a marker highlighted, then you click from an area without markers to the center of the first marker, then the center of the 2nd marker, then the center of the 3rd marker, all without the CTI moving.
When I do those same steps, the CTI moves to where I click. It appears you're using only Comment Markers. (I can't read the Marker text to know for sure). However, I''ve also tried it with Sub Clip markers, and a combination of Comment and Sub Clip markers, and the CTI still moves to where I click.
I've looked in Edit/Preferences, but nothing there seems associated to the behavior I'm experiencing.
Is there some other setting I'm overlooking? Maybe something "connected" to how the HUD affect CTI movement?

Clicking everywhere on the timeline the playhead moves

I find annoying that every time I click on the timeline I get the playhead moving....
I know that I can prevent it by pressing Option, but I think it would be much intuitive the inverse behaviour (simple click everywhere: the playhead doesn't move, option click: the playhead moves....), also considering that clicking on the timecode space above the timeline you can move the playhead anyway....

Man, I was sitting here trying to MAKE it happen on my system and couldn't.
Though maybe playhead sync... nope
Something up with your external monitoring?
I'd shut everything down and unplug for 10 minutes... that should clear some handshake cruff you might have built up too. I've got some more drastic measures should this come back... but let's hope not.

Can i load windows vista even if boot camp only supports windows 7?

Can i still load windows vista, even if boot camp now only seems now to support windows 7? I had loaded it previously same mac same windows vista but took it off becuase of a hardware issue. now when i want to use it again (playing games mostly) i can load vista but all sotes of things are not working internet connection and graphics and the driver disk that is made through bootcamp says noy that in order to use it i need to be running windows 7 .
Can anyone help

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
On OS X Mountain Lion, Boot Camp only supports Windows 7, so you can't install Windows Vista or XP, and if you install Windows Vista or XP, you won't be able to install Boot Camp drivers because they aren't supported under XP and Vista.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X DVD (or the Snow Leopard DVD) that came with the computer and install Boot Camp drivers. If your Mac didn't come with DVDs, you can't get Boot Camp drivers for Vista

After I update my website, why doesn't Safari reflect this-even after emptying cache? (Chrome does). Any help would be great. I am a web developer and need to reload the page constantly to see changes, I can't have it be that safari takes a day to refelct changes-it used to happen instantly, what has changed?

It probably says more about MySpace than Safari but anyway you could try the latest nightly build of Safari's Webkit web browser engine. I always use this now and find it offers greater all round performance.

In case you don't know, you just run the webkit application instead of Safari but in use it will seem no different than Safari because all you're doing is running an updated version of the rendering engine in Safari. Safari 3.1 remains untouched and you can switch back to that if you wish.

Quicktime for Windows -- on Vista -- opens a .mov movie once, then won't open the move and Quicktime won't even open itself. I've installed the latest version, and upgraded it to Plus as well.

I am having trouble opening .mov videos with Quicktime on my PC with Vista. I installed the latest version of Quicktime for Windows (V.7.7), and upgraded it to Pro. It will open a .mov file once, then after that it will not open any .mov file and in fact, when I try to open the Quicktime player it will not open itself. If I switch users to Admin, it all works fine, but when I go back to my regular role (where all of my preferences and programs are there for me to use), the same thing happens. An .mov file will open once, then never again, and the Quicktime player seems to be disabled.
I've tried different .mov files, so it's not a corrupt file that's the problem. And, in the past (a couple of Quicktime versions ago, I guess), all of this worked just fine.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated!

I have the exact same problem. They play on my Mac under Snow Leopard. Transfer to Vista gets a window with black and white and some other noise. No sound either.

Panel move working with Windows vista

Hello Everyone,
I've developed an application in LabWindows/CVI 9.0 under Windows Vista.
On the release version, I've noticed that when I try to move the main panel (drag using panel title bar), while the application is in a continued loop making measurements and whithout process any system events, the main panel stops to refresh even if the application is still running.
I've seen on this forum that this is a quite common issue, so I removed title bar and set the main panel as not movable in application workspace.
I recompiled the source code and I've seen that the main panel, whithout the title bar, could be surprisingly moved anyway only by clicking and dragging on a high corner of the panel. Obviously, during continued loop, if I try to move to the panel I always get the refresh panel stop.
This doesn't happen if the application is compiled and run under Windows Xp.
Anyone could give me any suggestions?

can you post a simple example that reproduce this issue in order to verify it myself on different machines and different CVI versions in order to see if it's a bug or something else?
Since you're saying it works under XP it might be a bug, and if it's so it would be very useful your example in order to fix it in the next releases.

Can't export to movie / test movie since yesterday... even reinstalled!!

I was working on a project for a few days... It all worked
fine, I was able to export to flash movie, test the movie etc..
But since yesterday, I can't export to mive anymore... it
asks me the file name and then the settings window appears, as
usual. When I click OK, the progress bar appears and either it
freezes, or I get a Windows error message pops up saying Adobe
Flash stopped responding...
I even reinstalled Flash, didnt work.. I then deleted some
layers , just to check if it would work, but now I got the message
"flash is out of memory"... and it froze again... (i never got that
memory message again)..
I'm using Flash CS3, Vista 64bit, 4GB Ram ...

I've had this problem a number of times. Usually you don't
have enough memory. One way I get around it is to take your
completed file and copy all the frames and paste them into a new
document. Do not save the new document and then try and export the
files. This should work.

How to move itunes library .New vista pc &keep music on an external drive?

I'm moving from a Windows XP machine to a new Vista machine. All my music is on an external hd that I conenct via usb. Before giving away my old lap I backup the itunes files named itunes.itl,itunesmusic library.xml, albun art work folder
I installed itunes 7.2 and then I go to the edit preferences and change the music folder to f;//my music son itunes gets the music from my external hard drive.
Then i copy the itunes files that i back up into the the c ;users itunes folder.
WHEN i open itunes it start loading my library but suddenly stops and somtekind of error as file lock appears. son i unistall itunes an reistall it. but need to install it rigth so i can keep with my playlist etc.

tried to add all my music to the new library. So i go to add folder to library and itunes starts getting some songs (i have more than 10000) but after a few minutes it suddenly stops and no songs were added to the library. and itunes freezes, so the only way to go ,is control alt delete ,stop itunes and start again.
I triend adding folder by folder , my music is organized as example. each floder has artist album and songs but I have to many folders . i tried adding one folder each time it ,instead off adding the my music folder with all the subfloders and it seems to work but it is going to take me months to finish.

I do the same thing as you do...
My music is on an external drive as to not use up gigabytes of storage that need not be used for media.
There are a couple basic principles to iTunes that I believe you should know.
1. iTunes is not a media storage program. It does not store your media "in iTunes". It simply is an organization tool for your media already on a hard disk.
2. As iTunes is not a storage mechanism, it has no way to "know" whether or not the media that is listed is actually there. This is where the "design" of iTunes comes into play.
I like to think of iTunes as a bread-crumb trail. The "music" in iTunes, isn't actually there. The bread crumb is the location on the external hard drive.
If that bread crumb trail disappears (in this case the external drive you use). If said external drive is not plugged in, that bread crumb trail is not able to be followed. iTunes is "lost" and unable to find the media. The only way to remedy this is to place the media on your local drive.
To address your issue of the library. If you hold down shift, you can select your library on your external drive. It will be a file with an .itl extension. The folder name will be your external drive.
I go into edit > preferences > advanced and set my library to the correct location. Make sure you check the box "Copy to iTunes Folder when importing" (or whatever it says).
You can't fix the issue of iTunes not seeing the media if your drive is unplugged unless you physically move the content to your OS HDD...Or any other HDD you use.

PP CC not playing back footage from timeline. Playhead moves but program window doesn't update.

I have an issue that usually comes up a few minutes after using Premiere Pro CC. Everything is fine and then the program window will stop previewing video from the timeline. Nothing else is frozen though. I can still move the playhead in the timeline around and select/highlight clips. But the program window will freeze on a frame and not update when i press play or move the playhead in the timeline. If I quite PP it will close but the icon still shows it as open so I have to "force quit". When I re-open the program it plays fine but the issue eventually comes up in a couple minutes. I'm guessing this has something to do with render issues… I'm using a Macbook Pro bought in early 2011.
Here are my specs:
Processor -- 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory -- 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk -- my internal Macintosh HD
OS -- Lion 10.7.5
Graphics -- AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB

Yes I downloaded PP CC on Decebmer 3rd, 2014. I can do that, would that help? I will google about doing that.
Ok… googled it… It turns out my graphics card doesn't support OpenCL (or CUDA)… it doesn't show up in the lists here: System requirements | Adobe Premiere Pro
So I will switch to software only. Do you think that will solve the issue?

Jumpy playback on Vista

A week or two ago, I got home from work, opened up iTunes to listen to some music, and the blayback is INCREDIBLY jumpy. It's to the point where it's unlistenable.
I called Apple Support, who weren't the greatest deal of help, and they told me to uninstall iTunes, Bonjour and Apple Mobile Device Service or whatever, then reinstall the package of all 3.
Well, I did that before they even told me that, and they insisted I try again... So I did, and it's still knackered... Any suggestions? It's an absolute pain!!!
