Playing Captivate HTML5 Projects

Hi All,
I've created a series of tutorials using Captivate 7 and when I upload them to Sharepoint or Dropbox to share with colleagues the HTML5 file doesn't open the project rather it leads to a blank page. However when I open it locally it plays fine. I've pushed the entire folder out to both Sharepoint and Dropbox so I'm not sure why the files aren't being read/linked or why I can't play them. Any ideas are appreciated.
Note that I do have some animated text but it still plays locally just fine. Also, I don't have the Scalable HTML Content box checked when publishing. I also use Fade for slide transitions. Do I need to make a project for each output???

You may need to post it to a webserver. Dropbox is more for file sharing and it doesn't have the software to run the files as HTML or swf. You could  have them download a zip file of the project, unzip it locally, and then run the multiscreen file to launch the porject using their browser. It should fire up automatically when they double click the multiscreen file.

  • Problem:  When I preview a Captivate 8 project, it ALWAYS plays in Firefox.

    Problem:  When I preview a Captivate 8 project, it ALWAYS plays in Firefox.  Even if I close Firefox, it won't use Chrome or Safari, which are open, but instead launches Firefox.  Any idea on how to fix this?

    You have to change the association of HTML files with FF as browser to
    another browser. This is a setting of the OS, not from CP.

  • Captivate 7 - Published file plays in HTML5 but not in SWF

    I have a project that I've published in both SWF and HTML5. I'm assuming that the browser reads which version to play. The project will play on my iPad, but not on my computer using Chrome or IE. I have published other projects with no problem. What could cause this one not to work?

    The code you have posted is not the same code as used in:
    <div id="gallery">
    in the link above.
    The reason that the Flash is not displaying in FF is that the portion of the code used by FF was omitted. The code currently used on the page only works in IE.
    I'm no great fan of the IE conditional statements used in the code you posted so I don't blame you for not using it. But you do need to provide something for FF.... the old, out dated method would be to add and <embed> for FF... here's the newer method..
    So either use code you posted above or better yet, get rid of that and replace the current <object> with
    <div id="gallery">
    <object id="FlashID" data="flash/201.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="958" height="242">
       <param name="movie" value="flash/201.swf">
       <param name="quality" value="high" />
         <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
         <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0"/>
    </object>
    </div>
    Give that a try. Will work in both FF and newer IE versions.

  • Audio Not Working in Captivate HTML5 Output

    Does anyone have difficulty with HTML5 audio playing? Specifically, slide audio does not play after a Random Question slide.
    To duplicate the issue:
    1. create a new Captivate 7 (or 8!) project
    2. insert 2 blank slides, each with Slide Audio
    3. Create a question pool with 2 multiple choice questions and insert a Random Question slide between the 2 previously created Blank slides
    When playing in HTML5 from the start (F11), the second background audio does play (is muted). Is there a workaround I can try? We need both: slide audio and random questions.
    Thank you.

    For those having this difficulty:
    I think I've found a workaround for this issue. I’m finding when audio is placed on each question slide in the pool, the audio on subsequent slides play. The audio on the question slides has to be different from audio used on non-question slides (but all the question slides can use the same audio). Also, the question slide audio can be a very short and silent piece of audio, so nothing is heard on the question slide itself.

  • My HTML5 project does not work in moodle with scorm enabled

    Hi,
    Wondering if anyone can help me with this, I have published my Captivate 6 project in HTML5 with SCORM 1.2 enabled but when I upload it to moodle and try to play the project on an ipad I just get a black screen. When I try to play the project through my browser on my pc it works fine, I have also created previous projects which have HTML5 but no SCORM and they work fine on the ipad. I have also checked that I have the neccessary browser settings on the ipad and it is all up to date. I know that adobe says that the projects should work with HTML5 and SCORM so can anybody help me with what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Liz

    Hi xswqazi09 and RodWard,
    Thank you for your reply.
    @Rodward: By showing the above mentioned setting I wanted to test that if these settings works on xswqazi09's end or not. However we can customize settings in captivate based upon our requirement.
    @xswqazi09: At my end i din't customize any settings inside scorm just published the output through captivate with the settings (in captivate) as shown above and then uploaded the content to see the result on i-pad deivice.
    Thanks

  • Buttons not working on published SWF Captivate 2 project

    I have published a daisychained Captivate 2 project in three
    pieces, all published as SWF. The first piece plays fine, but a
    user has to push a button to choose to either go to the second
    piece OR the third piece. The button was designed so that when
    pressed, it would open another CP project. The buttons in the
    published pieces make the clicking sound, but otherwise do nothing.
    When I published this as an EXE project with three pieces, the
    buttons did what they were supposed to do. I'd prefer to use SWF
    published output instead of EXEs. Any ideas as to what might be
    happening to prohibit the buttons from performing?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Welcome to our community
    If you are emailing the Captivate published file, likely the end user is running it from a temporary folder from their C drive. And that causes a security issue with Flash.
    If you insist on using the eMail method of distribution, you need to also instruct the user to save the attached files to a specific location, launch the HTML file. Then ensure they configure their Flash player security settings to acknowledge the location where they saved the files as being safe.

  • Uploading Linked Captivate 2 Projects into Sum Total LMS

    I've been trying to upload a series of media-rich linked
    projects to our Sum Total LMS. Although there are several projects,
    they are linked to play seamlessly to the end user. The problem is
    when each project is published, it creates its own zip file. In
    order to upload the files to the LMS they must be in one zip file
    or they will upload as separate, independent learning modules. I've
    encountered numerous challenges in attempting the upload.
    Does anyone have any experience/suggestions about:
    - Publishing each project into the same zip file
    - Uploading linked Captivate 2 projects to an LMS, especially
    the Sum Total LMS
    - Uploading a project with flash videos to an LMS
    I greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide.
    Thanks!

    I always link between Captivate files to ensure that my files
    are not too big. I have done this many times; however, I have not
    tried it when there is a quiz involved. What I do is link them
    inside Captivate, publish the files (non-zipped, which you can do
    if there isn't a quiz involved) and then zip them up together with
    Winzip. When you load it into the LMS, you need to choose either
    "Knowledge Document" or "General Document" and there, you can
    choose the launch file (whatever file you want to load
    first.)

  • How to export a Captivate 8 project to Power Point?

    I would like to be able to export my Captivate 8 project to PowerPoint so I can use it in a classroom training session and also be able to print out the slides to use as handouts.  Does anyone know how I can do this?

    Thanks Lillybiri, good tips!  I have a couple of other questions for you:
    1. When I print my handouts it resizes the slides to make them shorter, do you know if there is an option to keep the standard size of the slides?
    2. When you publish to PDF how do you manage the timings without playing the audio?  Obviously the trainer wouldn't teach at the same pace as the audio so there needs to be a way for the trainer to manually advance to the next slide/animation view.
    Thanks,
    Juliette

  • Integrate Multiple Captivate HTML5 Application Simulations inside a single course package

    Hi,
    We are using Captivate-8. We wants to integrate Multiple Captivate HTML5 Application Simulations inside a single course package. There is an option to create ‘Aggregator Project’ to do so if you have Flash (swf) output. As we are generating HTML5 output is there any way to so?
    We also want a menu where we can see list of all such imported files. Along with that we also wants to use simple content screens in between the simulations.
    Please share if you know how to achieve this.
    Thanks

    Hi Lilybiri,
    Our requiremetn is - We wants to develope a single package with at least few show-me simulations, try-me simulations and content screens. There should be some GUI which has menu to list all these pages and the pages should get loaded inside the GUI. There should be some navigation like Next/Back buttons to navigate from one page to other page.
    Like this we will have multiple packages. So we can not split each package into multiple SCO.
    Please help if there is alternate way to acheive this.
    Thanks.

  • Best Practice tips for publishing Captivate 8 project?

    Does anyone have any Best Practice Tips for publishing Captivate 8 projects?  Is HTML5/Flash the most universal?
    We will begin testing/training before our LMS is functional.
    We have no shared network capability or SharePoint type platform.  Project is too large for e-mail even when zipped.
    I am thinking that we will have to use thumb drive/CD along those lines.

  • Is there a widget for Volume Control for HTML5 projects

    Is there a Volume Control widget for HTML5 projects in Captivate 8? How does articulate do it?
    Is there a 3rd party Volume Control widget?

    Hi there
    "Adobe Captivate will need to change to complete."
    I'm assuming here you meant to type "compete". But that's the nature of any upgrade, no? I'm sure that Captivate will change.
    For what it's worth, I was toying with creating a simple audio player. Captivate does offer a way to increase the volume and decrease the volume using Advanced Actions. It works for SWF output. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work when Captivate produces HTML 5. I didn't test with Responsive output.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 shows major loading problems and stops

    Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 cause major loading problems in most browsers(IE 11, Chrome v. 35.0, Firefox v. 31). Loading… (screen)
    The view stops after a while and only the Loading… (icon) can be seen on the page.
    Is this a known problem with Captivate projects published to html5 and is there a way to fix it? What is wrong?
    Test the html5 version of this project at: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/
    and see for yourself what happends.

    I changed the Preferences/Project/Start and End  Preloader % to 25 and published the projects again. The course: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/elev/
    stopped like before on one of the first slides, loading… screen like before in IE11.
    In Chrome v. 37.0 the course worked badly, would not run, sound missing and buttons not working.
    In Firefox 31.0 the course worked to a degree even if the program was advising to use another browser for this content.
    In Opera 23.0 sound was missing and else working as bad as IE.
    All this testes is done on a PC using Windows 8 connected på internet via ethernet, download speed: 66.57.
    I would like to use the HTML5-format since it has a cleaner view than swf-files that appear to be jagged, but there is a lot missing before Adobe Captivates html5 publish is where it needs to be. Her are the complete html5 course and here are the swf based course for comparison.

  • Captivate 7 Project Crashing iPad Safari

    I have a particular slide in my HTML5-published Captivate 7 project that repeatedly crashes my 2nd generation iPad's browser (Safari).
    The slide contains 18 png images (total size <3mb), nine text entry boxes and 9 click boxes. Shuffling some of the content along the timeline to stagger the amount that loads simultaneously helps the slide to load without crashing but as soon as I tap one of the hotspots the browser crashes again.
    It seems like a memory issue on the iPad and I was wondering whether anyone else had encountered, and overcome a similar issue and how they did it?
    This is a major concern for me as these are basic things that I am trying to achieve and it seems as though I'm spending more time trouble shooting my content than actually developing it at the moment.
    Thanks.

    I've been carrying out further tests based on my post above and have a few more details.
    The items that seem to be causing the problems are nine individual groups, each containing an image, an image button, a text caption and three smart shapes. None of the groups are set to be visible on output and are shown using an advanced action (show) that is attached to one of nine click boxes on the slide. Once a group has been shown it can be hidden again by clicking the image button within the group, again using an advanced action (hide).
    To test that this was the cause of the issue I first removed all of the hidden groups from the page and published the project. Safari on my iPad didn't crash when there were no hidden groups.
    Next I gradually added one group at a time back in to my project, finding that it didn't crash with five hidden groups but it did with any more.
    I hope that this is of some interest and that there might soon be a way to get around this. Personally I think that the addition of a popup slidelet that is native to captivate might be the way forward.
    Although the post I'm linking to here started off discussing rollover slidelets there is some discussion relating to pop ups towards the end: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4663740#4663740

  • Captivate 7 projects do not close automatically like previous versions did upon course completion

    My users are used to their courses closing automatically when finished (launched from Inquisiq LMS).  Since upgrading to Captivate 7, projects I published using CP7 show a white blank screen but do not close.  The course results are saved just fine even after the user closes the window of the finished course manually but is there a way to close the window automatically?  I know as I publish more courses I am going to get tech service requests from users who are not used to this behavior.
    I tried setting the "On exit" action to exit to no avail.

    Vikram,
    Thanks for your response.  No they do not close when played locally either.  They just show a white slide and then you have to close the window manually.
    I set the on exit in the next to last slide.  I will try to set on the last slide.  The last slide is just an empty slide.  I could delete it.  The strange thing is that this was a Captivate 6 course that I opened, made a minor revision (deleted one slide), and republished using captivate 7, now it won't close.  Nothing else was changed.
    Any further help is appreciated.

  • What is Adobe Captivate Project [Compatible Mode] vs Adobe Captivate 5 Project?

    I have both types of files.
    Does a file get the compatible moniker if you've brought it in from Captivate 4? Or even if you copy and paste some assets in from Captivate 4 projects (i.e. buttons, quiz screens, etc)
    What does it affect? How can I get rid of this moniker?
    Thanks.

    I asked an experienced Adobe trainer and he said the [Compatible Mode] does not really affect anything.
    We were having issues b/c even though Captivate 5 says it can be published for Flash 9, what they really mean to say is that Captivate 5 can be published to Flash 9.0.28 and above.
    We had Flashplayer 9.0.16 so nothing would play. I thought it might have something to do with the files being [Compatible Mode], but that was not the issue.
    We are upgrading now to Flashplayer 10.
