Playing .ra files using Real Player SP

I used to play music files from redhotjazz.com site using Real Player. Since moving to Lion I now get the message A general error has occurred. I am running the latest version 12.0.0. of RealPlayer SP.

Hi Steve
You need to use the mp4: prefix. See http://helpx.adobe.com/adobe-media-server/kb/flash-media-server-stream-name.html
I recall having similar issues. We changed to name the files .mp4 and have no difficulties. We still use the prefix.

does the http://..../ramgen/... path is just for ram file?
can anyone show me the way to play audio data using real player?
    Thanx before.

Yes, realserver expects an exact mimetype.
to make matters worse, it expects audio/x-pn-realaudio (an audio mimetype) for video!?!?!
Seems the code inside maps multiple file extensions to some mime type. Only one is allowed.
I have used the unix strings commands in teh plugins directory to find the exact mime type realserver is expecting. The file format plugins have this information in them.

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file
    How do I fix this?

That would probably be a question best taken up in on a site for Windows support questions. Not knowing anything about the movie you're trying to play, all I can suggest is to confirm that the format of the movie you wish to play is supported in your version of WMP. If it isn't, you'll either need to convert the movie or use some other player software.

    Hi Ganesh,
my suggestion to u is use existing streaming protocol that already support by MMAPI, thats RTSP/RTP protocol.
u only need to configure existing streaming server like HELIX SERVER or DARWIN SERVER, and ENCODER like FFMPEG, HELIX PRODUCER, etc to encode ur live media / store file become RTP packet and then let server send that to ur client. u can use camera / TV turner also to capture live video and send that by streaming. So u dont need to make ur own server, except ur project need different protocol from that streaming server use.
in client side, u can choose to use REAL MEDIA or make ur own player, Nokia already support RTSP protocol since S40 3rd edition and S50 2nd edition FP 3. so u dont need to parse by ur code RTSP message and RTP packet. u also can use forward and backward fiture too by that both streaming server.
please read any RTSP / RTP standar protocol reference, i think it will be helpfull to u to make ur own system configuration ..

  • Extremely poor sound quality on all apps after using Real Player!

    Hi there
On my Leopard iMac (Core2Duo) I am experiencing extremely poor 'lo-fi-like' quality on all audio from all applications including iTunes, Quicktime and Safari as a result of using Real Player to play a file online.
I very rarely use Real Player and this was the first time I'd used it in months to even a year. The file was a simple RAM file from a store website allowing me to listen to a sample of a music file. When played, the quality was low but I expected this from a music sample, and from Real Player. However, after closing Real Player, I noticed the sound quality had dramatically dropped to an almost un-listenable quality.
I have restarted and uninstalled Real Player with no luck. The poor sound quality still comes through my internal speakers, as well as external speakers, so it seems like a software issue.
Not sure what to do, please can anyone help as the audio is used all day every day on this iMac!
    Thank you

Just tried it as I did get iLife with my Mac. GarageBand froze for the first few times I loaded it up, then I managed to get it to work. Played with the on-screen keyboard which produced perfect sound.
Closed GarageBand, restarted iTunes, tested, working perfectly! Crystal clear sound back again!
Thanks so much for that, really appreciated!

  • Cannot stream using Real Player

    Hi all,
Basically, I can stream to the phone using third party apps like Spodtronic and Vimio live TV, but I cannot stream anything using Real Player. It connects then just sits there on 'loading' until I get a server time out. This happens with music sites, mobile YouTube, Orb, etc.
One thing to note, I'm on T-mobile UK's basic Web 'n' Walk package which states in Terms & Conditions that it does not allow streaming, however, it seems there are others on the same package that can stream and I have been assured by a tech at t-mobile that I am not getting blocked by them. Interestingly, their test N95 had the same problem!
From the responses I have had on other forums it seems there are lots of others out there with the same problem. Not much in the way of suggestions for solutions though.
    Can anyone help?! Please!

    That's easy...Shuffle doesn't play RealPlayer music.
Does that just go for the 2nd gen shuffle? Because my
1st gen one does? Thanks for the help
News to me... Page 13 of iPod Shuffle (1st Gen) Users Guide:
Audio File Formats Supported by iPod shuffle
    • AAC (M4A, M4B, M4P) (up to 320 Kbps)
    • MP3 (up to 320 Kbps)
    • MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
    • WAV
    • AA (audible.com spoken word, formats 2, 3, and 4)
A song encoded using AAC or MP3 format has near CD-quality sound, but takes up much less space than a song encoded using AIFF or WAV format. When you import music from a CD using iTunes, it is converted to AAC format by default.
Using iTunes for Windows, you can convert nonprotected WMA files to AAC or MP3 format. This can be useful if you have a library of music encoded in WMA format. For more information, open iTunes and choose Help > iTunes and Music Store Help.
iPod shuffle does not support AIFF, Apple Lossless, MPEG Layer 1, MPEG Layer 2 audio files, WMA, or audible.com format 1.

  • Playing DVD's in Real Player

I have a client that I have made a DVD for in DVDSP 4 and it plays on DVD, MAC, Windows computers put we could not play the DVD on his Windows computer using Real Player. Don't know why he uses it but he does. Does anyone know if there is a problem with DVDSP and Real player playing DVD's. Just trying to find a solution for my Client. Any help would be great. Thanks

It's rather up to him to find out from Real. I don't think there's a good explanation other than his version of RP may need updating. Which might not even be possible, Real is so yesterday. (I didn't even know they were still in business.)

  • Unable to load/play sound files using SoundEngine_LoadEffect

    Hi All,
I am able to load/play sound files using SoundEngine_LoadBackgroundMusicTrack but unable to load/play sound files using SoundEngine_LoadEffect on iPhone Simulator. I am using the SoundEngine.h/cpp from Crash Landing. Oddly enough sound effects load and play succesffully when i start the app with 'Start with Performance Tool'. Does anyone know what is actually going on.
Also i would like to know what is the difference between playing sound files using these two methods. What are the restrictions on individual sound file types for each method.
    Thanks

I was able to load/run the sound effects after using Simulator - iPhoneOS 2.1 in the Active Target/Build drop down on Xcode toolbar. Both Active SDK, and Active Executable should be 2.1 in order to play the sound effects.

  • Cannot Play .DAT Movie Files in Real Player/Java Media Player

    Hi,
I wanted to play some movie files in Solaris 10 (Was curious if the movie might be rendered more crisply in Solaris than Windows :) ) but found that .DAT files are not played in Java Media Player.
So I downloaded the Real Player for Solaris 10 x86 (The bin file which is a self executable installer). Now Real Player plays mp3 songs without a problem, just like Java Media Player, but it does not play any movies with a .DAT extension.
I thought may be I need to download a small patch and hence googled a bit, but could not find anything. So googled again to find if there was some work around, but could not come up with anything.
Has someone faced a similar problem? If anyone could help me with this, I would be really thankful.
P.S: I have boasted to my friends how good Solaris 10 is and if I get the .DAT movies working in Solaris 10, they will surely think of getting it installed on their comps cause it pretty much does everything else !!

That application is in the Applications -> Utilities Folder.
Change the popup menu under "Properties for" to Apple logo Built-in Output. And change the Source to Internal Speakers, and format to 44100.0 Hz with the downward pointing triangle next to the Hz rating.

  • I have recently installed firefox 4. it is wonderful. small problem is i cant get to use real player to download flash player files (like u tube for example) although the plug inn in the real player setting supports firefox. thanks

i have firefox 4 on my computer 9fujitsu simens laptop) system of computer is windows xp pro sp3. i watch lots of videos on u tube and similar applications. usually there is a feature on real player that allows me to download these videos to my computer, and this feature works perfectly for internet explorer, and google chrome. nevertheless it doesnt work on firefox. i checked that the option on the real player menu supports firefox for downloading but i just cant activate it

You had to have some kudos for the effort put in to your thread as week as the point you make.

  • Firefox locks up and wants flash player installed, I use real player because new flash player is only trialware!

Two weeks ago the latest flash player was downloaded and installed. Now I find flash player was a trial ware program that requires payment so I put real player into my computer because it's free. Currently I'm unable to use Firefox without flash player wanting to load? Internet Explorer works fine, do I need to remove Firefox and replace it with Internet Explorer or chrome as my default browser?

Sorry, I have no idea what you may have installed that wants payment now. Adobe doesn't charge end users for the Flash Player ''(or Shockwave for Director)'', they get paid by the developers who publish Flash SWF files via the development programs the individual developers purchase, AFAIK. Maybe you installed something that wasn't intended for end users.
Real Player doesn't play the SWF format files by default. A format that is for Adobe Flash presentations.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flash#Format <br />
Unless someone has come up with an optional Plugin for Real Player that isn't widely distributed. <br />
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Player#Formats_supported_by_optional_plug-ins
Your '''''More system details''''' listed next to your initial posting here doesn't show a Flash Plugin for Firefox, so I have no idea what you installed that wants payment.
Please see this support article - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-flash-plugin-view-videos-animations-games
Internet Explorer uses the ActiveX version of Flash, and Chrome comes with its' own version of Flash because Google has no problem with working a deal to include proprietary software in Chrome. <br />
Mozilla on the other hand is very rigid at making sure that Firefox is completely open source, and without proprietary software as part of the standard installation.

  • Getting problems while playing video files in flex player

    Hi friends,
Here i can able to play all video file formats like .mp4,3gp,.flv,.swf.But the problem ,i can't able to play mobile recording video files in this player even if that files are mp4 or 3gp or flv.In this scenario, can't understand what should do and where is my problem. So it would be grateful if anybody suggests and share me some idea where i am wrong.
    Regards,
    abhishek

People use one-player-per-video because you can't reuse player objects. Player is a parent class to a whole bunch of subclasses, each subclass is capable of playing a specific kind of video. So when you create your Player object, you're actually creating some subclass type that's specific to that video type. So while it's technically possible to use a single Player subclass to play more than one video, unless all of your videos are of the same video encoding / audio encoding...you won't be able to reuse it.
What you need to do is dispose of the last player before you create a new player (player.close), and do that over and over again. That way, you're never using more than 1 player's worth of memory...
