Playlists for Podcasts in iOS gone?

Since i updated to ios5, podcasts do not play continuousely in the background. Instead, in order to listen to a specific podcast subscription, i have to open the music app, choose the next podcast (although it's within the same "subscription"), and tap "play". Is there a solution to that problem. And no: i don't want to rearrange my Podcasts in separate playlists!!

There was a reply posted at https://discussions.apple.com/message/16402706#16402706 that might address this.  The answer posted there was:
Under Settings, Audio & Video, set "Show Playlists" to "All", instead of "Music Only"
Hope this helps.

  • Did Apple get rid of the Smart playlist for Podcasts in iOS 6

I can not figure out how to do a smart playlist consisting of Podcast with apples latest ios.  I had no problem making smart playlist with podcast when the podcast were included with the music app.

But I have at last found a fix that has worked for me, at least. I deleted the Podcasts app from my iPhone 4 (and from iTunes on my Mac), re-started my iPhone, and - Happy Days! - the unplayed podcast episodes I was looking for have returned to my smart playlist in the Music app, as they are in the iTunes smart playlist on my Mac.

  • Using playlist for podcast

even though a playlist of podcasts has multiple items, when I choose to listen to that playlist my iPod only recognized 1 item. That is, the playlist of podcasts could have 155 items, but when the first one plays the iPod identifies it as 1 of 1.
I'd like to find out what what I must do for this to be resolved and the entire list plays when selected.
    Dell Dimension 3000   Windows XP

I found the solution-- delete the preference files for iTunes and iPhoto and start over.

  • Playlists for Podcasts

iTunes (7.6.2.9) will let you create a playlist by dragging selections from the Podcasts library table. The playlist will be synchronized with the iPod (in my case, a 4gb mk3 nano running 1.1 firmware), but it is unusable.
When selecting 'playlists' from the music menu, it indicates "no playlists"; however, if I put "playlists" on the main menu, it indicates "1 playlist", but I can't use it.
Of course, if the sorting capability for podcasts were available, I wouldn't need a playlist, but that doesn't change the fact that either iTunes or iPod is broken with respect to putting podcasts in playlists.

Based on what I've seen for podcasts, I don't think what you are trying to do will work if your podcasts are auto updated in the ipod.
When you subscribe to them they update in Itunes in the playlist for that podcast subscription. If you auto update the ipod, then the playlist in the ipod for the podcast will reflect as it is in itunes. If you do it manually, then you can create any type of playlist on the ipod and drag the podcast to it manually.

  • Can't create a smart playlist of podcasts in iOS 7?

I've got to iPhone 4Ss, one on iOS 6, the other on iOS 7. On the iOS6 device, I have created a Smart Playlist that contains my podcast subscriptions for the last two weeks. This playlist is the major use of my iPhone. However, on the iOS 7 device, The Recent Podcast playlist is there in the Music app, but it is empty. Is iOS 7 forcing me to listen to podcasts only through the useless Podcasts app?

  • Playlists for podcast have disappeared in the latest appleTV update!

Does anyone know what happened to podcast playlists? After updating my appleTV over the weekend the ability to view my podcasts through playlists have disappeared. I have set up individual playlist on my Mac separating my podcast/vidcast into playlist that made listening to my podcasts on my iPod and viewing video podcasts on my appleTV or iPad much easier. Am I missing something? I primarily use my appleTV to watch Netfix and view my video podcast. With this disappearing the ability to watch vidcast has become more difficult and I will probably use my appleTV less.
I have also noticed that ios5 took out a number of podcast features (2x speed, 30 second skip, chapters, etc.). Is their a reason they have done this, because I don't see any advantage to taking out useful features that they previously had in ios4. While I am happy with the majority of the features on ios5, what they have done with podcast have made ios5 useless for me to listen to podcast, because I always listen to them at 2x speed. Hopefully Apple decided to add these features back, but until then I guess I will have to use my ipod nano to listen to podcasts.

Never mind, don't know if this is new or not, but podcast playlist can be turned on/off in setting / audio/video / playlist options / music only or all.
When I updated to 4.4.1 my appleTV basically defaulted/reset so I had to set it up all over again. Just needed to look a little more. Also, with the podcast features removed in ios5, I guess I just jumped to the conclusion that it was pulled from the appleTV.
That said, I feel apple needs to get more consistent with some of their apps on different OS's. Too many feature variation from one to another.

  • ITunes 7.1 breaks smart playlists for podcasts

All previous podcast-supporting versions of iTunes built smart playlists that reflected the order of the files in the RSS feed... but not iTunes 7.1! Its smart playlist order reflects the order the files were added to the iTunes library.
You know how iTunes downloads multiple episodes in newest-to-oldest order? Well, that's how they show up in a smart playlist now.
And no, it's not a problem of sort order. I have tried every option related to sorting by name, artist, and album - nothing makes a difference.
So, in one of my podcasts (a radio feed recorded from 13:00 to 16:00 Monday-Friday), I now have:
    - CH0703151335
    - CH0703151306
    - CH0703151435
    - CH0703151406
    - CH0703151506
    - CH0703151535
    - CH0703161306
    - CH0703161406
    - CH0703161335
    - CH0703161535
    - CH0703161506
    - CH0703161435
Those are dates & times (2007-03-15, 13:06, for example), and of course the files are in correct date/time order in the feed. You might be able to guess how I figured out what it's doing. (If you didn't figure it out, here's the story: I updated the podcast while the episodes were being recorded.)
If you have seen this, did you figure out a way around it? Thanks! So far, I haven't, and it's really annoying. As I said, this is new in iTunes 7.1, and it persists in 7.1.1.

After more tinkering, I have figured out what's going on here, and I think there's a bug here.
For all of the podcasts I mentioned, the "Sort Name" is identical. In the case that the "Sort Name" is identical, I would think that the "Name" field would be used when sorting by name. Instead of sorting on name, however, iTunes is sorting on the date the file was introduced into the iTunes library. That seems to me to be a bug.
I have made a change to see if I can empty the "Sort Name" field, to see what that will do. Hopefully that will sort correctly.

  • Can I create playlists for podcast so they will play one after the other?

...instead of going back to the podcast menu after each one.
    ...Lisa

Yes. Uncheck the Skip option. Highlight all of the podcasts in your newly created playlist and go under File (or right-click...I think on a PC?) and select Get Info. You can turn off the skip option there on all of the files at one time.
Yes...set up this way, if you're shuffling a music playlist, you won't get podcasts mixed in. It will just shuffle the individual playlist. If you just choose Shuffle Songs from the main menu, where it shuffles every file on the iPod, then you might get a podcast.
    Happy podding!

  • Smart Playlist I've Created for Podcasts I cannot get to show on Touch

any ideas please ? I'm sure I had no problems ages back before OS 3.x but now I can't get a smart playlist for podcasts I've created to show up on my Touch
    bascially the smart playlist is:
    Media Kind is Podcast
Date added is in last 2 days
    Live updating (off)
and in Windows/Itunes works perfectly, does exactly what it should - shows all podcasts added in last 2 days
on Ipod Touch - Smart Playlist will not show
worked perfectly with OS 2.XX I'm sure
    thanks, Mark.

    Hi,
It looks like this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2322231 is discussing the same issue.
There are also some tips in the the thread that may help workaround the issue, like adding the Playlist is Music rule.

  • How to create a playlist for the movies I have?

Hope someone can help me here. How do you set the movies to play continuously? I can't seem to create a playlist for the movies. You can create playlist for podcast videos and musics but how do you creat playlist for the 3 movies I have got on my iphone?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Not exactly true. As absurd as it sounds, if you have just one music track in your playlist, then you can select it from the Playlists section on the iPhone and play your videos, movies etc. one after the other.
I have created a completely empty music track in Garageband which I drag onto the end of each and every video playlist I create. An ugly solution, but it works.
You have to remember to check the playlist in both the Video and Music sections in iTunes->Devices->Your iPhone.

  • Playlist for Mac on Clip Jam

I've owned several SanDisk Clips - (Clip, Clip+ and now Clip Jam). Before the Jam, I've never had any problem creating and playing playlists for mp4 podcasts.  But I cannot figure it out on the Jam. On my old Clip+, I merely created an m3u file in Mac's TextEdit and dragged it over, along with all the podcasts to the audiobooks folder on the Clip+. It worked with or without the #EXTINF: prefix. It worked every time. But my tricks don't work on the Jam. No matter where I place the podcasts or m3U file, it doesn't work:I can get the Jam to recognize the playlistSometimes it shows/plays the first song on the listUsually the playlist is emptyI don't have regular acess to a windows machine, so the example in the owners manual is no help.  What changed in the Jam that the old way no longer works? How can I make playlists on a Mac? Thanks for the help

Playlists on the JAM and SPORT need to be M3U. The playlist must be in the same folder as the songs, so a playlist with songs from both card memory and internal memory won't work.  The Jam and Sport have three Go lists that you can create on the player. Each can hold up to 100 songs. Unlike the Clip+ though, only one song at a time can be added to a Go List. I don't use playlists on my Clip Sport, but do use them on my Rockboxed Clip+ and Clip Zip.  There seem to be plenty of  issues with how podcasts and audiobooks are treated on the Clip+ and Clip Zip. There might not even be support for playlists for podcasts or audiobooks on the Clip Sport and Clip Jam. I suggest that you put the podcasts in the music folder if you want to use playlists with them. Are these podcasts properly tagged? If the player is still returnable, you might want to consider returning it and getting a Clip+ or Clip Zip. There might also not be complete MP4 support, and might be issues with playing long MP4 files. The Clip sport and Clip Jam are much more geared to playing mp3 files than MP4 ones.

  • Playlist with podcast

    Hi,
Since i installed podcast app, i cant add podcasts to my playlists.
If i uninstall I can, but then i cant download new podcasts.
Is there a workaround to have both functionalities, like in iOS5 ?
Why did Apple remove it ?
    Thanks,

Same issue here. Smart playlists for podcasts do not work on iPad. Grrr!

  • How can I make a book/podcast listening playlist for a blind person?

How can I make a book/podcast listening playlist for a blind person? How can lots of content be loaded, so that no navigation is required, for hundreds of hours of enjoyment?
I wanted to create a single playlist with hundreds of hours of books and podcasts for my grandmother who is blind. Then I planned to use something like the app CarTunes which basically makes the touch screen simply a gigantic pause/play button for an already created playlist.  This is perfect for a blind person. The problem: Apple no longer allows you to have a playlist with Audible Books and Podcasts. I have tried; but the podcasts and books are stripped from the playlist. It seems like all podcast and book players require navigation. (How aggravating!?)
Any help in creating hundreds of hours long spoken (selected between books and podcasts) audio content playlist for a blind person would be much appreciated!!!!

Well, good news and bad news. I found out how to tell iTunes that all my music videos are, in fact, actual "music videos" and categorize them as such. In the "Get Info" screen for a track, there is a dropdown selector where you can pick the "meta" type, such as "Music Video", "Home Video", "Movie", "TV Show", etc. This allows iTunes and iOS to think they are all music videos and play them in the same list.
Unfortunately, this is not compatable with my third party device, which is now refusing to play my music videos in a playlist and will only play them one at a time (in a single-track infinite loop no less). Very frustrating!

  • HT1399 Why cant I create a playlist for my music/song videos? Continuous play is also not possible in the video app on the phone!!!! previously, prior to IOS 6, it was possible to have both music videos & songs mixed in the same playlist in the music app

I am back with an update. I turned off Match on both the ipad and the iphone 5. By doing so I was able to sync my Iphone and ipad to itunes and store the music on my devices rather than the slow streaming.  So far this has fixed my problems with the iphone I have all my music, playlist, most of the album art and so on.  But the ipad is a different story.  I have the music and artist but not one playlist  I am sure Apple will have an upgrade soon that will address these issues they are usually very good about this.
Now have any of you experienced another problem that has existed as long as I have used faces in Aperture.
I have over 200 faces and they are organized a-z problem is I have this going on A-Z folowed by a few that start over A-Z followed by another few A-Z and again a 4th time A-Z.  Imagine how difficult it is while I am showing someone the great features of my iphone, ipad and imac.  Which I do talk highly of all the time.  But how do I explain that even though their name starts with a or b or what ever they are not important enough to me to be in the first list of A-Z or even the 2nd or 3rd list of A-Z someohow they are in the 4th section of the list!!!!
I have managed to get the Imac to fix this but for some reason the IOS devices do not.   Any ideas?
    Thanks Al

  • Can't set up a simple playlist for my podcasts

This is driving me NUTS. Due to various circumstances too long to go into here, I am using a temporary iPod (an old Nano, I don't know what the generations are called) and iTunes 10 on a temporary laptop. All I want to do is create a single playlist on this iPod for podcasts that I listen to in the car. When i set this thing up, it created a whole bunch of "genre" smart playlists that I can't get rid of. Including things like "90's Music" that immediately go to the top of the list. If I disable these, then I can't get the playlist I set up for my podcasts! Why in the world can't I set this up the way I want it, and not the way Apple thinks I should be using it?

When i set this thing up, it created a whole bunch of "genre" smart playlists that I can't get rid of. Including things like "90's Music"
Those are the default playlists created by iTunes.
If you don't wna them, delete them.
that immediately go to the top of the list.
Playlists are sorted in alpha/numeric order.
If I disable these, then I can't get the playlist I set up for my podcasts!
    Don't disable Playlists in Prefs.
Just delet the playlists you don't want.
