  • Connecting a Playstation 3 to my iMac. Is it possible?

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and I'm sorry If I posted this in the wrong section.
I recently bought an Apple iMac G5. I haven't used Mac before so I'm not very familiar with it. I was wandering, is there any possible way to connect a Playstation 3 to it? And if there is, would the the output be HD (higher definition) or just normal?
    Thanks in advance..

"I recently bought an Apple iMac G5."
Apple has not made a G5 iMac in over 3 years. More than likely you have an Intel iMac which is a different model.
You will need to re-post over in the Intel-based iMac Forums
"I was wandering, is there any possible way to connect a Playstation 3 to it?"
Have you searched Google? I know there are many detailed instructions to connect to a G5 iMac on Google.

  • Can I use an iMac as a display for a Wii & Playstation 3?

    Hello folks,
My GF and I are planning to buy a 24" iMac and we are planning to replace our old boxy television with the iMac.
Can someone please tell me if it's possible to connect a Wii or a Playstation to the iMac, or should I keep the old telly handy.
    Cheers

I'm not sure how easy it will be with the Wii and not sure what PS your talking about. I have done it with the Xbox 360 as it has a DVI adapter to my 24" iMac. However some people are using boxes like this one; http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/catalog/XCM-1080p-VGA-Adapter-Xbox-360-Wii-PS 3-PSP-Slim-p-2709.html to use a Wii with monitors. Granted it will only be VGA so you will need a VGA to Mini-DVI for the iMac. This is a little pricey but will work with most systems.
There are just stand alone cables like this one; http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?productid=20658&partner=googlebase&bid=3 so you might need to look around for adapters. It can be done though.

  • Hello Apple. Is it possible to connect a playstation to a imac?

Hello Apple user. Is it possible to connect a Playstation 3 to an Imac?

Connect it to do what? If you want to play the media on your iMac through your Playstation, for instance, there's MediaLink:

If you want to do something else, tell us what that something might be and perhaps someone can offer suggestions.

  • Imac + Playstation 3 = disaster for airport

I bought my current 24", 2.8 ghz Imac one month ago and have never experienced problems with my wireless service. Last week I bought a playstation 3 and connected it wirelessly to the same router. Now, whenever I try and access the internet on my Imac I can't seem to get a connection. When running network diagnostic it picks up my router but can't connect, I've attached the ethernet cable and it works fine. When attempting to connect I am told 'connection timed out' and then 'connection failed'. Sometimes it briefly picks it up again and seems to be running fine. I've turned off the playstation and disconnected it from the router completely but this has no affect. Anyone got any ideas?

Don't know what kind & maker of router. I would suspect that if you can have a Utility if an Apple router or the web page setup if Linksys router to at least re-check your network setup. Sounds like the router you have wants to JOIN the Sony new network instead of the other way around.

  • Problems connecting iMac and iWire to Sony PlayStation 3

Hi. Simple issue. I cannot for the life of me get my Sony PS3 to connect to my iWire local network at home, which otherwise I've never had any problems with.
When I go through the (simple) setup procedure on the PlayStation, it locates my network, then asks me for my WLAN Key Settings, giving me the options of None, WEP and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. I try entering my iWire password into the system as a WEP key (which I think is right), then it says it's not recognised and prompts me to put in hexadecimal settings (?). I try the same thing on the WPA option, again, it doesn't work. I've also tried putting in my Airport Express password, see if that changes anything, but it doesn't
I couldn't see a topic heading on this subject heading through a search, so forgive me if it's already been answered elsewhere. Anyway, I'm stumped, so if anyone's connected successfully, could they share how they did it and what exactly a WEP key is! [Incidentally, I posted this earlier, but I believe in the wrong section]

Thanks. My Airport Express is providing the wireless network - and on my Playstation, it comes up as Robert's Wireless Network (what I've called my AE network) and I put in what I know is the correct password for that network, but it comes up as unrecognised, even though I'm sure I've put in the correct word. So, if as you say I'm doing the right thing, then maybe I'm entering the information wrong, or need to add something to my standard WEP password?

  • Anybody here successfully connect PlayStation 3 to iMac wirelessly?

I have internet sharing turned on. I have my wireless network set up using the iMac's built-in Airport Extreme Card. My PS3 can find my wireless network and it can obtain the IP address but it can not communicate with the server due to a DNS error.
Sony and Apple support could not help me. You all are my only hope. I know it can be done. I just need to find someone who has done it and is able to explain it to me.
    Thanks for any help.

Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

These are the instructions from the Help menu in the Finder. It is easy to look up subjects if your change the view in the Help Viewer to Index.
    Sharing your Internet connection
If your computer is connected to the Internet, you can share its connection with other computers on your local network.
For example, if your computer is connected to the Internet using a DSL modem and has an AirPort Card installed, you can share the DSL connection with other AirPort-equipped computers.
On Windows computers, sharing your Internet connection is sometimes referred to as a "network bridge," or 'bridging your network."
    1. Open System Preferences, click Sharing, and then click Internet.
    2. Choose a network port from the "Share your connection from" pop-up menu.
    3. Select "Built-in Ethernet" or AirPort depending on which computers will share your Internet connection.
    4. If you have turned on the firewall on the Firewall pane of Sharing preferences, you also need to turn on Personal Web Sharing on the Services pane of Sharing preferences in order to share your Internet connection and allow computers connected to your Internet connection to browse the web.
IMPORTANT: If your Internet connection and your local network use the same port (built-in Ethernet, for example), investigate possible side effects before you turn on Internet sharing. In some cases (if you use a cable modem, for example) you might unintentionally affect the network settings of other ISP customers, and your ISP might terminate your service to prevent you from disrupting their network.

  • IMac or Playstation 4?  Concerned that iMac won't be able to handle hard core gaming...

    Hi All,
Anyone think that the new generation of iMacs can handle hard core gaming?  I have a 21.5" with the NVidia 650 graphics card.
I had a 23" iMac a couple of years ago and went through 2 graphcs cards and a logic board before it was eventually replaced by Apple Care.  I don't want to repeat that exercise.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that won't happen with a game machine either.
Follow the specs of the machine and find out if the games are known to be compatible with the said computer.
Buy AppleCare before the machine is a year old if you get a Mac.

  • Networking Playstation 3 and iMac

Hello there. I am a fairly new mac user, 24" iMac being the first one I have owned. I am a little confused on some of the settings to get my network running.
Basically I am using the iMac as my main computer. It connects to the internet wirelessly through my netgear wireless cable modem. No problems there.
My PS3 also connects wirelessly to the same modem and works fine connecting to the net and playing games online.
The problem is, I can't get the two to see each other. I would like to stream files off of my imac to the PS3, but when I "search for media servers" on the PS3, it says none were found.
I can't really give much info as I am a noob when it comes to networks so I wouldn't know what settings I have that would be relevant to post.
    Thanks for your help!

Out of box, you are NOT going to get them to talk to each other.
Sony is in the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) camp, and Apple on it's own with Bonjour and iTunes. You need to find a DLNA compliant product that runs on OS X to stream media contents from iMac to PS3.
Here is the home page for DLNA: www.dlna.org
