Plot number of graph display using mouse

Dear all,
I have attach a VI. How can i display the plot number (small label) when i move my mouse on any of the points on the plot? I have tried annotations label before however when i zoom in on the plot, my annotations are clearly out of view. Making annotations for every datapoints are also inefficient.
There are many plots to be displayed also and the use of colour to identify is quite limited. I have also tried to make the plots visible and invisble however it is also very troublesome if there are many plots.
I am wondering if there are any ways to distinguish which plots belong to which number when i hover my mouse on the datapoints on any of the plots or any other workround i can do apart from the methods i described above.

Dear all,
I have come up with some modifications as attach. Right now i am able to update my annotations as i scroll the mouse along the plot. However i face one problem, when i use the zoom function on the graph to zoom in onto some window and i try to scroll the mouse again, it always return the plot back to the original view plot (un zoom plot).
Is there any ways i can modify the plots so that the annotations will remain in the zoomed view without it going back to the original view plot?

Hi,
Take a look at this example, it uses property nodes to select tha
active plot and then changes the color of that plot.
If you want to make the number of plots dynamic you could use a for
loop and an array of color boxes.

i am getting 10 rows using data_row . i wanna show only first 5 rows .
pageSize ="5" will be ok . but it displays remaining rows in next page. but i want to display only first 5 rows . is there any attribute to restrict number of rows.

I have no idea which component you're talking about. If want to discuss here about a non-Sun JSF component, then please mention about the name, version and build in detail. You can also consider posting this question at the website/forum/mailinglist of the component manfacturer rather than here. At least I can tell you that the Sun JSF h:dataTable has the 'rows' attribute for that. I can also suggest you to just take a look in the TLD documentation of the component in question. There should be all possible attributes listed with a detailed explanation about the behaviour.

Plotting on xy graph based on mouse coordinates

I am looking into plotting Mouse coordinates on XY Graph continuously based on where i move. My computer's resolution is 1200x800 and i would like it to plot based on where i move.,

The XY Graph has a method which converts coordinates to XY values. You can call it by right clicking the graph and selecting Create>>Invoke Node>>Map Coordinates to XY.
However, if you look at the help for it, you will see that the coordinates it expects are those of the pane the graph is in, and the coordinates you have are of the screen. You can convert your global coords to pane coords by getting the VI's Front Panel Window. Panel Bounds property, building two matching XY clusters from the data and subtracting them (assuming the VI only has one pane) or you can use another loop with an event structure and a Mouse Move event (which returns local data) on the graph and then transfer the position data to your loop (you could also use a single loop, but that might be more complicated because the event structure will process every move of the mouse as a new event).
You will also need to keep the data to place in the graph somewhere. If you open the context help window and hover over the graph's BD terminal, you will see the data types it expects and you will need to build one of those yourself. A shift register is something you might want to look into. There are also some examples showing working with graphs in the example finder (Help>>Find Examples).

Moving xy graph cursor with mouse and programmably controlling snap to point

Hi,
I have run into a bit of a problem. I am trying to create a program which allows a user to select a location on an XY graph by simply clicking in the vacinity of the plot. Most of it is working, however I find that I can't programmably control the snap to point function reliably.
I hope this is a clear outline of the problem:
- The cursor starts in a Free state, so that when the
user clicks in the plot area, I can set the cursor
position to the nearest point by setting the
CursorPosition using the graph's property node.
- Maybe the user didn't like the chosen location and
wants to drag the cursor over a bit. Ok, user drags
the cursor to a new position.
- Now th
e cursor position is probably not exactly on
the plot trace. If, at this point, I set the cursor
to Snap To Point, the cursor does not snap to the
nearest point on the graph (relative to its current
position), but instead to the last place a _mouse_
action placed it.
- Immediately after the new location has been set,
the cursor state has to be reset to free in case I
need to programmably move the cursor again (I
can't seem to programmably control the mouse in
any state but Free)
How do I go about getting the cursor to snap to the closest point at it's new location? I'm at a loss.
Any insight you might have would be greatly appreciated.

So what is the question about... I have to use XY graph in my program. It is used in Loop while cycle. It shows the statistic of a variable. I am using cursors in this graph to check the actual value of a variable in different period of time. But there are 7 variables and it is extremely hard for user to check each value independently. So I tried to make them moving on the X axis (TIME) together using the property node (cursors reading the position (only X axis, Y axis status lock to plot) of the major cursor and follow it... Everything looks great? But it did not work when I am trying to move the major cursor manually on graph... It works only when I am using the cursor movement buttons... But they work very slowly when there is a lot of data in graph.
I want to find out is it possible to make seven coursers mouthing together By the X axe and be Locked each at its plot by Y axe manually (Using mouse moving on a graph). Is it possible? If it is than how to do it?

Plotting on Log graph

Good Day,
I am plotting a semilog graph displayed on the front panel of my program.
The unit on the x-axis is in frequency(Hz) and the y-axis is in dBc/Hz
I wanted to program in such a way that the a straight line is plot between points at 10,100,1K,10K and 100KHz.That is to say I only need to key in 5 values.
My plot now jumps back to zero as all the values set to zero by default when i do not enter value into each array cell. I hope someone out there has solution to this.

You probably want to use an xy-graph. This way you can graph arbitrarily spaced points.
(If you want to use a waveform graph, you must generate interpolated values for all intermediary array elements).

Is it possible to delete a plot with using mouse to select it on the graph control?

For example, when I use PlotLine to plot thousands of lines on the graph control, I want to delete some of them, but there is thousands of plotHandle generated.
How can I get the plotHandle of the specific line on the graph control with using mouse to select it?
If I record information of the lines, ex. the plotHandle and the coordinates, on a table or list, etc. , I have to compare the information of lines to get the plotHandle of the specific line.
Is there any user-friendly way to delete a plot by select it on the graph control?

Sure! Look at the example located in \samples\userint\graphcursors for an example of how to accomplish this task.
Briefly:
The cursor must be in "Snap to point" mode
(To be confirmed) The graph must be in "Retain" data mode
You must have a callback for the graph control
You can use GetGraphCursorIndex to retrieve the plot handle
GetGrpahCursor retrieves values of cursor position in engineering units

How do you plot multiple curves on the same graph when using a while loop?

I am writing a program that will plot the IV Output chracterisitcs curves for a MOSFET transistor. I have two sweep variables Vg and Vd. For each Vg valve selected, Vd is swept from its start to stop voltage creating a graph for that Vg valve. Both of the sweeps are done using while loops. Ideally I would like to display all of the Vg plots on the same graph while having the ability to do real-time graphing. Can anyone help me figure this problem out? I have attached my program. I expected, that an Applications Engineer from NI knows something about a Transistor and how an Output characteristic looks like !! Take a look to a typical Transistor Datasheet ( e.g. n-channel MOSFET) - you will see, that there is no relation of ID vs Time like in your example ( values vs time ) but IDrain vs VDrain at different VGate's ( no relation to Mr. Bill Gates ).
Find attached a vi, that in general does what you need - drawing of curves vs x-axis (XY-graph in use) - in test_sweep.zip. And that you geet an impression, how it might be done ...... dynamic Output characteristic of a Transistor with Standard Equipment of a Lab ( Scope + Generator + Power Supply ) find in addition a Frontpanel - picture. One of the interesting points here is - the self-heating effect; visible on ch3 of scope - 5µs Pulse is already a very long time...... This measurement was done in order to compare with our own Transistors.........

Labeling Variable Number of Plots on a Graph?

I'm loading up an unknown number of files and graphing them. Since it can get a bit confusing, I'd like to be able to take a portion of the file name and label each plot on my graph. Since there is a variable number of graphs, I can't seem to work around how to wire the property node. There are several other things I'd like to do with the graph, but dont know if its possible or not such as having a label pop up if your cursor is over a plot.

You are going to have to embed the reference node for the graph into a for-loop like the attached example. File names or portions thereof are built as strings and then added into the property node Plot>>Plot Name.
I'm not sure about how to get a label to pop up if you are over the plot. You might be able to do it with some cursors and associated code.

Looking up the values in a waveform graph with a mouse click

Hi,
Does anyone know how to look up the values in a waveform graph with a mouse
click but... without the cursor legend on, if i press in the waveform graph
nothing happens, i must search my cursors and only then i can see the values
of my signal data?! Isn't there any other way?

Dear Chad,
I know of the function "bring cursor to center". I also figured out that
when i use a property node of the cursor array of clusters, that i can see
that some values change when i move the cursor (i can see the X and Y scale
value change of the graph and also the values of the mouse pointer (in
points due to screen resolution)) But in this cluster i can't set the mouse
position. I allready made a VI where i can see the bounds of my
waveformgraph and I have the Xscale (min and max) and the Yscale (min and
max), with a linear fit i can translate my mouse position to X an Y scale
values and when i click on my waveform graph the cursor go's to that
position (property node of the cursor position), only disadvantage is that i
only have the bounds of my plot area and not the position, i do have the
position of my waveform graph but the plot area isn't allways in the center,
if i could extract the position of the plot area i may find a solution to
solve this problem.
And to file a product question:
I would like to see the function that with a mouse click a little menu
appears and that there are options to for example set a marker on that data
and when you right click on it, that there are options to remove it or to
add comment, a 2D array could make a list of the different channels with
it's markers (time stamps and comments).

Do you know a VI or a mean to remove plots from a graph?

I'd like to remove plots from a graph and i know their
x-cordinate do you know a VI or a mean to remove them?

A graph is just a display of different points in graphical form. You can actually get the points out of the graph, remove the points of the plot you want to take out from the array, and put it back into the graph.
Another way I've done it is to use the property nodes, and make the color of the line on the graph transparent. That way, the data is still there, but the plot is invisible.

Working with dynamic scales in waveform graph - display problem

Hello
I want to use the same waveform graph in the frontpanel for different measurements. These measurements contains 1 to 8 curves, some of them I need to autoscale and others I want to use fixed scales. I wrote a method containing these functions and the functional behaviour is how I expected. But when it runs several times, LabView cannot correctly manage the graph display. Some scales are behind the graph or two scales are at the same position.
Perhaps you have a look at my example VI (LV 7.1), I generate a random Waveform and want to display a random number of curves and some of them in fixed, and some in autorange. The more I run the VI, the more the waveform graph display gets wrong. Does anybody know a solution?

Ben, thanks for the link. Christian's suggestion is right and describes a similar problem.
I solved the problem now on an other way. Each time before I change the visability of the scales I reset all settings to the default (startup) values by property nodes (YScale.Maximum, YScale.Minimum, All Visible...). Then I make the scales which I don't need unvisible, link the graphs to the prefered scales and set the Min/Max or autoscale.
Important: I got 4 scales on each side. When I want to use eg 2 scales on the left, I need to make visible scale number 1 and 2. Scales 3 and 4 can then be set to unvisible (in other words in an incrementing order).
Makeing scales visible and unvisible is a little bit nervous on the screen. So, during that process I bring a picture of the last waveform on the top of my screen and change to the graph view when all settings are done.
Now I got a really great waveform viewer with the possibility, scaling some graphs by autoscale, others by fixed scales, using up to 8 scales selectable on the left/right side, user definied colors, names and units.

Graph display issues

Hello everyone,
I am currently facing a problem of graph display. After some manipulations (typically a mouse wheel scrolling), a part of the curves of my XY graph disappears (see attachment).
I’m using Windows XP and Labview 2009. I have observed the problem on computers with runtimes (no labview development system installed).
Concerned applications have already been tested and some of my colleagues also face such problems for some time. I suspect a hardware compatibility problem but I do not really know how to search and even less how to solve this issue...
Any idea?

Can a waveform graph be used without for loop

i would like to know if a waveform graph can be used without a for loop and if so, how? I tried using a while loop only, but the reading becomes too fast.

Dear nebb,
first of all, graph is usually an offline plot of the acquired data but to use it as an online display u need to use build arrays in for/while loop which keeps on adding new points & plots in waveform graph.
I am including a vi which incorporates a while loop in which by using build array, points keep on increasing & simultaneously they are plotted in the waveform graph.
Using for or while loop, it has no concern with speed. it depends on the code inside the loop which makes them faster or slower.
For making slow readings, you can put some delay inside while looping.
