Pls help!! installling oracle 9i on redhat 8 hangs

I installed on RedHat9, but got the same problem.
Add the following environment variable:
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
You will get 2 more errors (at least I did on RedHat9).
I don't know if you will get the first error on RedHat 8, but I am certain you will get the second error.
I have not been able to find a fix for this one.
First error fails to compile some oem stuff.
make -f ins_oemagent.mk install <<--fails on missing lib references. Not sure why.
For now, I ignored it.
Second error is easily fixed and fail on...
make -f ins_ctx.mk install
Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk
Change the line:
INSO_LINK= -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca ...
to
INSO_LINK= -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m $(LDLIBFLAG)dl $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca ...
You can now retry.
Let me know if you get the same errors I got.
Thanks,

I'm more than a bit confused why anyone would be installing, 10 years after its release, a now desupported version of the product. It seems from what you posted that you are installing on an operating system version that did not exist when 9i (whatever that means - 9.0.3 or 9.2.0.5 are version numbers) was released.
I would suggest installing 10.2.0.1 on Redhat 4, 11.1.0.6 on version 5, finding an ancient version of the O/S if you want 9.x or playing games with the install to see if you can trick it into thinking you have compatibility which is generally speaking a bad idea.

  • Pls help:sending oracle reports with desformat=spreadsheet to email

Is there a way to send the reports with desformat=spreadheet to email(destype=mail). I tried to execute the commandline with destype=mail desname=[email protected] desformat=spreadsheet but I am getting a report with html type attachment. How could I make it xls(excel) instead of html

When having lots of repeating frames and fields placed in a complex pattern, the Oracle Reports doesn't know how to place them in the .xls cells.
You ought to have a second layout for the report (containing the same data) that would print when the desformat = spreadsheet and would be be rather simple in comparison to the one that would print when desformat=pdf/html.
In case you have several repeating frames it is best to have all the fields in those frames placed and vertically aligned on the same row in the layout, from left to right. This should give a reasonable output.

  • Pls Help: SQL Oracle; Win Unix!!

I'm looking to move SRM from SQL on Windows to Oracle on Solaris 10. Has anyone any experience in this and how difficult this may be? We are basing the Solaris SRM install on the Win SRM install - ie. same config, same version. We have 2 challenges:
    - converting embedded SQL to Oracle - will Oracle SQL Developmer Migration handle my needs here?
    - Win to Unix - Would the Java Machine install take away any need to convert existing java / javascript / perl scripts?
Hints and top tops greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi, did you ever get a solution to this because I am having exact same problem - I cannot see the scripts if I upload them nor can I type them in from scratch as the area for seeing/editting the script doesn't seem to be accessible.

  • Installation problem, pls help

I am trying to install Oracle 10g on SUSE 10.0.0 but when i run the ./runInstaller command, I receive an[b] error of writting to directory /tmp/OraInstall2006-03........, Please ensure this directory is writable and at least 60MB of disk space, i have checked for space using df -h /tmp, there is enough space, i think the problem has got to do with permission because @ the moment it belongs to root user, i don't know what to do, i am a novice to unix and need to install oracle today. Pls help
Usually the standard install of SuSE Linux should set the ownership and access rights to /tmp, if you want to give access to everyone on the system, just use this command (if owner/root access is available):
I have used chmod o+rwx /tmp command and still having the same error. Pls somebody help
    chmod o+rwx /tmp

Of course I assume you did correctly follow installation and configuration instructions. Did you read Oracle10g/Linux Errors and Problems from Werner Puschitz ?

  • Help in Oracle DB 11gR2 & Oracle 11gR2 Forms & reports Installation

    hello everybody
i just want Help in Oracle Database 11gR2 & Oracle 11gR2 Forms & reports Installation
iam unable to install 11g Database & Forms_Reports Developer in the Windows XP.
    Kindly Help me
    regards
    venugopal

    Some Preliminaries
First off, Oracle certifies only certain combinations of Oracle Fusion Middleware will work together, so make sure you have the right executables.
Only WLS 10.3.5 (and just released WLS 10.3.6) works with Oracle Forms and Reports 11.1.2.
Don't bother with the ZIP distribution on OTN.
Don't bother with the 12c (cloud distribution) of the application server.
First, you need to install the Java JDK (Java Development Kit) jdk1.6u31 or later.
Second, run wls1035_win32.exe to unpack and install the Weblogic server. Only install the software, do not install Windows service or run the Quickstart. That can wait until after Forms software installs.
Third, before installing Oracle Forms, a crucial environment variable setting needs setting. To make this change persistent, access your System Properties (right-click on My Computer icon on the desktop), switch to the "Advanced" tab , then press the "Environment Variables" pushbutton.
Create and set an environment variable "EXTRA_JAVA_PROPERTIES". Make sure that the value is set to -Xms256m -Xmx256m
Fourth, start the setup.exe program for the Oracle Forms and Reports 11.1.2 installer.
At Step 3 of 13, select "Install software - Do not Configure". This will save time in case configuration bombs and you have to retry.
After a long while, the software installation process will finish.
Fifth, you will want to run the configuration wizard. This is the most memory sensitive part of the whole process.
Please close down all disk and memory intensive applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Firefox, and possibly Internet Explorer.
Failure to allow enough memory to inflate several JVMs can cause the wizard to hang.
You will have acquired a bunch of new Programs and shortcuts.
Swing over to the Start Menu and look for the Oracle Classic 11g - Home 1 group.
Inside you'll find a shortcut for Configure Classic Instance --- run it.
At Step 2 of the configuration tool, choose "Configure for Development"
At Step 10, you will start the process of creating Weblogic's "Classic Domain" for Forms and Reports 11g R2.
It may take 5 minutes or so to create ClassicDomain. This is the most memory sensitive part of the entire process.
The wrong configuration will cause the wizard to hang or fail on the "Create Domain" step.
If you're not seeing any checkmarks (or the progress indicator still shows 0% ) after 10 minutes, then you should cancel and get help. ( support.oracle.com )
    Sixth, Reboot recommended.

  • Installation of Oracle 9i on Redhat Linux 7.3

    Hi.
I'm trying to install oracle 9i on Redhat Linux an facing some problems. To start with I had no problem in installing and creating the database, The listener.ora and tsnname.ora files created are similar to what i have on windows 2000( Since i was not able to make oracle working on linux, i tried installing on windows, so as to check and create database for temporary work.), But when i go to the console and type the commands: sqlplus /nolog it says bash: sqlplus:command not found.
    2. When i try clicking sqlplus executable file in the bin directory, i get a message that 'Could'nt find the program'.
    3. Where can i find the bash_profile file.
4.I'm able to run the database configuration assistant and create new databases without any error.
I would appreciate if some one can help me out. Also are there any special commands, for this is my first experience on linux.
    Thanks
    Pranav

If your shell is bash (which I guess it is) you need to set the environment variables either per user in a file called ~/.bash_profile (probably /home/oracle/.bash_profile) or globally by making a file /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
you can list .files with ls -la
for now you can either type /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/sqlplus or type
    export PATH=${PATH}:/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin
to add oracle to the path in your current session

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Here I am using Java Type IV for database
    connection.
So,there was no necessity of creating DNS.How your app communicates with db shouldn't matter for the end user. Still, you may want to use a functional network name also for the thin client driver connection string.
So,is there any other way to solve this problem. What is the problem really? Do you not use dns for network naming? Maybe you have to manage the hosts file on every client then.

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and am a very new user to Mac community only started to use this PC a few weeks ago.
My Mac is just hanging and I am unable to shut it down or do anything at all.  I left it for 2.5 days hoping the battery will run flat but it is not working. Pls help! I am desperate. Tx

In order to resolve the issue if it occurs again, more info would be helpful as to what occurred prior to the "hang." One potential fix would be to try a Safe Boot:
After the Mac is completely shut down, push the power button and immediately after the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
There should be a message that says "SafeBoot." After the Mac is completely booted, try restarting and see if the issue is gone.

  • Oracle Universal Installer (10.1.0.4) Hangs

I am trying to remove 'Oracle Application Server - Reports and Forms Services' using Oracle Universal Installer (10.1.0.4)
    OS: Windows XP professional
    folder: c:\oracle\FRHome_1
The uninstaller hangs and progress remains 0%.
Kindly let me know how to remove the software.

Are you trying to remove the specific components? or are you trying to remove the whole installation? Well bear in mind that removing a component is not as easy as removing it from the OUI, this has also been registered against the Identity Management (IM), so you must de-register it first, prior to attempt to remove it. If you just deinstall it, the OID will still be aware it has the component and you won't be able to reinstall it.
Proceeding directly to remove regedit entries without considering the previously recommendations may leave your installation corrupted and you may have to reinstall your Infrastructure (IS) and your Middle Tier (MT)
