Plugin : Prevent document close by close icon

Hi,
I m using Indesign CS3 on MAC OS.
I need to know how to prevent a document from being closed if the user clicks on the close icon ("X") on the upper right corner of the document window Or disable that close icon.
I found that IDocFileHandler.h is used in CS2 for this purpose.
Can the same be used here? Can someone guide me thro this...
I m able to disable close menu but i want to disable the close button.
Is there any other way of doing this?
Which header file to use?
Please someone guide...

I m quite confused...
Someone pls help...
Should i use IDocHandler or should i use a documentSignalResponder???
I m new to plugin development... I ve tried working with dialogs and controls...but have no idea about this...
Pls guide me...

    Yes, but why would you want to? they don't take power, don't use data, and launch quicker if you don't close them. See: http://speirs.org/blog/2012/1/2/misconceptions-about-ios-multitasking.html

  • How to move the Firefox 'close window' x icon to the right-hand corner?

    I've just been given the option to upgrade my Ubuntu Linux (from Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx). Although the updated colour scheme and Fire fox look great, one annoyance is that the 'close window' X-icon has moved from the right-hand corner to the left-hand corner.
    As a right-handed person, my mouse pointer drifts over to the right-hand side of windows, so moving this icon from the right corner to the left corner doesn't make sense to me, as a right-handed person (~90% of the world are right-handed?).
    I know that there's almost definitely a keyboard shortcut for 'close window' but I would like to see the 'Close window' 'x' back in the right-hand corner, or an option/preference to put it back where it always used to be! (as far as I know...).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == When I upgraded Firefox to 3.6.3 as part of Ubuntu upgrade from KK to LL release. Think I might have been running an older 3.6.x version of Firefox prior to this.

    This problem is not particular to Firefox but rather a design scheme that is applied to all programs running Lucid Lynx.
    Solution 1.
    Go to System > Preferences > Appearance. Choose a Theme that has the right orientation rather than the left.
    Solution 2.
    Open up a Terminal and run this snippet to move everything to the right again:
    gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout --type string menu:minimize,maximize,close

  • How do I convert an excel (2008) document to Numbers?  When I drag the Excel document onto the Numbers icon I get, "Import error.  The file format is invalid"

    How can I convert an Excel (2008) document to Numbers.  When I drag the Excel document onto the Numbers icon I get, "Import error.  The file format is invalid.

    That extension identifies the most current Excel file format, a format that can be opened by Numbers '09 (and by Numbers '08).
    A check with Numbers '09 shows it capable of opening .xlsx files when right-clicked (and Numbers chose as the application to open, when double-clicked (if Numbers has been set as the default application to open this type of file, or when dragged to the Numbers icon in the dock.
    I see two possibilities for Numbers inability to open it and the message you receive:
    1. The file is not actually an Excel file, and the sender has added the .xlsx extension to the filename manually.
    2. The file is an Excel file, but has somehow been corrupted.
    Have you tried opening the file with a different application? The open source Office suites, OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice and NeoOffice can also open .xlsx files. If they're unable to open this one, that would point toward the file itself being faulty. You can download these applications from their rspective websites, linked in the names above. All request a donation to support future development, but only Neo requires one to have been made recently, and that only for the current release (which won't be necessary to open .xlsx files).

    Barry

  • How close is close enough?

    How close is close enough?
    I'm wondering how close is close enough, when trying to match our vendor's colors.
    We have been tasked with matching our vendor who is matching towards Gracol.
    Our vendor has previously been fairly out of spec with their gray balance being overall too red, but they are moving much closer to the Gracol standard.
    We have been using our HP z3100 to match their proof outputs. So far, after having them run out a target for me to profile and match, I now have a Delta E of 1.88 average when comparing our P2P25 G7 target output to theirs.
    Our deep blues and dark Magentas however, are about a max of 7 Delta E off of theirs.
    Comparing their proof sheet to ours is visually very close. It's just in the deep blues where their colors have a slight magenta cast to them.
    My concern is that we are matching our vendor's representation of Gracol and we don't have a real third party P2P25 target from a tightly controlled press sheet for verification as to who is closer to the standard.
    The vendor might be a little too red, but we might be a little too gray balanced. Our three color gray might be too neutral.
    I'm using a spectro with Profilemaker Measure tool for comparing Delta E. I'm also using no RIP, just custom profiles through the RGB printer's internal RIP which doesn't give me much, if any adjustments for calibrating linearity.
    Our company is willing to buy a dedicated RIP so that we can match the vendor better, but my concern is that we might not get much better than the Delta E of 1.88 that we have now, and if we're going to spend that extra $15k, I want to make sure we will be closer.
    There is also the possibility that we can "toy-with" the printer using different paper settings to get a better match to the vendor's linearity by choosing a paper setting which gets us closer to theirs.
    The real main difficulties are trying to speak color management to the people who make the cost decisions and have no comprehension of what we're talking about.
    Does anyone have thoughts on whether I'm doing it the difficult way, or should a new RIP make it easier for us?

    I take it you do not own the HPz3100ps/GP? The gray balance could be critical, especially when you are trying to match a particular color. It would be nice if you spoke about your vendor's printer/proofer. The HP is a 12-cartridge photographic inkjet printer and, often times, a photograph's color gamut is going to be much wider than a graphic arts typical offset press. If their proof is showing warmer grays, then it could be their color gamut is not as wide as yours. I'm not sure which version of the z3100 you're using, but I do know that the z3100ps/GP is a very accurate proofer and because it has an internal spectrometer and RIP, it can calibrate without you having to put out more cash for a third party RIP. If you have the basic z3100, then perhaps you should look at a third party RIP ( you can probably get an upgrade through HP ).

  • HT4211 I would like clarification on the official intended usage of the multi-tasking switcher.  Specifically, should apps be regularly closed (minus bubble) out of this list, or is the close feature closer to OS X's force quit.

    I would like clarification on the official intended usage of the multi-tasking switcher.  Specifically, should apps be regularly closed (minus bubble) out of this list, or is the close feature closer to OS X's force quit.

    It is not really necessary to close apps from there. It is more like a recently used apps list. You can close them from there if a problem occurs with the app, and there are only a few apps that will remain running when you close them with the Home button. You can see information about the multi-tasking bar in the User Guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf

    Yes.

  • Slow ResultSet.close() & Statement.close()

    Hi, JDBC Team.
    I use thin JDBC driver.
    Sometimes Statement.close() , ResultSet.close() , ResultSet.next() (for last record) methods runs VERY slow. Pauses appear on oracle.jdbc.ttc7.Oclose.receive() (while reading from socket?).
    Thanks

    You mentioned that you explicitly closed your resultsets and statements...BUT you did not say anything about the connection objects that are associated with the resultsets and statements. It also matters that you do this in the finally{} section of your try/catch/finally, since that would ensure that these resources ALWAYS get released.

  • (06 Oct 14) updated firefox and Kaspersky, now have problems with Barclays site - firefox "not responding" and plugin error on trying to close. Help!

    Updated Kaspersky to 15.0.0.463(a) - ( comes with "safe money" - now turned off).
    Updated Firefox from (old) version to 32.0.3.
    Barclays bank site loads properly, and allows access to accounts BUT when I try to look at a statement, Firefox "not responding" and a blank/ unresponsive page is displayed.
    In order to acheive any movement I have to close firefox... this gives rise to windows wanting to send error data, and Firefox apologising for loosing the tab.
    None of which allows me to do essential banking transactions.
    It is this machine that has the problem - I can access without problems via work computer (using google Chrome)

    My guess is that your statement is a PDF document, since banks and other companies often use that format for statements.
    Firefox has various options for viewing PDFs, including a built-in PDF viewer (not as full featured as Adobe's), or the option to use a plugin such as Adobe Acrobat, or to launch the PDF in an external application. This article describes how to experiment with that setting: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
    On another subject, your plugin list has various plugins described as "Google Chrome Extension". I haven't seen that before. Could you review the list and see whether they really should be active in Firefox or can be deactivated?
    Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Plugins.
    For those that are not essential, I suggest changing them to "Never Activate". This might not take effect immediately in that window, but should disable them in new windows.

  • AI plugin: When I try to close the file( not Illustrator), after I save, I've to close it manually.

    HI All,
    I use AI plugin- custom defined. When I try to close any AI file after I edit(without saving it), it gives me a pop-up saying "Save changes to AI document "xxxx.ai" before closing?" with three options- Yes, No or Cancel. If I click on "No" or "Cancel" it behaves normally(as expected) and when I click on "yes", it saves the file but doesn't close it. I have to close the file again, which is not the expected behavior. Please help me....

    This isn't an answer to your question, but rather some general debugging tips to use with the Illustrator API.
    First of all, almsot every API call returns an AIErr value.
    You can start to debug this code with
    AIErr error=kNoErr;
    AIDocumentHandle doc;
    error = sAIDocument->GetDocument(&doc);
    if(error)
      //There was a problem in the GetDocument call.  Inspect the value of 'error' to see which error it reports.
    error = sAIDocumentList->Close(doc);
    if(error)
      //There was a problem in the Close call.  Inspect the value of 'error' to see which error it reports.
    I wouldn't recommend it except when debugging because the API may change between versions, but the Handle classes are all pointers, so you can initialize them to zero.  Then, you should be able to see if GetDocument is changing doc and whether your error is from using -> with an uninitialized pointer.

  • Some 3rd party plugins "turn off" when I close their window?!

    Hey guys,
    This is really weird. I run the latest version of Logic 9 on both my studio i% iMac AND my older, core 2 duo MBP. Here's the scoop.
    I'm demo'ing some 3rd party plugs and when the plug in window (GUI) is open, the plug works great. If I hit key command "v" to hide the window (although it's still technically "open") no problem. If I CLOSE the GUI by clicking the close icon, the plugin turns off totally, even though it still displays as an active insert on the channel.
    Here's the kicker...THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON MY iMAC Running Snow leopard (I'm suspecting this is the issue). My Laptop, running the same logic version, but on the older OSX does not experience the same issue.
    Any ideas on how to resolve? It's not the end of the world, but it sure is a pain in the a**.

    Hmm, I've never heard of this.
    If it only happens on one system, try trashing the preferences. You could have a conflicting key command assignment or something...

  • Dropbox Document won't Close

    Running Dropbox v 2.1.1 on my original iPad (iOS 5.1.1)
    Have a series of password protected PDFs in my dropbox - scans of passport, driver's license etc
    When I open one, no problem until I try to close the document - unable to do so.
    It remains open (& unprotected) on my iPad even if I quit DropBox (Hit the Home Button).
    And on reopenong Dropbox, it is still open.
    Unable to open any bars beneath the document to access a close function.
    On my Iphone, the document closes when you tap on the Left-Arrow Dropbox icon at the top of the screen.
    There is no such icon on the iPad version.
    Appreciate any tips!
    ...John
    PS  When I open DropBox on my iPhone or Mac Pro, the document is not open - remains protected in the folder.

    Did you ever get an answer to this question ? I know its been over a year since posted. But I too have the same question. The only way to close is to sign off the program on the iPad. And maybe tat is what they intended. Thanks

  • Pages 09 document; open and close many times; right way with Lion?

    I have a 106 page document that increases in size on a daily basis. With OS 10.7, iWork/Pages 09 on my new, iMac, it's common that I lose as much as two sentences after the document is closed and re opened. After 10.7 was installed the document was closed using Command - S, and subsequently closed by pulling down File and selecting Close. - Not the way to close; the red button was so easy with 10.6. IS UNINSTALLING LION THE BEST SOLUTION?
    And yes, I've read the sorry jibberish in the Pages 09 manual - which doesn't say how to open and close repeatedly a document with Pages 09.
    So, with the Lion - the worst ever of spending $30, is it necessary to do a Command S every time you close? And what exactly is necessary each time you close a document using Pages 09 and Lion? - And about Auto Save; well, what about Auto Save? - The Lion means well for something other than common, understandable, text production.  -- How about a separate application of Appleworks for text producers like me?

    The red button is always available under 10.7 (or 10.7.1)
    Under 10.7, press cmd + S once when you create the document.
    After that, the system automatically save your changes.
    No need for cmd + S.
    To close the document we may use :
    the red button
    cmd + W
    File > Close
    as it was with older systems.
