PNG graphics, all 3 types, accepted in all browsers?

I've read, and in this forum, that PNG files for simple
graphics is the way to go (no more GIFs, though adobe is using them
in the layout of this forum!). In DW CS3, there are 3 types of PNG
file formats: PNG 8, PNG 24, and PNG 32. Do any browsers have
trouble with these? Thanks.

Correct. PNG is superior to GIF in every aspect except for
animations.

The only real problem is alpha-transparency in IE 6 and
below, but
workarounds exist if you should need them.
Personally I don't care that much anymore, as long as the
pages are
usable. Usually I can live with little PNG glitches in old
browsers.

  • Uploading pdf, jpg or png crashes ALL browsers, HELP!

Trying to upload pdfs to my work website has proved impossible without crashing the browser. This is killing me, my company is desperate for this to be resolved.
So far I have used Safari, Firefox, Camino and Opera to try to isolate the problem. ALL browsers crash when trying to upload.
It works flawlessly on my G5 Quad running 10.5.8... but my MacBook Pro — used all the time off-site — is currently a $3,000 doorstop right now.
My job is working online. Without this basic functionality I am totally screwed.
How can I downgrade to 10.5 anyone?

I am having the same problem on my iMac running OS 10.6.1: browsers (particularly, Safari) crash when trying to upload photos...several apps (Adobe CS3 apps, MS Office apps, and many more) crashing when trying to save a document or image.
    VERY ANNOYING.
I did some troubleshooting / tests with the help of an apple care specialist:
1)booting in safe mode and trying to upload a photo: Safari crashed.
2)same but with a different user account: problem did not occur.
3)verifying permissions resulted in a thread of some 20-30 adobe flash warnings, but repairing them did not solve the problem.
4)genius at the store looked at the crashes and suggested deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist and if that does not work do a clean install of the OS.
Below is the crash report. I'm getting this several times a day....
Has anybody found a solution to this problem? I will greatly appreciate any help.

  • Help needed, corrupted graphics all system

    Hello
I need help, I have a mac pro 2008, and since some time I am experiencing corrupted graphics all over the system. The computer starts operating properly, suddenly, and looks like when I start using graphics intensice application, such as after effects, I get graphics corrupted on finder, pictures, the programs etc to a point where not even thumbnails show up properly. Restarting solves the problem however not for long.
Now I now this theoretically and the most obvious answer "is the graphic card" however I have changed the whole computer, different mac, different and new graphics card and I get the same problem. Even the RAM is different however the problem persist. The only thing that was carried from the older mac was the hard drives. The OS is the latest version of 10.10 and this problem was also with the earlier 2 versions, mountain lion and Mavericks.
Please look at the screenshots I am providing, evidently this is a software issue otherwise it would have been fixed after I changed mac.
Anybody has any idea what the problem could be?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, but the thing is that those corrupter graphics also make it onto a video that I do, for example. so its not a screen issue, you see what I mean? like 2 days ago I was making a video in after effects and premiere and those corrupted issues made it onto the rendered video, the pixelated things.

If i backspace everything and start typing again in the same area, it will work properly the second time.
I am using a ~7 month old macbook air with mavericks.
Any tips to get rid of this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test will take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

OK it's now fast............but for me that's all at present.
I tried all browsers, ended with firefox & chrome, preferred firefox but it is updated badly too many times causing me to have to re-install on many occasions, very time consuming.
The last update also hanged my PC resolution viewing type, it became even more blurred on every program on my PC.
The previous version was acceptable. I now intend to use chrome more often & maybe uninstall firefox for good.
?security updates, are these likely to affect my PC performance in any way?

  • Excel 2013 save as JPG/PNG graphic format?

    Dear All,
For Excel 2013, is it possibe to save the sheet in JPG or PNG graphic file?

    Hi,
Currently, Excel 2013 doesn't have the ability to save a sheet as an image.
The simplest way to accomplish this is to select and copy the worksheet cells containing the data, chart, etc. you want to save as an image (turn off grid lines if you don’t want them too), then paste it into your graphics editor, say Microsoft Paint.
Now you will be able to save it as any graphic formats as you want by using
Save as feature in Microsoft Paint.

  • Images not loading across all browsers on certain websites, help!

    == Issue
    ==
Firefox is having problems with certain web sites
    == Description
    ==
When browsing college humor and Gawker network sites, and also occasionally google and forbidden planet, images don't load correctly. This happens across all browsers but I feel firefox may be the root of the problem. This happens on both computers which share my firefox profile, and doesn't affect others in my house such as my iPod Touch.
Any ideas? I really want to sort this out.

    Cambrey,
that HTML content shows that there’s no content at that Web site — it will only show the heading “301 Moved Permanently” and the single line “nginx/1.2.6”. I suspect that they might have wanted to include a redirection directive in that document, but for some reason, they didn’t. Your browsers are behaving as they ought to do with this Web site.
Have you considered trying www.sundancechannel.fr in your browsers instead of sundancechannel.fr?

  • Nav Bar disappears in live view and in all browsers

    Hello all,
I have an issue I haven't had before. I created a navigation bar right under the header.  After adding my text for the links, I checked in all browsers and each time, the nav bar disappeared, leaving me with just the words. Also the font changed back to the page default. I solved the font problem by creating images using the font I want and now I get them all to show up, but the nav bar is still missing even though it is always there in Design View. Here is my code so far. The CSS is below the HTML.

  • Flash 11.1 runs only in Software mode in all browsers

    Hi,
I have a problem that the Flash player runs only in Software mode in all browsers.
I have the following notebook: Dell Vostro 3350 with dual graphics (Intel HD Graphics integrated and AMD Radeon HD 6490M dedicated), the OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
The driver version that is in the device manager is the following: 8.840.7.3000 (I've made sure to have installed the latest driver from Dell)
The hardware acceleration radio button in the Flash settings is on, of course.
The funny thing is that in the Flash 11 Incubator program DirectX rendering was working properly, the problems have started since the RC version of Flash 11.
    Can you help me somehow?
    Many thanks,
    CapKosmaty

    Hey guys, I'm unburying this thread; I've waited a bit, hoping that an update would put my model from the blacklist, but there's no change;
Here's my dxdiag log: (could it be that Flash has problems with switchable graphics? I run different retail games, like Star Wars: The Old Republic recently, and they run perfectly on the Radeon HD 6490M)
    again, I'm grateful for help!

  • Quicktime Pro - Importing PNG graphics as Logo for Video fails...

    Hey guys,
I am using the latest Quicktime on PPC. I have a video, created of several PNG graphics, and saved as Quicktime Video.
Now I want to add a small Logo on the upper right corner. For that, I use a graphic-file in PNG format, using the Alpha layer. So all that should be visible is the Logo itself.
I did it according to the Quicktime7UserGuide.pdf:
Open Logo.png in Preview, copy, switch to QT, Select All, Add to Selection and Scale.
Well, the graphics is added to the movie, but as a black square, the size of the bounding box of my PNG (and not the shape of the Logo itself).
Tuning around with all the Adjustments I found in MovieProperties didn't work. I also recreated the Logo in Photoshop (instead of Gimp), just to make sure that's not the problem.
The Alpha Layer is correctly (not) displayed in Preview.
    Ideas? Appreciate it...

Yep. Some ideas for your graphic "import" to Quicktime.
Use the QuickTime Pro)) "Import" or "Open in new player" to open your graphic. Once opened Command-A (select all) and Copy (Command-C) switch to your QuickTime file and select a portion (or all) of your video. Command-V (to paste) or chose Add to Selection & Scale.
Default is the upper left most location. You can edit this via the Movie Properties window.
Once pasted you need to set the properties of this individual track. Choose your track and use the movie properties window to set them to size and location and the set the "Visual Settings" to adjust the "transparency" level and its presentation settings.
I've added .png files to many of my "movies" without any errors.

  • Slow webpage loading on all browsers

    Hi,
I have the problem that webpages tend to load extremely slow on all browsers under the latest Mountain Lion on a Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012. I say tend, because sometimes pages load instantly, but very often it takes minutes to open or a page loads only partially. So there is some random element of surprise mixed in. The problem exists on all browsers I have on my system. It does not on my Windows laptop. I have tried anything I could find on the web that is even remotely related to this issue. I will just list, what I have tried so far:
    1) I have deleted my wireless connection under network preferences and setup a new one.
    2) I have tested other DNS servers, Google's amongst then (8.8.8.8).
    3) I have deactivated DNS prefetching on Safari.
    4) I have tested Chrome and Internet Explorer (via VMware Fusion).
    5) I have done several speed tests with two ISPs.
    6) I have tested the disk permission verification and repair tip.
    7) I have tested a different wireless router as well as different wireless standards (g vs n).
    8) I ran a traceroute which turned out fine.
    9) I have tested several FTP severs. The problem seems to be isolated to HTTP browsing.
Can't think of anything else I have tested, but that should cover most of it. I do not want to setup a new system and postpone the issue. I want to find the cause of this.
Maybe anyone can help we resolve this issue.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Built a website to work on all Browsers (fire/Saf/IE), but now IE is moving the content and Nav?

I have just built a website, ensuring that it works on all browsers, firefox, safari, and IE (I believe the newest IE) When I built my first page it worked on all browsers except IE, (the content and Navigation would drastically move to the left) so I rebuilt it and checked everything on IE and it was fine, when it happened on other pages I again would rebuild it and it would be fine. I had it posted under my personal domain the entire time so I could see what it truly would look like. When it was done everything was basically fine. BUT, when I deleted it from my domain and moved it to the actual domain several of the pages would once again show up with this problem, the Navigation  and and content moving to the left only on IE of course?
Can someone suggest if there is something in my code that shouldn't be there that is causing this? or something that I need to add to help the site In IE?
    the domain is www.harmonyhealthalberta.ca
In need of help with this one??
    Thanks!

You have painted yourself into a box of determinate height by using a single background image.  When text size is increased in browser (zoom, text only), the page becomes a bit of a mess.
A better approach would be to slice your design comp into sections or image slices and apply those to the various areas in your page.  #header, #navigation, #mainContent, #footer, etc...
The other advice I offer is to use CSS instead of tables for layout.  CSS is much more flexible and it allows you to make global site changes by editing one external stylesheet file instead of re-coding the entire site. See CSS Zen Garden for some awesome examples of this -- http://www.csszengarden.com/

A sample of menu code that calls a report looks like this...
         <asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server" Target="Body" NavigateUrl="~/Reports/FormFullImplant.aspx" Text="Full Implant" />
The code on the these pages gets the data for the report and redirects to another page that contains a Crystal Reports Viewer to display the report.
The menu has around 15 different reports that the user can run.
When running the application in Visual Studio, everything works correctly. Changing reports "refreshes" the Body frame with a new viewer and a new
report. However, moving the application over to the user's server, running the first report works correctly. Then, everything else (reports, forms, etc.) in the application open up in new tabs as opposed to displaying in the Body frame. This happens with all browsers.
Is this an application problem, a server problem, or something else? Any suggestions are welcome

  • Browser problem.(All browsers across users)

    Hi,
I have a really annoying problem through all browsers I have installed(Chrome, Firefox 5 and Safari), and I really have tried so much to fix it.
Basically the problems are with examples...
http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php - on this site nothing happens when I click login/sign up in the corner or when i use search, it's all glitched.
http://www.fileserve.com/file/h7PVh6Y/3DTotal-Lighting.La.Ruelle.3ds.Max.MentalR ay%26VRay.by_instantloader.rar - here I can't click on log in again, the countdown doesn't start when I try free downloader and other buttons do nothing also.
    last example
http://www.geocaching.com/ - where it says enter your postal, location, etc...that stays when it should just disappear when i go to type in it, and when I do get my location typed it won't search anyway.
so any ideas whats the problem here? none of these are issues on my macbook, just the imac, really irritating. i think it could be some java thing i have to delete somewhere, but i can't find it, someone told me to go /library/caches but nothing was there anyway
    cheers guys

I didn't have any problems with those sites with Snow Leopard v10.6.7 / Safari 5.0.5 or Firefox 3.6.6.
When you experience problems with multiple browsers on more then one user account, it's time to check the startup disk.
From your admin account, launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities.
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab.
Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • All browsers freeze in Mavericks

Ever since i've moved from Mountain Lion to Mavericks i'm having major problems with all browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Chromium). They all freeze for 4-5 seconds, and this happens every 1-2 minutes. This happens on every pages i visit, even on 'light' websites like google.com.
I've tried updating all browsers, updating the plugins, disabling all plugins, closing all other running programs but the problem is still there.
I installed a fresh copy of Mountain Lion just to see if i had the same problem, but all browsers worked fine. This happens only on Mavericks.
Can someone please help me with this? I dont want to go back to Mountain Lion again

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot insafe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.
Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
