Podcasts show up on ipod in music folder

how can i keep podcasts from appearing in my music folder on my ipod??
they go into both the podcast folder AND the music floder.
thx

I have a somewhat similar problem.
In iTunes (on windows xp), I have set up the podcasts tab of my ipod to have the "sync" box unchecked.
This seems to me that it would NOT sync my podcasts which is what I want... music is better anyways.
However,
When I go into my ipod nano 2nd gen, the podcasts folder is not in music (GOOD SO FAR). When I go to music, sort by genre, and choose "podcast" my podcasts are there and can play... therefore they are taking up space (and not even showing up in the front door).
Anyone else able to re-create this? Any fixes?

  • How can I move my iPod iTunes Music Folder from C: drive to a New Drive?

Running out of space on my PC's C: drive, so I tried moving all the folder to my new E: drive ie: (E:\My Music 2\iTunes).
ALSO set iTunes (Edit/Preferences/Advanced/iTunes Music Folder location to E:\My Music 2\iTunes - but nothing seems to help!)
All of the files couldn't find the source files, unless I pointed to them one by one.
Can't move them all back because they are about 7GB+, and I now only have about 5.5 GB on my C: drive.
And when I just went to open iTunes again, all my libraries don't even show.
I'm afraid to plug in my ipod for synching until I get this straight, for fear of messing that up too.
    Please advise.

To move your iTunes music to an external drive...
    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Move the entire iTunes folder including music to
    the external drive.
In point #2 do you mean move the entire Program File folder of iTunes or just the "My Documents" iTunes library folder?
I have a full laptop, a big iPod and an external HD, I am trying to figure out how to store my library on the HD, but access it as if it were on the laptop.
I moved my iTunes library to the HD and then in iTunes I used the "add folder to library" function, but it brought all of the song files back onto the laptop.
How do you iPod gurus configure your setup with comp, HD and iPod? I need some guidance, my methods are not working.

  • Podcasts show up on iPod but not in iTunes

My (old) podcasts show up on my iPod, but they don't appear in iTunes. I can't delete those podcasts and I really want to throw them away. Could somebody help me?!

Are you positive these podcasts are configured to sync to your iPod Touch? Have you double checked the configuration for podcasts from under the iPod's Podcasts configuration tab in iTunes?
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab.  Locate the Podcasts tab along the top and select it. Here you can choose how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.

  • Why don't podcasts show up on ipod shuffle menu?

Under What's on this ipod it correctly says Music and Books but not Podcasts, even though a) I don't have any Books selected and b) I do have Podcasts set to sync automatically.
When I select Sync, I can see the Podcast episodes being transfered to my Ipod but they don't show up anywhere in any of the menus.

I just checked my iPod and they aren't there either. But they are there in the calendar. A little annoying if you have to look up some one in particular but you can see who's birthday is coming up that month.

  • Podcast show up on iPod uninvited

All my podcasts are copied to my iPod, if I set them to or not. Once on the iPod, they are not readily available. I have to dive into genres or playlist to find them.
Unlike all the other similar issue I read on here, if I set a podcast to sync, it works fine on the iPod, while podcasts set not to sync continue to take up space.
I just started dealing with podcasts, so I have no idea if this is a new issue. Any suggestions

I assume you mean Leonard Cohen Live from the Beacon Theatre, Feb 27. I've just downloaded it and it is now on my iPod, so this suggests it's not the Podcast itself.
Is this the first time you have added Podcasts? If so, it sounds as though you simply haven't carried out the correct steps in the correct order.
Also, what do you mean by "I checked sync selected"? If this is your first Podcast addition, do you mean/have you:
    1. connected the iPod to iTunes
    2. switched to the Podcasts pane and checked (put a tick-in-the-box) to *Sync /<XX> /episodes of /all podcasts* (or whichever episodes you want)
    3. clicked the Sync button after steps 1 & 2?
You will only have to select these options for syncing Podcasts once, after that they will be as you want them at every Sync.

  • Why would files that are in my iTunes Music folder not show up in iTunes?

Downloaded emusic.com files show up in my iTunes Music folder like usual, but iTunes doesn't seem to detect them. Then, each time I quit iTunes I receive a problem report saying iTunes quit unexpectedly.  Help?

iTunes is a data base manager and as noted needs a reference.
If I am adding tunes not purchased from the iTS then I d/l to a folder on my Desk Top then as noted 'Add to Library'.
I also have the iTunes prefs>Advanced>copy .... option enabled. This way iTunes will copy the tune into iTunes and then you can delete the Desk Top copy.

  • ITunes' Library "populating' Purchased Music folder

It seems all of the music I've copied off of CDs has migrated from my iTunes Library folder and now shows up in the 'Purchased' music folder. Those items that have been purchased show up twice. I'm hesitent to 'delete' anything from the Purchased folder for fear of losing music.
    1. Why/how did this happen?
    2. How can it be resolved?

  • No songs show up in Owner's iPod when i remove them from the Music folder..

i also had another problem, that i was able to fix, with my wireless keyboard and mouse. whenever i removed the Shuffle from the USB connector, the lights on my keyboard and mouse remote would go out, and my keyboard and mouse would disconnect. also, the screen would turn gray, and i would have to hold the power butten down on the PC to get it to shut down. i changed the USB port i was using for the Shuffle, and that seemed to fix it, but i think that it's wierd that i moved my iPod Mini to that USB port and it doesn't do that when i remove it. anyway, i changed USB ports, and it works fine now, but i don't think it's a problem on my end because my iPod Mini works fine in that port. i think it's a software bug with the Shuffle...

Explanation: iTunes "updates" Shuffle each time it's connected. IF the Shuffle contains songs NOT in iTunes' library, they are removed from the Shuffle. THAT is the way it works.

  • My podcasts show up as music in my iPod

When my iPod (5th generation) is synched with iTunes, all my podcasts are correctly sorted separately both in my library and iPod. But when I eject and browse through my Ipod, my podcasts show up both under 'podcasts' and under 'music'. How do I organise them so they are not filed under music?

I have a similar question although I'm looking for the opposite outcome. I want to know how tracks are identified as either a podcast, audiobook or music as well. I want to take episodes of podcasts and take them out of the podcast category and put them into the music or audiobooks category instead. Hopefully someone will be able to answer this for both of us!

Have yu tried resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.

button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Manually Transfer Podcasts - Don't Show Up in iPod "Podcast" Area

Here's the scenario. My wife and I each have iPod Shuffles for use at the gym, etc... We each have our own computer and different iTunes libraries. For our anniversary, I bought her (us) an 80gb w/video. The thought was that we'd share both of our music libraries here along with videos/podcasts for us to use when we traveled (separately or together).
I've found that the best/easiest way for us to manage the iPod's library is to set it up for manual management. This was after doing a lot of searching forums on managing between two computers... unless that's changed, then no worries there.
My wife took a trip a couple of months ago and downloaded some individual podcasts (not subscribing) into her computer, from iTunes, and transferred them into the 80gb iPod for watching on the plane. They're in the Podcast section as expected. I'm taking a trip in a week and downloaded some additional podcasts from iTunes, and also did not subscribe to them. I did a drag and drop into the 80gb, but I couldn't find them looking through iTunes and through the iPod itself - except through the recently added files folder.
The only place I can find them is in the "Recently Added" folder, but that won't last long. So now that I've "found" the podcasts, how do I get them libraried (is that a real word?) into my Podcast section of my iPod? They do reside in the Podcast section of the iTunes program. I have version 7.2.0.35 of iTunes if that matters.
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know if this will help, but I was experiencing the same problem. Searching the discussions didn't help other than to confirm that I was not alone. So, I started poking around.
    Background
I had been manually copying podcasts to iPod. Noticed this weekend new podcasts weren't showing up under podcasts, some did show up under music, and videos weren't showing up at all.
    My Solution:
selected iPod device. Selected Podcasts. Selected sync. (wasn't syncing before). choose a couple podcasts to sync. Clicked apply. podcasts synced. wiped out all my existing podcasts but the new ones showed up. Still no videos though. Chose Movies. chose sync. Got message something like "The iPod "<my iPod>" is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library." I chose no (cancel), because I didn't want to wipe everything out without thinking about it.
Now Podcasts and videos show up on the iPod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Video files in music folder on iPod

I don't know why, but when I updated my firmware and iTunes version, my old video files show up under the music folder. New videos go into the correct folder, but I can't seem to move the old files into the movies folder.
Anybody know how to fix this?

It's odd, isn't it? I also have a Classic iPod, and on that, the Podcasts do not appear in the Music menu. On the 5th gen, Podcasts are listed as part of the music menu and appear under songs, albums genres etc. etc., on the classic they are not!
You're not alone with this concern, but every new update to the 5th gen iPod fails to correctly fix these issues! Perhaps whoever (at Apple) is responsible for this on the 5th gen iPod should have a look at the Classic! Or at least assign someone who uses Podcasts to look at the way the 5th gen handles them.
By the way, if you are like me and use shuffle songs on your iPod, the Podcasts are (usually) marked *skip when shuffling* when you get them from the iTunes Store (as opposed to getting them through ipodder or similar and importing them into iTunes). So when I listen to music on shuffle, the Podcasts do not play.
I know that's not really the solution - I have to wade through episodes of Podcasts trying to identify a piece of music from a Podcast episode in the *Music/songs, artists albums* menus. The problem is reporting it to Apple in a way that makes them realise what we mean and not simply to misunderstand and then dismiss our concerns as something they have already fixed.
So in answer to your question, I don't think you can get them to only show up in the Podcasts folder/menu, but if anyone else can throw light on this, I'll give it a try and be prepared to eat my words. (Yum yum!)

  • Two iPods, Two sets of ratings, one music folder?

Here’s something which I’ve been failing to do, and about which I and can’t find any appropriate info in any forums. It seems like a very obvious thing to want to do…
We have one computer and two iPods. Most of our Playlists are ratings-driven. Eg. “500 3+star tracks that haven’t been played this month”. My girlfriend rates music differently to me. I don’t want her ratings affecting my playlists and visa versa.
The only way (as far as I can tell) to have one file of music and two sets of ratings is to use two libraries. This is achieved by holding down shift when starting iTunes and then choosing whichever library you want before syncing the iPod. So far so good.
The problem is, whenever I add new music I can only add it into one library at a time; the other library knows nothing about it. The same applies if I delete anything (the other library thinks the files still exist). The only way around this is to add/delete twice, which is a faff. Podcasts need to be downloaded twice as well. Also, I think, if I add a CD of music and then go into the other library and try and add it again (or point iTunes to the new mp3 files) it will create duplicates. In any case, it’s a lot of messing about.
So, any ideas on how I can have one big music folder and two iPods with different ratings without doubling my iTunes ‘admin’ time?
Any advice would be graetfully appreciated.

Thanks very much for your reply, but it doesn't look like there's a suitable option for me at the moment. I only want one music folder and I want all music accessible to both users/iPods, just with independent ratings. There appears to be a number of ways of doing this but none without a lot of duplication of effort. I have 95Gb of music which is constantly being added to and deleted from as buy new music and remove duplicates etc. I put a fair amount of time into refining ratings and playlists in order to improve the quality of the stuff I listen to and I don't want to start making lists of the things I add/delete and then have to log into another iTunes session to repeat the exercise. It seems a shame that iTunes can't offer a practical solution to the notion that two people might have slightly (not completely) different tastes in music. I'm certain this sort of thing will have to be looked at in future, especially now there are plenty of iPod families out there.
Thanks again to all of the above for your replies.

  • Itunes 7.5 not syncing music folder but podcasts sync fine

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can offer some advice. Since upgrading to iTunes 7.5 and Vista, I've noticed that my iPod classic and iTunes are no longer syncing the Music folder in my library. I've been able to repeat the following behavior:
    - music files purchased from the iTunes store do not automatically update my iPod. I can, however, drag those files to my iPod manually.
    - music files from non-CD external sources do not automatically update my iPod. I cannot drag those files to my iPod.
    - files in the Podcast folder behave as I would expect. They update my iPod whenever I connect with no intervention required on my part.

I had a similar problem with my iPhone 4S. First time syncing all my music seemed to be transferring. Then, when sync had finished, the iPhone reported that 416 tracks could not be transferred and I should see iTunes for details.
iTunes had no details to give of course and when I tried another sync nothing happened to the tracks that were missing. In fact, when beginning to sync the iPhone would report 11.9GB of music on the phone and then at the end of sync that would drop to 7.3GB, which accounted for the 416 tracks missing.
Also, when I clicked on the phone in the Devices Tab, and opened up the triangular arrow, then clicked music, I could see the missing tracks greyed out and having the sync symbol at the start of the columns.
Eventually I figured out how the fix this. It seems to be something to do with a corruption in the ID tags or the modification dates. I changed the genre of all the affected tracks to 'Other' (they were set as various things before - Other just changed them to something else.. it is the change that is important).
Then all the tracks transferred across fine.
    Weird!
    Hope this helps...
