Podcasts will not play iphone 5 in iOS 8

Using an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.0.2. Podcasts previously downloaded suddenly will not play. The play button is grayed from all sources, as are the 15-sec refresh buttons, both from subscribed podcasts and not-subscribed. I didn't knowingly change a setting, nor did I make any system changes since playing a podcast Wednesday morning and being unable to play one Wednesday night. Same podcasts play fine on my iMac & show as having synced on connection with the iPhone. So what's up?

Thanks for your suggestion, Selena.
The app is fully updated. I even tried to update it again today. I also checked to be sure I had the latest update to iOS 8.0.2, and I do. I'm wondering if I'll have to delete the app, reinstall, then reload all the podcasts I had stored.
I did check to see if the music on my iPhone played, and it plays just fine.
Quite perplexing!

  • MP3 Music will not play after upgrade to ios 5

I upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS 5 yesterday.... Great!
But now when I want to listen to my MP3 from the new "Music" app, the MP3 gets stuck and will not play.
I have audiobooks and videos too and both plays ok with good sound and pictures.
    Can anyone help?

I fixed it by deleting the MP3 and re-loaded / re-sync it back.
It took over 2 hrs as I had over 1000 Mp3.

  • The latest episode of my podcast will not play or download. Everything is clear through the host. What can I do?

    Hello!
I recently created a new podcast and for some reason my latest episode(episode 4) appears in iTunes but will not play or download. The other 3 episodes still work fine and episode 4 seems to be working properly on the host libsyn page and on the website I am posting new episodes on. iTunes is the only thing it does not seem to be playing through. I do run my podcast through a feedburner account before it hits iTunes, but so far have not had any issues. Has anyone had a similar issue?

Feedburner is a pain and causes issues especially with the Podcasts App - plus its future is far from secure.  Google has shut down other services in the past with little warning.
Since you are hosting on libsyn - the best thing you could do is switch over to your libsyn feed.
    http://insidethestrain.libsyn.com/rss
Here is a tutorial on how to redirect from feedburner to your libsyn feed.
    http://lilith.libsyn.com/feedburner-redirect-tutorial
And make sure you turn off any redirects on the libsyn side - you don't want it redirecting back out to the feedburner feed which it appears to be doing.
You want to manage your feed just in your libsyn account.

  • Muse site will not play mp3 files on iOS devices

I'm testing my new/first site using Muse CC 2014 and finding that audio files (MP3) will not play on iOS 7.x devices.I am using the MP3 Player plug-in from Musethemes.com. They have yet to respond to my support request 3 days ago so I am hoping someone here might have encountered the same issue. What alternatives would you suggest?

Never mind everyone. Musethemes got back to me. The issue is the link for each MP3 file points to assets/filename.mp3 in the desktop version but since the tablet and phone versions have their own sub-directories the link needs to properly point to the parent directory where the assets folder is located i.e. ../assets/filename.mp3. On to the next adventure.

  • On-the-go playlist bug when it contains podcasts (will not play them)

    Hello,
I want to report a bug in the iPod Nano 3rd generation. Here are the steps to reproduce, first to check that the playlist works with only songs, and then to see that it does not work with songs and podcasts, and lastly to see that it does not work at all with only podcasts.
    1. Clear the On-the-go playlist.
    2. Add any number of songs to the On-the-go playlist (let's say 3).
    3. Confirm that you can play the playlist by selecting it in the list of playlists and hitting the play button on your iPod. The Now Playing screen should say "1 of 3".
    1. Clear the On-the-go playlist. If it was playing it should now be stopped.
    2. Add any number of songs to the On-the-go playlist (we'll add 3 for now).
    3. Add at least one podcast to the On-the-go playlist.
    4. Highlight the On-the-go playlist in the list of playlists. It should say "4 Songs".
    5. Hit the play button. The Now Playing screen will say "1 of 3". At the end of the third song you will be returned to the Playlists screen without the podcast ever having been played.
    1. Clear the On-the-go playlist.
    2. Add at least one podcast to the On-the-go playlist. We''ll add 2 podcasts.
    3. Go the Playlists screen and highlight the On-the-go playlist. It should say "2 Songs".
    4. Hit the play button. The Now playing screen should show, the songtitle displayed is that of a song that was playing recently. There will be no album art displayed, even if that last songs did have album art associated with it. The screen will say "1 of 0" and there is no sound. There is no play/pause indicator next to the battery indicator. The time indicators are "0:00" and -"0:00" left and right respectively. You can hit the center button and try to scrub the position on the bar, it will not go beyond the time of the last song that was played on the iPod.
Should you reset the iPod and try to play the playlist with only podcasts now, the screen will have no song information, just the missing album art picture and "1 of 0". There is also no time indicators and the bar on the bottom is as wide as the screen minus its normal padding.
If you hit the center button while in the Now Playing screen with the "1 of 0" display, and you then try to scrub the player the iPod will reset.
Can someone confirm this bug? Is there a fix?
I really like to have multiple podcasts in the On-the-go playlist when using Nike+ and now I can't. I don't like to have to reach for my iPod during running to start another podcast, because you have to pause the workout to do that. I don't want to save the playlist, because I won't ever use it again, so I'd just have to remove it again. If it could just work, that'd be great, thanks!

Well, I guess Apple just doesn't care about bugs in the iPhone or customer satisfaction. Just as long as they have the money they couldn't care less about anything else.
    Thanks Apple!

  • Podcast will not play

For several weeks now I have been unable to play the Suze Orman podcast. This week I am able to hear the audio but can't see the video. The podcast won't download and it won't play either. I have tried all the basic steps to remedy but come up with no desired result. I am at a loss, all other video podcasts play just fine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. There is a "hole" in my podcast week and I need to get it fixed. Thank you in advance.

Surely the server wouldn't block these file extensions, too.
Would not hurt to ask them what all they do block.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Podcast Will Not Play in Browser After Uploaded Through Fetch

I'm using iWeb '08 to create my website and I have a Podcast section on this site. However, I cannot get my Podcast to play on the website after it is uploaded using Fetch. The Podcast works fine when integrated in the website and viewing it through iWeb. However, when I am actually online, it appears as a Quicktime logo with a question mark on it.
Here is the process I am going through:
    1) Create Podcast in Garageband '08
    2) Share with iWeb '08
    3) Save and Publish to a Folder
    4) Upload all website folders to the web using Fetch (the most recent version)
So far, I have also tried sharing the Podcast with iTunes and then placing it on the iWeb page as a mp4 file. I've also tried placing it as a .mov file and a .mp3 file with no avail.
How can I get this thing to play on the internet? Any advice you all may have would be greatly appreciated!

  • Podcasts will not sync to Classic

I'm at a complete and utter loss.
One day updated podcasts stopped syncing to my iPod Classic.  I've done everything I can think of, google searches, asking friends and can't come up with a solution.
    Here's what I've tried:
    -Checked my anti-virus software
    -Rebooted
    -Restored
    -Uninstalled/Reinstalled iTunes
    -Used a different USB port
    -Used a different connector
-Tried different settings on iTunes, including selecting manual syncing.
I don't know if this problem is hardware vs. software.  Right now here's what's happening.  After one of the restores, I deleted all of my podcasts and resubscribed to see if that would help...it didn't.  I can download audio and video podcasts onto iTunes, when I connect my iPod it indicates that it's syncing but my iPod states "no podcasts".  I'm not sure if perhaps the podcasts are in a different folder under My Music, but last I checked the podcasts were in the Music>Podcast folder.
I don't know if I'm missing some vital step but I'm literally losing my mind trying to figure out what's happened and would love any/all suggestions.
One other thing.  I ran the Sync Diagnostic on iTunes and it said that no iPod could be found.  This is strange because when I do my restore, all of my old music library syncs, just nothing new.

Ah! That explains a lot, Video Podcasts are a mystery on the Classic!
Do you get any messages when you Sync these Podcasts? Some video Podcasts will not play on the iPod Classic and therefore they don't get transferred to the iPod. However, in that situation, I would expect you to see a message telling you something like "Some Podcasts were not transferred to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod."
You can't miss the message, so if you don't see it, the Podcasts must be on the iPod somewhere. However, I've noticed that video Podcasts can be almost anywhere on the iPod Classic, not sure why.
For instance, I have video Podcasts from different providers which are all in the iTunes U section in the iTunes library - even though they are not "educational." But, on the iPod, some of them are in the iTunes U section, while others are in the Music section. And guess what? The search facility does not find items in iTunes U! I have inspected the videos in iTunes but I'm unable to see why they should be in different sections of the iPod.
So, first of all, where are these videos in the iTunes library; Podcasts or iTunes U? This may give you a starter about where they are on the iPod and look (obviously) in the iTunes U on the iPod.
If you can't find them in iTunes U, try looking in the Video Playlists. Note, Video Playlists is separate from Playlists, so if necessary, place Video Playlists on your Main Menu. Even then, in the Video Playlists, all is not simple. Also on my Main Menu is Videos/Movies and some of my rogue video Podcasts are in there!
    Example:
    in the iTunes Library;
    Library/iTunes U/History 106B
    Library/iTunes U/Shulton: Old Spice (adverts)
both in the same section, next to each other.
Start from iPod Classic - Main Menu:
    Videos/Movies/Shulton: Old Spice (- only)
    Videos/Video Playlists/iTunes U/Shulton: Old Spice (- only)
    Video Playlists/iTunes U/Shulton Old Spice (- only)
    Playlists/iTunes U/History 106B (-only)
    Spot the difference?
So in other words, I cannot find these Podcasts all in one place on the iPod - to put it another way - iTunes U in one section has Old Spice but not History, and iTunes U in another section has the History but not the Old Spice! I could go on, the History appears under some, but not all of the Music Menu subsections while the Old Spice is not on the Music Menu at all!
It's mind numbing! It's one area where Apple doesn't appear to have got it right and unfortunately, I don't think that it will ever be sorted out. Often, this issue can be as a result of how the Podcast producer tags their videos, which may explain why the problem has just started. But how anyone sorts that out is beyond me too because different models of iPod act in different ways.
So have a good look through your iPod for the missing episodes, good luck, let us know how you get on, do you find them?
    Phil
P.S. On my Videos/Music Videos menu header, the iPod states "No Videos" but when I look in there, I find two videos! ??

I have Mac itunes and a touch 2G.  My wife has Win7 and touch 4G (both iOS 4.2.1). She got a new iphone, I now have her touch 4G, and am trying to sync it to my Mac itunes.  The music and videos sync to the 4G, but apps & podcast will not. All are checked to sync.  During sync, it gets to "determining apps to sync"  then immediately goes to "finished syncing".   No apps or podcasts from my Mac itunes are on the touch 4G.

You can only sync to one iTunes library but you can manage music and videos among different computer/libraries.
It appears that you are trying to sync with a different library.
    - If you want to make the Mac you syncing computer:
--- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by:
    iOS: How to back up
--- Restore the iPod from that backup. Note that synced media like apps and music are not in included in the backup.

Since downloading ios 6 my iPhone 4 will not play itunes when docked - plays ok when not on dock.  Has anyone else had this problem?

At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it???  I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

  • Resolution Steps:  iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch library corrupted and showing ghost entries which will not play or music that is on the device in iTunes but inaccessible.

Issue:  iOS Music application either has items listed in the library that will not play; or has an empty library but iTunes reports that music is present on the device and taking up space; or a combination of these issues coupled with the inability to resolve the problem through the standard resolution steps of disabling music syncing to remove all music and then re-enabling or by enabling "manually manage library" and removing the items.
Additionally, attempting to restore from a back-up does not resolve the issue and the default response from the Apple Support Community is to factory restore the device and treat as new device, resulting in loss of all settings and basically starting from scratch.
Cause of issue:  Corrupted iOS device iTunes library (MediaLibrary.sqlitedb).  This database stores the iTunes Media records and related information such as playcount, lyrics etc.  It does not store information and settings regarding iOS Applications as far as I am aware so this should be safe.
    Resolution Steps:
Perform a back-up to your local computer rather than iCloud if practical.  This will be quicker in the event of issues.
Download a iOS device manager such as Phone View (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/) which will allow you to directly access the file structure of the device.  (This will NOT require an illegal jailbreak to be performed!)
Enable the Advanced View mode so the entire disk structure is accessible.
Browse to the following file:  iTunes_Control/iTunes/MediaLibrary.sqlitedb
Rename MediaLibrary.sqlitedb to MediaLibrary.sqlitedb-backup or similar
Hold down POWER and HOME on your iOS device until the Apple logo appears.  Release both buttons.
When device has rebooted, connect to iTunes and synchronise it.
iTunes will detect that the Media Library on the device is missing and recreate it based on the items that it has listed in the iTunes synchronisation record for the device.

I've found an easier way, just go to settings>general>usage>music. Then swipe it and press delete, i think this deletes the database described above, then re-sync, this worked for me anyway. Good luck, you need it with Apple software.
I don't have a large library of music on my iPhone 4s since I've only had it since Oct 2012, but since the update to iTunes 11 in early December, my album artwork has been all messed up.  Everytime I would try to add new music, it would assign the wrong album artwork to anything new coming in.  And in addition to that, it would also mess up album artwork of music already on my phone.  Everything looked correct in iTunes, but on my phone, not so much.  After trying to unsynch, then synching again, my frustration level was at an all-time high. This problem seems to be everywhere online, but no concrete solution for everyone.
I finally came across your simple solution (at least for me because of my small inventory of music) of just deleting all the music through the settings, and then re-synching to add back my music.  Now all of the album artwork is correct again.  I'm almost afraid to add new music for fear the artwork will get mixed up all over again! I still think my issue is somehow connected to the iTunes 11 update because up until then I had no issues whatsoever. Anyway, thanks for an easy solution that worked for me.

  • ITunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from an external drive (or streamed from other wireless devices). Any solution in sight?

Video streaming of DRM movies, purchased from iTunes and other vendors, to any iOS device is not working.

I am not sure if you really understand the issue at hand. Possibly that you are just scanning, not reading the whole text, or simply that you just want to close a thread with your last words or derail it for whatever strange reason. So far you have been more destructive than helpful, but again this could be ignorance at best.
If you would have had the decency to read the entire thread you would have come to the conclusion that every manufacturer, I came across, has posted FAQ's to this issue but Apple. Find a short excerpt below:

Most forms of DRM (Digital Rights Management) will prevent playing movies on unauthorized devices or from remote storage hosted on wireless drives or NAS drives(Seagate Wireless, Seagate Wireless Plus, Seagate Central or Seagate Personal Cloud). Movies purchased from iTunes can be streamed to iOS 6 and iOS 7 devices which were authorized from remote storage (the video could be selected in Seagate Media App and would be played in a Safari browser), however in iOS 8 this has stopped working. A bug has been filed with Apple, however this functionality has not been restored. Therefore, DRM protected movies purchased on iTunes can no longer be played on devices running iOS 8.
SanDisk  http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes <http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes> Videos purchased or rented from iTunes will not play in iOS 8 The SanDisk Wireless Media Drive and Wireless Flash Drive support streaming of DRM protected iTunes purchased movie content to authorized devices in iOS 6 and iOS 7 ONLY. The DRM protected content is opened in Safari where the DRM is decrypted and the video is played. iOS 8 issue In iOS 8 Apple device has NOT enabled Safari based DRM decryption. Therefore DRM protected content, i.e. purchased movies or TV shows from iTunes, CANNOT be streamed from the Media Drive/WFD in iOS 8. This issue has been reported to Apple. Here are the remaining issues that we are aware of in the iOS 8 general release: • Video streaming of DRM movies (purchased from iTunes and other vendors): iTunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from AirStash (or streamed from other wireless devices). These movies are digitally protected and the AirStash app sends them to the Safari browser to play (which works for all prior iOS versions). However, in iOS 8, Safari will no longer allow DRM movies to play. These movies will play when the video is transferred to the iPhone/iPad and played in the Apple's Video App or the corresponding App from the vendor.

If this is the case and Apple will not address this issue or fix it since Apple believes that movies should be protected this way, you need to let the community know that movies are restricted this way. It appears that Apple finally fixed an issue they had with their movie DRMs. The files should have never played in the first place.
