Point registration using cpd for camera calibration

Hi,
I do not know whether or not I could use Point Set Registration: Coherent Point Drift (CPD) for correcting the error of my 3d positioning using an overhead camera.
I have already done the intrinstic and extrinsic camera calibration but I still have errors between the measuremed position of my tracking object and it's true location. ( I track a board with 4 blobs which should give me the x,y,z of the tracking board)
I would like to find the mapping between my measurements and true positions for those measurements which I can then use for new points to decrease the positioning error.
I have been playing around in matlab with the cpd code here https://sites.google.com/site/myronenko/research/cpd
I can find the transform but I dont know how to use it for new data points. It seems like the transformation matrice is a set of weights for each data point that it has been given. I added new points to the Y set and I get a new position for those points which seems to be ok but I really have no idea how the method deals with the unseen points or how the transformation can be used for your new data.
Thanks a lot for your help

Hi zeinab.t,
I am not quite sure what you exactly want to know.
From your explanations, I think to root issue is a not correct calibration of the vision system. To go a bit deeper:
Calibration is used most frequently for stereo vision systems to calibrate two camera to get a correct 3D image in the acquisition. You wrote, that you are using only one camera. So how do you calibrate the camera? Which functions do you use? How is your vision application setup? A small draft may be helpful. Waht software do you use?
About the tool you used in the link, I can not say anything, since I do not know, how this works in the background.
I think we should keep our eyes to the root cause problem, so you do not need any transformation things that could potentially bring errors into the measurements.
Best regards,
Melanie

  • Using colorchecker for camera profile

Created photo then used file menue, export preset, xrite.  It worked but I never got a change to select a name.  It came up as "profile". What am I missing.  Found the profiles but my camera  Cannon Rebel 4ti is not listed.  Is there an easy way to change or delete these profiles?

This may help. Don't forget to also calibrate your WB with the new profile using the gray patch next to the 100% white patch. I save this as a new Develop preset with only 'White Balance' and 'Calibration' (Camera DNG profile) checked. I found this necessary as the WB was different when using the LR WB presets.
Be careful when renaming camera profiles. Any images already using the profile will revert back to 'Adobe Standard' since it no longer sees the profile with the "old name." Try to use something descriptive like '600D CCPP Sunny.' This will help identify them if you decide to use the Adobe DNG Profile Editor for creating or modifying camera profiles.

  • IMovie locks/crashes when using firewire for camera and disk

I've been archiving all my old movies from my Mini-DV camera. My setup is as follows: Mac OSX 10.5.6 and iLive '09 (latest updates), Intel Mac Mini (2008 version), MiniStack external Sata drive, and Canon ZR-60 (firewire). I have the camera hooked into the external drive's firewire cascade port. Typically, this is what happens:
I auto-import my tape and when the tape hits the end, iMovie hangs instead of re-winding the tape and stabilizing the media. Unplugging the camera from the FW bus usually solves the problem when the stuck "updating thumbnails" progress bar appears.
Last night, I tried manual import and got a different result. At random times in the import, iMovie simply crashed and created a problem report for Apple. Has anyone found a workaround for this? Will I ever be able to use more than 1 device at one time on my FW bus reliably?

iMovie seemed to work correctly once I had the Cannon ZR60 still daisy-chained off the FW external drive but stored the movie events to the internal SATA drive. After stabilization, I quit iMovie and then manually moved the events to the external drive. This is kind of a pain but better than discovering that my import failed at random times.

  • Camera Calibration "Fors script in PS Cs

I have done a calibration using the Gretagmacbeth Color chart, for each of my Olympus cameras E300 and E20 which are supported by ACR 2.4 in PS CS using the Fors ACR calibration script. The profiles have not been updated since that version and show as such in Lightroom.
The results have been input in the Lightroom Camera Calibration settings, as recommended in the Lightroom book by Martin Evening, and I am happy with improvement this has provided to the color rendition of my raw files.
However I am wondering if another calibration is run with the script using PS CS3 if the result will be different and improved? Any help would be appreciated.

I doubt there would be any difference, except that if you are running CS3 on a latest Intel processors you should see a significant reduction in processing times. One thing that was pointed out to me is that if you have the calibration settings stored in the xmp metadata from a file editied in Photoshop, it is easier to just create a new calibrate setting for Lightroom from the imported file.

  • Camera Calibration for Nikon

In am a Nikon shooter.  Along with Adobe Standard, the Nikon Picture Control names are listed in the drop-down box for LR camera calibration presets.  When I select one of the Nikon Picture Control names for camera calibration, I'd like to understand if LR is only applying the settings which appear in Camera Calibration screen (shadow tint, and the R, G, and B hue and saturation), or is LR somehow also applying any of the other Develop settings associated with the Nikon Picture Control (sharpening, contrast, brightness)?   I understand that I could change sharpening, contrast and brightness using Develop presets, but I'd like to understand whats going on the Lightroom calibration area first so that I do not overdo or duplicate the edits.

The camera profiles also contain a tone curve.

  • Camera Calibrations Missing in LR 3 for 20D, 30D and 5D MII

    Jim,
I don't quite understand what you mean by "custom settings". Are you refering to "Camera Standard", "Camera Portrait", "Camera Landscape" and so on?
All the profiles you see in the Camera Calibration Tab are specifically (and only) made for the camera which took the RAW file you're looking at. So if you see a "Camera Standard" for a RAW of your 20D, you're actually using a profile named "Canon EOS 20D Camera Standard.dcp" on your system.

  • Where should I save the camera calibration profile for Lightroom 2?

I created some DNG Camera Profiles by DNG Profile Editor. For Camera Calibration in Camera Raw, I save those .dcp files in C:\ Administrator\ Documents and Settings\ Application Data\ Adobe\ Camera Raw \ CameraProfiles. However, I could't find such a subfolder in Lightroom folder, does any one know where should I save the dcp files for Lightroom 2? Thank you

It's the same install folder for both Camera Raw and Lightroom (i.e., a .dcp installed in the folder you described will be readable by both CR and LR).

  • CS6 Beta questions: skin tones, camera calibration in Camera RAW

While this is supposed to be a fully functional version, I am missing the Patch and Move content aware tools, the Skin Tones function does not work, there is no camera calibration except for Adobe Standard available under Camera RAW 7.0 and none of the links uder "Help" work.  When I try to look for updates I am assured that I have the latest version.  Does this sound right to you?  Am I just not looking in the right places for these features or are they indeed not available in Beta, in which case it is of course impossible to try them out.

Thanks very much, Pattie.  I was not holding down the Healing brush.  That all works fine now.  However, what about camera profiles for camera calibration in Camera Raw 7.0 and why don't the skin tones work?  I am using a reasonably new HP laptop with plenty of horsepower and Windows 7.  Here is my system info.  Can you help further?

  • Camera calibration tab in ACR ...

When we slide the saturation slider for a primary to the left end (completely desaturated position), does it mean that we move this primary to the white point on the chromaticity diagram? Thanks ...

Moving the camera calibration saturation sliders to -100 does not completely desaturate the RGB colors. It only moves the saturation in a range useful for camera calibration–you would never need to completely desaturate a sensors colors for the purposes of calibration.
I see ... but as ssprengel said, if you desaturate three primaries -250 in total, input profiles on the camera calibration tab can be made monochrome. I think that the range of saturation sliders are going beyond which are required for just fine tuning camera profiles. Am I missing something?

  • Camera Calibration worth it?

I'm looking at the x-rite colorchecker passport for camera calibration in LR/ACR, I've read some reviews and tutorial vids and for $99 seems like a no-brainer, though, on the flip side, I did read someone who said that it is more useful for studio/table-top photography than, say, landscape, etc., and that 'accurate color doesn't necessarily translate to pleasing color'. Anyone try one of these things? Worthwhile investment?

I have had a Colorchecker Passport since Feb.  I've been pretty pleased with it and the profiles that it produces.
I have noticed recently one issue.  Having used a polarizer extensively in autumn, I've found that using a profile generated using the Colorchecker Passpost software (I am using the latest version available) tends to heavily oversaturate autumn foliage and thereby loses detail.  For those shots, I've gone back to Adobe Standard and bumped the vibrance and saturation to taste with better results.
On other shots, it will push reds, oranges and foliage (yellow/green) towards yellow.  In some of those cases, Adobe Standard works out better as well.
I don't have a profile for every shoot - I do them by season, time of day (e.g., "mid day", "late afternoon", etc.) and the conditions (sun, haze, cloud,...).
I have definitely noticed that skin tones are better.

  • Using CSS for Web dynpro application in EP

    Hi,
I have some CSS (Style sheets) which I need to apply to the portal, so that all the web dynpro applications can have the same look and feel.
I read something about Theme Editor in EP. Can I somehow use that to import the CSS contents into the EP theme?
Any pointer to using CSS for Web Dynpro applications will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Camera Calibration profiles, non showing apart from basic ones.

    Fairly new
to lightroom3, I shoot in raw on a 5dii, never connected the camera directly to the PC, load images via a card reader, lens correction profiles are there. But only  6 profiles for camera calibration are there. None specific to the camera. All the images are CR2 files. I am following Scott kelby's book. Am I doing something wrong. Help please.

Lightroom show only the profiles that are specific to your Camera. You should see Adobe Standard which is the Profile Adobe has created specific to your camera then there should be a number of profiles which start with the word Camera then faithful, vivid, landscape etc. Those are other profiles which Adobe created to try and match the rendition of your camera specific settings. Your camera name is not specified but the profiles that show will be the ones for you camera.

  • When editing my dng files I'm missing soften skin, camera calibration choices. How to get them back?

I've seen the many options for camera calibration. I only get 'Adobe Standard'. Also missing the drop down choice that come with 'soften skin'. Thanks for your help.

D70 should have multiple camera profiles available if you're looking at a raw file.  Jpegs will just have embedded.
I don't have any A330 files to check those I'm afraid, but Adobe have only built multiple profiles for the most popular DSLR's (mainly Canon/Nikon) so that could explain it.

  • Which camera calibration profile do you use for your imports?

I have a Canon camera, and have always just imported with the LR  settings left to Adobe default, including the Calibration panel set to  Adobe Standard profile. Sometimes it provides a satisfactory starting  point, other times not. Since reading in another topic's posts  concerning importing with other profiles (and setting them as a new  import default), I have tinkered around with trying this out. Just  curious how others handle their import settings. Do you leave everything  at Adobe default (basic, tone curve, detail, calibration)? Or, do you  reset to a  custom default? What are the actual settings that you use  and your reasons why. And, do you import with lens corrections enabled.  This information would be a big help in gaining a better understanding  of this aspect of LR.
    Thanks
    Jonathan

Rob Cole wrote concerning Lens Correction settings:
I only do 80% of vignette correction, and 0% of distortion correction by default, and revisit that decision after importing, but nothing sacred about it - plenty of people use 100% for those too and do fine, or use their own pet numbers...
Yes, absolutely use Lens Correction along with Camera Profiles. Like Rob said, "No reason not to!" But there are some considerations. You may like a little vignetting in the picture and 100% pretty much wipes-out all vignetting. Also, since vignetting correction raises image corner brightness, lens aberrations such as astigmatism and coma will be more visible and can reduce image quality near the edges. It's a trade-off as to what amount to use, which will vary dependent on your lens corner performance. I use a default vignetting setting of 50% for wide angle zooms and 100% for all other lenses, and only adjust higher if the image benefits from it. Distortion setting in an ideal world should benefit from 100% correction, BUT it can also degrade the corner resolution with wide-angle zoom lense images which typically have high barrel distortion. I use a default setting of 0%, and only use it for correcting images with obvious geometry distortion. Even then I rarely need to use 100% to make things look "normal." Chromatic Abberrations adjustment can safely be used at 100% for maximum benefit, assuming the profile is accurate over the zoom focal range. The new Adobe lens profiles seem to work very well in this respect.
These are great"automatic" tool adjustments to make our less than perfect zoom lenses perform near prime lens image quality. OK, zooms don't have the wider aperature of prime lenses, but the high ISO of today's DSLR bodies give us a lot of latitude to play with!

  • It's been two years since Windows 7 64 bit computers came out. At what point is Firefox thinking of providing a browser that is compatible with this. I haven't used Firefox for 2 years as a results. And what exactly is Waterfox?

If you do a search on the web, you will discover that I am far from the only one who finds that she cannot use Firefox because it is incompatible with Windows 7 64 bit. I'm pretty sure there must be hundreds of thousands of users out there that can not use Firefox for the same reason. At what point are you thinking of updating your browser?
Also are you connected to Waterfox and is it safe?

In device manager tick Show hidden devices, under view on the toolbar.
If DM cannot see it you cannot install a driver, not sure why that hardware will not get detected.
