Popping noise in display

hi everyone
my friend told me about this discussion, very cool. I'm new here so bear with me.
i bought a black macbook a few months ago and i love it. however, i noticed that when i open the display past 90 degrees, it will start to make a plastic popping noise.
the following week i brought it to the local apple store and the guy took it for a day or so then called me to tell me its normal but he made some adjustments.
when i got home i noticed that the display opened smoother and the pop noise was more silent but now it has come back.
is this just 'nature of the beast' for this computer or should i bring it back? i had a dell before and it didnt pop but it wasnt as fancy as this one

"when my son took it in for me he said that the repair mac guy told him that it may creak a little because it is black ?"
Well as crazy as that sounds from all I've seen it's the black MacBooks that make the creaking. I really don't see why that would make a difference but it does. I mean it shouldn't make any noise but mine does and I haven't worried too much about it since I open it, it creaks and I go about my business. If it was a constant noise I'd be all over it but.......

  • 2.16 iMac display making popping noise

    Hey guys,
My imac display has been making these "popping" noises that are very faint when the screen dims and when the screen goes to a screen saver (it does it for all different screen savers).
Its like a ticking sound and theres about 3 ticks per second.
The screen is as bright as ever so I'm not sure whats up. I'll leave the screen idle for a few mins, then it auto-dims and the ticking starts.
    Anyone ever hearad of this?

use ASP and check the ST hard drive ie Seagate. If assembled in china and firmware version 7.01 ; then you best save your data asap because the hard drive is going to crash with no possibility of data recovery.

  • Popping noise on iMac core 20" anyone?

    Hi
This is my first post. I aquired a core duo 20" 7 days ago (my first mac).
For no reason at all I keep hearing a 'popping' noise from the speakers. It occurs randomly, and usually when nothing is happening at all. Anyone else get this?
It is very annoying, and worry it will affect music editing at a later point.

Well to be honest the manager did try and get out of refunding at first. This is what happened at PC WORLD
"I have these problems with this mac I bought from you two weeks ago" I said
"have you called apple techical support" He said
    "no" I said
    "why not" he said
"I didn't want to, and I biught the mac from you not from apple" I said
"Oh he said - well let me see - (he checked his computer) well we only I have a display model left in stock" He said
(yep - he was trying to pass the one on display on to me as a replacement!!)
    "not acceptable" I said
"I'm very sorry but none of our stores have any in stock at the moment, but we can deliver one" He said
"I don't think so - whats my other options" I said
"only the display model from here sir?" He said
"any other options ?" I said
    "no sir sorry" He said
    "I think you'll find there are" - I said
"you are eligible for a refund if you want one sir" he said (obviously realising where I was going with myu line of questioning)
    "that'll do nicely" - I said
I signed a form, left the mac with him, and walked out of PCWORLD macless but with a full refund, and now I plan to buy one direct from apple.

  • HT1338 Black/Noise-swirl display issue on Mac Mini late 2012

I have been getting Black/Noise-swirl display cut-outs lasting up to 3 seconds, occuring about twice a day.
Hardware: i7 Quad-core Mac Mini (L2012), 4GbRam, 1tb HardDrive - currently using the Apple HDMI to DVI apdapter into a  LG Flatron IPS225 LED Disaply.
The problem doesn't appear to be related to any particular app that was running.
The LG display is LED IPS and is at full 1920 x 1080 resolution. Overscan is off.
Trying to determine if it is related the screen or if this is to do with the Intel Hd Graphics chip within the Mini, as both are recently purchased, so it is quite a concerning issue!
Has anyone else been getting similar problems?
    Any help appreciated! thanks

There are quite a few threads regarding this issue.

    I hope this helps.

  • Popping noise while sleeping

I started to notice a "popping" noise (about 1 Hz) when I got external speakers for my Mac Mini. It occurs when the Mac is sleeping and the external screen is on (but sleeping its own "sleep").
If I disconnect the analog audio out (from where the external speakers take their signal) the popping ends.
If I connect headphones to the same jack, I hear no popping in them.
If I hit the power button on the external screen and power it down, the popping ends. It will not return eventhough I power the screen on again.
If I disconnect the USB cable that power the speakers from the Mac, the popping ends, but returns when I connect again.
Any clue to what this problem comes from? Some kind of ground loop?
    /BE

Seems we've isolated the problem to Electrical at least. Sounds like a Ground loop somewhere.
    See this nice article...
    http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov04/articles/computerproblems.htm
Audio equipment which uses a double-insulated design needs no earth connection, and so is less susceptible to earth-loop problems. Such equipment will often use two-core mains cable, which has an oval cross-section, and the mains plug will sometimes use a dummy plastic earth pin, as shown here.
Disconnecting the earth wire inside a mains plug might solve an earth loop problem, but it's a dangerous solution, because you're removing an essential electrical safety measure.
And my best guess at this point is the PSU for the Speakers.

  • Why is there a popping noise when I cut between angles in a multi cam edit? How do i get rid of it?

I shot an interview. I recorded it on an h4n-One person was on channel 1 and the other was on channel 2. When I cut between them in a multi edit it creates a popping noise. How can I get rid of this and/or prevent this from happening?

I had this..  I didn't cure it I just slipped the edit until it went. Not always possible.  What I would do on avid or fcp 7 is add a dissolve to the audio tracks.. So you could do that in the fcp x way

  • "Popping" noise w/ Audigy 2

    Hi,
I have had this constant, periodic popping noise through my 7. Creative speakers with my Audigy 2 ZS whenever I load windows and mostly when I have two sounds playing at once ie. Games and Winamp... please does anyone know how to fix this? It is very annoying...
The popping gets louder when I turn the speakers up and down when i turn them down ...

"The popping gets louder when I turn the speakers up and down when i turn them down"
That's normal for a volume control. How about a search on this forum, because what you asked, is asked before here really many many times.
I've also answered many many times, almost with the same answer.(irq/dma sharing of Motherboard&Windows. Put soundcard in a pci-slot that don't share with other equipment that is used at the same time.(like video = audiocard+graphicscard at same time, so you don't want these too cards to share irq/dma.)
well do a search on this forum for popping audigy, and you'll find tha answers.

  • How do you solve popping noise??

Does anyone have a solution, or can suggest a course of action to address the popping noise that occurs when my macbook Pro's speaker turns on, say when launching a song from itunes. It is not super annoying yet. But it would be nice to solve. Is this a 10.4.8 thing or software glitch, or hardware related. I have a new MBPCD2 2.16

Are there any technicians from apple that review these forums? I have the issue of the popping noise and was very concerned, but it make sense that for power saving that the speakers get de-energized.
    Should I be concerned?
I just bought this MBP. You think that something that costs this much, wouldn't have this kind of issue. I've been faithful to PC for 15 years and finally converted to MAC because I was getting tired of PC issues (like this) It is extremely pleasing to fire up my mac and not have to work on it, check virus definitions. I kinda don't know what to do with my time now!!!
    Thanks in advance.

  • Pop Noise from Audio Out While Using iTunes 9.0.1

I have a black MacBook with Leopard 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.0.1. I have a a pair of computer speakers plugged to the MacBook's audio out minijack. Every time I run iTunes to play my music everything goes fine until I stop the music (you know with the space bar or the stop button). 30 seconds after I stop the music a loud pop noise comes up and stops, as if some electrical device was receiving a charge of electricity. When I play music back again on iTunes, the same noise comes up again with the music and goes away immediately while the music continues all right.
This is what I have done so far:
Change my energy saving parameter to several different configurations (perhaps the hard drive stopping when unused was the cause) but none fix it.
Turned off Airport...did not fix it
I timed the pop noise and it happens exactly 30 seconds after I stop my music on iTunes and then again 30 seconds after music has been stopped unless I start playing the music back again and the pop noise sounds again.
Any help would be appreciated as I use my MacBook to play music sequences for my band (I am the drummer) so the darn noises come through our PA system (and I also tried my small computer speakers and it does the same thing).
    Thanks,

I spent a good amount of time reading several discussions. Apple is aware of this issue but no solution as of yet. The popping noise is "normal" behavior and happens because of how the sound system is programmed in the computer.
The solution (sorry for the bad news) is to not use the audio out minijack at all. Instead, get an audio interface that connects to your USB port and then route the output signal from your audio interface to your speakers, headphones or PA system. The popping noise will not sound. I tested it several times.
If the only cable you have is a minijack male type then go to Radio Shack and get adapters. I had to get me an adapter that takes two RCA males and converts them to a female minijack type.
    Good luck.

  • Cracking and popping noise Sound Blaster x-Fi Platinum Running on Windows 7 32 Bit

Hi everyone, I am using a x-fi platinum card and it simply wont work with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit. I have been using both windows 7 public beta and release candidate for last 8 months. Let me give you my PC configuration.
    Intel Pentium D 3.4GHz
2GB DDR2 Memory running in Dual Channel Mode
ATI Radeon HD 4670 Video Card With 52MB DDR3
It has a built in sound on mother board (Disabled at the moment)
With the above configuration I tried using my x-fi platinum on both Windows XP and Windows Vista, and it worked perfectly without any problem. When I upgraded to windows 7 beta for the first time with the creative beta driver for windows 7, I noticed that whenever there is any on screen activity, such as minimizing and maximizing windows, switching windows, scrolling, photo or webpage transition, etc. there are cracking and popping noises. And if there are continuous or too much activity on the screen at some times the sound card completely fails and unable to provide any sound. When I took the sound card out and enabled the on board audio chip (Realtek HD Audio), the sound was fine without any cracking or popping issue. I eventually upgraded to Windows 7 RC and also currently using the latest driver for windows 7 and I am still having the same problem. As a reasult I am being forced to use the on board realtek audio solution which provides really crappy sound compared to x-fi platinum.
It appears that the problem exists only when I try to run x-fi platinum on windows 7. I really hope there is a solution for this otherwise I will have to sell my beloved sound card which I have been using for at least 3 years on ebay and stick with low quality Realtek HD sound system.

Not all of them, I have none of those problems with my Xtreme Music. This won't help the guy asking about the Xtreme Audio (search the Sound Blaster section for the one for your card), but using this,

  • Popping noise after export

So my song plays just fine in GarageBand, but when I export to iTunes, there are some popping noises that come in (very subtly) at the same parts in the song. Here are some troubleshooting things I've already checked:
    1) It is not my speakers -- I've tried two different pairs of headphones, and another set of speakers.
    2) I do not have the decibels amped in the GarageBand edit.
    3) I've tried reducing the decibel levels to all negatives, and it still pops in the same spots.
    4) I've tried exporting the song in all different formats, compressed and uncompressed.
Anyone know of something else that might work? Thanks!

Did you change your song's tempo after recording? If GB has to re-render a sound file, it often introduces artefacts.

  • When I try to install "Addblock Plus", a pop-up box displays "Add-on downloading", and "unknown time remaining - 0 bytes (0 bytes / sec)". My local area connection status box shows that it is connected but that nothing is being received.

I am using Firefos 9.0.1 under Windows XP. I use Avast anti-virus. My Add-ons bar is empty. I have not initiated the installation of any plug-ins. Downloads keeps no record of my attempts.

Thank you for your interest mha007. This is an update on my evenings activities so far.
I have done that trouble shooting with results, as follows:
    Started in safe mode
In Tools/Options/Advanced/General, I unchecked "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    Clicked on Tools/Add-ons
    "Get add-ons" displayed "Loading" indefinitely
All 5 Extensions are dis-abled: it suggested that I remove "Microsoft.net framework assistant 1.2.1" & "Test pilot 1.2".
On "Microsoft.net framework assistant 1.2.1" I Clicked "Remove". It remained but with version 0.0.0.
On "Test pilot 1.2" I clicked "Remove". It disappeared.
The single Appearance "Default 9.0.1" is disabled
None of the 16 plug-ins are disabled.
I clicked on Add-ons and "Get add-ons" displayed "Loading"
Several minutes later I found that, "Add-ons" had loaded.
I clicked on "Most popular" and then on "Add to Firefox " within "Adblock plus"
    A pop-up box displayed "Add-on downloading", and "unknown time remaining - 0 bytes (0 bytes / sec)".
Within a minute, a Firefox "Alert" pop-up window opened with the message: "An error occurred during a connection to www.mozilla.org:443 / The OCSP server experienced an internal error. / (Error code: sec_error_ocsp_server_error)"
I bookmarked the "Most popular add-ons page"
I closed Firefox and opened it again - not in safe mode.
Clicked on Tools/Add-ons. "Get add-ons" displayed "Loading".
In Extensions, on "Microsoft.net framework assistant 1.2.1" I Clicked Disable", and Restart Firefox
I clicked on Tools/Add-ons. "Get add-ons" displayed "Loading". Message displayed "Connected to services.add-ons.mozilla.org. Waited.
10 minutes later I opened a new tab and clicked on the "Most popular add-ons page" bookmark. Message displayed "Connected to add-ons.mozilla.org". Waited.
15 minutes later, neither of the tabs had responded. I re-started firefox in safe mode
I clicked on Tools/Add-ons. "Get add-ons" displayed "Loading". Message displayed "Connected to static-ssl-cdn.addons.mozill.net"
Using the new tab from above which was not active on restart, I clicked on the "Most popular add-ons page" bookmark.
The bookmarked page opened. I clicked on "Add to Firefox " within "Adblock plus"
Again, a pop-up box displayed "Add-on downloading", and "unknown time remaining - 0 bytes (0 bytes / sec)". (No Alert this time).
I don't know what to read into all of this. Any advice on what the next best thing to do would be appreciated.

  • FIOS router causing static and popping noises on computer audio

Hi, I'm a less than two week old FIOS internet user and am loving the speed and service but I have one problem. The FIOS router seems to be causing static popping noises my desktop computers audio that is connected to the FIOS router by the yellow Ethernet cable. Theses noises don't occur on any of the laptops connected to the router by the wireless or when I connect a laptop to the router via a Ethernet cable.
Ways I found to eliminate the noises temporary:
Restarting the desktop computer or shutting down then turning on the desktop computer.
Ways I found to eliminate the noises permanently
Turning off and unplugging the router.
Hooking up the FIOS router via the Ethernet cable to a laptop. I unfortunately do not have a wireless built into my desktop.
    What I've tried and failed
First I thought it was the Ethernet cable, so I replaced it. The noises did not go away.
I thought it might be the headset I use which are connected to the computer by a usb port. Unplugging the headset and using earphones which are connect to the computer by the audio slot did not eliminate the noises.
Then I contacted Verizon, and they thought it might be a faulty router, so they sent me a new one. The noises unfortunately did not go away.
I then thought the noises might be occurring because the router was close to the computer. So I moved the router as far away as possible from the computer (its connect to the router by a Ethernet cable so it wasn't that far) but the noises didn't go away.
    Notes & Points
The noises do not start the moment I turn on the router and computer, but a hour or two after.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to occurring only when the desktop computer is connected to the router by the Ethernet cable. Though replacing the Ethernet cable has not resolved the issue.
I also have found that location of the FIOS router also doesn't matter since the noises did not return even though the router was right up against the computer when I connected the FIOS router to my laptop.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64, 3.5 gigs of ram, and a dual 2.0 GHz processor.
So that sums up my problem. If you guys have any tips or ideas of how to fix my issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a shielding problem on the AUDIO cables or a grounding issue.   PC sound systems are notorious for having lousy audio cables feeding (I regularly pickup the local FM station on my speakers).
Try replacing the audio cables with better quality shield cables and see if that helps.
Are the router, speakers, and PC all plugged into the same outlet?  Are they all polarized plugs?  If note, try flipping the power plug on the non-polarized connections.
The sound could be coming from interference INSIDE the PC itself ... the proximity of sound cables inside and the audio chipset to the ethernet chipset.   You didn't indicate if the audio/ethernet are on the motherboard or seperate cards.   If they are seperate cards, try relocating the cards furfher from one another inside the chassis and also look at the audio cable (particularly the analog cable that runs from the CD to the audio card to make sure it's not routed past or near the ethernet electronics.
How far distant is the router from the PC?  If you pull the ethernet cable from the router (not turn if off, unplug the ethernet cable running to the PC), does it stop?

  • Final Cut 10.1.1 Export Issues & Popping Noise

I've been having some very strange problems that I've never heard of before in Final Cut. First off, I downloaded historical footage I needed for this edit from Youtube as .MP4's, cut them together with some audio, and had everything ready to go. Inside of Final Cut, play back was great. I then tried exporting, and I got the "The share operation "Master File" has failed. The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 80 (error -1)." The frame number changed between frame 80 and frame 23, seemingly at random. I started out by Goggleing. I tried deleteing my render files, turning off background render, deleteing my preferences, making a new project and pasting everything in, duplicating the project, and more. Absolutely nothing worked. I then started the process of elimination, and deleted parts of by timeline to find the problem. As it turns out, I had to delete my two compound clips (both only audio) and put them in the timeline without a compound clip. It then finally exported, only to find that one of my clips had a ridiculous popping noise, exactly like the Final Cut 10.0 bug. I've tried changing my sample rate, converting the video, exporting the orginal clip's audio with Quicktime then syncing it with the clip in Final Cut, and even just adding an effect to see what happens. The popping still remains. Any ideas? I couldn't find anyone on the web with this problem that's back from the dead. Being able to use compund clips would make the edit a whole lot easier too. Thoughts?
Here's my computer specs, if they help:
    2011 27' iMac
Quad core i7 processor with four virtual cores (8 cores total)
    16 gigabytes of RAM
    256 gigabyte SSD
2TB HDD (I've tried transfering the edit to both drives, no luck.)
At this point I'm ready to reinstall Final Cut, but I haven't done it before, and I don't know what it entails. I'd prefer not to lose prefernces, etc. In general, I'd rather not have to do that though.

Luis, just to add to my previous post, I just found a removal process online that is specifally for removal from Mavericks.  Can you verify if this is the one to use over FCS Remover (which I think is for previous versions).   Here is what I found:
In Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
Locate the Final Cut Pro application and drag it to the Trash.
In Finder, hold down the Option key and choose Library from the Go menu.
In the Library folder that opens, open the Application Support folder. Move the Final Cut Pro folder to the Trash.
Return to the Library folder and open the Caches folder. Move the "com.apple.FinalCut" folder to the Trash.
Return to the Library folder and open the Preferences folder. Move the following files to the Trash:
    com.apple.FinalCut.LSSharedFileList.plist
    com.apple.FinalCut.plist
    com.apple.FinalCut.UserDestinations.plist
I just want to make sure so I don't have any problems with a fresh download from the Apple Store.
    Thank you again!

?I am getting popping noise when I play games with the x-fi card. Music and other applications run flawless and sounds great. I only get the noise while playing games. I have read all the troubleshooting ideas from this site and none seem to fix the problem. I have all the latest drivers for the bios, video cards, x-fi, and windows xp. The x-fi card is on its own IRQ. I have reinstalled the OS and drivers multiple times. I have turned down the hardware acceleration? for the video card. I have a 600 watt power supply ...and that should be enough power to run my system. I have everything turned off in the bios that I am not using. I have tried some more stuff ...just cant think of it at the moment......
