Popping noise when in menu mode?

I get a steady and repeating popping noise while I am on the menu page.
Once I select a video/movie- the pops stop and all is fine.
Is this a HDMI handshake issue?

I have both an ATV1 and ATV2.
The ATV2 is connected to a surround sound through my TV. The sound system and the sound on my TV both pop every time a video or audio starts to play.
This is the way my ATV2 is connected as well. In my case the popping only occurs when I am in the menu mode until a movie/video starts and then all is fine. And the popping only occurs if I start up the surround sound receiver when the ATV2 is already "awake" (not asleep) with its light on. If the ATV2 is asleep when I turn on the surround sound receiver, and then turn on the ATV2, then all is fine.
In my opinion it is some kind of issue between the audio output of the ATV2 and the audio input circuit from my surround sound receiver. If anyone has a solution for this I would certainly appreciate learning it.
I never have had this problem with my ATV1

  • Popping noise when track starts or ends

    hey
ive been putting together this song recently but on a few tracks, when it ends or starts there is this popping noise right as it comes in. Any suggestions?

    hi
are these tracks you have recorded i.e audio?
If so you could open them in the sample editor and move the start position a fraction to avoid the popping sound.
Also, try adding a fade to the region beginning and/or end in question.
BTW, You need to careful with waveforms. In the sample editor local menu go to <edit> and make sure "search zero crossings" is ticked. This means that the start and end positions snap to the closest point to where the wave form crosses the zero line. This should ideally solve your "popping or clicking" problem.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why is there a popping noise when I cut between angles in a multi cam edit? How do i get rid of it?

I shot an interview. I recorded it on an h4n-One person was on channel 1 and the other was on channel 2. When I cut between them in a multi edit it creates a popping noise. How can I get rid of this and/or prevent this from happening?

I had this..  I didn't cure it I just slipped the edit until it went. Not always possible.  What I would do on avid or fcp 7 is add a dissolve to the audio tracks.. So you could do that in the fcp x way

  • Strange popping noise when reversing

    Hello,
I have been using iMovie HD 6 for quite a while now (I downgraded), and the reverse feature has been working fine until now. When I reverse the clip (w/o changing the fast/slow marker), a strange popping noise replaces the usually reversed audio. I tried it on an iMac G4 with iMovie 4, and it created the same strange effect. (As an alternative, I've been using +J and Wavepad for the reverse audio) Can anyone fix this?

  • Loud Popping Noise when wake from sleep

On my new iMac CD 20" there is a load popping noise that comes from the speakers when I wake it up from sleep. Also, the hard-drive or the super-drive clicks a few when waken from sleep. Yesterday there was a static noise coming from the speakers while I was using the machine on the web, it was load enough to be annoying, I restarted it and the sound went any. I am wondering if any others have noticed this problem and should I take it back for a new one.
My wife has even said that the sounds don't seem right.
    Any feedback would be great!
    Thanks.
    20" Intel iMac and 12 P-book- 867 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I conducted some tests on my iMac, and the problem, as it were, is related to having external speakers connected to my iMac. When I unplug my external speakers (JBL Encounter), I do not hear the pop upon waking my iMac from sleep. When I plug the speakers in again, the pop returns. I do not hear the pop when I mute the speakers before putting the iMac to sleep, either.
To rule out other devices, I unplugged all external devices and then reconnected them one at a time. Only the speakers triggered the pop.
I don't think this is a defect necessarily, even though I never heard the popping sound when waking my iMac G5 from sleep (with the same set of speakers). I think it may, as I suggest above, have something to do with the change in processors.
I may call Apple just the same to see what its tech. support people have to say on the matter.
Do those others of you experiencing the popping sound also have external speakers?

  • Strange noises when in sleep mode???

    Hello,
Have had my brand new 27 inch iMac for about 3 weeks now. This is my first Mac computer. When in sleep mode the iMac sounds like it wants to start up and then there is a clicking sound. Just wondering if this is normal. . .or, should I shut the computer down?
    Thanks.

To me any clicking sound is not normal unless on a Mouse or Trackpad.  Do not delay to have it investigated, take a look at Apple returns and refunds from here....  http://store.apple.com/uk/help/returns_refund

  • Thump / Pop noise when switching on / off Zen Stone Plus with Spea

    Hello,
I just bought a 2Gb Zen Stone Plus with Speaker and I was disappointed by a very loud thump occurring when turning on/off the player. Moreover, starting with the player switched off, it is sufficient to press the on button (not necessarily until switching on completes) and the thump is there... each time I press the button! It is like an electrostatic discharge.
The thump is quite dangerous for my ears (for instance using high quality in-ear monitors) and for my 2. speakers system.
Is that normal? Should I return it's

Are you sure this isn't normal?
I hear a sort of electronic cracking sound in my right ear, quite loud and lower volume pop in my left ear after that when turning on the player. I also thought it was just cheap electronics.
I don't want to go trough the trouble of contacting the vendor for an exchange if a new one has the same thing.

  • Popping noise when using headphone

Hello, I have been noticing popping sound from wearing the headphone. It usually occurs when the keypad pops into view. It's rather subtle and I can't say I am annoyed by it, but I just want to see if other people has the similar experience.

Is there any lint or anything in the headphone jack port?? you may want to blow it out to clear it just in case...
I definitely don't hear it on mine I just paid real close attention while keyboard was told to come in and out several times... was in quite room too...
I'd bet on lint in the port or I guess maybe it's already time to do a restore and see if that helps any...might as well choose restore from back up just in case that works for you...that option will be less time consuming

  • What causes popping noise when I touch iPad 4 screen?

I notice that intermittently, my iPad 4 screen makes a popping sound or like an electric snap sound. What causes this?

You mean a sound different than the normal 'click'?  And only in certain areas of the screen?  What areas?  And are the areas the same regardless of what function you're using onthe phone, regardless of what app you're using?
This seems like it coud be a hardware issue with the display.  Try the following steps.
    Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • Bad clicking popping sound when macbook plugged into external speakers

I have a black MacBook Core Duo, a white Macbook Core 2 Duo, and a Macbook Pro Core Duo that are suddenly ALL exhibiting horrible behavior when plugged into external speakers using the 1/8th inch headphone output converted to RCA to connect to the speakers.
I have always known that sometime in the last year or 2, one of the OS updates introduced a popping noise when the audio system has been idle and then suddenly fires a sound again after being quiet for a while.
But now all 3 of these machines, all running 10.6.7 with all current available software updates are exhibiting a clicking / popping /crackling sound almost CONSTANTLY when hooked up to the same set of speakers I've had for years. I tested with other speakers just to make sure the noise is still there.
Every time someone goes on or offline in my ichat buddy list, the crackling noise that accompanies the typical buddy available/unavailable sound is extremely irritating.
Every time I hit the volume up or down button I hear the awful noise alone with the volume feedback sound. If I keep hitting volume up or down FAST repeatedly, the sound goes away. But the moment I stop doing anything for even 1-2 seconds, and then touch the volume up/down buttons again, the cracking sound returns.
I have no idea what software update introduced this problem or what the heck is going on. I have booted these machines from external drives with a fresh install of 10.6.7. I've tried 10.5.8. Nothing works.
It's like some kind of firmware has permanently screwed up the 1/8th inch output on all of these machines when hooked up to external speakers. And these are all completely different model laptops
I do not hear the noise through these laptops' internal speakers, or if I plug headphones directly into their headphone jacks.
I have had to install an M-Audio USB Micro onto my main laptop to use it's 1/8th inch stereo out to connect to my speakers in order to eliminate this horrible noise. But this should NOT be necessary and I am not satisfied with this fix as a permanent solution.
I'm astonished to find this problem on ALL THREE of these different laptops suddenly.
The Anti Pop program did not alleviate the problem. Please help. Apple please issue software fixes to get rid of these problems once and for all.

  • Popping noise with the X-fi extream mu

?I am getting popping noise when I play games with the x-fi card. Music and other applications run flawless and sounds great. I only get the noise while playing games. I have read all the troubleshooting ideas from this site and none seem to fix the problem. I have all the latest drivers for the bios, video cards, x-fi, and windows xp. The x-fi card is on its own IRQ. I have reinstalled the OS and drivers multiple times. I have turned down the hardware acceleration? for the video card. I have a 600 watt power supply ...and that should be enough power to run my system. I have everything turned off in the bios that I am not using. I have tried some more stuff ...just cant think of it at the moment...... I am running a Asus motherboard and have read that there is some problems with the 2 devices working together and if that is the case is there a fix out yet?...

CL have known about this problem for a long time now, and still havent done anything about it!!! Shows ya kind of how they work!!! They figure surely that they already sold us these soundcards, why should they spend any of those money on us fixing this... they can instead sell some more cards... Stupid CL... they just dont get it!! Message Edited by HaZe303 on 02-24-20060:57 AM

  • Switching Tracks in Rhythmbox Causes Popping Noise? [solved]

A friend and I recently installed Arch on a spare computer and really liked it, but we had a problem with the sound that was really annoying that we couldn't figure out how to fix. We followed the alsa wiki instructions and were able to get the sound working good for programs like Mplayer and Audacious, but Rhythmbox caused a loud scratching/popping noise when switching to different songs. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may have caused this, and ways it might be fixed?
    Thanks!

I don't use rhythm box, but I had a similar issue with amarok a while ago with songs that had been encoded with album art in their tags.  My issue was specifically iTunes encoded mp3s, but IIRC others reported the same issue with other programs, including easytag.  Stripping album art from all tags fixed the issue - frankly, I don't need album art attached to my music anyhow.  If you're talking about CD's, then I have no idea what the issue might be.

  • MacBook: line out noise when sleep mode

    Hi,
I have my MacBook hooked up to my hi-fi system with a line-out to cinch cable. whenever the macbook enters sleep mode or is turned off, a very loud noise is generated, as if I would have plugged the cable right off the computer.
Is there any way to circumvent this annoying noise? I fear that the permanent explosion-like-sound might damage my speakers.
    Thank you!
    Mark

thenk you for the answers so far. What I am doing at the moment is not perfect, because it does not work when I forget one step:
-I activate sleep mode only manually now
-before, I switch off the receiver (otherwise, the loud "pop" noise is still there)
I will try with a better quality-cable, but I can only imagine the sound quality of the loud "pop"-noise to be 'crystal-clear' with a better transmission (optical cable doesn't work on my system)
    Thank you,
    Mark

  • Get rid of parallels menu icons when in coherence mode?

    Hi everyone,
When in coherence mode, Parallels inserts 6 icons into the menu bar which can be a little annoying for people who value a simplistic menu bar.  I love Parallels and this is not a 'make or break' factor for using the wonderful invention.  However, I'm wondering if anyone has found a solution that allows users to remove these icons.  If so, if you could share it, I would be very grateful!
Thanks in advance for any help

Instead of using coherence mode just launch Parallels and Windows (or whatever OS you are using).  Then to move between this and Mac side use your control and right or left arrow on your keyboard to move between screens.
