Name the PDF file with a field name
Hi,
I'm new to ES2 and Form creation in LiveCycle, my knowledge in scripts is very less or none i can say, if any one out there could help me out with this i'd be greateful.
I have created a fillable PDF Form using LivecCycle ES2 and would like to know how to name the PDF file with a field value from the form when " save form " or " submit " button are clicked.
Thanks in advance.
Mithun.M.IYou can save the form with name generated from a field's value, but therefore you will have to install a folder level script first and design a custom save button in your form.
You cannot do this with the applications save or save as... buttons, and you also cannot rename a file on submit.
Here's an example form and a folder level script. (Maybe to complicated fdr newbies)

How to create pdf files with text field data
how to create pdf files with text field data
That looks like it should work, but it doesn't.
I opened the PDF I had created from Word in Acrobat (X Pro). Went to File > Properties. Selected "Change Settings". I then enabled "Restrict editing...", set a password, set "Printing Allowed" to "none", "Changes Allowed" to "none", and ensured that "Enable copying of text..." was disabled.
I saved the PDF file, closed Acrobat, opened the PDF in Reader, and I was still able to select text and graphical objects.
I reopened the PDF in Acrobat, and the document summart still shows everything as allowed. When I click on "show details" (from File > Properties) it shows the correct settings.
Any ideas? -
Populating a PDF form with database data
I would love to know how (if possible) to populate an Adobe PDF form with data pulled from an Access database.
Background
I have a registration form already created using Adobe LiveCycle which is used by people to fill in their details. With a built-in xml schema, the user saves the form and sends them to me. I extract the data into an xml document which I can then import in an Access database using VBA code.
The Need
When it comes time to re-register, much of the original data provided by the user has not changed. Rather than ask them to fill out the form all over again, I would like to send them their original data and they can update whichever fields they need to. With the xml schema built into the form, I would love to turn this form into a two-way avenue for both importing and exporting data. Is this possible?
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I have not provided enough information.
BrettYou can connect the form to the DB using anODBC connection. This functionality comes as part of Acrobat but the form must be Reader Extended by the full LiveCycle Server version of Reader Extension to allow this in Reader. In your case, if your system is the only on ethat will interact with the DB then this might be a viable solution (but you woudl have to use Acrobat). This solution woudl involve create an ODBC connection in your system then configuring the form to make use of that connection.
Does that make sense?

I/O error opening a pdf file with form fields, using itextsharp
Hi,
I'm using itextsharp PDFStamper to set the form fields in a pdf file. It works on my computer properly, but on the QA site and other developer's machine it only shows the values of the form fields, the original text does not show, and it gives the error message "An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly". Please does any one know what's causing this error and how to fix it?.
Thanks,
UyiI recommend you try tech support for the iTextSharp product (I believe
there is a mailing list). This forum is for questions about
understanding the PDF Specifications. You could try an Acrobat forum,
but I think the first option has a better chance of success.

Combining various PDF files with forms fields: How To?
Hi people.
I have a problem with my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and some PDFs.
Each file has a lot of form fields and they has the same name. When I try to combine allowed files in acrobat, the "combinator" throw a message adverting me that the fields are the same and will have the same content. The only posibility is to create a "PDF Folder". But I need to distribute a simple PDF file compatible with Acrobat Reader (and the most usual issue is ... Acrobat Reader 6). So...
Is there any possibility to create a single file from a PDF folder?
Thank you so much!Thank you so much for your quickly answer but... if this is the only way... then I have a very very very serious problem.
I have 45 PDF individual files (with two pages each one) and I need to generate a single file with my 45 files (90 pages). Each file has more than 30 fields...
What should I do?
Thanks! -
How to compare two separate PDF files with certain fields identical?
Does anyone know of a way that I could compare two separate PDF files containing the same information in certain locations? Please keep in mind that they contain different information as well. I know that it could be done with importing it to excel and running VBA to format the information to be similar and use formulas to validate information is correct, but this needs to be done very quickly with multiple files through out the day. One way to explain what type of PDF file this is, is think of excel: Column A and J contain the same information but B:I contain different information. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
This unfortunately was never answered but we found a different solution rather than comparing PDF's.

PDF Generation with database fields
Hi!
Well I have some questions and I was wondering if someone
would be kind enough to answer. Here it goes.
Scenario:
The company that I work for is a non-profit educational
institution. They wish to do a tax receipts project in which a
student can log on to our website and get a tax receipt for all the
courses they've take with us in the calendar year.
The data for the student resides in a SQL Server 2000
database table. The tax receipt has to be presented in a PDF
format. We have a PDF template that we have to use. Essentially,
the PDF template has to populated with values from the database.
Technical Environment: CF7, SQL 2K, Win 2003 Server, IIS 6.
Constraints: output has to be PDF format, can't upgrade to
CF8
Question 1:
Can a PDF document be populated with values from a database
in ColdFusion 7??
Question 2:
If so, o you know of a book/website in which this type of
work is detailed (a how-to)?
Question 3:
If the answer is "no" to the above, is there a tool that can
be used to accomplish this?
Thank you in advance! :)
Jolmes> Does anyone know if XPAAJ.jar is still available for CF7
users?
No, I do not. For forms, you could do something similar with
iText. An older version of it is built into MX 7. Here is an
adaptation of a simple java example from the iText site. Google for
more examples.

Is there a way to sort a PDF file with multiple pages by a specific field within the PDF? All pages have the same invoice format and i would like to sort by a field within and then print the documents. (Vendor, PO#, Date, ect.)
When you say field, do you mean specifically a form field, such as a text field? Or is the information regular text on the page?

Converting a Word document with form fields to become a form fillable PDF file with email
We are trying to convert a number of word(97,and 2000) documents but it never works correctly. The converted PDF file is missing fields and the fields it does convert is one character long. The idea was to have LiveCycle just convert it without anyone having the need to re-design it. They would only need to add a submit button and an email address to the PDF form. Is there something we are missing?
For the problem of submitting by email and still submitting a PDF file:
The stock "Submit by Email" button submits via XML. I think you can do one of two things to get it to work:
1) Use a regular "Button" instead of an "Email Submit Button". Set it's type to "Submit" in the Field tab; then on the Submit tab, use something like "mailto:name@company" for your email address in the Submit To URL box, and set the Submit As type to PDF.
2) Change the XML for your Email Submit button (in the XML Source view): You'll find something like,
<event name="event__click" activity="click">
<submit format="xml" textEncoding="UTF-8" target="mailto:name@company"/>
</event>
Change it to:
<event activity="click" name="event__click">
<submit format="pdf" textEncoding="UTF-16" xdpContent="pdf datasets xfdf" target="mailto:name@company"/>
</event>
I don't know if you need to change just the "Submit format" in the XML, or also add the xdpContent tag.
Hope that works,

How to save pdf file in database
Dear All,
my application is forms 6i and database is 8i,requirement is that how to save pdf file in database and users can view through formsI'll apologize up front for the length of this post. I have a few database procedures I created that write a file to a BLOB column in a table as well as retrieve the BLOB from the column after it stored there. I have successfully stored many different types of binary file to the database using these procedures - including PDF files. I have not used these procedures in a Form so I can confirm that they will work, but theoretically they should work. I'm including the code for each procedure in this posting - hence the apology for the long post! :-)
Also, since these procedures reside on the database you will need to use Forms TEXT_IO built-in package to write your file to the server before you can use these procedures to store and retrieve the file from the database.
These procedures reads and writes a binary file to a table called "LOB_TABLE." You will need to modify the procedure to write to your table.

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data
We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?
Thanks,
Bob KendallFor that kind of volume and unattended operation, you want InDesign Server – which is the server/high volume edition of INDD.
