Populating an Object within a PowerShell Class Method?

Here is the answer add it up above and declare the type as object.. lol
Powershellclass SQLString {
[string]$Database
[string]$ServerName
[string]$ConnectionString
[string]$Query
[string]$Columns
[object]$Values

So, forgive me if I miss use some terms but what I'm trying to do is populate a variable inside a method with objects. My assumption is that it's a string and when you input an object it returns null. Below is a snippet of the code. The first time $This.Vavlues is where I'm having some trouble. My goal is to give the method a user name and a table and it generates a SQL query for me. :)
Powershell [void] InsertQuery($Table,$Values) { $This.Values = Get-ADUser -Identity $Values -Properties * | select SamAccountName,UserPrincipalName,SID,Mail,DistinguishedName,lastLogon,Description $This.Values = "'" + $($This.Values.SamAccountName) + "'" + ',' + "'" + $($This.Values.UserPrincipalName) + "'" + ',' + "'" + $($This.Values.SID) + "'" + ',' + "'" + $($This.Values.Mail) + "'" + ',' + "'" + $($This.Values.DistinguishedName) + "'" + ...

  • How to create an object within the same class???

    hi im just a newbie
    i v been always creating an object from the main class..
    but how to create an object inside the same class??
    i got main and students class
    the main got an array
    Students[] stu = new Students[]
    and i got
    stu[i] = new Students(id,name);
    i++;
    but i wanna do these things inside the Students class..
    i tried ..but i got errors.....
    how to do this
    .

    javaexpert, :)
    I really have no idea what you are trying to do since you say you've always been creating an object from the main class, yet you always want to create an object inside the same class.
    I'll assume that you have an object in the main class that you are trying to access from the Students class.
    If you are trying to access objects that are contained within the main class FROM the Students class, then know that there are two ways of doing so, one being static, and the other dynamic (look up definitions if unclear):
    1.) make the objects in the main class both static and public and access the the objects using a convention similiar to: Main.object; It's important to note that Main is the name of your main class, and object is a static object. There are better ways of doing this by using gettter/setter methods, but I'll omit that tutorial.
    2.) Create a new instance of the main class and access the objects using a similiar fashion: Main myInstance = new Main(); myInstance.myObject;
    You should really use getter and setter methods but I'll omit the code. In terms of which approach is better, step one is by far.
    I don't mean to be condecending, but you should really brush up on your programming skills before posting to this forum. This is a fundamenetal concept that you will encounter time and time again.

  • Object within Constructor with a method?

    Hi,
    Just trying to understand java code example and its various parts. i.e fields, constructor, methods etc. It is a Blackberry application.
    I am mainly wondering about the part with the " HorizontalFieldManager(USE_ALL_WIDTH )". This has a method attached to it. So if this is the case it is an 'Object' within the UserInterface 'Constructor' that has a 'Method'?
    And the semicolon at the end is not normally present on Methods is it?
    Thanks.
    //// EXAMPLE CODE ///
    public class UserInterface extends UiApplication {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    UserInterface theApp = new UserInterface();
    theApp.enterEventDispatcher();
    //constructor for UserInterface?
    public UserInterface() {
    pushScreen(new UserInterfaceScreen());
    //UserInterfaceScreen class
    final class UserInterfaceScreen extends MainScreen {
    //fields or variables
    HorizontalFieldManager _fieldManagerTop;
    String _exchange, _convertedStr, _euroStr;
    double _euros, _pounds, _converted;
    int displayed = 0;
    //constructor?
    public UserInterfaceScreen() {
    super();
    LabelField title = new LabelField("Euro Calc",LabelField.ELLIPSIS | LabelField.USE_ALL_WIDTH);
    setTitle(title);
    _fieldManagerTop = new HorizontalFieldManager();
    // An object with a method?
    _fieldManagerGround = new HorizontalFieldManager(USE_ALL_WIDTH ) {
    protected void paintBackground(Graphics graphics)
    graphics.setBackgroundColor(0x00382B79);
    graphics.clear();
    super.paint(graphics);
    };Edited by: duxbuz on Jul 9, 2009 3:20 AM

    Hi,
    this is a way to override the HorizontalFieldManager.paintBackground method whithout declaring a subclass inheriting from HorizontalFieldManager. See ANONYMOUS CLASSES in the following Link.

  • How to create multiple objects within a class

    I have a item.lvclass which has an item.ctl (contains a cluster of class private data).  I need to add another object (item2.ctl) within that same class so that I can reuse the code for that class.
    So how do you create additional objects within the same class?

    Well... right now...  I've cornered myself going down this path:  http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/LVOOP-Interfaces/idc-p/1314637#M8918
    Seems like the solution in the idea was not implemented yet....
    Okay.  I will try to describe the situation differently...
    Let's say I have a Car.lvclass
    I want to have two objects:  sedan & roadster
    both have similar properties, but also have different properties:
    4 doors vs 2 doors
    hardtop vs convertible
    silver vs white (color)
    I want the two objects to be of the same class so that they can share the same private and public VI's.  As a matter of fact, I want to have both objects in the VI's within the Car.lvclass.

  • Comparison of all coding within a development class

    Hi together,
    I like to have a remote compare of all objects within a development class. Result should be a list with all objects with differences and (if possible) the transportation number where the compared coding is stored in.
    Do anyone have an idea if such a report exists?
    Thanks in advanced & regards

    Unfortunately this really boils down to HTML layout troubleshooting. Best advice is to try different things to see what gets you closer to a solution, and what doesn't.

  • Best practice for method calling on objects within a collection.

    Hi guys
    As you may be aware, based on my other thread here. I'm designing a card game in Java. I was hoping for some advice on the best practise on how methods should be called on a custom Object contained within a custom Collection.
    I have an instance variable for the Deck class as follows: List<Card> deckWhen creating an instance of the class I use deck = new ArrayList<Card>();So I have a Deck which only holds Card objects. My question is, for the Card methods, should I call them on the Card objects after 'getting' the Cards from the Deck or should I write methods within the Deck class which handles this method calling. Code explanation is as follows:
    Deck standardDeck = new Deck();I want to retrieve the suit value of a card within the deck. Is this the best way to do it this way:
    standardDeck.getCardAt(50).getSuit();
    //getCardAt is a method within the Deck class, getSuit() is a method within the Card classor this way:
    standardDeck.getSuitForCardAt(50);
    //getSuitForCardAt() is a method within the Deck class. This method calls the getSuit() method within its method body.Cheers for any help guys.

    Hey Saish
    Thanks for the response.
    My Card class does indeed override hashCode(), equals() and toString().
    The reason I am asking a card from the deck for its Suit is simply because of the rules of the game being played. The game I made is a 'Card Shredding' game where a player attempts to remove as many cards from their hand during each turn. The first to remove all their cards is the winner.
    When the game starts, two decks are created. A standard 52 card deck and an empty deck. Then 8 cards are dealt to each player and one card is dealt into the empty deck. The suit and value of the card on the empty deck called the 'shredding deck' dictates which moves are valid during each turn; The played card must match the Suit or the Value of the current card on the 'shredding deck'
    For example:
    Card on the empty deck = 8 of Spades
    The only card from a players hand which can be removed are any Spade or an Eight of any suit.
    Going back to the Deck.getSuitOfCardAtIndex(int index) , this method is needed because both the AI player and human player need to have the ability to take a look at the cards which have been added to the 'shredding deck'. Again this is because of the rules of the game. Therefore I need a method to take a look at the Suit and Value for any card in the 'shredding deck'.
    Taking all this into account, so far I have the following in my Deck class. Please comment on my design so far. As you can see I've tried to follow the Law Of Demter by creating many little wrapper methods. I understand totally wh getters and setters are bad but I cannot come up with a design solution to achieve what I need to based on the rules of the game without users getters. - Any tips on this would be great.
         public Card dealCard()
              Card cardToDeal = deck.remove(0);
              return cardToDeal;
         public void addCard(Card usedCard) //This method is used to add 'used' cards to the deck.
              deck.add(usedCard);
         public Card getFaceCard() //Returns the current face up playing card
              Card faceCard = deck.get(deck.size()-1);
              return faceCard;
         public int getFaceCardValue()
              int faceCardValue = deck.get(deck.size()-1).getValue();
              return faceCardValue;
         public int getFaceCardSuit()
              int faceCardSuit = deck.get(deck.size()-1).getSuit();
              return faceCardSuit;
         public String getFaceCardName()
              String faceCardName = deck.get(deck.size()-1).toString();
              return faceCardName;
         public Card getCardAt(int position) //Returns the current face up playing card
              Card card = deck.get(position);
              return card;
         public int getFaceCardValueAt(int position)
              int cardValue = deck.get(position).getValue();
              return cardValue;
         public int getFaceCardSuitAt(int position)
              int cardSuit = deck.get(position).getSuit();
              return cardSuit;
         public String getFaceCardNameAt(int position)
              String cardName = deck.get(position).toString();
              return cardName;
         public int getDeckSize() //When recycling cards, the size of the deck is needed to determine the best time to add more cards.
              return deck.size();
         }

  • ActiveX in BradySoft (CodeSoft) - What Class/Method/Object's would I use to send variable form data to BradySoft?

    What Class/Method/Object's would I use to send variable form data to BradySoft? I have a basic label setup in BradySoft and I want to send it variable form data (a serial number) from Labview ActiveX. I have attached Brady's ActiveX programmers guide but can't figure out what to use for this. P.S. I would call Brady or TekLynx tech support about this but they have a strict policy whereas BradySoft supports ActiveX but their tech support doesn't provide programming help with it. I figured I'd try the NI Forums.

    Aaronb, I presume by publishing an ActiveX programmers manual the BradySoft software installs Active X objects. You may choose to interact with these objects within LabVIEW using Active X controls. The following link will provide a starting point for LabVIEW help topics on Active X communication: Select ActiveX Object Dialog Box

  • A function module or class/method to look up repository objects?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know of a class/method or a function module that returns back objects of a namespace in the integration repository.
    For example, I would like to be able to retrieve all the message interfaces of a particular namespace.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Duke,
    I am not sure about the function module. But you can look up all the objects with their IDs using transaction sxi_cache.

  • Static Classes/Methods vs Objects/Instance Classes/Methods?

    Hi,
    I am reading "Official ABAP Programming Guidelines" book. And I saw the rule:
    Rule 5.3: Do Not Use Static Classes
    Preferably use objects instead of static classes. If you don't want to have a multiple instantiation, you can use singletons.
    I needed to create a global class and some methods under that. And there is no any object-oriented design idea exists. Instead of creating a function group/modules, I have decided to create a global class (even is a abstract class) and some static methods.So I directly use these static methods by using zcl_class=>method().
    But the rule above says "Don't use static classes/methods, always use instance methods if even there is no object-oriented design".
    The book listed several reasons, one for example
    1-) Static classes are implicitly loaded first time they are used, and the corresponding static constructor -of available- is executed. They remain in the memory as long as the current internal session exists. Therefore, if you use static classes, you cannot actually control the time of initialization and have no option to release the memory.
    So if I use a static class/method in a subroutine, it will be loaded into memory and it will stay in the memory till I close the program.
    But if I use instance class/method, I can CREATE OBJECT lo_object TYPE REF TO zcl_class then use method lo_object->method(), then I can FREE  lo_object to delete from the memory. Is my understanding correct?
    Any idea? What do you prefer Static Class OR Object/Instance Class?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tuncay

    @Naimesh Patel
    So you recommend to use instance class/methods even though method logic is just self-executable. Right?
    <h3>Example:</h3>
    <h4>Instance option</h4>
    CLASS zcl_class DEFINITION.
      METHODS add_1 IMPORTING i_input type i EXPORTING e_output type i.
      METHODS subtract_1 IMPORTING i_input type i EXPORTING e_output type i.
    ENDCLASS
    CLASS zcl_class IMPLEMENTATION.
      METHOD add_1.
        e_output = i_input + 1.
      ENDMETHOD.
      METHOD subtract_1.
        e_output = i_input - 1.
      ENDMETHOD.
    ENDCLASS
    CREATE OBJECT lo_object.
    lo_object->add_1(
      exporting i_input = 1
      importing e_output = lv_output ).
    lo_object->subtract_1(
      exporting i_input = 2
      importing e_output = lv_output2 ).
    <h4>Static option</h4>
    CLASS zcl_class DEFINITION.
      CLASS-METHODS add_1 IMPORTING i_input type i EXPORTING e_output type i.
      CLASS-METHODS subtract_1 IMPORTING i_input type i EXPORTING e_output type i.
    ENDCLASS
    CLASS zcl_class IMPLEMENTATION.
      METHOD add_1.
        e_output = i_input + 1.
      ENDMETHOD.
      METHOD subtract_1.
        e_output = i_input - 1.
      ENDMETHOD.
    ENDCLASS
    CREATE OBJECT lo_object.
    lo_object->add_1(
    zcl_class=>add_1(
      exporting i_input = 1
      importing e_output = lv_output ).
    lo_object->subtract_1(
    zcl_class=>subtract_1(
      exporting i_input = 2
      importing e_output = lv_output2 ).
    So which option is best? Pros and Cons?

  • No access to method from within the same class

    Hey there.
    First I have to excuse my English for I'm german and just learning...
    Ok, my problem is as follows. I have a class called JDBC_Wrapper it includes the method sendQuery(String query). When I call this method from within another class (where 'wrapper' is my instance of JDBC_Wrapper) it works fine. For example:
    wrapper.sendQuery("SELECT * FROM myDataBase");
    But then I have written a method called getNumRows() into my JDBC_Wrapper class.
    This method should send a query through sendQuery(Strin query) but when calling getNumRows() it says: "java.sql.SQLException: [FileMaker][ODBC FileMaker Pro driver][FileMaker Pro]Unbekannter Fehler." (Unbekannter Fehler -> Unknown Exception). What could that be?
    I'm using jdk2 sdk 1.4.2 with BlueJ. My database is Filemaker Pro 6. The ODBC/JDBC connector works fine.
    BerndZack

    This is within my JDBC_Wrapper class:
    public ResultSet sendQuery(String query)
            if(connected)
                try
                    Statement s = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
                    ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery(query);
                    return rs;
                catch(Exception e)
                    System.out.println(e);
            else
                //System.out.println("There is no connection to the datasource!");
            return null;
    public int getNumRows()
            try
                ResultSet r;
                r = this.sendQuery("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM " + table_name); // At this line the error occurs
                r.next();
                return (int)r.getInt(1);
            catch(Exception e)
                System.out.println(e.getMessage());
                return -1;
    }When I call sendQuery() from within another class it works, but calling getNumRows()
    throws an exception.

  • The 'this' object in class methods

    The book I'm reading says that the 'this' object needs to be initialized in every class method. Does it have to be explicitly initialized or can it be implicit? and if it can be implicit, how would you do that?(code wise)

    Actually, I think it is correct to say that 'this' needs to be initialized. In a constructor, you cannot make a reference to the 'this' reference until the super constructor gets called. If you do not explicitly call the super constructor, then a call to the no argument super constructor gets inserted. If there isn't a no argument super constructor, then you must either make a call to one of the super constructors that is defined, or make a call to another constructor in that class. Until after that point, the 'this' reference is not valid.

  • How to get class name and method name within a class method?

    Hi,
    In a java class, is it possible to get its class name and the class method?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

    I mean whether there's any built-in command that will
    return the class name instead of code it ourself, for
    easier maintenance.
    Possible?
    this.getClass().getName();

  • Validating a method object whether it is a bean class method

    I have a class that is loaded dynamically using URLClassLoader. It is required to validate whether it is a valid bean class' method. i.e. if it is set method, it should start with <set>xxx and if it is get method, it should be like <get>xxx or <is>xxx. I dont want to make it with if conditions and I believe there should be a way to validate if that class satisfies java bean naming specification ( for class/method). Any help is much appreciated.

    kajbj  wrote:
    How would you be able to verify that? Beans can have other methods as well. Well.. in my case, I want to ensure that that does not contain "other methods" and only getters/setters. It should be just a bean and nothing more. There could be cases when a setter method is written like "setTablename" ( note: camel case missing).
    I prefer to use this one.
    public class Bean {
        String tableName;
        public String getTableName() {
            return tableName;
        public void setTableName(String tableName) {
            this.tableName = tableName;
    try {
         BeanInfo info = Introspector.getBeanInfo( Bean.class );
         PropertyDescriptor[] pd  = info.getPropertyDescriptors();
         for (int i=0;i<pd.length;i++) {
              System.out.println( pd.getName() +","+pd[i].getReadMethod());
    if(pd[i].getReadMethod()==null) {
    throw new Exception("Not a bean");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    }This code works well, when 1. members not in camel case,
    2. methods not in camel case. But when it comes to method , it throws exception for public String getTablename() {
    return tableName;
    }But it doesnt throw exception for public String gettableName() {
    return tableName;
    } I predicted exception here. Correct me If I am wrong.

  • Overriding VO Impl class methods to populate parent-child VO

    Hi All,
    I need to populate parent child VOs by giving webservice calls from respective impl classes.
    Scenario : Lets say suppose i have 2 VOs as DepartmentVO and Employee VO with a viewLink on departmentId. Taking a particular instance, in Department table there are 2 rows and for each parent row we have 2 child rows in Employee.
    Webservice Structure : I have a parent Object and inside that parent object i have list of child objects
    e.g : public class DepartmentDTO{
    private List<EmployeeDTO> employeeList;
    After that i have extended Impl classes for both VOs and overriden method i.e. "executeQueryForCollection" to give a webservice call and get back response of DepartmentDTO[] with List<EmployeeDTO> inside it.
    In DepartmenntVOImpl class i have overriden "createRowFromResultSet" which populates the parent VO with the number of parent records returned from webservice.
    Code for Department impl class is :
    protected ViewRowImpl createRowFromResultSet(Object qc,
    ResultSet resultSet) {
    Iterator deptIter= getPackageClassIterator(qc);
    ViewRowImpl r = createNewRowForCollection(qc);
    DepartmentDTO curDTO = (DepartmentDTO )deptIter.next();
    populateAttributeForRow(r,
    findAttributeDef("DeptId").getIndex(),
    curDTO.geDeptId() );
    populateAttributeForRow(r,
    findAttributeDef("DeptName").getIndex(),
    curDTO.getDeptName() );
    return r;
    Similarly i have overridden "createRowFromResultSet" method in EmployeeVOImpl to populate the child VO(this need to be populated from the list object inside parent object reponse)
    Code as follows :
    protected ViewRowImpl createRowFromResultSet(Object qc,
    ResultSet resultSet) {
    Iterator empItr= getPackageClassIterator(qc);
    ViewRowImpl r = createNewRowForCollection(qc);
    DepartmentDTO curDTO1 = (DepartmentDTO )empItr.next();
    List<EmployeeDTO> list = curDTO1.getEmployeesList();
    for (EmployeeDTO curDTO : list) {
    populateAttributeForRow(r,
    findAttributeDef("EmpId").getIndex(),
    curDTO.getEmpId());
    populateAttributeForRow(r,
    findAttributeDef("EmpName").getIndex(),
    curDTO.getEmpName() );
    populateAttributeForRow(r,
    findAttributeDef("EmpLastName").getIndex(),
    curDTO.getEmpLastName() );
    populateAttributeForRow(r,
    findAttributeDef("DeptId").getIndex(),
    curDTO.getDeptId());
    return r;
    Though the code looks simple and correct but the child records are not getting populated correctly. Am not sure if the code implementation to populate parent child VOs from webservcie is correct or not.
    Would appreciate for Help or valuable Suggestions.

    rval = false;javac whines: "local variable rval is accessed from within inner class; needs to be declared final"
    How do I assign to rval if it's declared final?
    Or at the very least, how do I get rid of this error (by all means, hack fixes are okay; this is not C/C++, I don't have to use sanity checks)?
    I'm trying to make a messagebox in java without using JOptionPane and I'm trying to encapsulate it in one method.
    And I'm far too lazy to make a JNI wrapper for GTK.

    Or at the very least, how do I get rid of this errorIf you don't want the side effect, then just use an inner class variable or a local variable.
    If you want the side effect then use a named class and provide it with a getter and setter.
    Finally, in this specific case because you're using an array object reference, you could probably just initialise the array object in the outer class. I.e.
    // Outer class
    final boolean[] rval = new boolean[1];
    // Anonymous Inner class
    rval[0] = true; // No need to intialize the array.
    I declared it as an array so that it would be a tristate boolean (null, true, false) such that accessing it before initialization from the actionPerformed would trigger a NullPointerException.
    Flowchart:
    is button pressed? <-> no
    |
    V
    Yes->set and return
    Is there a way to accomplish this without creating a tribool class?
