Populating Drop Down Box

I am working on a form for my company. I am trying to populate the drop down box list from entries in a previous text field. For example I have a text field that directs users to type in a list of items. I want these items to then automatically generate into a drop box field. I have researched and tried for days with no success. The closest I have come is setting the drop box value to the text field but all this does is copy the list exactly into the drop box visible field...it does not set the values as selectable options. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Gina,
Here is some sample code for using a ComboBox in a JSP from an EditCurrentRecord bean. This particular example uses a query, you can also populate combo boxes, list boxes, radio buttons and checkboxes from a static list. See the JavaDocs for the EditCurrentRecord bean.
<jsp:useBean id="RowEditor" class="oracle.jbo.html.databeans.EditCurrentRecord" scope="request">
<%
RowEditor.initialize(application, session , request, response, out, "wt_bc_WT_bcModule.WalkthroughEngineSlidesView");
RowEditor.setTargetUrl("WalkthroughEngineSlidesView_SubmitInsertForm.jsp");
RowEditor.createNewRow();
RowEditor.setReleaseApplicationResources(true);
RowEditor.useComboBox("Presname","select pres_name,pres_name from wt_info","PRES_NAME","PRES_NAME");
RowEditor.render();
%>
</jsp:useBean>

  • Populating drop-down box from Server XML

    Hello all,
    I'm working on a REST - Lightroom interface, which I'm going to document as expose as a way for anyone to upload pictures to their site.
    Anyway, I need to populate a drop-down with the story names and ids from this XML. Any ideas? I'm a top actionscripter/ruby/etc, but not too familiar with Lua. Looks good though.

    Hope someone can help :)

    Hi there,
    I'm also facing an identical problem and would also like the solution. I've thought about using JavaScript in conjunction with JSP to populate the second drop down box dynamically. But first I need to retrieve the values in the first drop down box from a database and subsequently the 2nd drop down box - I'm thinking that a for loop needs to be used somehow. amishpg, I will let you know If I'm successful.

  • Drop-down box population

    I have tried to research this situation through the forums, but all the answers I've found are ... not quite 'it'.
    I'm working in a relatively small company, producing forms to automate a good deal of the workflow. ( I used to be a Notes Dev and Admin, back in the day, so I'm very familiar with workflow and automating forms but this company is small enough that a lot of the backend processing is ... missing or in 'long term development'.) I have an expense report type form where I need to be able to have the users select the type of expense from a drop down box to start their line items, and then use the other kinds of fields to fill in the other data. However, the drop-down needs to be at least vaguely dynamic as specific projects/work details come on and get removed. Managing more than a dozen lines by hand is tedious and annoying.
    Is there any way to popluate a drop down box's list with a hidden field on the form? It would save me a LOT of trouble if I could enter the data into a multi-line field and have the form auto-populate with that data instead. Barring that, is there a 'fast' way to clear out a list for a drop-down field without using the little minus sign to remove each item individually?
    Many, many thanks in advance.

    I know this is a over a year old, but I needed to populate a drop down list with over 400 entries, so I downloaded the above form and it would not hold enough entries. So I edited it and made the file 100 inches long and it had more than enough room for my entries I needed. It may well hold almost 1000 entries, I did not check. but here is a link to the longer form for those of you who need to enter many more entries.
    https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=eeZA7ZCGHSy9VJuQ1ZQqVQ
    Thanks to George Johnson for the wonderful first edition that has work well for many I am sure. This is his form only much longer to allow more entries.

  • Drop Down Boxes not Populating on the SCM business package through EP7

    Hi ,
           All would greatly appreciate if any of you out there has experinced this problem
    We are using the Enterprise Portal which has recently configured using https or SSL. we are using the Business package SCM 5.0.
    When we use the SCM system directly and we go to any iViews we have all the drop down boxes work perfectly well . If the user selects the Value help (drop down boxes) they all show the value and then the selected value populates back to main screen. However, using the Enterprise Portal if the User goes to the SCM business Package iView the value help shows up all the value, but the value that is selected does not populate back to main screen.
    Now again if we use http as opposed to https we do not have any issue.
    Thanks . Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

    I don't have a clue, but figured I might make a suggestion. Did you touch and hold the pick box? Hope that works for ya.

  • Hebrew fonts from drop-down box not displaying in text box.

    I am using InDesign CS 5.5 on a Mac 10.8.4.
    When in ID, the fonts I am seeing on the Font dropdown menu when I try to use in a text box are not displaying correctly. They only display as boxes. The fonts are in the Hebrew language. They are properly installed in the FontBook.
    Please help!! Thank you.

    Reema,
    I followed most of your steps. I have a question reg. step 3 ie populating data in node 1.
    Here is my code:
    method WDDOINIT .
    types: begin of zs,
    zktokd type kna1-ktokd,
    end of zs.
    data: handle1 type ref to if_wd_context_node,
    begin of zstruct,
    zktokd type kna1-ktokd,
    end of zstruct,
    zitab type table of zs.
    handle1 = wd_context->get_child_node( name = 'NODE1' ).
    *select ktokd into corresponding fields of zstruct from kna1.
    *append zstruct to zitab.
    *endselect.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Sold-to party'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Goods recipient'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Payer'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Bill-to party'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Prospective Customer'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Competitor'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Sales partners'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Hierarchy Node'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Named List of Accounts'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Distribution center'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    zstruct-zktokd = 'Payer'.
    append zstruct to zitab.
    handle1->bind_table( new_items = zitab ).
    endmethod.
    Please let me know if this is the best way to populate the node and then bind the table values from the node to the drop down box.
    Thanks and Regards.

  • Adding '-Select-' on top for a drop down box

    Hello,
    I have a drop down box mapped to a field in the context, the field has some domain values and are populated in the run time. but I have to add another top row '-Select-' indicating to the client that the field need to be selected.
    To add 'Select', I can write a method in the WDDOINIT method of the controller and also loop through the domain values and append to the drop down box. But I don't want to do too much of d/b interaction, as the fields are anyway loaded to the dropbox by mapping.
    Is there a way in web dynpro, that we could do like in normal ABAP reports, to Loop at the screen and identify all the drop down boxes and add a 'select' row at the top?
    I really appreciate any help.
    Thank you
    KV.

    Hi Kiran,
    Can you make your requirement more clear to me?
    As much I understand from your message is that you want to add a dynamic Text on the top of Dropdown.Like Select the field need to be selected.
    from where you will get this field information?
    what message you want to add?
    If you have the field information then
    (a)Create a textView on the top of Dropdown
    (b) Bind it's property "Text" to the context attribute say Text .
    (c) now set this value like
    wdcontext.currentcontextelement().setText("Select "+field);
    If this is not the right interpretation of your problem then please explain it in detail and tell me step by step what you want to do?
    Regards,

  • How do I use Javascript to populate a text field based on a selection from a drop down box?

    Greetings,
    I have virtually no experience with JavaScript and I am trying to figure out how to add some basic automation features to an Adobe form.  I have a drop down box called "Hospital_Name" that will contain approximately 7 possible selections.  When the user makes a selection, I would like to have the text field (called "Hospital_Address") below the drop down box populate with the corresponding address for the selection.  I have the "Hospital_Address" text field configured for multiple lines and would like the address to have a line break between the street address and the city/state/zip.
    For example, if the user selected "Hospital 1", the text field would display:
    123 Main St
    Anytown, CA 12345
    Any help or examples you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    You have the element names within the object within brackets.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.
    // Place all pre-population data into a single data structure
    var Location = {
    "--Hospital--":{ line1: " ", line2: " " },
    "Bellevue Medical Center":{ line1: "2500 BMC Drive", line2: "Bellevue, NE 68123" },
    "CHI Bergan Mercy":{ line1: "7500 Mercy Road", line2: "Omaha, NE 68124" },
    "CHI Immanuel":{ line1: "6901 N. 72nd Street", line2: "Omaha, NE 68122" },
    "CHI Lakeside":{ line1: "16901 Lakeside Hills Court", line2: "Omaha, NE 68130" },
    "CHI Midlands":{ line1: "11111 S. 84th Street", line2: "Papillion, NE 68046" },

    "Nebraska Medical Center":{ line1: "4400 Emile Drive", line2: "Omaha, NE 68105" }
    // some debugging code to see location names;
    console.show();console.clear():
    for(I in Location) {
    console.println(I);
    // end debugging code;
    function SetFieldValues(Hospital_Name) {
        this.getField("AddLine1").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line1;
        this.getField("AddLine2").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line2;
    This is not a beginners task but requires a fair amount of knowledge about the structure of objects, defining strings, and structure of arrays.
    Are you sure you have all the field names correctly spelled and capitalized?
    Do you get any error in the JavaScript console?
    Just trying the line that defines the "Location", I get the following error:
    SyntaxError: invalid property id
    1:Console:Exec
    undefined
    All the form field in a PDF are processed by using JavaScript and any error in any script will stop JavaScript processing.
    It might help to have a link to the problem form.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.
    // Place all pre-population data into a single data structure
    var Location = {
    "--Hospital--":{ line1: " ", line2: " " },
    "Bellevue Medical Center":{ line1: "2500 BMC Drive", line2: "Bellevue, NE 68123" },

  • Dynamically create drop down box with JSP

    Hi,
    I hope this is not a repeat post, I have search the forum and a posting has not jumped out at me. I am making a jsp that dynamically constructs a custom SQL query.
    I have a number of text boxes with an id, my jsp page calls a servlet, the servlet reads the contorl id and the value to build the query - this works great. However, there's a large text input box which receives a number of extra conditions - this text box receives the input in the following format:
    searchAttributeName1,searchAttributeValue1;searchAttributeName2,searchAttributeValue2
    This is functional, however, it's a bit rubbish as the user has to know the special recognised attributeNames. What I would like to have is some sort of criteria control. This would consist of a drop down box populated from the servlet, a text input for the value and a button to add another criteria control. so the user could build up the number of query criteria. The drop down box ensures they cannot select the wrong keyword, pressing the add criteria button adds a new drop down box and text box pair to the screen.
    An example of this I recently saw was at Intel's jobs search web site https://jobs.intel.com/jobs/jobs.iccw - see that for example.
    Has anyone got any ideas on how to achieve this? I initially thought use jsp scripting (there is no restriction against this) but I need to use javascript I'm guessing as the button click triggers adding a new combo box. Another idea was to use styles and tables to hide the other drop down boxes but this seems like a real hack that I'd like to avoid. I can do with with .NET i hope java can deliver!
    Any ideas are much appreciated - I am a novice with java web development so please, any examples thoroughly explain (no need to explain populating the drop down box - there seem to be plenty of posts on this).
    Thanks for any help or ideas on this issue -

    Gina,
    Here is some sample code for using a ComboBox in a JSP from an EditCurrentRecord bean. This particular example uses a query, you can also populate combo boxes, list boxes, radio buttons and checkboxes from a static list. See the JavaDocs for the EditCurrentRecord bean.
    <jsp:useBean id="RowEditor" class="oracle.jbo.html.databeans.EditCurrentRecord" scope="request">

    RowEditor.createNewRow();
    RowEditor.setReleaseApplicationResources(true);

    RowEditor.render();

  • Web template - Drop Down Box options - Issue

    <b>Requirement:</b> We need drop downboxes for Fiscal Period and Version in our web template. When the query is run, users will choose one fiscal period and one budget version (there are multiple budget versions - 1. Original Budget, 2. Revised Budget 3. Consensus)
    After the query is run, users should be able to see data for any of the past 6 periods and any of the budget versions. So in the drop down list for fiscal period, he should see previous 6 periods and in the drop down for Budgets, they should see all the budget versions.
    If the read mode is set to "Posted values", then only the values user chooses for the variables  at run time will be shown. If the read mode is set to "Dimension table" it'll show all the available periods from the transactional data, which is unacceptable. We also tried the option "Can be changed during Query Navigation" but it will not work the version drop down box as it'll show all the available versions (actual, plan, forecast along with the different budgets)...
    So, is there any other way of solving this issue? By any Javascript?
    <i>This is what I did for the Fiscal Period drop down, but then the solution is not complete.</i>
    For the Fiscal Period variable, I created a new variable and checked the option "Can be changed during Navigation". Then the drop down will be populated with all the possible values. This is how the Fiscal year/ Period combo will work. We'll have two variables. Fiscal year is fixed and we won't have a drop down box for it. So user can not change the year after the query is run. But he can see data for any of the 12 periods of the year he selected.
    But there is a catch. This is not exactly what we are looking for. For example, if the user initially selects Year 2005 and period 10, then he can see all the previous 9 period of year 2005 (also periods 11 and 12). No problem there. But If the user initially selects year 2005 and Period 1, then he expects to see previous periods. But since year is fixed, when he selects period 12 from the drop down list, it'll show him period 12 of 2005 instead of 2004.
    To avoid that problem, we can also put a drop down box for year, but that will become too complicated, as the all the possible years will show up in the drop down. Still trying to figure out a solution around it. Also same problem arises for Version. We only want to see two versions of the Budget. But it'll show them all the possible versions including forecast, actual etc.
    Any insight is highly appreciated.
    Gova

    Hi.
    I has the same problem working on BID.
    Either you need to save the template with a new name or do it under BIP.
    It worked after for me.
    That's why I only do my templates under BIP now.
    I guess a new support package corrects this error.

  • Can somebody help me with drop down box in STRUTS?

    Hi GURUs:
    I am doing a drop down box with Struts, and I have seen previous post on the forum regarding how to do that.
    Basically I have 2 classes
    InquiryAction and InquiryResult.jsp
    here is the code snippet from InquriyAction
    public class InquiryAction
        extends Action {
      public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping,
                                   ActionForm actionForm,
                                   HttpServletRequest request,
                                   HttpServletResponse response) {
        InquiryForm form = (InquiryForm) actionForm;
        if ( request.getParameter("submitting") == null ) {
          return mapping.findForward("inquiry");
        /** @todo get parameters and do a search **/
        /** @todo put returned serviceResult or whatever into session/request **/
        ArrayList inquiryResults = new ArrayList();
        inquiryResults.add(new InquiryResultDisplayBean("005001", "00656992",
            "04/01/02", "104.15", "AD", "Name1", "Name2", "5"));
        inquiryResults.add(new InquiryResultDisplayBean("005001", "00729912",
            "04/02/22", "55.20", "GB", "Name2", "Name2", "7"));
        request.setAttribute("inquiryResults", inquiryResults);
        request.setAttribute("hasMore", new Boolean(true));
        return mapping.findForward("results");
    }and here is where I do the population of the drop down box in my JSP code
    <td class ='resultd'>
      <html:select property="PRKey"><logic:iterate id='transaction' collection='<%= request.getAttribute("inquiryResults") %>'>
    <html : option value="<bean:write name='transaction' property='PRKey'/>" >
         <bean:write name='transaction' property='PRKey'/>
    </html:option>
    </logic:iterate>
    </html:select>
    </td>                                 However when i test the JSP page on my local app server, i got the following error:
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Cannot find bean under name org.apache.struts.taglib.html.BEAN

    at jsp_servlet.__inquiryresults._jspService(__inquiryresults.java:544)
    I did bind the "inquiryResults" with an arrayList, can somebody tell me what is wrong? thanks...

    First: You can't nest tag library tags within tag library tags, unfortunately. So this:
    <html:option value="<bean:write name='transaction' property='PRKey'/>" > ...for example, is a no-go. You'd have to write it like this:
    <html:option value="<%= transaction.getPRKey() %>" > ...Second: The easiest way to do this is if the value and label properties of the InquiryResultDisplayBean objects are proper Java bean fields, meaning PRKey field has getPRKey() method. In that case, you can do this:
    <jsp:useBean id="inquiryResults" class="full.package.InquiryResultDisplayBean" scope="request" />
    <html:select property="PRKey">
    <html:options collection="inquiryResults" property="PRKey" labelProperty="PRKey"/>
    </html:select>

  • Drop Down Box Choose A Name and Have only the first name show up

    I am creating a form for health care.
    I have a drop down box with names of Physicians... their full names so they can be easily identified. And then subsequent fields that will be populated based off of the choice. However What I need is that after the full name from the drop down list is selected than only the Dr's First name shows up in the box to be distributed through out the file. All the rest of the information is already in using this Java:
    switch(this.rawValue){
        case "MD":
            form1.Page1.Physician1LastName.rawValue = " Acccc";
            form1.Page1.Physician1Number.rawValue = "1111111111";
            form1.Page1.Physician1Fax.rawValue = "2222222222";
            form1.Page1.ClientEmail.rawValue = "[email protected]";
            form1.Page1.Physician1Address.rawValue = "xyz suite ";
            form1.Page1.Physician1City.rawValue = "XYY CIth";
            form1.Page1.Physician1State.rawValue = "XZ";
            form1.Page1.Physician1Zip.rawValue = "11111";
            form1.Page1.Physician1NPI.rawValue = "111111111";
            form1.Page1.Physician1License.rawValue = "ABBB111111";
            form1.Page1.Physician1UPIN.rawValue = "A11111";
            form1.Page1.Physician1Specialization.rawValue = "Internist";
            break;
    And is working beautifully thanks for previous help everyone.
    Here is the example from the Drop Down list choices:
         Dr. Aaaaa Abb Accccc
         Dr. Baaaa Bbb Bccccc
    I would like to choose :
         Dr. Aaaaa A Aaaaa
    and upon chosing it have it show only the first name in that field so it can be processed correctly through out the rest of the fields.
    ie:    Aaaaa   (Only nothing else)
    I am a horrible at this stuff I just surf around until I find something that works and copy and paste and play until it works
    So Please be specific:
    Java vs FOrm: Client: Choice   and code ....
    Thanks SO much ....

    Take a look at the attached. The script assumes the name is a three-part string such as Dr. Frank Burns. You can modify it according to your needs.
    // form1.page1.dd::exit - (JavaScript, client)
    if (this.rawValue != null) {
      var doc = this.rawValue;
      var i = doc.indexOf(" ");
      doc = doc.substring(i+1,doc.length);
      this.rawValue = doc.substring(0,doc.indexOf(" "));

    SQLDeveloper 32-bit Version 3.2.20.09 (Build MAIN-09.87)
    Oracle Database:  12C single instance (no RAC)
    Oracle client:  12C 32 bit
    Windows 64 bit desktop
    I am attempting to migrate an MS Access application to Oracle.  I pick the ‘Migrate’ selection from the ‘Tools’ Menu SQL Developer.  This puts me into the Migration Wizard.  When I get to the ‘Source Database’ step of the migration wizard, the ‘Choose the Third Party database from which you are migrating’  drop-down box is not being populated with the current available connections. It is empty.  If I type a valid connection name into the box, SQL Developer takes it on this screen but does not keep it for the next screen/step.  It has no persistence.  I even tried to make sure that each connection was open/connected before beginning the migration process.
    Due to the fact that I am attempting to migrate an MSAccess application, I am mixing 32-bit and 64 bit software.  This may be the issue as to why the drop down is losing addressability.  I have not applied any patches to this version of SQL Developer.

    Hi,
    If you need easy way to migrate Microsoft Access to Oracle probably it is more reasonable to review some tools specially designed to this purpose. For example:
    Access to Oracle converter by Intelligent Converters
    Access to Oracle converter by SpectralCore
    Access to Oracle converter by Interface Computers
    Hope, this will help.
    Sincerely,
    Vlad

    i dont know where i am making mistake and i observered one behavoir that if i have less options it is working but not with many why like that , please help me in this
    Thanks

    Seems to me your conditionals should look something like this:
    <option value="Division"<cfif getData.council is "Division"> selected="selected"</cfif>>Division</option>
    <option value="Facility"<cfif getData.council is "Facility"> selected="selected"</cfif>>Facility</option>
    Your condition is the same for every option, and would likely never evaluate to true:
    <cfif council IS "#getdata.council#"> selected</cfif>
    getData.council will be "Division" or "Facility" or "District D" or ...
    ... but it would never be "council".
    HTH.

  • Dynamically Populating Drop Down Lists

    Hi,
    I am trying to dynamically populate a drop down list on a form based on a selection in another drop down list. I have read the help file "To dynamically populate a second field after populating the first" which goes through an example, however I cannot get this example to work for me.
    I know that the best way to do it is to create an xml file and connect the form to this file. I am new to programming in xml but have had some experience in other forms. The code that I have (from the help page) looks like this;
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <MyData>
       <country/>
       <countries>
          <item uiname="United States" token="US"/>
          <item uiname="Vietnam" token="SRV"/>
       </countries>
       <state/>
       <US>
          <item>California</item>
          <item>New York</item>
          <item>Texas</item>
       </US>
       <SRV>
          <item>An Giang</item>
          <item>Bac Giang</item>
          <item>Bac Kan</item>
       </SRV>
    </MyData>
    I have then followed the instructions on the page, and am unable to populate either field on my form. Perhaps there is something wrong with my code? Or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hi Paul,
    I have another question,
    I would now like to populate a third drop down menu based on the selection in the second one, however my code is going wrong somewhere as now when I put in the first 2 drop down lists, nothing appears in the second one. ie, the first drop down list I link to countries, and the second to state, as I did with the previous file, but now, when I preview it, I can choose a country, but nothing comes up in state. When I set the first drop down box to countries, I have to specify that I want it to show the uiname, but I can't do that with the second one when I select state using the XML file below, nothing is shown. Where am I going wrong?
    <MyData>
       <Country/>
       <countries>
          <item uiname="United States" token="US"/>
          <item uiname="Vietnam" token="SRV"/>
       </countries>
       <state/>
       <US>
          <item uiname="California" token="CA"/>
          <item uiname="New York" token="NY"/>
          <item uiname="Texas" token="TEX"/>
       </US>
       <SRV>
          <item uiname="An Giang" token="AG"/>
          <item uiname="Ban Giang" token="BG"/>
          <item uiname="Bac Kan" token="BK"/>
       </SRV>
       <time/>
       <CA>
          <item>6</item>
          <item>7</item>
       </CA>
       <NY>
          <item>5</item>
          <item>4</item>
       </NY>
       <TEX>
          <item>3</item>
          <item>8</item>
       </TEX>
       <AG>
          <item>2</item>
       </AG>

       </BG>
