Portal Deployment with Workshop?

Currently we do not have a clear picture, in the context of portal deplyment, on how codes developed on developer machines can be pushed and deployed in DEVT server.
We have done numerous Web app projects on WL in the past and are aware of the usual migration practices and norms.
But in the context of portal deplyment, we understand that each time when a developer creates an entity,e.g., a portlet, workshop will register the portlet definition id into WL system tables.
So right now, we cannot simply just migrate things to SIT like we used to in the previous Web App project.
Thinking of implementing either of the following alternatives:
1. No workshop to be installed in DEVT server
- CVS check-in developers' codes into a mapped-drive that is accessable by the developers.
- Afterwhich they will do a compilation of checked-in codes from their own machines.
- At same time, also from their own machines, they will effect the
portlet definitions ids to weblogic sys tables in SIT.
- Portal Deployment and testing in DEVT server.
OR
2. Workshop to be installed in DEVT server
- CVS check-in developers' codes into a mapped drive that is accessable by the developers.
- Then, via extra-X, the developers will access the DEVT server and start a workshop there to do compilation of checked-in codes.
- At the same time, the portlet definition ids will be effected to weblogic sys tables in SIT.
- Portal Deployment and testing in DEVT server.
My above concepts might not be 100% right. Is there pro and cons of each method above? And is there any 'best practice' around to resolve above mentioned?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I am affraid that it is not posible to install Oracle Portal on a 10.1.3.x app server. Oracle Portal is based on java 1.4 and thus only runs on a java 1.4 based app server, eg as 10.1.2.x. App server 10.1.3.x is based on java 1.5.
Kind Regards,
Andre

    Ricardo,
The Workshop IDE supports development in a single server environment. You
can point the IDE to a single WebLogic server instance. After you have
completed the development, you can create an EAR for the Workshop
application and deploy it on a cluster.
Please refer to the Workshop documentation section
How Do I > Deployment and Administration

Are there any problems with a webservice (created with Workshop on NT) being deployed(

  • How to import existing WLS Portal App into Workshop?

I have searched and searched, and tried every different combination of imports, with no success.
I have an existing EAR file, with a Portal Application, created for WebLogic. I am able to deploy it to my server, and it works fine. I would like to import into Workshop (either into a new project, or into an existing project - I've tried both ways), so I can manipulate it (basically, I need to enhance this existing Portal, and I want to use it as a starting point).
I don't have the complete Portal Workshop directory (I would expect a .work file, and other files related to Workshop), just a deployable EAR (probably generated with Workshop).
Anyone know how to bring the Portal into Workshop so I can work with it. The only way I can get close to it now, is to create a similar page layout, and import each component singularly then place it in the appropriate location (ie. import a jsp, and put it on the proper page, basically rebuild the app by hand). There has to be a better way - especially since this app has been developed on BEA Platform from the start.
Any help is mucho appreciated, I am up against a big deadline, and have been pulling my hair out over this.

the source code to many of the artifacts other then JSPs. Any class files
generated from page flows, controls, etc would have to be decompiled manually
with something like JAD and even with that reassembling the output would be
    quite difficult I imagine.
So in nutshell, get the source code to the portal if you want to make changes to it.

  • Building portal EAR without workshop

Has anyone successfully built an EAR file without using either the wlwBuild.sh/cmd
or the wlwBuild ant tag? I have a number of reasons why this particular method
isn't viable, I won't go into the details.
My current method works fine with the server in "development mode", but once I
create a "production mode" domain all of my pageflow portlets fail to find the
pageflow URI. The current method simple creates an exploded EAR and deploys it.
I cracked open the ear file generated by workshop and noticed a bunch of extraneous
stuff like the ".workshop" directory. Is all of this stuff really necessary? Does
anyone know what the special sauce is for getting an ear to work in production
    mode?
    Thanks,

I'm afraid it's not easy to build WebLogic portal applications without workshop. But work is under progress to build plugins for Eclipse that will enable developers to build portal applications (Pollinate project- you can find more information on Apache website).

    Thanks,
    Sunitha<b></b>

    Hi Sunitha,
First of all I was not able to find if your backend is ERP 2004 or ERP 2005. It should be ERP 2005 if you want to user ESS 1.0 and MSS 1.0 BP
Please check in Content Administrator if you can locate these applications and test the same. If yes then you can ignore this warning. If No, in that case you have to redeploy XSS, ESS and MSS using SDM again.
The links in portal comes from your backend Area Page Customizing. To verify if the problem is with your Portal Business Package or with your backend customizing run your ESS applications using
    http://<portal>:<port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/pcui_gp~xssutils/XssMenuArea?sap.xss.menuhdr=SAPDEFAULT&sap.xss.menuargrp=SAPDEFAULTESS
    and MSS using
    http://<portal>:<port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/pcui_gp~xssutils/XssMenuArea?sap.xss.menuhdr=SAPDEFAULT&sap.xss.menuargrp=SAPDEFAULTMSS
If you can see all the links correctly here, your backend customization is fine and there is a problem with your BP of ESS and MSS. So you will have to import the same again in the portal. However if you are not able to view the links in the page, then there is a problem with you Area Page Customization. You will need to check your config with the Client 000 configuration to find out the missing config.
    Hope this helps.

  • SAP Portal Integration with InfoView

    Hi Experts,
I have successfully configured SAP Portal Integration with InfoView using the following steps provided by Ingo:
    - set the system that you want to be authenticated against as the DEFAULT system in the options of the SAP authentication.
    - go to the webapps folder of your app server and navigate to the InfOView folder
For the Java version of InfoView (Windows environment) you need to edit the file web.xml, which is located (assuming Tomcat as application server) in the directory \Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\InfoViewApp\WEB-INF for the actual deployment.
In addition you can make the change to the file in the folder <INSTALLDIR>\BusinessObjects Enterprise12.0\warfiles\WebApps\InfoViewApp\WEB-INF. The files in the second locations are being used when you redeploy the web applications with a tool like wdeploy. You need to change the following values
    authentication.default = secSAPR3
    siteminder.enabled = False
    sso.enabled = True
Then I have created URLiView to InfoView login page, when the user click on the link, BOBJ will use the DEFAULT system to authenticate user.
However, there is a new requirement for users who exist in another SAP system to SSO into InfoView too. My question is whether we can specify in URLiView url or other configuration to select which SAP System to authenticate user on?
I would like to create Role A and Role B in Portal and each will display different URLiView that will authenticate user against different SAP System if possible.
    Appreciate your advise.
    Regards,
    Medy

    Hi Ingo,
    Thank you for your reply.
We are trying to create an URLiView to the logon page of InfoView: http://<BOBJ Server>/InfoViewApp/logon.jsp that will bring the user to InfoView home if SSO passed instead of OpenDocument URL.
I have tried to add URL parameters to the URLiView (http://<BOBJ Server>//InfoViewApp/logon.jsp?SAP_SYSID=DCD&SAP_CLIENT=200), but InfoView is still using the default system in CMC to authenticate user.
    Please advise.
    Best Regards,

Can someone show the way to resolve the below Challenge?
Intention: Integrate OID User repository with Oracle WebCenter Portal application
    Sequence of steps followed:
    1) We have created a new provider under WLS and made the control flag to sufficient,
    2) Reorder the OID Provider with the default provider and changed the default provider control flag to optional
    3) Created new WebCenter Portal application(with the default webcenter framework template) and deployed into custom managed server
    4) Now iam able to login to the sample portal application with the OID Users
Challenge: i can able to get the administration tab in the application(Sample deployed application) by making the OID Group as a Administrator role, but if i go to the security tab under the webcenter framework administration option it is not fetching any user/group list from OID+*,

Do you have same more logs? Maybe in AdminServer?
    When you get
ADF_FACES-60098:Faces lifecycle receives unhandled exceptions in phase RENDER_RESPONSE 6
    javax.el.ELException: java.lang.NullPointerException
Usually is a error that you isn't catched in some class and you get error in your jspx page.

  • WebLogic Workshop Portal Extension in workshop 10.1

I used Workshop 10.0 and have on the menu some features such as File - New - Portal Web Project and Windows - Portal Perspective
However, when I installed the Workshop 10.1 (I try both on the same BEA_HOME and on a new directory), I could not find these menu items anymore.
Looking at the Workshop 10.0 - manage Configuration, I saw that a plugin is installed : BEA_HOME/wlserver_10.0//portal/eclipse
I tried to copy this portal directory to the new wlserver_10.0 of the Workshop 10.1, the Manage Configuration showed that the extensions is succesfully installed. However, I still could not see the Portal Perspective (even with open perspective - Other; there is no Portal item in the list of available Perspective).
Does anyone know how to get the Portal extension in Workshop 10.1? Thanks in advance.
    Nguyen

There are no currently-released versions of the WebLogic Portal plugins
that are compatible with Workshop 10.1. The plugins that you found are
only compatible with Workshop 10.0. The next release of WLP (currently
scheduled for later this year) will include a Workshop install with
    integrated portal features.

  • Does Oracle Portal come with preceeded OC4J (with PDK)

    Hi,
I had installed the preceeded OC4J extension (with PDK in it) from http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/tech/ias/portal/files/pdk101202_oc4j_extended.zip.
What I dont understand are the following:
    1) Does Oracle Portal come with this download?
    2) If so how do I verify whether it is installed or not... I tried accessing http://localhost:7778/pls/portal and http://localhost:8888/pls/portal but in vain, am I missing some configurations?
    3) How do I view the Oracle Portal if it has been installed?
    Regards,
    Nithya

"Download the pre-seeded OC4J. This download contains the portlet standards, JPDK, OmniPortlet, and Web Clipping already deployed and ready to use within OC4J 10.1.2.0.2. Simply download, extract, and start OC4J."
You only downloaded the deployed portlets.
If you want Portal up and running, you still need the have some midtier installed

  • Understanding Portal deployment

    Hello,
here I am trying to understand the deployment of portal on two front end servers with two back end server configured in 1+1 cluster and directories in MMR.
If simple configuration of portal on FE1 done with the sample portals. suppose portal name is Portal1 and url /portal with instance name portal1Instance. now about second server. I found that using example 2 file of portal config - search and derby will be configured and then portal configuration with sample on that. With name suppose Portal2 and url /portal with instance automatically generate which is fe2-80 (i suppose).
now users ldap entry will have attributes for two portals. portal1 and portal2 like display profile and etc.
Is this the right way to do? or we should have something different so that we could have only one portal and user can login on to any of the front end servers?
    thanks.

You can accomplish this by using the psadmin create-instance command on the 2nd server. The rough sequence is:
    Portal FE Instance 1
    1) Install portal in configure now mode and optionally select one or more samples to install
    Portal FE Instance 2
    1) Create example2.xml
    2) Configure the Cacao agent and Derby DB with psconfig and example2.xml file
    3) Create the new instance with the psadmin create-instance command using the container-specific template file
Now you will have 2 portal instances that share a common configuration. The configuration is shared because there is only one portal desktop service that contains the portal id for your portal. That is, you have two portal instances that share a common id and therefore a common configuration. Users can log in to either one. Changes to the desktop profile will affect both instances.
You only need to run psadmin create-portal if you desire to have multiple portals each with their own separate configuration. In this case, each user can have a separate portal desktop service assigned (one for each portal id), therefore keeping the configurations separate.

  • Developing Portal in "WL Workshop" or "Portal Administration "

    Hello,
I got perhaps a silly question, but i must know ...
Well i designed a Portal in the "portal Administration" - but every time i want
to have a look at it by clicking on the "view Portal" button, an error occurs
    : sth. like "Forbidden"
Fact is i cant see it in my browser (localhost:7001)
But when i develop a portal in the ""workshop" by just creating a new Portal
file f.e. "myportal.portal", then it works, and i can see it in the browser !
So my urgent question is what am i doinig wrong ?
Where exactly do i have to develop my Portal - in the Workshop ? But for what
is then the "Portal Administration" ?
I am happy for anny suggestion... ! Just email to : [email protected]
    Thank You a lot
    Stefan Popescu

    Some suggesssions,
While installing the weblogic you need select weblogic portal option also. Only for weblogic different installation exe file with portal different exe file.
To get the weblogic portal server and portal work shop with weblogc you need to down load weblogic portal 10.3 exe file.
    Thanks,

  • Creating Singleton with Workshop

I am trying to create a Singleton with Workshop and am having some difficulties. When I try to add the <singleton-service> element to the weblogic-application.xml deployment descriptor, I get a schema error because the element is not defined in the supplied schema location of http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-application.xsd. If I change the location to http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/920/weblogic-application.xsd (note the change from "90" to "920"), then the <singleton-service> element is defined, but this schema has two subelements defined as <singleton-class> and <singleton-uri>. According to the documentation (and oddly enough the comments in the schema itself), these elements should be <class-name> and <name> respectively.
There is a weblogic-application.xsd file located in a eclipse plugins folder under workshop that is the same as the old version without the <singleton-service> element. I am assuming that some eclipse builder uses this schema and may be causing the problem. I tried updating this file, but that just causes eclipse to crash on startup.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get an EAR project with a singleton to build successfully in Workshop?

    Hi Vimala,
I tried your example and got the deployment problem as well. I don't think the way you have your schema defined is correct. By putting xmlns:xls="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90", you are associating all tags that begin with "wls:" with that namespace. By specifying the schemas location for http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/920, you are telling it where it can find the "920" schema, but it is never stated where you find the "90" schema. This effectively turns off schema checking for the "90" namespace. By not putting "wls:" in front of singleton-service, you are putting it at the default namespace which is not defined. This all seems to make Eclipse happy because it cannot fully validate the document.
I did find a jar file in the weblogic install that contains the schemas that weblogic uses internally. The jar file is at \beahome\weblogic92\server\lib\schema\weblogic-container-binding.jar. The schema for weblogic-application.xml is in this jar and is different from either the "90" or "920" schemas that is online. I believe this is why there is an error when you try to deploy your app. It must validate against this schema.
I have found as long as I match this schema, I can just leave the schemaLocation out of my weblogic-application.xml file and get it to build and deploy. I do get problems reported by eclipse that I need to define library references because it is needed by dependent projects. I believe this is because internally eclipse has its own copy of the schema which predates the <singleton-service> element. The builder is trying to validate the document against this schema and is failing because of the <singleton-service> element, so it cannot find the <library-ref> elements that are in the document. I did not get the same problem with your example application and I haven't figured out why yet. Funny thing, I can make a change to some other file in the project and save and all the reported problems disappear.
I believe using this work-around, I am able to get a good EAR file to build and deploy. It just seems that after I deploy and define my singleton using the admin console that nothing happens. I get no indications that the singleton is working or not in the logs. This did cause me to try a little experiment in that I configured a singleton service using the admin console to a singleton that did not exist. It acts identically to the one that did exist. No warnings or errors at all. I would hope that if I configured a singleton that I would get an error if weblogic could not start it.
Thanks for your efforts. Let me know if you find out anything else,
    Jeff
