Portal Implementation with Unicode options on R/3 systems

Dear All,
I have a very specific and unique query. We are implementing ESS, MSS, MBO for our clients, and in the process have upgraded the production servers to R/3 4.7 version ( Non - Unicode ). We're using EP 6.0 as the front for the same .
My question is as below :
Today the client is not interested in having interface other than english, but moving down the line after 2 years he would like to have a Korean language interface, which might require R/3 4.7 with Koran language unicode and functions converted.
What I want to know is whether this effort in upgrading to the unicode version of Korean on R/3 , before we actually implement ESS / MSS etc is better or should we upgrade to a unicode version 2 years later ?
In either case what are the advantages and disadvantages ?
Expert insight sought,
Regards,
Neeraj S.

Hi Marcel,
The portal capabilities of SAP NetWeaver are built on unicode (all JAVA based applications are based on unicode). This means that you can install many languages including exotic language like Kanji, Chinese, etc on the system.
SAP R/3 Enterprise (4.7) supports 3 multi-language solutions:
Unicode: Same as portal in that almost all language characters in the world are supported.
Single non-unicode code page: Prior to unicode, single code pages enabled support of multiple languages with common characters via one code page (e.g. Latin-1 code page supported all western European languages).
MDMP: a stop gap solution prior to the release of unicode which used a clever switching mechanism to handle the processing of languages that spanned multiple non-unicode code pages. This solution had very strict restrictions and is not recommended anymore as unicode is available. mySAP ERP 2005 does not support MDMP anymore.
If you connect a portal to a backend mySAP ERP system you should only communicate and process languages that are installed on the mySAP ERP system. This ensures that no data is corrupted during transfer. Obviously the portal can support more language but you should not interface with the backend system in these languages.
I hope this helps,
Mike.

  • BW implementation - with appr. 400 different external system

    Hi,
we plan to implemenent an BW scenario with appr. 400 different external systems (100 access databse, SQL SERver, Excel  ....)
Our architektur is designed in the moment with an additional layer in the ETL architektur = an SQL server.
Means all 400 different systems would send data to the SQL server and on an second step the data would send to the BW server.
Benefit - reduce the interfaces to the BW system and the BW system would have just on type of extrnael system and dataformats.
Does anyone have expierence with this kind of scenarios - what are the benefit? Or what are the argument fro this sceanrio??
    Best regards
    Grit

    Hi,
Ofcourse BIW can be used as one place of integration for all our different systems existing in the organization. But your no is a quite big one to hear. So it is better to use  SQL server as intermediate integration of data, rather  than creating lot of sourcesystem which can be used to upload a quite small amount of the data to BIW.

  • Parallel portal implementation in a non-unicode landscape

    Hi All,
We have existing 3 system landscape with 3 systems in it.
DEVQASPRD.All of these systems are non-unicode.
The java add-in cannot be installed on them because the unicode java stack cannot talk to nonunicode abap stack. The customer does not wants to get his systems conerted to unicode.
So, how the portal implementation can be carried out in such a scenario?
We want to have an IPC installed  too.
Can the communication happen in the following manner.
    PRD(non-unicode)--->ipc--->EP.
PRD writing the pricing configurations on the ipc database and EP picking up the data from ipc??
    Regards,
    Prasanna

    Hello,
We have the ECC 6.0 abap only as the backend.
Can the internet pricing configurator of the ECC 6.0 stack (VMC IPC) communicate with the portal to extract the pricing?
Since SAP IPC comes as a part of kernel for abap basic 7.0 and is it necessary to install the standalone IPC for it communicate with the portal.

  • Urgent !!! - 'Advance with Dialog' option with Enterprise Portal - Reg

    Hi Gurus,
I have the following requirement. My system is Ecc 6.0 When the user rejects an expenses report, he/she needs to put the comments for which i have a custom method to pop-up a box for entering the comments. I have this task with 'Advance with Dialog' option. This works fine. But, when the workitem is executed through Enterprise Portal, the 'Advance with Dialog' option is not working and the user is receiving a separate witem(after refreshing his UWL) for this task. This is not what i want.
Can anybody tell me how to do it, IF it is POSSIBLE.
I went through SDN and found Raja sekhar's blog below where it was told this option is not available as in Dec, 2005.
I was just wondering if anybody can tell if this option still doesn't work in E.P ?
If not, can you tell me anyother way to get this functionality work. I need some pop-up for entering the reasons for rejection.
See below for the blog that i referred to :
Advance with Dialog - is not working in E.P.
As this is very urgent, your immediate response is highly appreciated and rewarded.
    Thanks in advance,
    venu

    Hi Venu,
the later versions UWL supports a property called UserDecisionNote for the UserDecisionHandler action: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/7a/df014b037141ca9afc6433ed42b519/frameset.htm
With this functionality, you can achieve what you need (= UWL asks for the rejection reason immediately after clicking on Reject).
    Hope this helps,

  • Federated Portal solution with 2004sBI.

    Hi,
I would like to know the limitation when using fedelated portal solution with 2004s BI. that means 2004s BI web functionalities are used via Enterprise-wide portal, diferent from portal component for BI.
many customers who decide to implement mySAP ERP2005 solution is likely to implement 2 portal components. One is only for BI, another is for Enterprise wide portal, without considering system configuration deelpy.
About the portal content, the following URL show the solutions.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/92dceb49fd25e5e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
    -Integration using a URL iView
    -Export/import
    -Global portal (federated portal)
I think the global portal is the best.
About the KM contents, I am now think what is the best way.
I think by using fedelated portal solution, KM content iView and KM navigation iView can be used on the corporate wide portal.
But I am not KM expert and now am considering how to use KM contents which is on BI's EP(KM) as same as those on Enterprise wide portal. is it possible if setting webdav on repository manager on enterprise wide portal?
    Kind reagards,
    Masaaki

There are a lot of things to consider with KM, one repository or 2? The federated Portal will work with assigning a KM navigation iView to a Role and using remote role assignment. This would put KM on the producer portal. The other option is to setup a Remote KM Repository on the Consumer Portal that points to the producer. This way you can broadcast to the producer KM repository and see this in the Consumer Portal.
With Collaboration Rooms, there are some limitations, such as the Room Directory doesn't work with remote URL iViews or Remote Role Assignments as it launches the URL on the consumer instead of the producer. Currently, Collaboration Rooms should be centralized on your single consumer. If you need to broadcast to it in the producer, you would have to setup a link to a remote repository...
Therefore, if you're working with KM specifically, it all works within the framework, but you need to decide how centralized or decentralized you want your document storage, so there are a lot of project considerations on this one....
Also, webdav works to access the KM repository both on the consumer and producer...

  • Which one to chose between Netwevae XI and Portal as a career option.

    Hi,
I have just taken up the training in NS XI and in a dilema to chose between XI & Portal as a career option.
I have sufficient amount of experience in ABAP and wish to proceed further in any of the two.
Can any one please advice which one would be better in terms of the long career goal especially considering the Intl Market.
    Regards,
    Deepak.

    Hi Deepak,
It is better if u go for XI since you have ABAP knowledge. Go throught the following things.
    Hi,
SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) enables you to implement cross-system processes. It enables you to connect systems from different vendors (non-SAP and SAP) in different versions and implemented in different programming languages (Java, ABAP, and so on) to each other. SAP Exchange Infrastructure is based on an open architecture, uses open standards (in particular those from the XML and Java environments) and offers those services that are essential in a heterogeneous and complex system landscape
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
SAP NetWeaver is SAP's integrated technology platform and is the technical foundation for all SAP applications since the SAP Business Suite. SAP NetWeaver is marketed as a service-oriented application and integration platform. SAP NetWeaver provides the development and runtime environment for SAP applications and can be used for custom development and integration with other applications and systems. SAP NetWeaver is built using open standards and industry de facto standards and can be extended with, and interoperate with, technologies such as Microsoft .NET, Sun Java EE, and IBM WebSphere.
The core products that make up SAP NetWeaver include:
    SAP NetWeaver Application Server
    SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI)
    SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal (EP)
SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management (MDM)
    SAP NetWeaver Mobile
    SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence
SPRO stands for SAP Project Reference Object. It is used to configure the setting as per your client requirement by using the standard setting present in the system. This where you can do all the SAP configuration work.

  • Skills required fir portal Implementation

    Hi
What type of Skills required for Oracle Portal Implementation? Java/HTML?
    Thanks

portal development is not like webpaging and so it does not ONLY need html.
however, it depends upon what role one wants to play in oracle portals. for a developer of merely portal forms and reports, java is not essential, but html is necessary for controlling and understanding formatting options. because, one may use the other route of using pl/sql. but a good familiarity with databases would be a must.
so i would say it would go like this:
    1. a good familiarity with the databases and their design and implementations,
    2. pl/sql or java: to interact with the oracle portal utilities and features;
    3. and some interface development technologies: html plus dhtml/ javascript, xml, css, macromedia, etc.

  • Steps to configure R/3 system to Portal implementation

    Hi
Please provide steps to configure R/3 system to Portal implementation
when i m opening standard iview in ESS in portal i m getting following runtime error.
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Failed to resolve JCO destination name 'SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaData' in the SLD. No such JCO destination is defined in the SLD.
    Please help
    Thanks

    Hello Bhupinder Singh,
To use ESS/MSS services in Portal follow the following Steps
    Maintaining jCo Connections
    Use
jCo connections are used in iViews to connect directly to a backend. They are delivered with the portal content and must be activated (configured to access a specific system).
jCo connections have two parts: one with <jCo name>, and the other with suffix <jCo Name>_MetaData. The first one transfers user-specific data within the scenario; the other transfers only the needed metadata. For the jCo with name <jCo name>, SAP Logon Ticket is recommended as an authentication method. For the metadata connection, a user ID and password is needed. A system user created before is sufficient.
    Procedure
Within this guide we generically describe the step-by-step procedure for an example connection set. Perform all steps for the following jCos:
    u2022     SAP_R3_Financials / SAP_R3_Financials_Metadata
    u2022     SAP_R3_HumanResources / SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData
    u2022     SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics / SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaData
    u2022     SAP_R3_Travel / SAP_R3_Travel_MetaData

  • New Portal Implementation Questions?

    Hi,
We've just started a Portal Implementation in our company. Our environment is as follow:
    - EP 6.0 SP9 (NW04 SR1 version)
    - SAP 4.6C System (WPPI installed)
    - Lotus Notes/Domino (we are using Domino LDAP)
    My Questions are as follow:
    1. Can we integrate Domino LDAP with portal? If not how can we access domino user database in this environment?Because all company users exist in domino database but small subset of company users have SAP user.
    2. Currently I've created a system for 46C r3 system in system landscape and set it to use UIDPW for user management. I've mapped one of portal user with a SAP user and created iviews to run with wingui and webgui. All worked successfully. My question is that if there is any wey to enable SAP users to logon Portal without mapping? Online Docs. says that it is not possible to use R3 systems other than based on 620 WAS as a datasource for UME.
    Regards

    Hi Huseyin,
You need to create system in EP.
    System administration>System Configuration>system landscape-->
    1) create one folder like "system"
    2) create system in the above folder
    3) Enter all the details of R/3 System
    4) create Iview and link to the R/3 system
you could allways look at the manual:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0d/17df3d2cae445ae10000000a11405a/frameset.htm

  • Enterprise portal integration with Oracle forms

    Hi
Can anyone help me on this .
"Enterprise portal integration with Oracle forms".
I want to integrate oracle forms to EP .I am trying to work with app Integrator but I am not able to make any headway.Do you have any documents pertaining to this or any place where I can look for details.
    Thanks
    Alok

    Hi,
i'm not aware of special integration feature with Oracle forms, but if as you said we are talking about a web application available via url then i see no problem doing so. the way you can implement the SSO is using something called Application Integrator which helps you build smart URL iView's that can use the portal framework (like systems, user profile , etc) , so you can build your oracle forms integration iView that will take the user password data from the portal (via system) using user mapping or sap logon tickets.
for more details on Application Integrator see
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/70/5a3842134bad04e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
regarding to the java applet, i don't really know what you mean by "jinitiator" but if your regular browser can do it then i see no reason for problems.
    i hope it helps

  • SAP Portal Integration with InfoView

    Hi Experts,
I have successfully configured SAP Portal Integration with InfoView using the following steps provided by Ingo:
    - set the system that you want to be authenticated against as the DEFAULT system in the options of the SAP authentication.
    - go to the webapps folder of your app server and navigate to the InfOView folder
For the Java version of InfoView (Windows environment) you need to edit the file web.xml, which is located (assuming Tomcat as application server) in the directory \Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\InfoViewApp\WEB-INF for the actual deployment.
In addition you can make the change to the file in the folder <INSTALLDIR>\BusinessObjects Enterprise12.0\warfiles\WebApps\InfoViewApp\WEB-INF. The files in the second locations are being used when you redeploy the web applications with a tool like wdeploy. You need to change the following values
    authentication.default = secSAPR3
    siteminder.enabled = False
    sso.enabled = True
Then I have created URLiView to InfoView login page, when the user click on the link, BOBJ will use the DEFAULT system to authenticate user.
However, there is a new requirement for users who exist in another SAP system to SSO into InfoView too. My question is whether we can specify in URLiView url or other configuration to select which SAP System to authenticate user on?
I would like to create Role A and Role B in Portal and each will display different URLiView that will authenticate user against different SAP System if possible.
    Appreciate your advise.
    Regards,
    Medy

    Hi Ingo,
    Thank you for your reply.
We are trying to create an URLiView to the logon page of InfoView: http://<BOBJ Server>/InfoViewApp/logon.jsp that will bring the user to InfoView home if SSO passed instead of OpenDocument URL.
I have tried to add URL parameters to the URLiView (http://<BOBJ Server>//InfoViewApp/logon.jsp?SAP_SYSID=DCD&SAP_CLIENT=200), but InfoView is still using the default system in CMC to authenticate user.
    Please advise.
