Portal Navi Structure: Business Function Cnetric or SAP Module Centric?

Dear all,
When designing your portal navigation, which layout would you prefer?
1. Business Function Centric
top level has tabs representing different business departments (HR, Finance, Sales, etc.)
2. SAP Module Centric
top level has tabs representing different SAP modules (HR, MM, SD, BW, etc.)
We know that either design has its pros and cons. Really would like to know which way most you go?
Many thanks and best regards,

You raised in deed a very good question. For people new to SAP products it is not always clear what belongs to what since a lot of stuff is part of SAP ERP (deployed as a SAP ECC system).
To answer most of your questions:
Most of the things above are in deed part of ECC. ESS/MSS is part of ERP HCM and therefore ECC. But many companies dont deploy HCM with the rest of ECC, but put HCM in a seperate installation/deployment - so two deployments of ECC.
SolMan is not part of ECC. It comes as an own system which need to be deployed seperately from ECC. SolMan helps IT departments with ITIL processes, technical monitoring, etc.
TM is based on SCM, I am not sure if it can run with other SCM modules.
BW as well as BO are seperate and used for data warehouse and reporting toolsets.
PI is SAP's Enterprise Service Bus and also used for SOA.
CRM is for Sales and Marketing processes - a seperate deployment deeply integrated with ECC.
For Strategy management and BPC I am not 100% sure.
Hope that helps!

  • To start career as Technical or functional side of SAP

I am a Computer Science Engineering graduate having 5 years of experience in Java,J2EE. I am going to study Management Information Systems in one of leading universities in UK having SAP alliance .
I want to start my career in SAP functional.
My question is which module of SAP fucntional side would be apt for me to start with considering my background in Information Systems ????
Do I have to start my career as SAP Technical person (like Portal side of SAP as its relevant to Java) and enter SAP functional or as a Techno functional personal knowing both Portal and any one functional side of SAP??
Thank You So Much in Advance for help

  • Activate business functions

    Hi,
Our client is using ECC6.0 version, we have accidentally activated SAP IS OIL &GAS, where previously it used to be SAP retail. Due to this if we execute any transaction it is going to dump with an error that DDIC data inconsistce. Can you please advise me how to deactive these business function and change SAP IS OIL & GAS to SAP retails as business function set.
I really appreciate your prompt response.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Once you have activated SAP IS OIL &GAS. You cannot deactivate yourself. Billing starts from the date of activating. You need to put up OSS to SAP. Only the solution you have to contact the SAP AG and deactivate it.

  • Activating business function OPS_PS_CI_1

    Hello,
I want to activate business function  OPS_PS_CI_1 using transaction SFW5in ECC 6.0 EHS-3.......if I want to deactivate can this be done if necessary.
    Thanks
Moderator message: not directly related to ABAP development.

    Hi Saurabh,
Business function OPS_PS_CI_1 is available as of ERP 6.0 EHP3.
In case you have only ERP 6.0 without any enhancement packs, you may need to upgrade the ECC system to atleast EHP3.
Post this upgrade you may use SWF5 to activate the required business function.
Refer SAP help for more details

    Hope this helps.

  • SAP Netweaver Portal - Folder structure and report publishing strategy

    Hi gurus,
I'm working on a project in which we are publishing BW reports in SAP Netweaver Portal (prior to this, we were using SAP Bex Browser) organizing it by Department (workset, 2nd lvl of navigation), Business Processes (workset, 3rd lvl of navigation) and "iview types" (transactions, queries, dashboards and so on). On 1st level we have a workset simply called "Reports".
For each PFCG role we have on BW (ABAP Server), we created a portal role and defined which of the higher navigation tiers is visible to users (delta-linking the top level navigation worksets to the portal role and setting visible accordingly) and then we assigned Portal roles to the appropriated Group (PFCG role) so all users that have access to certain PFCG role can have access to the corresponding Portal role.
    For example:
In BW (ABAP) we have a PFCG Role: Sales PMR Analysis - Administrator, which grants access to Sales Infoproviders, queries and data for PMR analysis. The user that have access to it, should be able to see:
    |Reports|
    |Sales Administration|
    v PMR Analysis
      > Web Queries
      > Transactions
      > Dashboards
      > Workbooks
In Portal we create a workset that has: "Reports" and under it, all Departments (Sales Administration, Financial, Services, Human Resources and so on) set as "not visible". We create a Portal role called PMR Analysis and add the Report/Departments workset, set Sales Administration as visible and add worksets/folders named PMR Analysis, Web queries, Transactions, etc, and all the corresponding iviews under it.
If we assign this new Portal role to the Group of the corresponding PFCG role, the user will see exactly as the example from above.
Pros: The users have a clean view of the reports he/she has access.
Cons: The users doesn't have a clear view of what is available in BW so he can request access. There might be some useful report lost in on of the hundreds of BW roles that he doesn't know it exist.
One of the options would be to grant visibility to ALL departments, business processes and iviews in Portal and let PFCG security roles control user access, but that might be confusing to have an overwhelming amount of links, making it hard to find what the user needs, specially during first access. Not to mention possible security breaches.
So, I'd like to know how other consultants are defining this kind of folder structure and report publishing strategy in Portal. Ideally we would like to be able to have:
    - Visibility of all existant reports even those that the user does not have acess (so he can learn that it exist and request access)
    - Clean view of reports, segmented by department and business processes.
    - Possibility to search for reports, even for those that the user does not have access.
I'd appreciate if you guys can share your experience on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Leandro

Cons: The users doesn't have a clear view of what is available in BW so he can request access. There might be some useful report lost in on of the hundreds of BW roles that he doesn't know it exist
This is not a refutation: your BW developers/consultants should be able to write reports, which points you in case of insufficent backend rights. EP is not designed to be familiar with ABAP security concept and cant take any influence at it.
One of the options would be to grant visibility to ALL departments, business processes and iviews in Portal and let PFCG security roles control user access, but that might be confusing to have an overwhelming amount of links, making it hard to find what the user needs, specially during first access. Yes, bad idea.
    - Visibility of all existant reports even those that the user does not have acess (so he can learn that it exist and request access)
As you already wrote on your own, this would be not good
    - Clean view of reports, segmented by department and business processes.
    - Possibility to search for reports, even for those that the user does not have access.
This is not covered by SAP, if you wanna provide that, develop it on your own.
    cheers

  • How to structure a multiple business WM solution in SAP

    Hi there,
I am in a preparation phase to show our business the merits of SAP WM, replacing a third party system. As I'm new to WM I'm struggling a bit with the possible structures to use for our DC. I understand the SAP and standard WM structures however I'd like some guidance on what would be the best fit in our situation.
We run 1 Distribution Centre with several physical buildings (1 Main DC, multiple outside storage buildings for bulk storage/overflow). The DC itself is physically split into 5 sections. Each of these sections relate to a completely separate business within our organisation. As such, these 5 different businesses maintain completely separate inventories for completely different products.
The requirements for the set up are:
Completely separated stock on hand controls in IM
    Separated purchasing
No stock transfers between businesses (instead Goods Issue/Goods Receipt if this ever happens)
Easy to recognise split between the 5 businesses
So far, the best I'v been able to come up with is 5 Warehouses in WM, each assigned to its own plant (and all 5 plants assigned to the same company code). Underneath the Warehouses in SAP I then use the Storage Type and section to split the internal warehouse into its appropriate sections. It's the easiest one to explain to the users (and myself!) but not ideal as we really only have 1 DC.
I've also been looking at 1 Warehouse, 1 plant, 5 (permanent) storage locations (not taking into account staging areas) but I'm unsure how to assign the storage locations to the relevant storage types. Is this at all possible?
Your help is very much appreciated!
    best regards,
    Cees

    Hi Cees,
I agree with Frenchy. Keep it simple and your WH will flow smoothly.
You mentioned "* No stock transfers between businesses (instead Goods Issue/Goods Receipt if this ever happens)". With this said, and if you go with 1 plant and different storage locations, you can always use a 2-step transfer so that the receiving party do a GR (placement into stock) and that the issuing party don't just put the stock in the destination sloc.
Also, do you want to see the value of the different buildings seperately? It all depends what your business strategy is and what your stock valuation level must be. If, like you say, the different businesses operates separately, then maybe it makes sense to create different plants with 1 sloc each linked to 1 WH. In your WH then you can seperate the areas by means of different ST's. All your WH stock data on quant level keeps the plant as an entry on the table, so you can get a wm stock report specifying the different plant stock and then you can also get IM valuation data (for example MB5L) per plant (valuation area).
Your structure could look like the following:
    Company: 1000
       -> Plant: AA01 with sloc FG01
       -> Plant: AA02 with sloc FG01
       -> Plant: AA03 with sloc FG01
       -> Plant: AA04 with sloc FG01
       -> Plant: AA05 with sloc FG01
    > All of above Plant/Sloc combination linked to WH 100 (see table T320)
Will your plants share distribution channels/shipping points?
I myself is busy with an implementation with 2 factories on one physical site which are currently configured in 2 different company codes & plant and then these are linked to 1 WH with different ST's for the different products (coming from the different business units). This setup is done in a decentralized WM environment. SAP can hadle this as std functionality.
I hope this helps with your decision.
    Good luck,
    Hein

  • Drag and Drop Functionality within the SAP Portal

Does anyone know if SAP Netweaver Portal 6.0 sp18 supports drag and drop technology.  A good comparison would be Google where a user can drag iViews around and place them where they would like.
We are trying to build something similar to Google Gadgets with iViews and we would like our users to be able to add, remove, drag, and drop them in the Portal.
Has anyone done something similar to where I would be able to leverage them for further questions.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
    Jason

    Hi
Were you able to find away of using the drag and drop functionality?
I am wanting to use a similar functionality to Yahoo where people can just drag the iViews they want into the page and saving their personalised settings.  I am unable to find information as to what Portal release supports this functionality and how it works.  Would you be able to help?
    Many thanks

    Creating Switch.
    1. in SFW1, Once you create your SWITCH and assign your package and Activate it, it shows in Active mode but the SWITCH is not still Active GLOBALLY.
    2. To activate it, create a Bussiness Function in SFW2 and assign your SWITCH to this and Activate it.
2.1 Here if you select the Business Function as type ' INDUSTRY ', then again you need to assign this Business Function to Business Function Set in SFW3.
2.1.1 In SFW3, Create a Business Funstion Set, and assign this Business Function to it and Activate it. But your SWICT is still it not active Globally.
2.1.2 Go to SFW5, and Activate your Business Function Set here, then your SWICT is GLOBALLY ACTIVE
2.2 If your Business Function is of type ' Add On ', then there is no need to assign it to any Business Function Set.
2.2.1 Directly, go to SFW5, click on type ' Add Ons ', and after identifing your Business Function, Activate your Business Function here, then your SWITCH is GLOBALLY ACTIVE.
But the final problem is : Once you activate your SWITCH, there is no other way to deactivate your SWICTH.
    Enhancement implementations are switchable.
Steps to assign a switch to BADI Implementation:
    1) Assign the Enhancement Implementation containing the BADI implementation to a Package/development class.
2)Assign this Package/development class to a switch in transaction SFW1.
3)Make sure the switch you are using has state ON. For this assign this switch to an ACTIVE business function using transaction SFW2. A switch inherits the state of the business function.
