Portal Server support on Solaris/Intel Architecture

Hi Gurus,
Is iPlanet portal supported on Solaris on Intel architecture? Any of you have this kind of setup and experienced any problem? or was it smooth sailing? or is there some particular version of Solaris OS that has to be used..etc.
Thanks
Ashok

The short answer is No. The current version of Portal Servers both 3.0 and 6.0 are supported only in Solaris / Sparc arch.

BTW, I recreate the key by using your suggestions. and now portal server was configured, up and runningAs suggested we've also recreated the cacao keys:
cacaoadm create-keys -f The VM we're using was from a template Solaris 10 VM, so we had to change the hostname. As suggested, we also performed a sysuncofig, and also recreated the cacao keys (as above), then installed Application Server, AM SDK (remote) then Portal Server.
We have been in contact with Sun support, and they have told us to put the machine in DNS (rather than just the hosts file), which we have also done.
    Any ideas?

  • RFC SDK support on solaris-intel?

I have some questions about the “C”  SAP RFC SDK. I cannot seem to find a complete list of supported UNIX platforms.
What is the current version of the “C” RFC SDK?
Is it supported on the solaris intel platform?
I notice that the dynamic version of the RFC library (rfc32.dll)  is installed with SAP Netweaver on Windows.  Is the equivalent dynamically loaded library (i.e. librfc.so) always included with a SAP installation on UNIX as well?  Does this mean that the static libraries provided in the RFC SDK are no longer required to build a client RFC application, since a client application can dynamically load the run-time library instead?

We don't certify Solaris on NT.
You can find this information on platform support page.

  • Does the iplanet Portal server support other existing standalone Webservers/application Servers the likes of weblogic, websphere etc?

If so, will the session management aspect be looked after by the iPlanet Portal server?

The new version of Portal (6.0 I believe) will run on weblogic or websphere as well as iAS.

  • OUD in Solaris Intel Architecture

    ODSM Deployment on amd64 i386
I am a Solaris Intel user interested in getting users to authenticate to Local OUD.
I need assistance using OUD  to add users via cli ( I am new to OUD )
in "netmgr" I already sees and able to authenticate Oracle cn=Directory Manager.
    Base DN : Oracle Content
Question: How do I add test users to a fully functional OUD running in Solaris 11.2 and Oracle12c with iPlanet installed.
Currently have no ODSM GUI in working status Due to RCU/Solaris Intel Incompativility issues. (Investigating)
    Comments are welcomed.
    Art.S

    Hello,
OUD ships with LDAP clis to add/modify users:
Assuming OUD instance is created in <instance>,
    go to <instance>OUD/bin
Here is an example to create user u1 with the ldapmodify command:
    ./ldapmodify -a -D "cn=directory manager" -w <password> -p <ldap port>
    dn: uid=u1,ou=people,dc=example,dc=com
    uid: u1
    objectclass: inetorgperson
    cn: u1
    sn: u1
    userPasswword: u1
If you have many users to create, you can use the ldapmodify command in batch mode
with the -f option . The -f option is foillowed by a LDIF file containing entries to be created.

  • Does iPlanet Portal Server support ipsec (IP Security Protocol)

IPSec operates at the operating system level, not the application level. Solaris 8 supports IPSec so you can use iPSec to set up tunnels between the gateway and the profile server to secure the connection.

  • How does iPlanet Portal server support authentication to NT domains/workgroups?

I would recommend reading this ..
    http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/portal/30/ag/authctn.htm#754920
One thing that is not specified in the document, you would also need to install samba that comes as a part of the 3 rd party cd toolkit.

  • Sun ONE Portal Server 6.1 - Support for doble-byte characters - China/Korea

    Hi,
Can somebody help me in understanding whether Sun ONE Portal Server support double-byte characters. This is basically to support Chinese & Korean languages. If yes, please guide me through the steps to enable the same.
    Thank you,
    V

First I tried to force the monitor into 1280x1024@75 mode which does not show the flicker. In three horizontal areas in the screen, the display was very fuzzy. So I had to decide whether use 60Hz mode with the flicker problem or use 75 Hz mode with the fuzzyness problem.
I tried the first alternative by ignoring the EDID data and force the display mode but I didn't succeed with solving the fuzzyness problem. So I decided to go back to 60 Hz mode and try to solve the flicker problem. (I already tried 'Option "Flicker"  "false" - no effect!) I have no more ideas.

  • Oracle 9 for Solaris (Intel) x86?

Did oracle drop support for Solaris (Intel) x86? I run a shop with a large scale intel server running Solaris 9 (x86) and would like to try out Oracle 9i on it.
    Please advise: [email protected]
    Thanks!

You can find information about Oracle product certifications here,
    http://otn.oracle.com/support/metalink/content.html
You can also find information about desupported platforms in the same place. This link is available from "Get Support" navigation element on OTN home page.

  • Who knows - Has Oracle plan to make 9i on Solaris Intel x86 in the future?

Now Sun continue support of Solaris Intel, But Oracle release only 8.1.7 exist.
    Any comments,please

    Hi again,
    assumption proven ;-)
    full details from Oracle below
    HTH,
    Peter
Applies to: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.2.0.1
SymptomsWhile installing Oracle10gR2 on a Solaris 10 x86-64 server, Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) reports the following errors while checking the kernel parameters:
    shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295 found no entry . Failed <<
    shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100 found no entry . Failed <<
    shmsys:shminfo_semmni=100 found no entry . Failed <<
    shmsys:shminfo_semmsl=256 found no entry . Failed <<
The overall results of this check is Failed.
The kernel parameters do not meet the minimum requirements
CauseOUI is looking at /etc/system to check the kernel parameter settings, but this file is not used (by default) in Solaris 10
OUI should check the kernel parameter settings using the resource control utility ( /bin/prctl )
SolutionTo implement the solution, please execute one the following steps:
    1. Verify that the kernel parameter settings are correct using the resource control utility ( /bin/prctl ) and then start OUI like this:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    OR
    2. Include the recommended kernel parameter settings in the /etc/system file and start OUI as normal:
    ./runInstaller

I'm afraid this is unlikely to happen at all. As far as I know,
Solaris on Intel doesn't represent a large enough target market to be
worth porting to. What little market share it ever gained is being
    rapidly eaten by Linux.

  • File upload functionality in oracle portal server

I have got a struts portlet on oracle portal server 9.0.4.My functionality is to have a file upload facility. I tried to achieve it , but problem arises when i use any pdk taglibs like
    <pdk-html:link page="/ShowInitialSupportScreen.do?action=initial&levelOfAction=3">
after uploading when i forward to a result.jsp. and in that file if i use a tag like above, it gives null pointer exception because
    httpservletrequest.getAttribute(HttpCommonConstants.PORTLET_RENDER_REQUEST)
this returns null when my enctype is multipart/form-data. in the fileupload.jsp
and the in the internal implementation of the pdk taglib it refers to the PortletRenderRequest from httprequest object.
The following link says multipart is not supported by the Parallel Page Engine.
    Re: multipart/form-data jsp
Do you have any idea on this issue. File upload seems to be a basic functionality but doesnt the Oracle portal Server support it?
    With kind regards,
    -Rafeeq

I got the solution, we cannot achive file upload in portal server cos it does not support Multi-part Data . instead i achieved it by a separate struts application to upload and invoked it from my portal application in an popup window.
