Positioning HorizontalBar in JScrollPane and scroller

Hi,
I have attached a JScrollPane to a text area.
the code is as follows.
JScrollPane jsp = new JScrollPane( jtx1 );
however since the contents in the JTextArea is large horizontally, the text gets displayed in the textarea. However the scroller in the JScrollPane gets positioned towards the end of the text. How do I specify to make sure that the Scroller is always in the start of the text?
and also i wanted the Vertical ScrollBar to be always visble and what i did was:

jsp.setVerticalScrollBarPolicy(JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS);
The Vertical ScrollBar gets displayed. However I am not ablt to see the scroller in the JScrollPane's vertical bar as I don't have sufficient text vertically. How do i specify that the scroller always be present in my vertical side...irrespective of the contents in the Textarea. i.e i always want to scroll. (I see the ScrollBAr. however am not able to scroll b'coz i have less text.)

Consistant Scrolling position between cursor keys and mouse - how to do it??

When I read with Adobe Reader, I often use the mouse on my laptop and scroll the pages down with the scrollbar and then become engrossed in reading the article.
Being engrossed, however, I also sometimes press the cursor down key, with the expectation that it will scroll the page down from the current position I am reading from.
Unfortunately it jumps to whereever it was 50 or so pages before, or to the start and I have to mess around trying to find my place.
It's deeply, deeply irritating and slows down my reading significantly.
I have read all the Adobe reader help and settings, but cannot find anywhere I can change this behavour. I
Anyone else affected by this and if so how did you overcome it?

I shoud be clearer and say that it jumps to wherever the cursor was last placed by the cursor keys.

JScrollPane Must Scroll to the END ........

My problem is :
I have a JTextArea , and the text inside doesn't fit
in it. When this happens , the two ScrollBar should
scroll to the END of the text....
Like if a have a JTextArea with 10 rows with a JScrollPane, and my text is 20 rows long, then i
need to see the end of the text(No manual Scrolling)
Are there any method to control the Scrollbar position ?

When you move the caret position of your JTextArea, then the scollbars follow. Try this (assuming your JTextArea is called textArea):
textArea.setCaretPosition(textArea.getLineEndOffset(textArea.getLineCount()-1));This scrolls to the end of the JTextArea.

Yes it does. If you for example add background-color: yellow; to the stlyle you will see that the page turn yellow:

If the styles doen't get applied as expected it is a browser issue. The WebBrowser control emulates Internet Explorer in IE7 rendering mode by default. You will have to change some registry settings to change this behaviour. Please refer to the following

Issue with div "s4-workspace" and scroll bar

Hi,
I have a standard publishing site, I just added an horizontal menu (the publishing site doesn't have it) but I'm experiencing a strange behavior:
With my custom menu the div "s4-workspace" shifts down by the height of the menu and I cannot see the end part of the page content.
I noticed this because I was looking at the workspace right scroll bar and I could not see the end.
I copied my horizontal menu from the Team Site, where the menu is scrolling inside the workspace, but I want to keep it fix under the ribbon.
I guess that it's a div displacement problem, but I could not find anything to fix it. I opened the nigthandday.css and the core4.css looking for some CSS style property, but nothing...

If you look at the page, you will notice that the whole page doesn't scroll by default. Only the S4-workspace and below scrolls. This is done through the use of a Javascript. Your problem is that you have inserted something between the
div's at the top of the page and the S4-workspace div. The javascript isn't aware of that and so it's not factoring in that height when it calculates how to scroll the page. So you can never reach the bottom.
To fix it you need to either remove the factors that cause the partial page scrolling and scroll the whole page or insert your menu into either the top of the s4-workspace div or one of the other existing div's at the top of the page. Take a look at

Help With JScrollPane and many JLabels...

I am in the process of designing an 'image browser' applet for a client, but am having some difficulty in deciding how I can most elegantly meet all of the requirements. The specification calls for an applet that can view up to 400 images (all images are small - 120 * 120 px), the view of the images can be scrolled (if not all are in the view) or scaled (zoom in and out on any area), and the images will need to 'animate' or move to new locations as sorting criteria changes. Also, I need to be able to group images into arbitrary n*n arrays and click on any image in the view (rollovers may also be necessary in the future).
At first, I thought this would be easily solved by putting the images (JLabels?) into as many groups (JPanels?) as necessary to meet the sort criteria, then adding the groups to my main view (JScrollPane w/JPanel) in a GridLayout. My current attempt at a solution scales the groups (JPanels) via. an overridden paintComponent method from within my main scrolling view (using g2d and scale). Unfortunately, I now have many problems that I am having trouble solving:
1. After I re-scale the JScrollPane (zoom in or out) and then try and scroll, the new images that scroll in are either garbled or just junk (seems like remnants of the original, non-scaled components?).
2. The scrollbars, at first, were not reflecting the current scaling and how much content is visible, so I overrode the getPreferredSize method in my JScrollPane content object to return (super.getPreferredSize * scaleFactor) - this fixes the appearance of the scroll bars (ie. they accurately reflect how much content there is), but it also offsets all of the images left depending on the scale value (less scale -> images offset further left).
3. I need pixel-perfect control over the images, so that I can animate the transition from one 'group' to another - I can't see a way to achieve this with my current solution.
Has anyone tried to do something like this before? What is a good way of accomplishing what I need here? Any code out there that does something similar? Any help would be appreciated, I've been banging my head against the wall over this for days now...

I increased the frame size to 3 lines and noticed the the flickering is a result of the text area painting itself without the scrollbar and then repainting itself with the scrollbar. I don't know why this happens, but a work around is to use:

JTable can't display column names and scroll bar in JDialog !!

JScrollPane auto scrolling.

Hi Friends,
Basically I want text in the JTextArea added to the JScrollPane to scroll automatically.
I have a JFrame to which I have added a horizontal JSplitPane. The Left side of the SplitPane consists of a JPanel with different components and the Right side consists of a JPanel with a JScrollPane containing the JTextArea which displays some Help/News etc.
I want this text to keep on scrolling continuously, while the user does his work on the Left side, till me application exits.
Please help me out on this.

I am not sure whether it will work or not in your case.but it does work in my application.Hope it works!

Need debugging help: Why is JScrollPane auto-scrolling?

I'm trying to figure out why when I double-click on a cell within a JTable that's wrapped in a JScrollPane in order to open up another window, the JScrollPane automatically scrolls to the top.
Even when I update the double click operation to simply call setSelected(false), the JScrollPane still automatically scrolls to the top.
I added myself as a change listener to the scroll pane's row header view port, and captured the following stack trace.
I'm having trouble debugging exactly what is causing the following chain of events to fire. If I try to put a debug breakpoint on a method like EventQueue.invokeLater() that's probably initiating the following chain of events, I can't even get back to my application window from my IDE without having to dismiss all of the breakpoints that are reached.
If I try to follow through from the double-click to the actual JScrollPane auto-scroll, I get lost in a maze of Swing events that I can't navigate out of.
Any suggestions on how to appropriately debug this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response. I examined the code and nowhere that I can see is it calling either of those two methods.
At some point, it looks like something within my code or in the UI frameworks that I'm using is invalidating my JScrollPane. I'm having a very difficult time, though, tracking down exactly which component is causing that invalidation.
Short of writing my own JScrollPane so that I can capture the stack trace of calls to invalidate(), does anyone have any suggestions for debugging this further? I tried to use a conditional breakpoint in Eclipse 2.1.3 (Component.invalidate() where the Component is an instance of JScrollPane), but my breakpoint is never being executed.

JTable column movement and scroll bar

Hello:
I have a JTable with about 30-40 columns. Sometimes I would like to drag the column from rightmost to closer to the left end. I am not able to do that in one shot. and instead have to do it in multiple steps. Is there a way for the scroll bar to sort of move alongside the column as I drag it along?

i dont know if there is way off hand. But you can put your own mouseListener of the JScrollPane and i am sure there is some method to check if you are dragging the JTable and if you are move the JScrollBar in the direction.
I think that you are going to have to make you own implementation of this.

JScrollPane and TitledBorder spacing

I have an issue with using a TitledBorder on a JScrollPane. The problem is that the border is noticeably larger than the JScrollPane inside of it. The problem can be clearly seen in these two images:

Obviously, the title in the border is interfering with the spacing inside of the border, but I was hoping to find a simple way to work around the problem without creating a custom border.

Alright, accepted. Here's the thing, it was very difficult to
tell what you were needing from your first post, and now having
reviewed the file, it is much more complex than you had indicated.
However, there still is a great deal of extraneous code in the
scripts you have been working on, and the task can be accomplish
much more simply.
I have taken a moment to reconfigure an example of your file,
you'll find that the operating code is far less complex than that
which you had been trying to force into functioning, and requires
very few variables, and loops the panning between the two images.
this script can be modified to accomidate more images or use the
speed of the mouse movement as a ratio to effect the speed of the
tween, or any number of other effects. The codes you previously had
on the p1 and p2 MCs have been stripped out, as well as the
'symbol(s)', all of which are not necessary. I haven't done any
testing as to scaling the swf in a html doc, but if you set this
publish settings up correctly it should scale to the right size
without have to use the onResize method. so here's the file:

Selecting more than one photo and scrolling issues

After selscting a photo then holding my shift key and scrolling down to select more photos, my browser window bounces back to my first selected photo before I can select the group I have scrolled down to. Any ideas??

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are trying to select all of the photos between the first selected photo and the next selected photo, right?
If you select just two photos (Command key depressed) and start to drag do you get a red circle with the number of photos you've selected come up? If not then the problem may be that you don't have the Helvetica font installed. If so launch Font Book and check it out. You may have to get it off your system install disks (Pacifist) and install it manually.

How can I disable right/left mouse buttons and scroll wheel in PDF?

I want the user to have to click on "forward" and "back" buttons that I've created in the PDF, in order to move around in it. Is there any way to disable the mouse buttons and scroll wheel from allowing users to go back and forth?
Also, a separate question: I want the user to click on embedded images and receive either a pop-up comment, or be re-directed to another page in the PDF. Is there any way to set this up?

You can achieve what you want in Question 1, just not via scripting. You would need to create a plug-in in C/C++ that would be installed on the client machine. Other than that option, try67 is correct - there is no way to achieve this from the document-level.
