Possible Issue with help for "disable property node"

Hi, In Labview version 9.0 (32-bit) there seems to be a conflict between help info for the Enum constant  as applied to the disable property node . If I right click on a control variable and select create-> property node -> disable. If I then right click on disable -> help for disable, the help lists the following interger assignment 0 - Disable, 1- Disable and Greyed, 2 Enable. If however, I right click on the generated Enum constant and select properties -> Edit Items, the listing order is as follows; 0- Enable, 1- Disable, 2- Disable and Greyed. The latter assignment is how the Enum constant actually works. It appears that the help information may be incorrect.

Hi,
I compared it with 8.2.
In 8.2 creating a constant, indicator or control by right clicking on the "disabled" property node gave an object of type U8, which operates in accordance with the "help for disabled", ie
0=Enable
1=Disable
2=Disable/grey
In 9.0/2009 right clicking and creating on the property node gives an Enum (of datatype U8) with names/values in agreement with 8.2, and operation as in 8.2, BUT the "help for disabled" message says
0=Disable
1=Disable/grey
2=Enable
Thus I would agree that this is a documentation error, and the LabVIEW is correct.
N.I. Can we have a CAR please?
P.S. I do think that it is a good idea to have made the disabled property an enum, whilst maintaining compatability with previous code. I always wondered why it wasn't that way in earlier revisions.

  • How to change value of constant for "Disabled" Property Node?

    Hello all,
    I'm attaching a vi example of what I'm wanting to do. It is happening during the event for "Left Selectorrogrammed 1: Value change.
    Basically I've created a property node for a LED boolean control. After it is clicked, I am wanting to disable it so the user cannot change the value (I have a reset all button for use on that).
    I've created the property node for this control for Disabled.  When I am in the block diagram, I change it to write mode.
    I've rt clicked on it, and said "create constant", which it does.  However, the constant comes up every time as "Enabled". I've tried clicking all over this constant, and looking through all the properties, but I cannot figure out how to toggle through the values or set the value of this constant from "Enabled" to "Disabled".
    I see where you can edit the items of this constant...but I'm guessing there is some way to toggle this constant to the value you wish....any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    cayenne

    To change a constant value your cursor needs to be in the "finger" mode.
    You can select this by holding down shift and right-clicking on the diagram - then select the finger.
    Another way is to set Automatic Tool selection:
    Tools >> Options >> Environment >> Lock automatic tool selection
    With this option, LabVIEW will choose the tools for you.
    Play with it a bit to see how it works.

  • Disabled property node hangs loop

    I've got a parser loop, operating on streamed data from a CRIO via UDP.  The loop operates at about 90Hz.  In response to the user opening a file, the code will use a property node to enable (or disable and gray) a couple of boolean front-panel objects.  When these property nodes execute, I see the CPU usage (in Windows task manager) go to close to 100% and coincidentally, the parser loop hangs.  Other loops within the same VI continue to run.  CPU usage stays at 100% until I force a VI abort.
    With a small test-VI, I've noted that these property nodes require roughly 10ms to execute.  This seems quite sluggish, but nonetheless, my thoughts are that my code, running at 90Hz, would be able to tolerate a single slip of the loop execution time, particularly because the UDP data is queued.
    Any thoughts regarding this property node execution time or suggestions on how to improve the code?  Thanks in advance.

    Mark, thank you for offering to look at a stripped-down version of the code.  I just couldn't spare the time required to simplify our complex code.  However, I've been working on this problem in the past couple of weeks since I originally posted the question, and have made some progress toward a solution.  Although I still do not have a conclusive explanation for the Labview's behavior, I thought I'd follow up with a list of what appears to have made improvements to the code.  I'll concede that these suggestions are not definitive, but the problems are not repeatable and without any transparency into Labview's internal behavior, my analysis of the problems and my attempts to find a fix are admittedly speculative in nature.  Software development shouldn't be magic, but damn it seems like Labview requires we dance around a black candle.  Frustrating.  OK, exiting rant mode, here is a list of what NOT to do if you want Labview to be more stable:
    --  Do not use frames around your front panel objects.  Our main panel has approximately 100 front-panel indicators.  In an attempt to make the interface more intuitive, in a recent code revision we grouped the objects using frames.  The effect was a sluggish UI and a processor loading that went to close to 85%.  I'm aware from posts on this forum that overlapping indicators forces Labview to update all when any is updated.  This is an understandable coding contraint.  OK, fine, we weren't overlapping any idicators.  But for pete's sake, why should the same constraint apply to a purely decorative object like a frame?  This strikes me as a fundamental philosophical flaw in LV's coding.  Group N objects with a nice frame -- update the objects N-squared times.  If this is the result of using a frame, I would have preferred that NI not even offer the option.  Bad choice on the part of the Labview coders and bad choice on our part for assuming zero frame impact on performance.
    -- Do not use property nodes.  We occasionally gray-out front panel objects when appropriate for the state of the software.  This appeared to be contributing to Labview's instability.  I built a diagnostic routine that measures execution time for the "gray-out and disable" property node.  Generally around 8ms, but occasionally as high as 16ms.  Good grief.  I've got a code loop running at 90Hz.  A 16ms hit isn't easy to tolerate or frankly to understand.  Particularly when slow execution is the BEST of the consequences -- the worst is that the property node seemed on occasion to precipitate a hung loop.
    -- Do not use Labview's built-in queue structure.  Our code was originally using queues to hand off packets of data from a UDP-listener loop to a packet-parser.  The UDP-listener blocks on UDP reception, shoves the packets into the queue.  The packet parser blocks on data available in the queue and subsequently writes the data to file.  NI would have you believe, and I did believe for a while, that this is an elegant producer/consumer approach to this problem.  When our problem would occur, the UDP-listener continued to put data into the queue, but the packet parser would never retrieve it.  Just went off into nowhere, consumed and forgotten by the Great Labview Scheduler in the Sky.  The loop would hang, wouldn't respond to the stop button, would require a forced-abort.  Subsequently, if we simply restarted the code, we couldn't be assured that the packets retrieved from the queue would be in chronological order.  Seemed to be just randomly retrieved.  Clearly the failures had corrupted some of the Labview internal data structures that govern the queue operation.  We couldn't assure proper behavior unless we shut down and restarted Labview each time the error occurred.  The solution was to abandon code elegance in favor of sequential operation -- get rid of the queue, listen for the UDP packet then parse it immediately.  No queue handoff.  No further parser lock-ups.
    I'm not sure what other bombs might be lurking in our code.  Our listener and parser code hasn't lately hung, but the problem is starting to move on to other loops.  They'll run for hours and then just stop.  Dead.  Frozen.  In the most recent cases, even the abort button won't shut them down.  We have to use Windows Task Manager to kill them.  I'll admit to harboring some deepening skepticism for any of the more clever and powerful "features" that NI has added to LV.  From my perspective, these more powerful features cannot come free of cost -- they must impose some unavoidable computational burden on LV itself, a burden that LV seems unable to handle, with unpleasant consequences.  Must we impose a moratorium on Timed Loops?  Event structures?  To what level of simplicity must I drive our code to ensure stability?
    Thanks, everyone, for tolerating my frustration, and for your comments, if you've got any guidance you can offer.

    While it is possible you have a faulty unit I'd agree that the menu system took a step backwards with the itunes store centric take 2.0+ software. I think I'm in the minority here though. Apart from the 2.0+ top level interface being butt ugly and confusing to navigate, it simply isn't as responsive as 1.0/1.1 and I think most of this is to do with displaying a combined sync/stream menu. if you sync stuff try setting 'show only synced items' in the AppleTv device tabs in iTunes and see if it makes the issue go away - easy to revert back.
    Huge libraries (number of files not actual size of the files) can also be problematic given AppleTV's modest hardware specs but that's more exception than the rule.
    With streaming/syncing combined I also think any network deficiencies show up more than they used to.

  • Issue with authorizations for BPS

    Hi Experts,
    There was an issue with authorizations for BPS. We have a large number of agents that need to enter plan data via a layout. In order to control the necessary authorizations, we would like to filter via something similar to a user exit using a function module in order to avoid having to define authorization objects for each of the agents who have access to the systems. Right now, we are not sure if there is user exit concept available as it is for BW variables. Any body experienced similar issue may share their experience.
    Regards,
    Ankit

    Hi,
    In BPS, you can use user specific variables or you can set up a Variable of type exit. You can also have a variable of type authorization which uses the security / authorization of the BW system.
    Hope it helps...

  • Photoshop batch production - issues with 'save for web'

    Hi,
    I'm having an issue with 'save for web' on a batch. I've just spent the last 2 hours searching the web and this forum and although the issue gets touched upon, the threads either suddenly head off in another direction, end, or i just struggle to make sense of the answers given.
    I have 350 images that i want to resize to thumbnails and then save for web. 2 hours ago this seemed like a 5 minute job.
    I creat an action called 'batch_thumbnail' and press 'Record'.
    I then select 'File' > 'Open' and select an image to open using the dialog box.
    I then select 'Image' > 'Image Size' and resize the image to the thumbnail size (200 x 125) and press 'OK'.
    I then select 'File' > 'Save for Web and Devices', set my optimisation settings and press 'save'.
    Using the dialog box that pops up, i navigate to a pre-created directory called 'thumbs' and press 'save'.
    I then select 'File' > 'Close' and on the dialog box that pops up i select 'Don't Save'.
    I then stop the action from recording.
    So far so good.
    I then select 'File' > 'Automate' > 'Batch...' and the dialog box appears.
    I select my action in the 'Action' drop down menu.
    In 'Source' i set the drop down menu to 'Folder', select 'Choose' and select the target directory with my 350 images in.
    In 'Destination' i set the drop down menu to 'Folder', select 'Choose' and select the target directory (thumbs), where i wish to save the thumbs.
    In 'File Naming' i leave the first box as 'document name', set the second to '_thumb' and have the third as 'extension'.
    I then click 'OK'.
    And this is where the problem begins. Everything works fine till it trys to save the second image. I can see what's happening, as the directory path and image name that are used whilst setting up the SFW part of the action, are getting hardcoded into the action. So every resulting image is being saved as the same file, instead of being overriden by the settings in 'File Naming'.
    I've tried selecting 'Override action 'Save' command', but it doesn't make any difference. Is it actually possible to batch produce files using 'Save for Web and Devices'?
    Cheers,
    James

    I have written a couple of Save For Web batch processors, they may be of use to you?
    They can both resize and run an action if required.

  • What's possible issue with original Airport?

    Hi,
    I recently just purchased a used Powerbook G4 867 512M and installed an original airport card. The signal strength indicator seems to flicker in and out from no strength to highest but mainly resting at the "second" bar strength. This laptop is sitting next to a G4 tower which is getting full strength. Is there a possible issue with my laptops connectivity? Should I re-seat the airport card? What could be the issue?
    Thanx in advance.

    Hi,
    Duane. Althoughity, I didn't verify whether the card had any physical connectivity issues, I don't think that is the problem. I made the simple move in location and that seem to have change the "bar" strength. I guess where I was was not a good area for network connectivity. Thanks for possible solutions and causes.

  • Issues with nested for loops - saving images from a camera

    Hi all,
    I've written a vi. to capture a specific number of images ('Image No') and save these images, outputted to a folder of my choice.  Each image is identified sequentially.  However, I wish to do a number of iterations ('Run') of this capture sequence, such that the filename of each image would be 'Filename (Run)_(Image No).png', e.g. run 5, image 10 would be 'Filename 5_10.png'.  I have tried a nested for loop for this but I receive an error 'Asynchronous I/O operation in progress' (I've attached a printscreen).
    Can anyone assist me in solving this problem? I preiously posted this in machine Vision but got no response (http://forums.ni.com/t5/Machine-Vision/Capturing-image-sequences-issues-with-nested-for-loops/m-p/19...).  Please find attached my vi.

    Thanks
    Praful

    I understand you were trying to post something helpful to people, but sorry, this list is appalling.
    1) Use Bulk Processing feature BULK COLLECT with LIMIT and FOR ALL for DML instead of row by row processing
    No, use pure SQL.
    2) Use Data Caching Technique/Options to cache static data
    No, use pure SQL, and the database and operating system will handle caching.
    3) Use Pipe Line Table Functions whenever possible
    No, use pure SQL
    4) Use Global Temporary Table, Materialized view to process complex records
    No, use pure SQL
    5) Try avoiding multiple network trips for every row between two database using dblink, Use Global temporary table or set operator to reduce network trip
    No, use pure SQL
    6) Use EXTERNAL Table to build interface rather then creating custom table and program to Load and validate the data
    Makes no sense.
    7) Understand Oracle's Cost based Optimizer and Tune most expensive SQL queries with help of Explain plan
    What about using the execution trace?
    8) Follow Oracle PL/SQL Best Practices
    Which are?
    9) Review tables and their indexes being used in the SQL queries and avoid unnecessary Table scanning
    You mean design your database and queries properly?  And table scanning is not always bad.
    10) Avoid costly Full Table Scan on Big Transaction tables with Huge data volume,
    It depends if that is necessary or not.
    11) Use appropriate filtration condition on index columns of seeded Oracle tables directly mapped to program parameters
    No, consider that too many indexes can have an impact on overall performance and can prevent the CBO from picking the best plan.  There's far more to creating indexes than just picking every column that people are likely to search on; you have to consider the cardinality and selectivity of data, as well as the volumes of data being searched and the most common search requirements.
    12) Review Join condition on existing query explain plan
    Well, if you don't have your join conditions right then your query won't work, so that's obvious.
    13) Use Oracle hint to guide Oracle Cost based optimizer to choose best plan for your custom queries
    No.  Oracle recommends you do not use hints for query optimization (it says so in the documentation).  Only certain hints such as APPEND etc. which are more related to certain operations such as inserting data etc. are acceptable in general.  Oracle recommends you use the query optimization tools to help optimize your queries rather than use hints.
    14) Avoid applying SQL functions on index columns
    Why?  If there's a need for a function based index, then it should be used.
    15) Use appropriate hint to guide Oracle CBO to choose best plan to reduce response time
    See 13.
    In short, there are no silver bullets for dealing with performance.  Each situation is different and needs to be evaluated on its own merits.

  • Issue with cookies in DMZ multi node envt

    Hi ,
    We are facing the following issue at our client site:
    The client has implemented iStore and iSupport on top of the existing Oracle Applications (11.5.10 ).
    For these two modules they have added the DMZ node for their customers to make istore order and to use isupport.
    And for the other internal users who use the other modules they have the internal node. Both the internal and external nodes have different domain name.
    They also have some internal users having access to their istore and isupport as well as other module access. So they access the apps both from the external and internal nodes.
    The issue is, that when the user log-on to istore/isupport thru the external node (eccp.company.com domain).
    Once they are in istore/isupport pages, without log-off or closing the browser, if the user goes to the internal node url AppsLocalLogin.jsp (prodapp01.company.com) on the same browser with a difft user name, he gets the resp. of the user who had logged thru the external node on the home page with the LAF changes for iStore and iSupport. But it will not allow them to navigate further. So the users wont see their regular home page when they logon to the internal node in this case. This might be because the home page (AppsLocalLogin) doesn’t associate the correct cookie when the user log-on thru the internal node on the same browser (The browser has both the cookies).
    How to solve this issue? Is there any set-up/patch available for this scenario? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

    I don't see much relevance of this issue with OAF. It is more of your DMZ setup issue. For better response, you can post it in forum "Managing Oracle Applications" http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=40&start=0

  • Peformance issue with iSetup for loading fnd_flex_value_norm_hierarchy recs

    Hi
    The customer site where I am working in currently has implemented isetup to load data from Hyperion DRM to Oracle GL. They are currently on 11i.AZ.F patch level.
    The customer has constantly had problems in two areas with iSetup -
    1. iSetup has a limitation that all existing children records plus new ones being added have to sent in the XML file provided as input to iSetup. For eg. one parent ENTXXX might have 15000 children records i.e records in FND_FLEX_VALUE_NORM_HIERARCHY. Now when 2 children are removed from this parent in Hyperion DRM and these two records sent to Oracle iSetup for getting deleted from the parent, the current implementation stipulates that iSetup requires in the XML input file the remaining 14998 records. Thats how it knows to remove the two nodes. This is a huge performance issue.
    They are looking at loading into iSetup only the two deleted nodes with an action code of DELETE and let iSetup handle this rather than having to provide the entire list of children less the removed nodes for iSetup.
    2. Can we load using the final xml file directly by calling any Java class/process directly rather than going through iSetup Loader Concurrent Request?
    3. Is there any documentation on how to use the isetup Java classes?
    Will upgrading to 11i.AZ.H patch level solve any of the above concerns/issues?
    Regards,
    Richard

    #1. I guess, you are referring to the problems that you are encountering while loading GL COA. You may log SR against GL to know more details on how API loads data to instance. DELETE is a specific requirement in your case and I would suggest you to work with GL team and they may provide some solution or workaround to overcome this performance issue.
    #2. No, concurrent program does good amount of pre-processing that you would not get if you directly call the java classes.
    #3. Not sure, what you are exactly looking at. Are you looking for user guide to write your own iSetup API classes?
    11i.AZ.H has got good amount of performances fixes overall and it is recommended release on top of 11.5.10.2CU. I would suggest you to upgrade to 11i.AZ.H.
    Specific to GL COA issue, I don't think 11i.AZ.H would really help you much. It is very much functional issue with respect to API and you have to work with GL team to get workaround/solution. This may involve customizing the API according to your requirement.
    Thanks
    Mugunthan.

    I developed a java fx application with version 1.3 and I 've now a big issue...during use memory grows until application crashes...
    Is there a way to release memory during use..i read about problem with java fx release of memory...my application is almost not usable and I can't upgrade it to 2.0.
    Can you give me some help?
    I run it in this way
    javafx -classpath xxxx.jar x2.Main
    is there some option to optimize it? To increase memory for jvm?

  • Send Issues with Outlook for Mac (2011 / V15) and Exchange 2013 SP1

    Hi all,
    we have a strange issue with only with Outlook for Mac Users (version 2011 and the newest Outlook Version (V15) from Office 365) connected to our Exchange Server 2013 SP1. Some emails which we send out to the exactly same recipient are not sent through our
    Exchange Server.
    We have sent 8 emails with subject "test1, test2, test3...". Only test 3-6 was arriving to the recipient. The other emails are in the "sent" folder but it was not sent out through the Exchange.
    What we can see with "Get-MessageTrackingLog" is, that the Recipients and MessageSubject are empty for these emails:
    Timestamp Sender Recipients MessageSubject
    25.02.2015 16:48:52 [email protected].. {}
    25.02.2015 17:04:43 [email protected].. {}

    25.02.2015 17:13:55 [email protected].. {}
    We can still reproduce the issue on different Mac computers.
    Thanks for any help in advance!
    Thanks and best regards

  • BB BOLD 9700 sync issues with Outlook for MAC

    Hi Support,
    I hope that you can help me?  I have been having issues with my BB calendar not being able to sync with my Outlook for MAC calendar.  I am using BB OS 6.0, Blackberry Desktop software 2.2.0 and Mac OS X version 10.7.2.
    I have been able toget around the calendars not syncing but this morning I added iCal to iCloud, stupid move as it erased my entire calendar.
    i was wondering if someone could help me restore my Outlook calendar and have my BB and calendar sync properly.
    Please Help!!!

    Hello and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    The BlackBerry Desktop Software needs a local calendar for sync. It does not support the iCloud.
    You will need to create a new local calendar in your iCal to continue synchronizing with the Desktop Software.
    As for restoring your Outlook calendar, you will need to talk to Apple for assistance.
