Possible to share my internet connection os x lion to iphone 4s

Trying to use bluetooth PAN to share my ethernet connection on my macbook pro running Lion
TIA
Kevin

I'm sure it is possible, but that would be a question for a forum delaing with the operating system on your laptop which you neglected to mention.
Assuming its Windows for instance this seems to be what you want:
http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/78515-share-internet-via-bluetooth.ht ml
Basically The Sharing would be done first from the Laptop, and the connection to the iPad would just be bluetooth pairing which would be done through the Bluetooth settings in Settings.
If its Mac possibly this would work for you

Again it will vary depending on the operating system on your Laptop.

    If not why option available
    Thanks!

What Carolyn says is correct. You can, however, share an Internet connection with your iPhone wirelessly by turning in Internet sharing (found in System Preferences > Sharing.) If your MacBook Pro is already using a wireless connection, you can just connect to the same wireless network it is using.
    Best of luck.

  • Can Airport Express share an Internet connection via Thunderbolt Ethernet

An increasing number of hotels are now charging for every device that you use to connect to the Internet. I am travelling to India next week for work and the hotel I am staying at has this policy. I have not discovered a way of sharing a Wifi account between several devices. I travel with an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air.
What if I connect my MacBook Air via wireless. Can I share my Internet connection (Internet Sharing in Sharing) by connecting an Airport Express to the ethernet port (thuderbolt ethernet) and create a wireless network that way? If possible, what configuration would I need on the AEX, wold it be bridge mode?

This is why I travel with 2 AirPort Express devices.
For hotels with wireless only....one Express is configured to "join" the hotel wireless network and it provides an Ethernet signal to the second Express which is configured to "create" a wireless network for multiple devices.
The hotel network only "sees" one device....the AirPort Express that is joining....so I'm only charged for one device, but can connect multiple devices if I want.
If the hotel has an Ethernet jack, you only need one Express..the one configured to 'create" a wireless network. Again, the hotel only "sees" one device....because I do not use Bridge Mode.....but I can connect as many wireless devices as I want.
Both methods work about 95% of the time at "unknown" hotels. Generally, I stay at "known" hotels where I know that things will work.

    Hello.
I've tried to share my internet connection using wifi, two computers were connected with each other, but one had not internet connection. What can I do to fix it, and have internet access on both computers?

It's actually even easier than that....
I never had to create an adhoc network.

  • Help setting up using my airport extreme to share my internet connection

I want to use my built-in airport extreme to share my internet connection with my PS3. I have a verizon aircard and have read on the internet that this can be done (but not necessarily with airport). I turned on internet sharing with airport and my ps3 reads my connection and obtains my ip address, but then it says could not connect to internet due to DNS server error.
Could someone run me down the process step-by-step so I can see what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
P.S. I have a iMac running on leopard if that matters.

ll959reds, Welcome to the discussion area!
Unfortunately the Internet Sharing provided by OS X does not provide nearly the configuration possibilities as even a very inexpensive wireless router.
Also if the firewall is enabled on the iMac, it applies equally to all ports including the AirPort (wireless) connection to the PS3. Therefore the firewall will block many of the requests from the PS3. To solve this issues, you would either need to disable the iMac's firewall or configure the iMac's firewall to allow connections via the AirPort side.
A much simpler solution is to use a wireless router instead of your iMac to provide the connection for the PS3.

  • How to share my internet connection on my macbook with my iPhone ?

Hi guys, Do you know how to share my internet connection on my macbook with my iPhone. I have already made my own network, and I allowed sharing Internet , but it didn't work. Can you help me , please?

If your carrier provides the service, go to Settings > General > Network > Personal Hotspot.  If you don't see the Personal Hotspot option, then your carrier does not support it.
Note that you'll have to pay for a 'tethering' data plan on top of your normal iPhone data plan.

In case of lost internet connection during mountain lion download from app store, do i have to start over?

How do I speed this up.  I have a fast internet connection but this is obviously not right.
The speed of the downlaod is dependant on the speed of your Internet connection. "I have a fast Internet connection...," doesn't actually mean anything unless you provide some numbers.
I have a cable Internet connection with 32 Mbps download speeds, but if you have DSL, you would probably be limited to 1.5 Mbps. Some would call both of these connections "fast," but obviously one is faster than the other.
What is the speed of your Internet connection?? Don't say, "fast."

  • How to share broadband internet connection on Satellite A200-1VG

    Hi,
I am very new to the world of laptops, 3 days old. In fact, I have a desktop (the OS is XP professional) and have just bought my self a Satellite A200-1VG (the OS is Vista).
I believe it is possible for 2 machines to share a broadband connection, but how I do not know. I must confess to being quite ignorant when it comes to technology ( you have probably gathered that by now) and I ask that any advice given will be given in not too technological language.
Thanks in advance from a newbie.
    MegP

Okay, firstly some routers or mdoems come with 2 ports on the back so you can connect two different computers so simply plug them both in
if not, then i advise you buy a router which allows you to add numerous computers to the same network via wires or add numerous computers wirelessly
i have one computer connect to my netgear router -wired
i have one computer wirelessly connected with a Netgear USB wireless reciever
then i got my laptop which is connected via wireless
i have xbox live which i connect to the internet via my laptops wireless connection, this can be done with any pc or laptop aswell
    what you do is
wireless networks - where it showws any detected networks
change advanced options - on the side
    advanced tab
then allow other computers to use this computers internet connection
    simple as
all you do is plug in your other pc or whatever

  • Can I share my internet connection via wifi AND use my wireless printer at the same time?

Not completely familiar with  wifi capabilities. I have this new setup in my office. I want to share my iMac internet connection via wifi so I can text and check emails using my iPhone (no cell service inside the building). Which works fine. However, I now cannot print wirelessly to my HP printer (LaserJet Pro 400 color). Once Internet sharing is off, I can print just fine. Any other wireless options, or just go get a long USB cable?

    Hi,
It is not a multitasking printer, other devices may keep it therefore the best option in this case: connect it to your wireless router and all devices which are conntected to this router can sahre the printer.
    Regards.

  • Mac Mini doesn't share its internet connection

    HI,
I have a Mac Mini 3,1 (intel core 2 duo, 2GHz), with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and an inbuilt AirPort Extreme with the Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.42.4) firmware.
I am trying to share its ethernet connection to the internet with an iPhone 3GS via WiFi.  I am able to turn on internet sharing.  The iPhone recognizes the wifi link and I am able to connect the iPhone to the computer.
However, when I bring up Safari on the iPhone, the iphone timesout trying to go to any webpage, even a simple one like www.google.com.  In the Network settings on the mini, the Ethernet link shows the green "connected" symbol, but the airport link shows the amber "self-assigned IP" symbol.
I have tried connecting the iPhone in exactly the same manner with a current generation iMac and it browse the internet with no trouble at all.  Why won't the mac mini work as flawlessly as the iMac?  Can anyone help?
    jameseg

Yes, Ethernet is at the top of the connection list.  See picture.
    Airport is also on.
    Internet sharing is on.
No encryption (i.e. no WEP is being used).  And the channel is set to automatic.
Moreover, the airport network settings are set to DHCP and I have tried renewing the DHCP lease.
Any ideas?  I have trolled the forums and have found no solution.  I've tried selecting specific channels, I've tried DHCP with a manual IP addres, I've tried with and without encryption.  I've also tried creating a computer-to-computer network with the iPhone.  Nothing seems to work.
Yet, when I use internet sharing on an iMac running SL 10.6.8 everything works fine.

  • Is it possible to turn off "Internet Connect / Authentication Failed" msgs

Greetings and thank you for your time.
My network connect is set up to automatically connect wirelessly or through Ethernet...this is fine.
However, every time I open my notebook or start it up,
If my computer cannot connect through those two, (airport is off/no cable attached) it constantly sends the pop-up message: "Internet Connect / Authentication Failed". 3 times over a period of 15min.
Is there any way to turn this warning off ?
I am not trying to access a connection & Mail/Safari are closed.
It makes it frustrating when you arrive at a meeting to start a presentation and you keep getting this popup that blocks all functions till you acknowledge it and click "ok".
Any suggestions other then turning off auto connect (which I appreciate when I do turn on Airport or plug in an ethernet cable.
Thank you for any support on this.
    Best regards, T

Greetings T, and Welcome to the Discussions!
We just have to find what it is that's tying to connect/call home, and disable it.
Common examples are Network Time... Set Date & Time Automatically.
    Software Update... Check for Updates...
    Dashboard Widgits & Rss Feeds.
    Automount Shares.
    Mail automatically checking for Mail.
I( was thinking more when I started, but the Berr is...
If all that fails, maybe get Little Snitch, it tells you when a program tries to send info to the internet so you can see what's going on in the background!

  • I cannot share my Internet connection from my Mac to my iPhone

When I enter the Sharing settings the box with "share you connection from" only gives me the chance of sharing from WIFI or from Bluetooth PAN, which I have no clue what is. So I assume that it is WIFI I have to click as it is a WIFI connection I want to share with my iPhone from my Mac.
In the box "To Computers using" I only get the chance of marking one box next to "Bluetooth PAN". If I do not check this box, the whole box called "Internet Sharing" is greyed out and I cannot check it. I check the Bluetooth PAN box and it says Internet sharing is on. However, I cannot find the signal on my iPhone?!
    ANY IDEAS?
    Oh, I use OS X 10.8.2
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks

If your computer is already connected to WIFI, and your iPhone can also connect to that same WIFI signal, why would anyone want to enable sharing? That would be completely redundant. You share from the router.
If, on the otherhand you are trying to tether your Mac to your phone, all tethering settings are done on the phone, provided you have the service enablked by your phone carrier. Then, you are simply going to use the Bluetooth connection to tether the mac to the phone.

  • (Tutorial) Share your Internet connection

Share my Internet access of the Wi-Fi via an Ethernet cable (RJ-45) to another laptop/PC.
    Please follow the following steps:
    1.   Connect your shared laptop to another laptop/PC by using an RJ-45 Ethernet cable connecting to each other.
2.At first, you’ll see both systems show the network is limited. It’s normal.
    3. In the system of the shared laptop, right-click the Wi-Fi icon and select Open Network and Sharing Centerto open its window. Then, click your Wi-Fi network.
    4. In Wi-Fi Status window, select Properties to open Wi-Fi Properties window.
    5. In Wi-Fi Propertieswindow, select Sharingtab and check Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connectionto share the Wi-Fi.
    6. Now another computer which connected to your shared laptop should automatically detect the connection to Internet.
    7. If another computer still shows the network is limited, please select Diagnosebutton to ask Windows for help and follow the instructions to fix the problem. Usually, the Windows will reset the Ethernet and re-detect the Internet connection again.
    8. Instruction ended.

While turning cellular data off will keep your phone from connecting to cellular data WHEN wifi disconnects, it DOES not keep the Galaxy Note 3 from continually disconnecting from wifi. This only results in repeated periods of no data connectivity.
Turning off cellular data does not fix the wifi stability issue on the Galaxy Note 3. It will simply connect to wifi for a time, drop connection, reestablish a new connection for a time, drop connection, etc... If you are using a data connection during the cycling period, your app will simply come back with a message that no data connection is available and to try again later.
This is a major reason I have discontinued use of a Galaxy Note 3.
