Post-Production with RED Epic 48fps

OK Premiere Pro: shooting a music video at 48fps, native editing in CS 5.5 for the win? Or conversion to 24fps? Not making The Hobbit, but I wanted to try sourcing all the RED Epic footage at 48fps with no slow-mo. Also, can I playback in Redcine-X? So far it's assuming it's 24fps and playing slow-mo style..

I have a producer who is looking for a pricetag for a system that can handle and edit RED EPIC footage for a feature film suitable for theatrical presentation. We know we want to edit on Premiere and After Effects, but we have no clue what PC to buy, specs, drive space, and other accesories we have to have to work with the footage. Red Epic and Premiere CS6 workflow issues

Hello!
I'm looking for some advice or insight regarding working with RED footage in CS6.
In the past, I've worked with native RED footage on CS5.5 with no hiccups whatsoever. I'm not sure if it's CS6 or my computer's processing power, but RED footage has become uneditable for me.
After I updated to Yosemite, I began experiencing problems with being unable to import RED Epic footage due to "unsupported or corrupt files," and when I tried to fix the problem with the Adobe Labs plugins, it reported a "generic importer failure."
I then uninstalled and re-downloaded CS6, and now I can get footage into my project, but I can get no playback at all! Both the source and program monitors remain frozen on a frame and then have the yellow "Media Pending" screen. When I attempt to render a clip in my timeline (RED HD 4K 23.58 sequence) I get an "error compiling movie" box. I've tried other sequence settings, but still no dice.
I have my source monitor playback set to 1/2 resolution and my program monitor set to 1/4 resolution. Still nothing.
Here are my computer specs:
MacPro 2010
OS X 10.10.1
2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Processor
32GB Memory
ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU
Blackmagic Intensity Pro (Desktop Video 10.2.3)
I know that I can process the footage in REDCINE-X Pro (which will take a million hours), but I have a major project that is all shot with RED Epic footage and I was counting on Premiere's ability to edit natively, since I'm kind of on a tight schedule.
Am I looking at some hardware upgrades? If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Make sure your GPU has more than 768 VRAM.
Try a previously installed version of OS X.

Graininess: How to filter it out in post-production?

Hi, all,
I've just imported 3 nights' worth of footage with iMovie HD 6. The camcorder was unmanned the first night (sadly) and the second night I noticed quite a bit of graininess (probably due to the lighting of me being way in the back dimly lit, and the subject being up front with some overhead lighting.) Fixed that up with the camcorder settings for the 3rd night (after visiting www.hv20.com).
Soooo.... is there any way to fix up the footage from the first two nights in post-production with iMovie HD 6? Are there any settings to look at within the app (I'm new to it.) Are there any plug-ins or another app entirely that would help?

PS in iMovie 08, you can just pick a clip and boost the sound up to 200% Is there a similarly easy way to boost the sound in iMovie HD 6?

consumer camcorders do some marvel: they work in a bright sunlighted winter landsacpe, and with the 'light' of 3 candles under the chrismas tree.
when doing nightshots, your camera rises the gain extremely => 'grain'/noise.
I don't know of any effect, which allows to 'vanish' that.. adding a slight blurr to that scenery would erase the noise, but.. < caugh > blurrs the pics. (this is a widely discussed issue for still photographers too = same probs, even with pro tool Photoshop ..)
there's a free tool http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html#JVC claiming to reduce noise.. never used it, try on your own..
you can raise the volume by rasing the 'rubber band' in the audio track.
some people recommend, to copy/paste the same audio track, which should improve level (never tried).. iMHD6 has limits in audio processing, an export of audio only into some audioapp as Garageband or Audacity and a re-import into your IM project is recommended.

Moving Down from the Red Epic

Moving down from the Red Epic (65K) full kit to the Scarlet (to the Panasonic?) on down to the $4500 range, what are the best camcorders available in a progressive downward price range. Four or five models you think are a great value.
I personally like the older Panasonic cameras except for the scatterbrained format and in some models the faux 1920 x 1080 resolution. Suggestions welcome for other brands.

Earlier today I went to store during beginning of snow storm ( before it got too bad to go anywhere in my old car ). I did some whacky driving in very slippery conditions ( rear end fishtailing a few times to keep my speed up and not get stuck and balancing that with being somewhat "safe" on the road ).
I did get stuck on the hill leading to my parking lot and had to do some backward and forward gentle moving to finally get unstuck and get into my spot... which is now my spot for the next 2 days probably... so I bought plenty of beers when I was out. Go Vikings! Go Giants !
This page ( a secret link ).. was hard to do cause I haven't done it in like 7 months or so..the video on my own server junk.
Basically I had to export the video from 1920x1080 to 720x405 as FLV from my mousey computer and CS3 ( I'm using mov 264 source to cineform avi in cs3 ). If I wanted to have higher res for faster bandwidths I'd have to put links on the webpage to those other options more or less... and to be honest, nothing is fast enough to do full HD without buffering a lot first... so I don't know if it's worth it. My personal feeling is that it's not worth it. Too many people would have to stop the video, wait for the buffer, and then restart.. and in the end the only decent play would be the 2nd one...after you already have it downloaded.
Anyway, this is my cougar sled which is now parked after an exciting ride to stores... and now it's YOUR turn to post something from your new camera that has me drooling. This camera is the olympus TG1 cheapo thing that is real good for bad weather and shooting " visual reminders " of stuff... like when you go scouting for locations etc..use this thing..is very good for that. Can take into rain, snow, drop it on ground, it doesn't mind...even underwater !

Agree with Richard:
-Your device needs both the CR and LF. To accomplish this:
option 1: Concatenate the "end of line" string constant (this is a combination of CR and LF, located in the string pallete) to all your outgoing commands. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is false.
option 2: Concatenate only a CR to your command's strings. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is TRUE AND that the termination character is set to 10 (meaning LF) which I think is the default.

Interesting would be to configure the serial port to accept not one but two termination characters. The above links refers to the document "Developer Zone Tutorial: Termination Characters in NI-VISA.", where this is supposed to be possible. The document however is 404'ed.

Maybe this is relevant: I bought iphoto from the German apple store but I now live in Italy. I have tried German credit card with German invoicing address and Italian shipping address. And I have tried Italian credit card with Italian invoicing address and Italian shipping address. The phenomenon is the same: shipping address appears in red and I am asked to fill in the mandatory fields (which turn red whatever I enter).

what is the setting for the Print Products Store in the Advanced Tab of the iPhoto Preferences?
The country you select there has to match the billing address. And your billing address should match the country of your AppleID and credit card used with the AppleID.

Red Epic Importer not working in Premiere Pro 5.52 (what am I doing wrong?)

Hello:
I installed latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro 5.52 this week.
I immediately downloaded the RED EPIC Importer updates found here:

I believe I followed the directions accurately…After the installation I rebooted my Mac Pro...
When I tried to import the R3D sample files, I still received the same "corrupt file message" --even after installing the RED EPIC importer files
To be certain, I have reinstalled the RED EPIC Importer update several times----same error message…
My question: Do I need to clear a cache file, restart Premiere (while holding down a key) or do something else to make this work?
Forgive me for asking something that has been covered at length already -- I just don't see an answer....

I think I am seeing the same thing - or I am not doing something right.
Brand new Windows 7 machine with quadro4000.
CS5.5
HOWEVER> one workaround I think is to open the footage using the "view as" menu set to FILE DIRECTORY.
BUT I think this removed the HDR functionality that I get when I open the clips in Cine-x.
I thought that perhaps this was related to the initial transfer to our storage via a Mac platform and then copied over to our windows machine - but now I am not so sure.
I am pretty sure I also installed the drivers/importer files correctly, as I have done it twice now as well.
Anyone else having this issue?
Are we supposed to use a different workflow to bring the EPIC footage into a sequence?

Asking for advice on adding products with descriptions to webpage

I am a web design and dreamweaver newbie and am in my very limited experience, working on creating a virtual mall. I'ts something I always wanted to do...go figure..lol. I do have a lot of companies that will advertise and I have access to their Java and HTML links. I have created (in my mind...lol) I pretty decent start on a homepage from a free template and I want to create pages with pictures and descriptions but I am not sure the best way to go. I cannot afford to have a pro do this for me so I am fishing for some good advice. I know about creating tables but I hear that tables are so 90's and dreamweaver can do it better in a different format. I have looked through the forums for advice but not have found what I am specifically looking for. The way I have it from the homepage is that I have links to product types in the content portion of spry accordian and created pages akin to my homepage to display them but from there...not sure. I do not have a lot of available free time, hardly any to be honest, so if anyone can point me in a good direction or have any good ideas, I would really appreciate it. Here are my questions:
1. Is there a better method to display products besides tables in CS4, and if so, how would I best proceed? The idea is 3 columns and 4 rows of products with descriptions underneath. The links provided by the companies would take them to the company website to purchase. I didn't want to alarm the companies by posting a site without some products available but I need some help.
2. Is it possible and if so, is it a good idea to add a spry tabbed panels into the content portion of the spry accordian? Would I have to establish an editable region or something specific to allow it to be functionable?

1. I am not sure if I can even ask this coherently but will give it a shot Does DW have a tutorial on adding some type of flash css or revolving pictures to be built into my header area on the homepage? I do have DW fireworks and I really want to spruce it up...

For Umlaut, you could probably use phonetic keyboard. Highly recommended.
Use "Ukelele" to create keyboard layout and use dead key to map umlaut (like 'u = ü). With phonetic keyboard you can type as fast as with native keyboard (if not faster) and in unlimited number of languages, without re-learning the layout.
Brackets are quite easy accessible on Apple keyboard.

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.

i am using service product with task list in service order. in subsequent quotation (by DP80) the servcie product is coming as main item operations & materials in task list are coming as sub items.
in our case we may have to add some more operations (unplanned operations) in the service order apart from those (planned operations) already populated by task list attached to service product. and these operations need to be priced in subsequent quotation.
our problem: in the quotation even the unplanned operations are coming as subitems and hence there is no diferentiation between planned operations (coming from rask list) and unplanned operations (added manually in the service order). we need to differtiate between planned & unplanned operations in quotation for pricing purpose.

There are following work-around solutions from my point of view.
Option 1: create two different Std. Text Key in config Planned & Unplanned and also attach same in the task list.
All the planned operation will come with suffix Planned and same will be printed also. While you add the unplanned one that time addUn-planned std text key
You can also drive reporting , costing reports , confirmation report separately for all planned and unplanned items
Options 2: After goods posting you can find the cost difference of planned operation and unplanned operation. Devolve some Z report and based on same you can send final bill

How will i be able to post GR with 2 UOM which is not directly convertible. For example i need to post for a material AAAA with 1 PC and 10 EA. In this case, it is also possible that 1 PC can be 20 EA also. I'm using transaction MB1C and i need to see the 2 values in MMBE.

How to White balance in post production

I am working on a project that was used by two cameras, but one of the cameras white balance is different than the other. Is it possible to match the white balance in post production in final cut express so that the video quality looks very similar (without one seeming bright orange than the other)? Thank You for any help with this topic.

FCE has a Color Corrector in Browser>Effects>Color Correction>Color Corrector.
When you adjust one cameras clip to match the other you can copy and paste attributes to other clips

Hi,
My client gave me an interview she conducted to edit. The white balance is horrible. Is there anyway for me to fix this problem during post-production? I've been playing around with color correction and desaturation.

How much time do you have to turn this project around? In the Peachpit Apple Training Series, there is a training book titled "Advanced Color Correction and Effects in Final Cut Pro 5" that is an excellent resource for this.
It teaches you how to color correct using the four FCP scopes to get it right.
The Auto White function in Color Corrector 3-Way will put you in the ballpark IF there is a white object in the shot. If not, then you're on your own.
