I doubt there's a way to get those  in charge to change their minds, but it boggles the mind that you could  get enough data to totally cancel a program like this in the first  month and a half of launching a pre-release version of the application. The reactions of everyone I've heard from  is total shock on this. Just about everyone I've had contact with  thought ROME had a lot of potential.
I'm sure the vast majority of your potential user base never even heard of ROME before it was canned... A real shame...

lov2bugu, you said things the exact way I wanted to express them! It was like watching me talking to a SONY’s CEO.
I don’t really think they are not aware of the problems. SONY used to be the 27th largest company in the world, according to Forbes. They are now at the 456th place!!
They are aware of their problems and I think, the move to buy the remaining stocks from Ericsson, is a move to bounce back into the market. They found the right time, where the stock is too low and the economics around the globe don’t  look promising enough. I have to recognize them, all the bad phases they went into this year … hacking attack, loss of their factory in London, global economic climate etc.
But these are not excuses good enough not to produce quality, reliable and technologically advanced goods. I think that SONY is not to blame for the bad course SE has had. I think this is what SONY wants to revert. They want to “embody” all their technology … BRAVIA engines (TV Tech), Walkman and Cybershot tech (using Carl Zeiss lenses), VAIO (Comp tech) and finally PS3. Ericsson tried to integrate them, unsuccessfully.
Overall, I thing SONY, did not have or did not attempt to have the control of SE, hence, the answer you got back from SONY “… anything related to SE must be posted on the website of SE”. I think they will bounce. Just give ‘em some time. I’m willing to give them time, but not too much though. Just because I’ve always loved this brand!

Project ROME is a great tool to  create branded collateral quickly and easily!
Actually it is not... As long as we cannot import vector artwork from AI or other apps, this is useless. I would even go so far as to say unless this has a way of correctly dealing with CMYK and process colors it probably never will. It's a case of "It all looks pretty on screen but my print shop wants CMYK" or "it looks awful wehn printed" (due to lack of proper CM). And no offense to the kids, "branding" is not popping on your company logo on everything. Branding means producing a consistent, recognizable visual style based on a set of predefined elements and styles, which ROME does not allow us currently. We cannot store colors, object styles, font styles, use our own custom fonts and whatnot. Additionally, to be usable for establishing a branding regime inside an organisation, we would have to have a way of restricting use of specific things and lock down design elements, something which ROME doesn't do, either. so for what it's worrth, it allows some level of producing similar designs, but none of which I would call usable branding...

  • Creating Animations with Project ROME

Have you seen the animation clips (Create New > Animations > Anim Clips)?  If so, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what you can create yourself!
You can animate just about anything you create or bring into Project ROME! So, we want to know if you've created an animation yet and have anything you could share. If not, can we inspire you with a challenge?
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we thought it would be really fun to create animated Thanksgiving e-card invites. Begin brainstorming ideas for your animation and start using the tools to see your animation come to life!
Don't hesitate to post your wonderful creations to the Exchange. Tell us about your process, what you loved and if you ran into any problems. Good luck and have fun!

I created an animation/presentation project for students "Shapes_Project1" and posted to the ROME template exchange and to edexchange.adobe.com. It is designed to show students the function of the transform panel and how simple shapes can be changed and animated. It also gives the students an opportunity to create pages to demonstrate their understanding. Let me know what you think.

  • Project Management Question - timelines for Production system deployment

    Hi
I need an expert advice on setting up timelines for establishing an Oracle Apps Production environment. We are implementing Oracle HR & Payroll at an organization.
Our system architecture is a 2-node application tier and 2-node DB tier (RAC). RAC is configured by another party and we only have to prepare the application tier (2 nodes)
We would be installing Oracle Apps R11i (11.5.10) with jserv load balancing on the 2-nodes
Can anyone suggest how much time this should take to install/configure & patching of the application tier (on 2 nodes)?

  • ADOBE PROJECT ROME for scientific use?

    Dear developer,
    Dear ADOBE,
the official website of ADOBE PROJECT ROME released the following status:
    November 30, 2010
[...] The trial of Project ROME for Education has concluded. However, the commercial version of Project ROME will remain free to the public via Adobe Labs. No additional Project ROME software updates are planned at this time.
    source: http://rome.adobe.com/index.html (October 23, 2011)
May I use the software ADOBE PROJECT ROME for scientific use? I am planning to create mathematical assistance content just like material which is used in real repetitional lessons. I would like to publish the material, which was created by the software via my homepage.
I am looking forward to hear from you!
    Best regards
    SpWheel

im not adobe, nor am i a developer which works for adobe...
But it seems to me that the quote u made is also the answer to your question..
The commercial version will remain free..
commercial usually means u can use it either way, privately or commercially.
Besides, why shouldnt u make use of it?
This program is great, and i really do not understand why Adobe stopped support for it.

  • I keep getting error messages that a script "may have stoped responding", The script in question is "contentAreaUtils.js".

I just updated to FireFox v3.6.8, after using v3.5 successfully for many months. With the new version I keep getting error messages that a script "may have stopped responding", The script in question is "contentAreaUtils.js". My OS is Win2k SP4, with 253,424 KB RAM.
Is there a known fix. If not, is there an easy way to revert to FireFox v3.5 ?

Attached is an image of the error message.

  • Project Billing Question

    Hi All,
I have couple of Project billing questions. Hope you can help
1)A wrong customer was attached to project billing agreement, funding and base line also completed for the customer.
Now we realized that its wrong customer and want to change it to correct customer.
What are the options we have here?
Can we delete or end date the billing agreement?
will the funding be release from the wrong customner after deleting or end dating the billing agreement?
    2) Wrong customer attached to a project..agreements,funding,baselining are NOT done.
How can we delete this customer and add the correct customer?
The option to change the customer is grayed out.
    Appreciate if you can help.
    Thanks

    Hi
On your first question you said the agreement was created for wrong customer. Since you already baselined the funding, I assume you have that customer linked to the project.
You can go the Agreement form and  enter a negative funding line allocated to the same project. The total allocated amount will be zero. The agreement is now not allocated and free to be allocated to another project. If it is a wrong agreement you may update the agreement amount to zero.  Now create a new agreement for the right customer.
The open issue is with the project. You have a wrong customer associated with that project. However, system will not allow you to remove the customer - project record.  Solution depends on the way the project was setup. Did you enable customer at top task? if so, end date the top task and create an alternative top task with the right customer.
If the project has been set with a single customer you better close the project and start a new one.
However, if you need an alternative solution, I can suggest a custom method. Go to Help > ..> Examine and change the existing customer of the project to zero contribution.
Now you will be able to add the right customer to the project and have 100% contribution on it.

  • C- project certification question and material

    Hi Gurus,
I want to know is there any cretification for  SAP C- Projects  could you please let me if any one has SAP done c-project certification questions, or any relevant sites wherein I can get the same.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Hi Ashish,
cProjects being a part of the PLM package, you would need to undergo SAP PLM certification. As per my knowledge, there is no separate cProjects suite certification available.
However, there are training programs conducted by SAP for cProjects and xRPM. You may get the details regarding these from the marketplace. Please refer https://websmp101.sap-ag.de/partnerportal/apj/home
Let me know if this helps.

  • PRE9 Project Settings questions

I just got PRE9 and I am working on my first video.  The question I have is
about project settings and resolutions, etc.  I want to output the video to both DVD and to a file that can be copied to a USB thumb drive and plugged into my l 55in HDTV for playback.  it doesn't have to be HD video, but I do want it in 16:9 widescreen atleast.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

The project setting needs to match your video source (i.e. what you are putting *IN* to PRE9). So what is the source of your clip and what settings did your camera use at the time of shooting? How did you get it into PRE9? Ideally can you run one of your video clips through the free GSpot tool and post the screen shot here.
Getting your video output to any output (widescreen or standard) is a feature of the Share tab in PRE9. To output it to two formats (DVD and data file for your USB thumb drive) is two separate Shares that will be found under Share> Disc and Share> Computer (or possibly Share> Mobile Phones and Cameras).
Give us a bit more detail about where and how you want to play that USB thumb drive version.
    Cheers,
    Neale

  • Project manufacturing - Question about process

    Hi All,
I am trying to represent the following scenario in a project:
    Finished Product (FP)
    ---RM1 (raw material 1)
    ---RM2
    ---semi-finished assembly 1 (SF)
    RM3
    RM4
We have to assemble FP in the project. If I assign only FP as a material component in the project and run MRP, the system successfully generates planned orders for SF, RM1, RM2, etc.... I can then convert planned orders into purchase requisitions or production orders and do all consumption postings.
But, I want to represent the assembly process in the project, and I think the below assignment should be possible.
    WBS
    ---Network
    Activity 1
    RM3
    RM4
    Activity 2
    SF1 (-1 - negative quantity)
    Activity 3
    RM1
    RM2
    Activity 4
    FP (-1 - negative quantity)
The negative quantity should mean that the specified component (SF1 or FP) is assembled in that network activity. However, when I have a negative quantity in the component, MRP is not generating the planned order for that material. Also, it's generating redundant planned orders for RM1, RM2, etc... - once for the reservation for that component and once by exploding the reservation for SF1 or FP. Should I have the reservation / purchase requisition indicator for the individual components set as Never? In that case, do I just post consumption to the respective network activities when the respective RM* is received to stock? Any input you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Ahmed,
My ultimate goal is to produce FG, right? Now, I am using PP as well. I am trying to figure out what level of BOM should be represented in the project using component assignments also using MRP to create the corresponding procurement parameters. I was asking about the production order for FG, because Mahendra's solution doesn't create a production order for the FG due to the negative quantity in the project. I think he answered that part of the question saying that for the FG, the network acts as the production order and delivers FG to stock. Am I correct? Please let me know.
My explanation may be a little confusing, but please let me know if you need any further clarifications to solve the problem .

  • CUA Project Propsal Questions

    Hi Experts,
I am doing research on CUA and have been asked to provide answers to the following questions.  If you have been though a CUA Config/implementation recently, I would appreciate your feedback.  We are a company of 10,000+ SAP Users (approx. 1500 dev/QA users we would be using for CUA)
•Will Security save time by making Central Changes to user masters?
    •Cost savings?  Other benefits?
•How much time to configure each system?
    •How much Basis involvement?
    •Any other resources required?
•Will users benefit from Single Sign On with CUA?
•Will Basis have more work after system refreshes?
•What is Virsa's role/how does it integrate with CUA?
•Are there any known showstopper functionality deficits with CUA that would prevent us from using it
•We will use ourSolution Manager server for this project and for eventual production usage.  Any suggestions or feedback regarding this?
    •Hours the project would take?
      1.BASIS
      2.Security
      3.Change Management
•Will a Refresh schedule be changed because CUA is implemented?
•Have you come across any issues with refreshes?
There are alot of questions and I will be more than happy even if only one question is answered.  As always, thank you for your expertise and advise.
    Teresa Wilson

    Hi Teresa
    > •Will Security save time by making Central Changes to user masters?
Yes if you have a broad landscape - i.e. lots of clients and systems
    > •Cost savings?  Other benefits?
User admin will be easier, CUA landscape monitoring will take additional overhead.  Personally I would use say you could save 25% of time when administering users if your landscape is conducive to using CUA.
    > •How much time to configure each system?
Once you have done one, it should take no longer than an hour for each system (less once you get the hang of it)
    > •How much Basis involvement?
Not much - maybe get them to set up the RFC destinations (specific CUA ones are good, but watch out for people trying to use them for remote CATT execution etc).  Basis may want to schedule the job which processes the userclone idocs in the target system.  It depends how you do things in your place.
    > •Any other resources required?
    No
    > •Will users benefit from Single Sign On with CUA?
I will defer to the far more knowledgable Mr Alsop on this one as I haven't a clue
    > •Will Basis have more work after system refreshes?
Usually limited to removing, re-adding in the CUA system.  It may save them time as the users can be pushed out of the master again if required (though will need to reprocess loads of failed idocs when they get locked)
    > •What is Virsa's role/how does it integrate with CUA?
What do you mean by Virsa? company doesn't exist any more.  If you use compliance calibrator then has no impact at all.  If you use Access Enforcer then there might be, but without knowing what you are doing, it's hard to say.
    > •Are there any known showstopper functionality deficits with CUA that would prevent us from using it
It can be a bit flakey, though has improved over the years.  It is not a magic pill which will solve all your problems.  You will get frustrated with it.  You have to do change reporting out of the CUA master otherwise you will only get change logs by the idoc processing batch user ID.  You need to keep on top of the idocs and log monitoring.  If you have a simple setup with few clients then might not be worth it.
    > •We will use ourSolution Manager server for this project and for eventual production usage.  Any suggestions or feedback regarding this?
I would recommend 3 separate CUA's - one for dev, one for test, one for prod.  Do not have one covering all because if the CUA master goes down for whatever reason then you have extra work.  Assuming R/3 is your main system (with lets say a BW and an APO) then I generally prefer to set the R/3 system as the master as there are usually fewer problems when doing role admin for that client.  That is only a personal preference though & lots of different parties recommend different things.
    > •Hours the project would take?
    >   1.BASIS
    >   2.Security
    >   3.Change Management
Impossible to say without knowing all details of your landscape.  Basically, you should be able to set up and test a reasonably complex CUA in less than a day.
    > •Will a Refresh schedule be changed because CUA is implemented?
I don't think so, though CUA should be taken into account as part of the activities
    > •Have you come across any issues with refreshes?
Yes, BASIS people messing up the CUA config or not doing the post refresh steps they were supposed to do.
Good luck.  It can be very useful and very frustrating at times.  There are loads of installation guides out there.  As I have said earlier, it will not be the answer to all of your problems and does require extra monitoring.  In a project rampup situation where you have lots of users setup/changing in different clients then it can really help take a bit of the manual processing burden.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers
    Alex

  • Exporting Standard DV back to DV Tape & Projecting DV Questions....

My indie movie is finally finished, and I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some information on the next step.
    Question #1
What is the best way to export this movie for large screen theater projection? The movie is Anamorphic 16x9 Standard DV. I was told by one person to export back to a 3 hour DV Tape, and attach the a DV deck to the projector for showing. Is this really the best way? Do people have problems with audio sync when exporting back to tape. I always have audio sync problems when I capture tapes to hardrive. I have to re-capture things all the time, and sometimes I have to capture piece by piece.
    Question #2
Do projectors actually stretch the image (pixels)? How exactly does a projector make the image so large. My real question is "what is my standard DV footage going to look like projected on a big screen, and about how big can I go?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! These forums have been so good to me over the years.
    Frankie

First, congratulations on completing your film!
    Now about your post:
I would make a print to tape.
The first thing I would do is make a special version of the timeline just to generate the tape that you will be projecting. I would include some extra graphics (your logo?) and music at the head, so that when the tape rolls at your presentation, you have visual and audible conformation that everything is connected right, nobody pulled a cable by mistake, the projector is working and showing an image and the sound is up and playing to the house prior to the commencement of your actual movie.
If you roll the tape and don't see or hear that extra material you put on the head of the reel, it will give you a chance to stop, see what is wrong (the sound guy forgot to bring the volume up for example) and the re-roll all prior to the start of your movie. Re-cueing and playing the graphics again is only slightly embarrassing, missing the first 50 seconds of sound on your film as run madly through the theatre is much, much worse.
You will have to output to a tape and verify sync to make sure you don't have audio sync problems. MAKE SURE YOU USE "PRINT TO VIDEO" which is File>Print To Video, or control-M. Do not just play the timeline and record the output. Using Print to Video locks the system down to one task - outputting every frame correctly. I don't think I have ever had an audio sync problem Printing to Video, but I don't use your system - so I would carefully spot check the tape, possibly watching the whole thing. If everything is OK on that tape, I would output a second copy of the movie just to have as protection in case something goes wrong with the first tape. And carry that backup copy with me to the show.
In answer to your second question, the only real answer I can give you is that you need to go to the venue and test run the projection and make the call as to how large you can go/are comfortable with. The projectors they use now in large venues are amazing in quality. I did a project for a charity that was projected and the quality was jaw dropping. Just remember - the laws of physics mean: for any given projector, the larger the image, the dimmer the image will be. Myself, I would rather have a smaller, brighter image, than a larger dim one. But this is your call. You really need to do a test projection.
(If you are interested, here is a basic rule of thumb, taught to me by a film DP a long time ago: go into a theatre, go to the middle of the theater; and then one or two rows back from there, if you hold a standard piece of folder paper, 8.5" x11" vertically at arms length, the paper should just cover the screen top to bottom. The width of the screen will then be determined by the aspect ratio of your film. If this applies today, I don't know, but it was also told to me by a film sound mixer as the method to use to find the right distance from the screen to be in the sweet spot for surround sound mixes.)
The other major reason for doing the test projection is to hear what your movie sounds like when played in a large venue. There is a reason film sound mixers make the large dollars, and have mixing suites that resemble theaters. Mixing sound for large venue presentation is an art and science unto itself. The mix that you have been working on in your edit bay is going to sound completely different when played at full volume in a theatre, you must hear it once and give guidance to whoever is controlling the sound as to what it is supposed to sound like. Also, it is likely you will be doing your test projection when the venue is empty, add the crowd and they will instantly suck the volume down like a sponge. Experienced sound engineers know that one the crowd fills the theatre, they need to raise the volume higher than at the rehearsals. Again, having the little extra bit of sound that we added to the head of the tape will help verify that we are loud enough so the audience will hear your film right from its start.
    Good luck!
