Posting Threads causing server problems too?

I don't feel sorry for apple at all releasing everything in 24 hours, but I think threads are probably not helping either, but then again I think different server's for web vs. itunes.

Good grief, if they're using the same servers for these boards as they are for their iTunes hosting, they have bigger problems than some ticked off customers.

  • Servlet spawning multiple threads causes server to freeze PC

I'm attempting to write a servlet which, upon receipt of a particular GET request, spawns a thread to do various work which can then be queried by a different GET request. A third type of GET request stops a specified thread.
This is working fine, except that I can only seem to have spawned one thread at a time. When I spawn another thread, my entire PC stops responding (even Windows Task Manager becomes so sluggish that I cannot kill the server) , and I have to do a hard reset of my PC. I'm using Sun Java System Application Server. The server logs do not contain any errors. I've tried the NetBeans debugger a bit, and it seems to happen when I call the start() method of the Thread.
This is my first experience with servlets, as well as my first experience with Sun Java System Application Server. I'm also not a Java expert by any means. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I haven't a clue what.
I can post my code if necessary, but does anyone have any idea what could be causing the server to stop responding just because a servlet spawns two threads? Should I post my code?
Sorry if this is a n00b question. Thanks in advance.

I think you may need to spawn it into HTML frame. Each frame will perform
              and download independently.
Is it what you need ?

  • HTTP POST to PHP server problem

Hi, im trying post a long string to php from a MIDLET, but i have some problems. When i send the whole String, my php server cant receive the request (i have not any response), but, if the string that i send is 1/5 from the original, the process is successful correctly. have somebody any idea?
    thx

this is my problem, extracted from another topic on this forum:
    "Hi everyone.
I have a problem, and hope someone may help me.
My midlet is uploading sizeable data via http POST.
    I'm using WTK104, since i need MIDP1.0
The code have been tried on DefaultGrayPhone emulator
    and add-on Nokia's Series 60 Emulator.
Both emulators chunck data, however in different ways.
Deafult one simply produces wrong chunk length (possibly a bug),
Nokia's one always chunks by equal offsets of 2016 bytes.
I'm not using flushing, just close. All the data is being send
at once by one output stream write call.
So I believe (after proper investigation) that MIDP will use chunked Transfer-Encoding method whatever
on such sizeable a data as mine is (up to 50KB) and there's no way to override this behaviour.
Here the main problem appears - Apache refuses to accept chunked encoding in request. The corresposnding message is given in error log
*chunked transfer encoding forbidden*. The returned code is 411 - Content-Length requred. I see no way to override this behaviour of Apache. I was trying to upload my data into Zope web-server, which is my primary goal, but it doesn't handle chunked request either.
Has anyone faced the same problem? Who has managed to POST sizeable data from midlet? Which web servers did you use for that?
    Any inputs are highly appreciated!
    Anton"

on such sizeable a data as mine is (up to 50KB) and
there's no way to override this behaviour. Is this true? When I try to set the content-length headers and then write a large byte[] to the output stream I got from an HttpConnection, the HttpConnection appears to remove the content-length header altogether and automatically sets the transfer-encoding to chunked.
Note- I am not calling flush on the outputstream, but I am calling httpconnection.getResponseCode, which I believe calls flush on the outputstream.

  • Accidentally associated Adobe AIR file with Acrobat, now an otherwise easily fixed problem has been causing me far too much anger.

I accidentally associated an Adobe AIR file to open Adobe Acrobat in it's stead, now an otherwise easily fixed problem has been causing me far too much anger.
Basically I downloaded an .air file after recently reformatting my computer, and I tried to open it with Acrobat. Now, since there is no actual application and or shortcut created by AIR I can't just tell the file to use that. I've found that I'm not alone in this issue, have tried a few things I've read on both this forum and others, and have come to no resolution as of yet. This file isn't anything of any great significance, but it bugs me so much that at this point I just want to know how to fix this and win this little battle.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

Thank JJMack - that has helped me get closer to the problem.
I opened the resource monitor and you can see a screenshot of what is going on when I try to save a simple, 9 Kb graphic. (I'm saving an RGB JPG, not a PNG or animated GIF file. Doing anything complex / memory intensive than saving or simple edits in PS is almost impossible.)
As you can see from the screencap below, when I save (it doesn't make a difference if it is save vs. save to web or a network or local drive) Photoshop becomes unresponsive. (From past experiences, if I try to switch to a non-Adobe program it will also freeze and sometimes crash.) When PS becomes unresponsive, the NT Kernel & System immediately goes to the top of the list and uses 200+ threads.
From there Photoshop will typically be frozen for about a minute, then will recover and take another minute or two to finish the save. At that point PS is okay, but the rest of the computer is still frozen with CPU oscillating up to almost 100%.
As soon as the NT Kernel & System settles down, everything is back to normal again (as long as I haven't used other programs, which in one case required a hard reboot.)
It is pretty clear the problem is rooted in Adobe / Window 7 as I only have this problem with Adobe programs. (Illustrator isn't as bad, but I've had problems with it as well.)
The question is: How do I fix this, as it is killing my ability to work?
    Thanks! Julie

I am using itunes 10 and trying to consolidate my files.  I keep getting the error "Copying files failed.  The file name was invalid or too long".  How can I indentify what file is causing this problem or resolve this issue?

    BUMP
Yes, I just get that message. I don't see how I could investigate this problem.
I didn't mention that this happened when I was consolidating my library, not copying files to another computer.
In other words, I'm using a "normal" itunes procedure, itunes won't complete it, and won't tell me exactly why or how to figure out how to fix it...
Is there at least some easy way to tell which files were successfully copied to my itunes music folder so I can work on moving the uncopied files?
    Can anybody help me?

  • Authenticator Problem: ProtocolException: Server redirected too many times

My program needs to login to a certain website, and I'm using Authenticator to do this. If I supply valid credentials this works fine. However, my program needs to handle the case of the user entering invalid credentials. The site responds to invalid logins by redirecting to itself. If I type the URL into a browser, I get a login prompt, and if I enter an invalid login, it just reloads the page and gives me a new login prompt.
Since java automatically tries to login to every page with the given authenticator, it gets stuck in a loop. Login, redirected to same site, login again, etc. until this exception is thrown:
java.net.ProtocolException: Server redirected too many times (20)
What's the best way to handle this? I've tried adding HttpURLConnection.setFollowRedirects(false); but it doesn't seem to work (it still redirects).

The URL I'm connecting to is http://webservices.schedulesdirect.tmsdatadirect.com/schedulesdirect/tvlistings/xtvdService
Here is my code. Right now it's set to assume an incorrect login if there was a redirect. It works, but it's not ideal imo.

The Tarantella Secure Global Desktop Enterprise Edition(4.0) have 20

Sorry, I forgot to ask whether you are using Solaris or Linux? I don't
think Solaris has an upper limit for this value but I'm less sure about
Linux. I would make sure all tta processes have been terminated and try
    again.
My feeling is that you shouldn't really be using 4096 files in a single
process -- not unless you're system is very very large. In 4.0 there is
a problem with the 1.5 JVM holding on to references that keep files open for
longer than is necessary and potentially leads to a loss of service by
keeping too many files open. 4.1 has a fix for this. I think there is a
good chance this may be your problem aswell.

    Hi Ng,
Yes, you've run out of files. But, this ulimit thing is already done by
the SGD EE start up files. What you can do is edit the tuning properties
of the server in ArrayManager. By default, this should be 4096 but you
can try increasing this here. You may also change the value of
rlim_fd_max in /etc/system on Solaris, although the value given in the
arraymanager should override the setting in /etc/system.
It's unusual to use this many files, you may be seeing a file descriptor
leak that was in 4.0 and may be causing this problem, the problem is
subtle and doesn't necessarily effect all users. I recommend you upgrade
    to 4.1 though.

I think the "Too many open files" may give you a clue.
Try by editing the SGD EE startup files (either under /etc/init.d or in
the /opt/tarantella/bin/scripts folder) and adding the
         ulimit -n 4096
statement. Of course, 4096 is just an example; find your "maximum number
of open file descriptors" limit and raise it accordingly.

  • JSP bug? url.openStream() = server redirected too many times

I tried something the other day that works in Java, so it should work as a JSP scriptlet, but I received an error message that others have posted elsewhere without a compete resolution. Specifically, given a URL, say u, one ought to be able to do u.openStream() and eventually read the remote page. Typically, one might want to try
    URL u = new URL("http://someserver.com/path/file.xxx")
BufferedReader bfr = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(u.openStream()))and then read bfr line-by-line. The problem that seems to be fairly common is that the openStream() call throws a ProtocolException claiming "server redirected too many times (20), ."
What I've seen is that this exception occurs whenever the URL is outside the Tomcat server whence the call is being made; in our case, we're running "out-of-the-box" Jakarta Tomcat 4.1.29 on port 8080 of a w2k server. The code works perfectly in native Java and in JSP for a URL of the form "/anotherpage.jsp"
Is this a bug in JSP, or in our version of Tomcat, or is there just some configuration parameter that needs to be changed from its default? As I said, I've seen similar posts (with less detailed analysis) in the Usenet newsgroups, but not one has generated a response that explains and resolves the matter.
Perhaps a JSP guru out there could set the record straight? Thanks.
P.S. I know that the use of scriptlets in JSP is being discouraged, but they are still supported AFAIK.

Sure scriptlets are still supported. Most times though you can do things better with a custom tag. Why reinvent the wheel?
Just as a suggestion, you might try the JSTL <c:import> tag.
It basically does just this behind the scenes.
However I don't think that will help you in the end - it will probably hit the same error message.
My guess would be that the problem is not caused by java/JSP as such, but by a firewall, or configuration somewhere.
The following works fine for me (ignoring broken images of course)
    <%@ page import="java.net.*, java.io.*" %>
    <%
    URL u = new URL("http://www.google.com");
    BufferedReader bfr = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(u.openStream()));
    String line = null;
    while ((line = bfr.readLine()) != null){
      out.println(line);
    %>Hope this helps,

I have coded a workflow/wizard 4-step process, and on some pages I have 4 submit buttons that all call different actions on the page. The users thought it would be useful to have the enter key submit the form, so I followed some online resources to trap a keypress using javascript, looking for the enter keycode and calling document.getElementById("elementName").click(). This works fine most of the time. Sometimes, though, it seems as if an entire new session is being created, and odd behavior starts happening. For example, my page will only include 2 of the 4 facelets on the screen -or- I will get NullPointerExceptions for objects that I know have been created in the session bean I am currently using -or- I will get a duplicate form Id after trying to re-submit the page. Could the javascript click simulation not be submitting all of the form elements or is the enter key also acting like its default action (the form submission) in addition to the "click"? I'm really at my wit's end here (plus it's nearly 3 AM, that never helps things). All of the buttons being clicked are standard h:commandButtons. There is some setTimeout logic included to disable the buttons on the page to prevent double clicks (I cannot disable them onsubmit because disabled buttons don't pass the right values, perhaps that's causing it, but if so, clicking the buttons with the mouse would cause that issue too, right?)
I am not posting the code (yet), but if anyone wants to take a look see and see if I am doing something really abhorrently wrong, I'm more than willing to, I'm just curious if anyone has had problems regarding javascript submission of forms via the click() method. Clicking the button does not exhibit this type of behavior. Just as a side note: I am doing different things with the enter key depending if a modal window is open (the enter key closes the modal if it's up, and if not, it submits the form via a button click).
Any help is much appreciated, if anyone has any inkling about where I should start looking for answers it would be really helpful.
    Thank you.

You need to suppress the event handling after programmatically clicking the button.

  • How to fix "server problem" error message when trying to use PhoneGap build service.

I have a site that is now optimized for mobile devices and want to use the PhoneGap Build service in Dreamweaver CS6 to make a native app.  Unfortunately, I keep getting the "We seem to be having server problems." error message when I try to create a new project.  I did notice that the configuration file was created at the site root.  I've seen a few other similar threads on this, but no solution.  I've checked on any firewall issues (none) and know that the PhoneGap server is not down.  The problem is on my end.
    Thanks,
    Loren

Not an answer to the server problem, but I have posted the PhoneGap Build process here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4669054#4669054. It might help anyone still having problems.

  • Server problem with my imac - maybe due to Time Machine

I am new to macs but have jumped in the deep end and not so long ago bought an Air (love it) and even more recently bought a 2011 iMac (love it too).
Having set up my Air with apps etc I used Time Machine to install everything onto my iMac - it all worked remarkably smoothly.
I do have one problem though.
When I try to watch anything on Sky Player I get a c:1501 error.
I appreciate that you may have no idea about Sky Player - it's a UK online Tv service.
I have been on the Sky forums trying to resolve this but no joy.
I have tried removing and reinstalling Silverlight but to no avail.
I asked Sky to give me some kind of technical explanation that mac experts might understand - here it is:
"The C:1501 error usually indicates a problem connecting to the Sky Player servers, this is commonly found when proxy servers are used in your connection or a firewall has been set up to filter certain traffic.
There are a few instances we see where neither of these issues cause the problem however the most common as stated above is to do with network connectivity to the Sky Player Servers."
I suspect that Sky sees my iMac as a dupe of my Air and it doesn't like that.
Does this mean anything to you and if so can you help me?
    Regards

    Hello,
first time posting on any forum, whoopee for me  ...
my solution was DRM ...  got c:1501 when logged on as standard user, changed to super/administrator user and sky go/player worked.

  • Email server problem - failed to connect to server

Since Friday 27th August I've been having trouble connecting to the email server for my BT Yahoo account. It simply can't find the server, even though none of the account settings have changed and it has worked fine for years. Weirdly, sometimes it works and emails come through (so the settings are obviously fine) but then it will stop working for no apparent reason. I use Thunderbird as my email client, but I tested the account in Outlook Express and it gives the same error. The account works fine over webmail, and through my iPhone, however.
It seems like this is a DNS error rather than software related - is there anything BT-related that could be causing this, or any simple fixes? I've tried rebooting the HomeHub but that doesn't seem to have made a difference. I work from home, so this is a really annoying problem.

Interesting - we have exactly the same problem. Haven't been able to download for days. This has happened with two different computers with different anti-virus systems - so one assumes it's not suddenly that. I can access my e-mail online and reply (having to bcc myself, so when it does eventually work I have copies on my outlook express. It was working perfectly one night and the next morning just stopped - nothing happened in between.
I have tried to find out what the error number means, but no-one - not even BT's Help section - seem to have the solution. Have you ever seen the Eddie Izzard sketch on YouTube? This is definately one of those moments!
If you find a solution - would really appreciate you posting it on here, so I can fix mine. Will do the same for youi.
    Hi.
This sort of problem is hard to determine. It could be a few things, including a corruption of the mail account (which can last for a short time or a number of days), it could be a local problem - which you've ruled out by the different computer check, or perhaps a "stuck" email - say one which is spam/virus attached and the online checking systems failing to pass through it, or possibly a stale IP address.
The latter 2 are easy to check, the first via webmail and see if there is anything near the "top" of the list that may cause a problem, moving to a new folder, and try again. The last can be tried by power cycling the router to get a new IP address. Disconnect the broadband and router for say 15 minutes and then reconnect to try again.
If there was a major server problem, there would be lots more complaints.

Can anyone help as to what is going on here? This only seems to be affecting a single user, and it is intermittent as some recipients received the email, whilst others have not.
