Power BI Designer Maps

Is it just me or is there a serious bug with the map graphs in PBID?
It could be that we are sitting behind a proxy, although the map loads from Bing, showing country outlines and names, then suddenly it gives an error and hangs

HI Alex,
I Cannot Attach the csv source file, but I've pasted the M code a screendump and some lines from the csv file:
(note that the map actually loads and starts to plonk down circles per country code, and then it bombs)
Code:
let
    Source = Csv.Document(File.Contents("C:\DL\dotLogic\DemoData\GDP.csv"),null,",",null,1252),
    #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(Source,{{"Column1", type text}, {"Column2", type text}, {"Column3", type text}, {"Column4", type text}, {"Column5", type text}, {"Column6",
type text}, {"Column7", type text}, {"Column8", type text}, {"Column9", type text}, {"Column10", type text}}),
    #"Removed Columns" = Table.RemoveColumns(#"Changed Type",{"Column3", "Column6", "Column7", "Column8", "Column9", "Column10"}),
    #"Removed Top Rows" = Table.Skip(#"Removed Columns",3),
    #"Filtered Rows" = Table.SelectRows(#"Removed Top Rows", each ([Column2] <> "" and [Column2] <> ".. Not available.  " and [Column2] <> "Note: Rankings include only those
economies with confirmed GDP estimates. Figures in italics are for 2011 or 2010." and [Column2] <> "a. Includes Former Spanish Sahara.  b. Excludes South Sudan  c. Covers mainland Tanzania only. d. Data are for the area " and
[Column2] <> "controlled by the government of the Republic of Cyprus.   e. Excludes Abkhazia and South Ossetia.  f. Excludes Transnistria.")),
    #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Filtered Rows"),
    #"Renamed Columns" = Table.RenameColumns(#"First Row as Header",{{"", "CountryCode"}, {"US dollars)", "USD"}})
in
    #"Renamed Columns"

  • Unable to load a query of type Text [Power BI designer]

I have spent all day building a PQ query in Power BI Designer that successfully returns data. it takes a while to do it, but it does return data.
When I switch to the report tab to try and build some reports I see this:
Then after waiting for a few minutes I see this:
Can anyone suggest either (a) what the problem might be or (b) where I can go to get more information so i can investigate the error.
    thanks
    Jamie
P.S. Yes this error occurred in Power BI Designer and yes this forum is a Power
Query forum, but there is no Power BI Designer forum so I didn't know where best to put this question, hence I put it here.

Currently there isn't a way to load scalar values (text, number etc.) in the Power BI Designer. We will be addressing this in a future release, but for now you can disable loading of the scalar query (Properties -> Enable load to report).
If you actually would like to use the scalar value within the report, you'll have to wrap it in a table as a workaround for now.
Please let us know if that doesn't unblock you.
Aha, excellent, thanks SidJay. just trying it now, but I'm assuming this is going to work (as I say, the query takes a long time, I'm waiting for it as I write).
I actually don't want those scalars available for the report anyway so being able to hide them is very useful indeed.

  • How to use Power BI designer preview to access a postgresql database

We have a postgresql 9.1 database which we want to connect to Power BI Designer Preview. I’ve setup the machine according to the instructions given in support.office.com
I am getting a error displaying:
DataSource.Error: PostgreSQL: Failed to establish a connection to <IP>.

    Hi,
Did you provide your username/password through the Power Query credential dialog?
What authentication method is the database configured for?

    Hi Abhirich,
Have you been able to successfully authenticate the user after considering the questions presented by Tristan?

  • Define hierarchies in Power BI Designer on RDBMS without PowerPivot

    Hi,
Is there a way to define hierarchies that can be used in the reports (drill down) in the Power BI Designer straight on an RDBMS source (similar to hierarchy definition in PowerPivot)?
    Thanks!
    Martin

My Current workaround for pulling data from SSRS until the dev team have worked out the odata issue is to pull the report in as a csv file:
    Csv.Document(Web.Contents("http://Servername/ReportServer?/SummaryReport&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=Csv")),
I also tried pulling an excel file from SSRS with no success.
    Tried:
    Excel.Workbook(URL)
    Excel.Workbook(Web.Contents(URL))
    Excel.Workbook(File.Contents(URL))
    Excel.Workbook(File.Contents(Web.Contents(URL)))
if anyone has had luck pulling in an excel file from SSRS i would like to know how.
Is there a rough release date for the odata functionality?

A core part of the new Preview features for Power BI is the Power BI Designer. This lets you create a collection of queries, data connections, and reports that can easily be shared with others. The Power BI Designer integrates proven Microsoft technologies
    – the powerful Query engine, data modeling, and visualizations – and works seamlessly with the online
    Power BI Service.
    For more information you can
read our Getting Started tutorial or

I went to ni.com/manuals and looked for the Getting Started with LabVIEW DSC and found a more recent version that has the correct links. Unfortunately when searching via Google, the older version pops up first.

  • Power switch design needs a rethink

Making the main power switch a key on the keyboard was really a terrible idea.  I hit it by accident at least a few times daily.  Is there any workaround for this? For example is there a way to reassign the on/off function to <fn> on/off so you have to hold down two keys at once?  I really really wish apple would go back to the recessed metal button I had on my previous macbook pro.  I never had this problem before.  Progress, I guess?  I suppose it's one of many chanes that led to the ultrathin design.

  • [solved] [VIM] question to vim power users about mapping

    Hi,
I have just starting using map leaders in vim and I'm love it.
Here are my shortcuts but this method allow to open /etc/rc.conf only in readonly mode.
So how can I open this file to edit like su (when I open vim without sudo)? I have configured sudo to works without password.
    " Fast editing
    map <leader>v :e! ~/.vimrc<cr>
    map <leader>b :e! ~/.bashrc<cr>
    map <leader>r :e! /etc/rc.conf<cr>

    I use
    map ss :w !sudo tee % > /dev/null<CR>
when I open a file that needs 'sudo' for editing.
For some files I have aliases:
    [karol@black ~]$ type rc
rc is aliased to `sudo vim /etc/rc.conf'

    Akunuvar,
Is there anything specific that you are interested in?  If you are interested in general applications and where people use our hardware you can search http://www.ni.com/case-studies/

  • How can I install Power PC designed application in Intel Mac Machine?

I tried to install an application which was written for the old Power PC Mac Machine in my new Intel Mac Machine.  The system released a message that Power PC application is no longer supported.  How can I install the old Power PC program?  Thanks for your help.

    You can't.

  • Designing a board using Artix-7 FPGA where power rail (1.0V = VCCINT, VCCBRAM, MGTAVCC) ramp rate is less than 200usec (min spec)

I have a board design that uses Artix-7 FPGA (without using the GPT interface) where VCCINT, VCCBRAM, and MGTAVCC rails are tied together to one VRM source of 1.0V.  The power sequence is correct (VCCINT>VCCBRAM>VCCAUX>VCCO), but the ramp rate of the 1.0V rails is less than the spec.
Currently the 1.0V ramp rate of this design is a high power VRM design that demostrates a ramp rate (100usec) < than the min spec (200usec).
Since I am new using this device; what is the risk involved on violating this spec if any?  I need to know ASAP as this might drive a board spin.
    Thanks for your support,
    -cb

    Hi,
The specifications for the device ramp rate are developed based on limitations of our test equipment, not limitations of our parts.  The 0.2 ms ramp rate specification is specified because the tester we have does not allow for faster ramp rates.
However, this is still a violation of our specifications so we cannot guarantee there will not be any reliability issues with the device (since we have not tested this condition).
The silicon itself does not have any problems with faster ramp rates.
Issues exist when ramp rates are non-monotonic or have excessive ringing, but this will be a limitation with any vendor's silicon and will need to be accounted for in any system.

  • Google maps uses to much computer power

    Hi,
First I want to say that dont understand much about computers.
So my problem is everytime I open the new google maps (using the latest chrome) in couple of minutes my computer becomes really how and I start hearing the fans going. I am using iStatsPro to look at some parameters and GPU goes up to 90 degrees celcius.
I want to ask if this is normal?
I study civil engineering and my hoppy is photography so I use photoshop, autocad, sketchup and at the same time have mails, itunes, skype and evernote open for exapme and I dont really the fans when I am using this programs and in my opinion they require much more power than google maps. (gave you this info just so that you know what I usually run)
I play games from time to time like Guild Wars 2 and then I can hear the fans but this is normal
My computer is the latest MacBook Pro 15" (the more powerful one).
Sorry for my language and hope that I have given you guys enough informations.

Chrome appears to be about the worst choice for Browsers in your situation. It has know problems including memory leaks.
I suggest you switch to Firefox or Safari, and you will have much less trouble.
