Power off notification popping up on my iPhone 5 without anything touching it

the power off notification will sometimes pop up on my iPhone 5 without anything touching it

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device and restoring it again would be the next step:

    Hi ahmedsgh,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your iPhone. If it isn't responding or starting up past the Apple logo screen, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful, in particular this portion:
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • Odd iPhone 4S Power off Screen

Hello, I got a new iPhone for my mom and was setting it up for her.  At one point, I got an odd screen on the 32 GB white phone.  I was downloading some of the apps that she wanted (QVC, facebook, etc).  At one point, the screen showed a different "power off screen"?  The screen was black with the letters "power off" at the top of the screen, it said "touch here" or something like that.  I touched the home button and it went away.  It hasn't come back at all.  This was a brand new phone and this weird screen came up.  It hasn't again and now I'm starting to wonder if I was seeing something???  Anyhow, did anyone else ever experience this?  The phone works fine.....just wondering.....thanks
    JJS

I bought the phone directly from Apple via the apple store  So I'm assuming it's not fake and/or jailbroken ( I don't even know how or care to do so). Could they have resold it as new and it was at some point?  That would be disappointing or is that something apple does?

  • How can I reboot my Ipad when I do not have access to the power off screen?

My device slide off my couch while in its cover. IT was working afterwards, for about 5 min. I sat it down while I took something out of the oven and was back maybe 5min. or so later. When i try to access it, all I see is a black screen. I cannot unlock it or even power off. How can I reboot it without the power off swipe ?

Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reboot/Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
Restore: Connect your iPhone to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory

This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable.  Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

  • Hi, my iphone 4 home screen keeps flashing on and off repeatedly. if I'm using my phone or in an app it will just go black then light up to the home screen and it does this over and over. Then the power off option will pop up. what should i do

Hi my iphone 4 home screen keeps flashing on and off repeatdly. I will beonmy phone or in an app and it will go to a black screen and then light up to the home screen. Then the power off option will pop up. I have tried letting it die and recharging it and powering it off neither worked. Does any one have an idea on what this could be or what I can do?

If the Slide to Power Off option is coming up, that suggests your power button isn't working correctly and is sticking.
Best thing to do is bring the phone to an Apple store (make an appointment first) and have a Genius take a look at it.

  • My iPhone 4s will randomly pop the power off menu on

So just out of the blue my I phone 4s is trying to turn it self off and my power off button does not work. Please help

I'm having a similar problem with my iPhone 4s.  Just loaded all of my play lists onto it and it shuffles the order on some playlists but not others.  It is not a matter of shuffle being selected anywhere.  In fact when I connect my iPhone to my Mac and look my play lists in iTunes, they appear in the correct order.  When I view my playlists on my iPhone, some appear in a random order.  The suggestions to turn shuffle off have not helped since nowhere does shuffle appear to be on.  And I have the "shake to shuffle" turned off as well.  I listen to a lot of continuously mixed music so these randomizations of my playlists are very problematic.  I didn't have this problem at all with my iPod Touch. Should I just try deleting the troublesome playlists and reinstalling them?

  • Iphone 5 alarm and power off buttons

I have an Iphone 5 and have two questions:
I have my alarm set for a certain time on weekdays and it just does not go off.  The only time it goes off is when I switch the phone on or lift the flap (cover for my phone).  The airplane mode is off.  Can this be rectified and if yes, how?
When I want to switch the cell phone off via the silver button on the top right hand side, it sometimes says "slide to power off" and other times, just goes off.  What is the difference between the two and could this be affecting my alarm as well?  On the odd occasion, when I switch the cell phone off (without the "slide to power off" option) it just goes off and then I still receive sms or e-mail notifications sounds during the night.
Your assistance in this regard will be most appreciated!

1:  The alarm will only work when the phone is on.
    2: Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Unable to Connect to WiFi after iPhone power off; WiFi & internet are working with MBP; common problem, no solutions?

Here's my setup: Internet <> Comcast/xFinity supplied cable modem <> new Apple Time Capsule <> iPhone 4 & MacBook Pro (see below for hardware details)
Internet on my iPhone 4 has been acting slow since yesterday evening. My MacBook Pro was running fine, but just to be sure I checked the Comcast website to see that I have only used 50GB of my allotted 250 GB of data for the month, so it's not that.
I decided it must be a problem with just my iPhone, so I opened up the multitasking bar and quit everything in there manually, and then I held the on/off button, and slid the slider to power off. When I started back up, I could not connect to the same WiFi I had just been using. I tried to reconnect and nothing. I tried to forget the network and try again, nothing. I tried to reset all network settings, nothing.
I have tried all the steps listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398 "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections"
Toggled WiFi off and back on
Made sure I am in range of the router (it's about 8 feet away and my iPhone reports full signal from the network)
Made sure all the hardware is connected and on
Checked other devices (I'm successfully connected with my MacBook Pro right now)
Checked for router firmware upgrades (I have a new Time Capsule from Apple with the current 7.5.2 firmware which I've been using for a month)
    Restarted my device (again)
Checked that the network is available (it does show on my iPhone)
    Restarted my Time Capsule
Checked my router configuration as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727 "Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network" which involves simply checking to see that WMM is turned on, also stating that WMM cannot be enabled or disabled for Apple's AirPort products.
    Reset my network settings (again)
I have searched and searched for fixes to this problem, and I have additionally tried:
    Enabling/disabling Airplane Mode
Disabling any network password protection/encryption (no luck), re-enabling it (no luck)
    Changing the network password
Checking for hardware addresses present in iOS Settings > General > About (they are present and not zero'ed out)
Switching Bluetooth off (nothing) and back on (nothing)
....and probably a few other things I can't think of right now
    I have yet to try:
The "Freezer Trick" which apparently involves chilling the iPhone to get a temporary fix?
Restoring the iPhone (I would really rather not)
A different WiFi network (other than my own Time Capsule home network or guest network, both of which give the same Unable to Connect error)
So, after all of that, are there any more ideas? Is there a reliable solution to this issue? So far I've just seen a lot of "mess with the settings," "the freezer trick worked," and "blame it on the iOS 4 update."
    Here are my hardware details:
    iPhone 4; iOS 5; 32GB; AT&T; no cellular data plan (July 2011)
    TimeCapsule6,113; Firmware 7.5.2; 2TB (September 2011)
    MacBook Pro 3,1; Mac OS X (10.7.2); 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; Hi-Res Display; 4GB RAM; 500GB HD (August 2007)
    ...and the Time Capsule config:
    http://cl.ly/BCUt

Ugh. Apparently "messing with it" is still the answer. I decided to try the LinkSys router I was using before I bought the Time Capsule, and my iPhone connected with no problem.
I went through the steps again, and after rebooting my Time Capsule this time, I can connect again. The troubling thing it that this started with a power-off of my iPhone. No changes or installations, just a reset. Am I going to have to reboot my Time Capsule (which has no power switch, just a cord I have to unplug) every time I reboot my iPhone?

  • Mac OSX 10.6.8 Garage Band '11. This error happens occasionally : I am forced to power-off-on.  Pop-up states that error info will be sent to apple. I never hear back from apple. Second prob: Fan sometimes comes on, runs high speed, then slowly stops.

Garage Band '11: pop-up error forces me to power off-on. Message states that info will be sent to Apple.
I never hear back from anyone about this.
Second prob: Fan sometimes comes on, runs high speed, then slowly runs down and stops running.

First thing to do is a SMC Reset, you can find instructions at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!!!
Then try Repairing Disk Permissions, do this at least 2x. You will find this in Disk Utility which is located in Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility.
Finally you may need to uninstall Garage Band and reinstall. You may have to use Pacifist to do this, you can find it at:

  • Update 7.1.2 caused permanent iphone 4 power off

I have updated to ios 7.1.2 my iphone 4. Now after it locked the keyboard, sometimes it power off. Only cable connection helps to boot up. Hard reset does not help. Your suggestions?

    Hello there, arturfrommoscowcity.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, in-depth steps for troubleshooting issues with not being able to power on your iOS device:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Particularly:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Why does iPhone randomly power off?

My iPhone powers off at, seemingly, random times. It should not power off at all unless I power it off. Any explanations as to why?

Without more specific information it's hard to assist you.
First thing is it may be hardware failure which means you will have to take it to Apple store and see a genius expert. You will need an appointment first though.
There a several things to try first though as I have seen, and also experienced iPhones where the operating system appeared to lock up at what appeared to be random times which would eventually cause the phone to eventually reboot.
Usually though, if you pay enough attention as to what might be causing it, I was able to determine that it was a troublesome website or an application that caused iPhone OS to lock up.
You can usually try several things to fix this.
First try to work out what might be causing the problem by seeing if you can replicate what you were coin immediately before it happened. If it's an app that's causing the problem then remove it. If you can't work out what's triggering it then try a soft reset by pressing the home and power/sleep buttons til the phone reboot (you'll see the Apple logo reappear after the phone shuts down).
If this doesn't work then try doing a restore on the phone and first set it up as a new phone, then test the phone and see whether this has fixed it.
If this does fix it then you can try doing a restore again and instead of setting it up as a new phone use the option to restore from a backup. If the problem returns after you do this, then your software backup is somehow corrupted and you'll need to restore as a new phone and start resetting it up with all your old settings.
Anyways I hope this helps you in some way
