Powerlogix CPU Director..Is it required??

I just recieved and installed my OWC Powerlogix Dual 1.5G cpu upgrade card this evening.
Install was very smooth and the system seems to be running just fine.
Currently encoding a dvd to psp format t osee how much time I shaved off by the upgrade.
My question is though, is the CPU Director software a requirement?
It seems from the readme that comes with it, CPU Director will not do anything for my dual 1.5G.
It allows to you be able to change the speed of your cache.
It offers DFS. However, it mentions it will not work for cpu was a multiplier that is not an integer. The 1.5 falls into this category.
I also think it will provide some temp monitoring.
So to me nothing important.
Anybody else using CPU director for their Powerlogix uprgade? Is there something I am missing here?

Hi Grinch-
CPU Director does as you state, as well as offer temperature monitoring.
It is not a requirement to use, and not using it will not cause any adverse performance in the processor upgrade.

  • 1.0/1.1 GHz G3 Powerlogix CPU Upgrades in Beige G3

There have been very few postings of upgrades to the Powerlogix 1.0 and 1.1 GHz G3 CPU upgrades over at xlr8yourmac. Any of the upgraders here have any experience w/ this CPU upgrade in a Beige G3? Comments positive or negative? Problems?
I'm currently running a 466 MHz CPU in a Beige MT and am looking for a little more quickness. I've already maxed out the RAM and am running a ATA-133 Maxtor HDD on a ATA-133 SIIG PCI card.

Thanks for your comments. There are very few xlr8yourmac postings for the newer Powerlogix G3 upgrades in a Beige G3, but several for the B&W G3s. Likewise, xlr8yourmac's own CPU upgrade comparison using the new Powerlogix G3 upgrade was done w/ a B&W. The problem is that the B&W's were so different from the Beige, so quirky, and in fact so different from the front to the back of their production cycle that I wouldn't rely on their results as typical for the G3 upgrades. That said, most of the B&W upgrades w/ the Powerlogix 1/1.1 GHz IBM chip were favorable.
I ruled out the G4 upgrades for my Beige based on the long string of horror stories of those early adopters of G4 upgrades for their Beige G3s. They may have solved those problems, but I decided some time back, based on various web discussion threads, that G4s and the Beige just don't live and play well together.
It is true that the 66 MHz buss is starting to be a noticeable choke point. But, for the most part, speeding up what you can speed up, compensates for that problem. No, it can't make it into a new machine, but a used Mac at 933 MHz on ebay is going for almost $1K, and I can approach that performance for a lot less additional investment.

  • "Director player 5" required ?

    Hello all,
My daughter got a CD-ROM in Witch magazine and "Director
player 5" is required. The player is not included on the CD-Rom.
I've looked everywhere for a place to download a copy for Mac
    running under OS 9.2.
Anybody know where I can find a copy of Director player 5 for
the Mac/OS 9.2 or a way to play the Macromind based CD-ROM?
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
As James (openspark) mentioned above, it sounds like a very
    old version of
Director was used. Director 5 is about 10 or so years old.
    I've recently been
helping people update Director content from old versions to
    the latest one. If
you'd like to give me more info on what's on that CD of
yours, I may be able to
    help.
Otherwise, I do have a trial version of Director 6 (PC and
    Mac) available. I could
give you access the the installation files and you can create
    your own 'player'
    for the CD files.
You can email me directly at [email protected]

  • Is There a minimum cpu speed an Ram requirement for Nano

I use xp pro and want to know if Nano has a cpu/ram requirement.
    thanks, Ken

I don't think that the nano itself, or any other iPod for that matter, has a requirement from the computer that has iTunes other than the type of cable used to connect the iPod to your computer (USB, Firewire), and perhaps what version of the OS you have.
The only requirements CPU/RAM requirements you should adhere to are the ones that are required of iTunes. The requirements for Windows are as follows:
Windows XP or 2000 (latest service packs recommended)
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
    QuickTime 7.0.4 (included)
    256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
    Additional Video Requirements
1.5 GHz Pentium class processor or better
    32MB video RAM
The Requirements for the iPod Nano are as follows:
PC with USB port or card (USB 2.0 recommended)
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
Also - it might be more helpful, for yourself and for other users, if you were to post this inquiry in the Windows section of iTunes.

  • Java 1.4.2 version CPU spike to 100%, require tools to monitor CPU spike

    Hi,
When using our application CPU is spiked to 100% (Suspecting memory leak here). The Java version used is Java 1.4.2_04. This CPU spike is seen only when more users are logged in (may be around 25 users and more).
Any tools to monitor the CPU spike (other than perfmon) ? How to nail down the memory leak issue or CPU spike in code perspective.
Please suggest some tools to do monitoring as well..
    Thanks in Advance.

It's quite heard to create a memory leak with Java (except from creating objects in a loop or something like that). Perhaps it's only the garbage collector? If you have a memory leak you don't only get a CPU spike, but the VM will exit if the heap space is full.
I used JProfiler before and it's really good.

  • Yikes G4 400mhz cpu in a Beige G3 AIO L2 cache problems

Ok here is a wered one
i bought a Yikes G4 mobo and G4 400mhz cpu for $40. It shows up today i take out my orignal G3 266mhz cpu and i install the G4 and set all the jumpers to where is is at 400mhz 66mhz bus.
i held the cuda button for 20-30 seconds and powered up. the system seemed a bit slugish booting in to OS X so i waited and it finished booting i look in ASP it shows it as a G4 400mhz but no L2 cache i was like what gives. so i tryed booting into OS 9.2.2 it to was sluggish it got to the desk top where it froze so i did the 3 finger salute and tryed again. it froze on the desktop again in the same spot so i couldent get OS 9.2.2 booted.
i downloaded cpu dorector from powerlogics site or where ever it was and ran it it was showing the L2 cache but i didnt want to mess with any thing so i let it be it showed it as disabled in the cpu director prefrence pain . i dont know why the system dont see the L2 cache on the G4 cpu when it see's it on the G3.
i read that open firmware is the one that handles the L2 cache on startup to allow the system to see it and this is supost to automatcly hapen on boot when you reset the cuda
i dunno what to do i was hoping this cpu would work in this Beige G3 since its not one of the upgrade cpu's it is a cpu out of the yikes G4
is there any way to get the system to see the L2 cache like is does with the G3
i hope i didnt lose any one
    Thanks
    Frank

im talking about booting in OS 9.2.2. looks like im stuck with the G3 266mhz cpu cause i put it back in not installing anything and it forze as soon as it went to the desktop i tryed cpu director but as soon as the ATI accelorator extention loads it lock's up when i made the CPU director extention load first.
if it loads in normal order it freezes on the cpu director extention. and sonnet wondt load cause its not there cpu. so im lost on this one. this Beige G3 AIO is stuck on stock cpu. well looks like the cpu will have to stay in the Yikes G4 mobo and i just build it up.
i dont know why the L2 cache is disabled for shouldent it work like any other cpu i mean cause almost all cpu's have L2 built on the chip why do i have to use software just to see it.
the only way it will boot into OS 9.2.2 is if i disable the ATI accelarator extention with or with out the cpu director

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Hardware Requirements

    Hi,
I am trying to work out what specification machines to use for a deployment of SCOM 2012 R2. I have searched on this forum, online generally and used the sizing guide but its all a bit vague. The sizing guide spat out the result below but as you can see
it makes no mention of CPU speeds or server HDD space apart from the DW server which says 300GB. The sizing wizard also spat out 14.43GB for the Ops DB and 427.45GB for the DW DB based on managing 600 servers, no network devices or applications.
    Minimum Hardware Recommendation:
Role: (Total: 2) (1) management server managing up to 1000 agents, plus (1) management server for HA, managing up to 10 SDK users total
    Hardware:
    • 4 disk RAID 10
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 4 Cores
    Role: Operations Database Server
    Hardware:
    • 6 disk RAID 10 (Data)
    • 2 disk RAID 1 (Log)
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 4 Cores
    Role: Operations Data Warehouse Server
    Hardware:
    • 12 disk RAID 10 (Data) (300 GB)
    • 2 disk RAID 1 (Log)
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 4 Cores
Role: Web Console Server & SQL Server Reporting Services Server
    Hardware:
    • 2 disk RAID 1
    • 8 GB RAM
    • 4 Cores
I have also seen in the documentation that the management servers only require 1024MB of free space on the System Drive, that seems a bit overkill to have that spread across 4 disks at RAID 10. With regards to the DW disk requirements does it really need
300GB on 12 disk RAID 10 plus the 427.45GB for the Data Warehouse?
If someone could possibly clear this up I would be extremely grateful.
    S

Your 4 cores CPU have met the requirement. SCOM does not use CPU resource much.

  • HT4411 iLife '11 System requirements?

"Not readable by this computer" would tend to indicate the iLife '11 install DVD cannot be read on a Core2Duo iMac running OS 10.6.8.
Apple's support document <iLife: System requirements> ends with iLife '09, system requirements for '11 are nowhere to be found on Apple's iLife site/pages.
The iLife '11 box says: "Intel processor, 1GB RAM, 5GB disk space, DVD drive, 10.6.3 or later" then refers to the document above for more info.
A search of Apple's app store for "iLife" or "iLife '11" turns up no iLife and no iLife DVD, only individual iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand:
iPhoto '11 requires 10.7.5 or later, no CPU specs.
iMovie '11 requires 10.7.4, no CPU specs.
Garage Band requires 10.6.8 or later (suggesting it's been abandoned), no CPU specs.
No iWeb, no iDVD..... and cannot download any of it from the app store anyway.
So why can't a machine with "Intel processor, 1GB RAM, 5GB disk space, DVD drive, 10.6.3 or later" even READ the install DVD in the box?
We went looking for iPhoto for OS 10.6.8 - like it says on the iLife DVD box - but apparently iPhoto version 8.1.2 is what we need. Was it part of iLife '09?

Thank you, Terence. Quite right, lots of changes, versions, Systems. Confusing as all get out! And the only thing worse than no information is wrong information. Would be nice to see that iLife requirements doc HT3876 get updated. Didn't stick around long enough to know which version of iPhoto I had, but it was wanting to update immediately.
Larry called it, was a bad DVD. My (family pack iLife '11) DVD installed perfectly on that Core2Duo/10.6.8. iMac. Defective DVD will have to go back to Amazon or wherever it came from. Too bad Apple refuses to sell anything that's more than a week old, gives rise to situations just like this one.
    Thank you gentlemen!
Noooo! I did NOT just click my own 'solved' button, did I? I clicked Larry's! Dang! Undo! Undo!
Larry, I'm sorry, I can't fix it. You were RIGHT. I'm going back to a pad and pencil now....

  • Exchange Server IIS Virtual Directories

    Thanks in Advance.

    Regards Rishi Aggarwal

my client made a decision about removing external OWA but ActiveSync. so looking what are the Exact directories are required for ActiveSync so except that i can remove every directory.
    Hi,
    OWA works only internally,
ActiveSync works both internally and externally, right?
I would suggest to create a new website with a unique IP in IIS and only adding ActiveSync to that website using a cmdlet. That would give us a website hosted on the box that served the ActiveSync devices but nothing else, leaving the OWA open for internal
access. The firewall would point to this website/IP on the CAS. We could also create a virtual directory under there for /OWA and /Exchange which would serve up the generic “this service is no longer available, please contact the help desk” message as the
default webpage. This makes it easy to manage, monitor, and control traffic to.
Command to create a new Active Virtual directory:
    New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName "domain.com"

  • Group Video - System requirements - Intel HD4000 V...

Has anyone used the intel HD4000 integrated video for group video.
    7-Way requirements:
    CPU
    Minimum: Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz
    Recommended: Intel i7
    Graphics card
    Minimum: 128 MB
    Recommended: 256 MB
    Memory
    Minimum: 1 GB
    Recommended: 2 GB
The above is the listed requirements for up to 7-way group video.
A graphics card's perfermance varies GREATLY reguardless of how much memory it has.
"i7" performance varies GREATLY across the product line.
(The could have specified Gen1/Gen2/Gen3 i7-series. That would give a slighty more specific range)
Long story short Im looking at getting the following to hook up to a TV in a small confrence room.
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/desktops/dc3217by-product-brief.html
On Skype's site the requirements are somewhat vauge.
The recomended CPU for 7-way is just Intel i7.
    The i3-3217U out-performs the i7-610.
(so will it be enough? or do they mean a higher end i7?)
I can allocate 256MB of memory to the Intel HD4000 Intgrated video.
(will it be powerful enough though?)
Realisitcally we will only be doing 3-5 way group video now.
I want to make sure that if 7-way is required we will be able to do it.

I have to disagree with your direct assessment of the lower end  i7 and the i3.  The bells and whistles (higher DMI, the ability for better performance out of the upgraded video) of that particular i3 may allow it to perform better than the i7 as a total package.  I wouldn't be focused on the i3, i5, i7 mumbo jumbo, just the specs.   I tend to take into consideration what specs are designed to do, focus on the singular component in the evaluation towards the whole to give an over-generalized recommendation.  It would be difficult for anyone to list every possible combination of hardware.  I also don't see them dropping stand-alone dedicated video card requirements any time soon.
In any case if you notice the trend of the FAQ,  I would infer something closer to a mid-range  i7 similar to the i7-3520 in spec.  That would probably meet the low end of the recommended spectrum (you could always go higher).   As far as video, there seems to be a concern more with processing speed rather than graphics.    The i3 is probably a good budget CPU that meets the requirements of a 7-way call.  You could always get a better video card than the onboard, but I don't see why in this scenario it would substantially bottleneck things.  Even if it did, you could probably pick up an inexpensive/used quality Nvidia or ATI PCIe card that would outperform the onboard.

  • CPU spikes on CSS

Is there anyway to diagnose cpu spikes on the CSS or possibly decipher the output from the "cpu hog" debug?
    Thanks

the cpu hog tells you what processes hold the cpu in the last cycles.
You have to capture several times the command and see if the same process comes all the time.
Knowing the process is not very useful unless you know what it does. Most of the times the process name is not explicit enough.
So, I would recommend to either give us the cpu hog or open a TAC case and let a TAC engineer check the cpu.
There is also a different way to capture the cpu processes.
It requires some special commands [spyReport] and to load the symbol-table before the CPU spikes.
    Regards,
    Gilles.
