PowerShell 4.0 ISE doesn't use the system proxy settings

I can retrieve the contents of a URL using something like 'iwr
http://www.adobe.com' in the command-line PowerShell host.
This takes into account the proxy settings in Control Panel / Internet Options.
If I attempt the exact same thing in the PowerShell ISE, I get:
iwr : The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.adobe.com'
This works only if I add the -Proxy and -ProxyUseDefaultCredentials options.
How comes?
How do I fix this?

I hate to say, but I don't understand how what I see is compatible with your statement.
Let me show what I'm experiencing with more details.
Here's what I get without any proxy options from powershell.exe:
PS 4.0 ~> $r = iwr http://www.adobe.com
PS 4.0 ~> $r -eq $null
False
PS 4.0 ~> $r.GetType()
IsPublic IsSerial Name                                     BaseType
True     False    HtmlWebResponseObject                    Microsoft.PowerSh...
and here's what I get from the ISE:
PS ~> $r = iwr http://www.adobe.com
iwr : The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.adobe.com'
At line:1 char:6
+ $r = iwr http://www.adobe.com

   ebRequest], WebException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : WebCmdletWebResponseException,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.InvokeWebR
   equestCommand
PS ~> $r -eq $null
True
If the CmdLet requires the -proxy option, how do you explain the results I get without the option from powershell.exe?
Next to that, here's what netsh reports:
PS 4.0 ~> netsh winhttp show proxy
Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
    Direct access (no proxy server).
This is not what I have under "Internet Options", where "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" are both checked. But IIRC from the proxycfg.exe days this reports the "system-wide"
proxy settings, not the per-user proxy settings.

  • Firefox doesn't prompt to authenticate proxy settings

After entering my proxy settings, I am never prompted to enter my login info and thus nothing loads but Firefox's "Unable to connect" error page. I've tried restarting with addons disabled (safe mode), but still no luck.

Ah - if you've set the proxy in Windows, make sure you tell Firefox to use the system proxy. You can do that in the [[Advanced settings for accessibility, browsing, system defaults, network, updates, and encryption#w_network-tab|Network settings]].
*Open the options window: Firefox > Options
*Select the Advanced panel and then the Network tab.
    *Click the Settings button.
*Make sure "Use System Proxy settings" is selected.
If that still doesn't work, there could be a problem with your profile. The quickest way to get a fresh profile (while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies and form data) is to use [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|Firefox Reset]] .
If you don't want to commit to resetting Firefox (it will remove you add-ons and not save your open tabs), you can create a second profile to use for testing this fix with the instructions here - [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]

  • This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition table scheme.

When I Install the Lion. It is stuck.
Lion This disk doesn’t use the GUID Partition table scheme.Use disk Utility to change the partition scheme.Select the disk, choose the Partition tab, select the Volume Scheme and then click Options.
    The last step has problem.
    I can not click Options.

In order to repartition the startup drive you will have to boot from your Snow Leopard DVD, select Utilities and then Disk Utility.  YOU MUST ERASE YOUR DISK TO CHANGE THE PARTITION TABLE.  The good news is that I see you have a Time Machine backup.  Make sure that your backup is current before you erase your startup disk.
Even before doing this, save a copy of the Lion installer (it is in the Applications folder) onto an external device.  Your external hard drive is a good spot; it won't interfere with your Time Machine backup. This will prevent you from having to download the installer again.
The easiest way to proceed after making sure your Time Machine backup is current, saving a copy of the Lion installer, and repartitioning your startup disk, is to reinstall Snow Leopard on your newly partitioned disk. This will take a little longer but it is simple and is fully supported by Apple.  Once that is done and you are running Snow Leopard on your startup disk again, run the Lion installer from whereever you saved it, and then restore your files and settings from your Time Machine backup during the install process.
There is an unsupported procedure for making a bootable Lion DVD, but it is more complex and is not supported by Apple.  If you are uncomfortable with any of this and have access to an Apple Store, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and they can help you through the process.

  • Lion This disk doesn't use the GUID partition table scheme

Hi I have downloaded and began running the installation but it says "This disk doesn't use the GUID partition table scheme", any ideas?! Running latest version of OSX 10.6.8
    Thanks in advance!

ok, sorry if I offended you for wrong.
I did not knew Apple ships MBR partitioned disks or has official support for doing so. I always see Windows-PCs with that scheme ( Linux supports mbr and guid just like osx ) .
Of course I know that Disk Utility offers three options : GUID or MBR or Apple partition map for ppc devices.
Lion needs GUID, so a reformat is absolutely necessary for those that have one of the others.
    Again sorry.

  • Help Can't Install Maverick "disk doesn't use the GUID Partition-"

I have an imac and i'm using bootcamp fro windows 8.  so I have Macintosh HD and BOOTCAMP Partitions. both partition have Master Boot Record as the Partition Scheme.  When trying to install OS X Mavericks it rell me that "This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition Table scheme. ..." it tells me to use Disk Utility to select the disk ->partition -> select Volume Scheme and then Options... but option is grayed out... I can not change it and so can not install Mavericks... how do I solve the this issue without losing any data in mac and in windows? without deleting partitions if possible?
    thanks

GUID is a drive map layout. You can only change it by opening Disk Utility, highlighting the physical drive and choosing the Partition tab. Then change the partition layout to anything other than Current. The Options button below that will then be active and you can then finally change the drive map from whatever it is now to GUID.
Note that since you must repartition the drive, you WILL lose everything on all partitions. So you MUST back up everything FIRST to another drive. This can be a clone to another physical drive, internal or external. When you clone it back after repartitioning, the drive map does not change.
To check your current drive layout, open Disk Utility and click on the physical drive you want to install Mavericks on. Example:
Then look at the lower right of Disk Utility's box. If you see anything other than GUID Partition Table, as shown below, then you must repartition the drive.
The other main problem is that you have to have another drive to boot to before you can change the one that needs to be repartitioned. Clone your current drive to another physical drive, not another partition on the same drive. Once the clone is complete, boot to that drive and you'll be able to repartition the drive you need to change.

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.

  • Can Firefox be set to use the system default printer?

I would really like it of Firefox would use the system default printer set in the control panel, similar to the way office programs do. Is there no setting in about:config to do this? Or an add-on perhaps?

I really, really wish Firefox would change this, but I did find one thing.
    In about:config I set:
    print.print_printer to null
    print.save_print_settings to false
Now it seems to use the system default. And it doesn't remember any changes with in a session, or from one session to the next. It always uses the system default printer.
I realize different people have different preferences. But on my system the default printer changes automatically depending on what wireless network I'm on at the moment. I wanted Firefox to reflect that.

  • Use the system lang of AIR applications auto update.

    Hello,
I recently used the auto update framework for my AIR application, this works fine but i have a small problem.
I made some reasearches and i found AIR uses the system lang by default. When i install my package for the first time, the lang is my sytem lang but when i find a new update after running auto update of my app, the AIR updater window doesn't use my sytem lang, which is french, but uses english lang. I'd like to put this window in french.
    Thanks.

Try loading and using the add-on from this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
Many add-ons do in fact work if you force them to run. The procedure to roll-back is given in this article: [[installing previous versions of firefox]]
Unfortunately the official Firefox policy is that you downgrade to 3.6 which is supported for a while longer, and not the now unsupported Firefox 4. If after installing and running the ''add-on compatibility reporter'' you still have problems there are ways around the official policy.
I think it is absurd that Firefox 4 may be used by tens of millions of users one day and a few days later those that upgrade to Firefox 5 should be not only told not to use a now unsupported browser, if they need to revert due to problems, but are actually obstructed in attempts to do so. • I want to put windows 7 on my iMac. Do I use Windows 7, 64 bit System Builder or do I use a "retail copy" of the Windows 7, 64 bit ? Microsoft says I should use the System Builder copy. A technical support individual from Apple said use the "retail copy"

A Microsoft technical advisor said that the "retail copy" of Windows 7, 64 bit Home Premium would not work with Boot Camp to put the Windows operating system on the IMac. She said that I would have to use the System Builder copy of Windows 7 to put it on my iMac. An Apple technical advisor told me that I had to use the "retail copy" of Window 7 because that was the one used by Apple when they developed the Boot Camp program.  I have also seen some articles from Apple that suggests that both copies of Windows 7 would work OK. Does anyone have any experience that shows which one or both I should purchase to put on my computer?

    Welcome to ASC!
I used the 64-bit System Builder Edition when I bootcamped my 2010 iMac a couple of years ago. Worked perfectly--installed a very lean system. Without all the extra cr@pware that comes preinstalled on name-brand Win computers, the SBE OS actually works darned well.
However, that was under Mac OS 10.6.8 which remains on that computer for compatibilty reasons not related to Windows. Haven't BCed any newer Mac OS, so your mileage may vary.
