PowerView Dashboard Connect to Perspective

Hi All,
We are working on a BI solution using PowerView for SharePoint connect to SSAS (Tabular). We would like to filter out the data to present to users when browse data from PowerView dashboard (in SharePoint) while
remove the filtering when users browse tabular directly, e.g. using PowerView in Excel, or Pivot Table.
One solution we are considering is using perspective. But it seems that perspective does not work well. Is there any update on this?

Hi KTPL,
According to your description, you need to create a PowerView report based on a SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular model, right?
To connect to a tabular model in Power View, you must create a connection file that contains the server location and database name. You can create a Reporting Services shared data source or a BI semantic model connection file in SharePoint.
A BI semantic model connection points to tabular model data. There are two sources for this data:
A tabular model database running on a standalone Analysis Services instance in tabular server mode.
PowerPivot workbooks saved to SharePoint.

  • PowerView cannot connect to SSAS Database

This will be latest problem with Power View that I will probably get no help with but you never know...
    SharePoint 2013
    SQL Server 2012 SP1
I have reporting services and power view set up in SharePoint. I can create a data connection in SharePoint and connect to tabular models.
But when I try to connect to a Multi-Dim Cube, I get error.
    Here is my connection string
    data source=chi-SQLDB02;initial catalog=TierOneTrinity;cube='BNS XONAR'
Here is the Cube in SSMS
When I click on the Data Source so that it opens in Power View, I get a dialog box that pops up
An error occurred while loading the model for the item or data source 'http://internal.bridgenetsolutions.com/ExcelDataConnections/CHI-SQLDB02 TIER 1.rsds'. Verify that the connection information is correct and that you have permissions to access the data
    source.
    This is ULS error:
GetModel encountered Exception Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.CannotRetrieveModelException: An error occurred while loading the model for the item or data source 'http://internal.bridgenetsolutions.com/ExcelDataConnections/
CHI-SQLDB02 TIER 1.rsds'. Verify that the connection information is correct and that you have permissions to access
the data source. ---> Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdErrorResponseException: An error occurred while parsing the 'RequestType' element
at line 7, column 55 ('urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-analysis' namespace) under Envelope/Body/Discover/RequestType.  XML for Analysis parser: The 'DISCOVER_CSDL_METADATA' request type was not recognized by the server.

I figured it out. The Cube was running on a SQL Server 2008 R2 Server and I guess PowerView only works with 2012 Cubes.
thank you very much to me.

  • Excel Dashboard Connection Refresh

    Hi
we have a number of dashboards that we have created on our Project Online instance using the excel web part version of sharepoint.
To refresh the data we have to open the excel sheet and click refresh connections, is there an automated way to do this without opening the file, or creating a job which opened the files from sharepoint and ran a refresh and saved and closed it?
    Thanks
    Sean

    Hi Sean,
A way to automatically refresh odata reports is to use PwoerBI. The 3 first articles on the following blog will give you the procedure:

  • Powerview Cannot connect to the server due to a security issue. The server may not have been able to match the host for silverlight

    Hello,
I have a sharepoint 2010 sp1 CU Dec 2011 server with a SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU4 reporting services instance.  I am able to open Power View and use it normally when bypassing the ISA Reverse Proxy server.  However when going thru ISA I receive the
    following Error.
Power View  Cannot connect to the server due to a security issue.  The server may not have been able to match the host for Silverlight.  This error appears after I click yes on an Internet Explorer Display Mixed Mode prompt.
I've seen a couple references to this issue but not much.  This one mentions a clientaccesspolicy.xml file but I haven't had any luck with that.  http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/716433/cannot-connect-to-the-server-due-to-a-security-issue-the-server-may-not-have-been-able-to-match-the-host-for-silverlight
    Any Ideas?  Thanks.
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
Based on my research, the issue should occur due to a by design behavior in Threat Management Gateway (TMG). To work around this issue, you can use SSL between the TMG and the SharePoint Web Server.
    Hope this helps.

  • PowerView Reports/Dashboards with Microsoft Dynamics AX

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know the best way to integrate PowerView dashboards directly into Dynamics AX? From all the research I've gathered, it seems it can only be done by created the PowerView in SharePoint online (which requires a lot of software and set up), which
allows you to create an .rdlx file that can be displayed in a role center.
I've heard that Microsoft is moving away from using the SharePoint version of PowerView in order to support and promote the cloud version - Office 365. Are there any insights on using Power BI for 365 with Dynamics AX?

Anybody have a suggestion for Poetic?
Poetic, I don't think this is currently possible (embedding). But it's good feedback.

  • Reporting Services connecting to a PowerPivot Workbook hosted on Sharepoint Online

    Hi,
we developed a PowerPivot Workbook and published on our PowerBI site based on a Sharepoint Online E3 subscription.
We use it to display PowerView Dashboard and analyse sales results.
On-prem we also have a Reporting Services (stand alone installation) server where we have reports the connect directly to our datawarehouse based on a MS Sql Server DB instance.
What I would like to do is to develop a report in SSRS that connects to the PowerPivot Workbook published on our Sharepoint Online/Power BI site.
I tried following the instruction in this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg413489(v=sql.110).aspx but using an URL like https://mycopmany.sharepoint.com/sites/BI/Documents/Workbook.xlsx and the correct Sharepoint Online credentials to access
the PowerPivot Workbook, I always get a "File Not Found" error.
I would like to know if what I would like to do is possible and how to do it.
    Thank you,
    Roberto

    Roberto,
    Is this still an issue?

  • "Unable to load URL" - SQL Server 2005 DB Web Service Connection

    Hi ,
I am using XCelsius version 5.0.0.99 to create dashboards connecting to SQL Server 2005.
Find below the details of the steps -
    1. Created a web service within SQL Server 2005 database.
    2. Copied the WSDL URL.
    3. In XCelsius 2008 -> Data Manager -> Web Service Connection, pasted the URL in the WSDL URL input box and clicked "Import" to import the methods. At this point I am getting "Unable to load URL" .
Am I missing any step ?
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.
Note : I have tested the web service by using it in a ASP.Net project and works fine.
    Thanks
    Chitra

    Hi,
Error :unable to Load URL occurs" because Crystal xcelsius only support single schema web service created from Query as a web service and Flynet tool available in xcelsius 2008.
    The reason:
All the web service create from Sql 2005 ,PHP script produced multiple scehma web service and crystal xcelsius only support single schema web service which can be created from Query as a web service or Flynet.
Please revert in case of any queries.

  • Need to display chart in PowerView with data from YESTERDAY

My apologies if this is a very basic question but I cannot, for the life of me, find a solution to this.
I need to show ONLY yesterday's data on ONE of the charts I have on a PowerView dashboard. I also need to show Last WEEK's data (Today-7), last Month's (to date) data, and last Year's (to date) data all on the same PowerView page in different charts.
What's the best way to do this?

    Hi Micheal,
According to your description, you need to add filter to the chart of your Power View report, so that you can get Yesterday data, Last WEEK's data (Today-7), last Month's (to date) data, and last Year's (to date) data, right?
Based on my teste, when add a filter to a chart on a PowerView report, we can set the data is after a specific day. However, we cannot add expression on the value of the filter. So on the PowerView level, there is no a functionally to work around this requirement.
What you can do is creating the measures for Yesterday data, Last WEEK's data (Today-7), last Month's (to date) data, and last Year's (to date) data, and then use it on your PowerView report.

  • Firefox connects, Netscape connects, Safari doesn't!

Hi. So, this morning I surfed using Safari (which is my main browser). Everything was fine. I shut down and went to work. This evening i came home, booted up, launched Safari, and it didn't connect. My homepage is google.co.uk. Here's the error message:
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.co.uk/” because it could not connect to the server “www.google.co.uk”.
I tried various websites, similar server connection errors.
Hmmm. OK. Checked my ADSL cable was connected. Restarted my modem. Tried again. Same error.
Hmmm. OK. Shut down. Rebooted. Tried again. Same error.
Hmmm. OK. Launched Firefox. Absolutely no problems. Launched Netscape Navigator (I'm sentimental.). Absolutely no problems. Launched Safari. Same error.
Hmmm. OK. Checked everything else connects. My mail apps are fine. My internet-dependent widgets are fine. Dashboard connects. Transmission connects. Only Safari fails. So it is definitely not an internet connection problem. Safari is the problem.
Hmmm. OK. Off to the Apple Downloads page. I downloaded the latest Safari, version 3.2.1, the same version I already had. I installed Safari anew. The install went fine. My Mac restarted.
    Same error.
Hmmm. OK. Time to hit the discussions site.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Martin

    Hello Martin:
I would reset Safari for openers. Then I would trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart.

  • PowerView Drill down to details list

Great to have PowerView discussion forum. :)  Would it be possible to drill the PowerView dashbord to the details list like SSRS sub-reports.
For example: PowerView dashboard that display Yr, make, model car types, and would like to drill to details list by the type use choose from graph.
PowerView graph -> PowerPivot pivot table -> PowerPivot details list ( all on the SharePoint ) .

Note: If you want to create an item that allows you to specify a Destination URI, you should specify the URI syntax as: <protocol>://<machine>:<port>/... For example, http://www.abcompany.com/home/page1.htm.
If you want to call an Oracle Applications function, specify the function name for the Destination Function property. For example, to call the PL/SQL General Preferences page from an item, you would enter the following value for the Destination Function property: ICX_USER_PREFERENCES.
    Thanks
