Reporting Services connecting to a PowerPivot Workbook hosted on Sharepoint Online

Hi,
we developed a PowerPivot Workbook and published on our PowerBI site based on a Sharepoint Online E3 subscription.
We use it to display PowerView Dashboard and analyse sales results.
On-prem we also have a Reporting Services (stand alone installation) server where we have reports the connect directly to our datawarehouse based on a MS Sql Server DB instance.
What I would like to do is to develop a report in SSRS that connects to the PowerPivot Workbook published on our Sharepoint Online/Power BI site.
I tried following the instruction in this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg413489(v=sql.110).aspx but using an URL like https://mycopmany.sharepoint.com/sites/BI/Documents/Workbook.xlsx and the correct Sharepoint Online credentials to access
the PowerPivot Workbook, I always get a "File Not Found" error.
I would like to know if what I would like to do is possible and how to do it.
Thank you,
Roberto

Roberto,
Is this still an issue?
Thanks!

  • Error 401 while trying to connect SSRS via BIDS Report Designer to PowerPivot workbook hosted in SharePoint 2013

I am having trouble connecting from BIDS 2012 to a PowerPivot workbook hosted in SharePoint 2013. I'm following this guide:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg413489.aspx but run into authentication problems (Error 401, access denied).
I saw this issue comming up a number of times on this forum, but non of the proposed solutions really solve my issue. Also a lot of the solutions apply to SP2010. I verified the following items and they seem to be ok:
All servers / clients are member of the same ad domain.
The Excel PowerPivot file opens in SharePoint Excel Online and sliders and filters work (so connection SSAS / SharePoint is ok)
I enabled Kerberos, and fiddler/ Kerberos auth tester (http://blog.michelbarneveld.nl/michel/archive/2009/12/05/kerberos-authentication-tester.aspx) are reporting kerberos is used when connecting to the sharepoint site.
SPN for the sharepoint server is created and the sharepoint service account is allowed for delegation.
When looking at fiddler when connecting to the PowerPivot document in BIDS, i see an ADOMD.net POST request to /_vti_bin/PowerPivot/redirector.svc/ failing with error 401, even the request containing the auth cookie.
    I updated the web.Config in C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\ISAPI\PowerPivot to use CredentialType "Windows" instead
    of NTLM.
In the sharepoint logs I find this error:

    Hi Adam,
    Thanks for helping out.
The web-app is set to Negotiate so that's ok. I've reset the web.config back to Windows, but without luck.
I did see some strange log entries in the ULS logs:
Token Cache: Could not find SPSite for 'http://spserver/_vti_bin/PowerPivot/redirector.svc/?DataSource=%2Fsites%2FAndreas%2FShared%2520Documents%2Ftestrapport_13012014.xlsx'. You mentioned the claims-to-windows token service. How do i check if it is configured correctly?

  • Reporting Services connections are getting dropped by Oracle RAC

My current customer is using Oracle RAC (11g) for their data store. They currently are using SQL Server Reporting Services to connect to it. We are experiencing an issue where the connection appears to be redirected at the server which causes the connection to be lost with the client.
I am curious if this is "by design" or if we need to review some configuration settings to better handle this.
We have 3 VIPs fronting the RAC and they are all specified in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
Any feedback or input on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    I suggest you look at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/overview/awm11gr2-130711.pdf
and the similar paper from 11.1:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/overview/awmrac11g-133673.pdf
This explains the basic concept, of how clients should connect to the database, and probably clarifies your issue.
In generall Oracle will not redirect during runtime, only during connection time.
This however should not be of an issue, if you connect to a service. (You shouldn't connect to a SID since 8.1.7 anymore).

  • Sharepoint 2013 SSRS Interaction with Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services connecting to Sql Server 2008 R2 database

    Hi
I'm working on upgrading sharepoint 2010 to sharepoint 2013 with sql server 2008 r2. I've ran into some problems but have been able to get a test farm upgraded. However to run SSRS 2013 it seems Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services are required. Upgrading
to a full sql server 2012 database isn't an option. I know that sql server 2012 reporting services can use sql server 2008 r2 as a catalog and content database so I was wondering could this be a workaround? Importantly would I need a separate machine/virtual
machine to host sql server 2012 reporting services? or could it live on the sql server 2008 r2 machine? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks Dan

Remember that SSRS must be deployed on the SharePoint server. Having said that, yes you can install SSRS 2012 SP1 on a server running SQL 2008 R2. And yes, you can use 2008 R2 as your Database Engine server while SSRS 2012 SP1 runs on the SharePoint server.

  • Reports service connection restore

    Hi.
Anybody had experienced the problem with reports service not being able to restore the connection to the database after database restart.
The scenario is like this :
    1. both database and OAS reports are up and running
    2. the database is restarted
    3. after database restart the reports service i unable to connect to the database until the OAS is restarted too.
I am wondering is this normal behavior and if so is there any workaround to this issue so the OAS would not need to be restarted too.
    Best regards.

    Hi.
Thank you for your reply but as I told in my previous post the problem disappears as soon as I restart report server or the whole OAS.
The error in log file is REP-0501: Unable to connect to the specified database.
I have a filling there is a problem with report server not being able to restore the database connection after the connection is lost (for example database restart).
    Best regards.

  • Windows Error Reporting service connection failure

For some reason unknown to me, the Windows Error Reporting service has now decided that it cannot send crash reports to Microsoft.
I get the above error when I try to "Check for a solution" from Review Problem Reports Dialog. "Trying again later"
does not work. I've tried several recommended "fixes" including scanning for corrupted system files, making sure the WER service is running, and, checking firewall issues. Sending crash reports used to work, so, I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.
Can anyone shed some light on a possible cause?

Relating to the WER-Diagnostics, Vaseem posted some useful steps to resolve that issue here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/possible-heap-corruption-detected-exception-code/0657809a-a78b-48c7-9e6e-ac8ca97522c2
    Here are the steps suggested:
    Method 1:
Run System File Checker tool and check for missing or corrupted files follow the steps in the link:

    Method 2:
Open performance troubleshooter. Follow the steps in the link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Performance-troubleshooter
    Method 3:
If the above step fails follow these steps:
    Step a:
Restart computer in safe mode. Follow the steps from the link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
    Step b:

  • Xcelsius and Reporting Service connectivity

    Hi,
I want to create a dashboard for my client and it is created by Xcelsius Engage Server 2008.
I tried to link this report with original source from Reporting Services by using feature Reporting Server Button.
When I previewed it in Xcelsius Engage Server 2008, it was perfect by the mean of data has been refreshed according to its reporting services data.
But, of course we don't install the Xcelsius Engage Server 2008 in the client side, so we must export it into .swf file or others.
I exported it into .swf files and it could not load from the reporting services data.
So what I would like to asked, is it possible to be done like this?
    Or have I missed something?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
This may occur when there is a mismatch between the Report Server URL entered on the SSRS Server Location window for the Report Deployment Wizard and the SSRS Web Service Virtual Directory for the Reporting
    Services Configuration Manager.
Use the following steps to resolve the issue:
Launch the Reporting Services Configuration Manager on the server hosting SSRS
    Select Web Service URL
Copy the value entered in the Virtual Directory textbox
Paste it after the last forward slash in the Report Server URL textbox in the Report Deployment Wizard
    Continue on with the deployment
In addition, we may need to check you default web server IP is 'all unassigned', and ping the machine and see what default ip it has assigned.

    Yan Li

  • Trying to make Reporting Services Configuration Manager work. Or, SQL Server Reporting Services.

Under Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008, I have the following:
    SQL Server Management Studio
    Configuration Tools
    Integration Services
    Import and Export Data
Under Configuration Tools, I have the following:
    SQL Server Installation Center
    SQL Server Configuration Manager
SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting
    Reporting Services Configuration Manager
I tried to enable Reporting Services through 'Reporting Services Configuration Manager' but I don't seem to have much control from this view.  I see two boxes, one named Server Name (and it shows my server name) and the other is named Report Servicer Instance (and this is grayed out).  If I click on the Find box next to Server Name, I get this message:
Report Server WMI Provider Error: Invalid Namespace
    Details
    Invalid Namespace
To get the Server Name I right-clicked SQL Server > Properties > General
Any ideas on how to make Reporting Services Configuration Manager work?  Or, can you please give me more details on how to access "System control" => "Services"?  I'm not seeing it anywhere and I'm not seeing any way to find "Sql Server Reporting Services".  Basically, I'm trying to activate my SQL Server Reporting Services.
I am using SQL Server 2008 Express Management Studio.  Is SQL Server Reporting Services included in Express Management Studio?  I read, online, that it is, but I can't find it anywhere.
    Thanks again!

At the top of the page it says, ‘Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Express with Advanced Services’, which seems like this is what I’m looking for, so I downloaded the file named ‘SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe’
Then, I cut that from my desktop and pasted it in my C-drive and I get a message that says, ‘this folder already contains a file named ‘SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe’, would you like to replace the existing file?’
I’m thinking…what the heck?  Do I already have this thing?  If so, why can’t I see SQL Server Reporting Services?  Maybe I have it now, and I just don’t know how to access the reporting Services features…
    Couple quick questions:
What’s the difference b/w these two files:

    Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)
      2000.085.1132.00 (xpsp.080413-0852)
    Microsoft MSXML
    2.6 3.0 5.0 6.0
    Microsoft Internet Explorer
    8.0.6001.18702
    Microsoft .NET Framework
    2.0.50727.3603
    Operating System
    5.1.2600
Should Server Reporting Services be included in this version?  I think so!!!
Under Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 > Configuration Tools > Reporting Services Configuration Manager, I see this:
Connect to a report server instance:
    Server Name:
    Report Server Instance:
    My server name is ‘'EXCEL-4J2W8KYNP', which I got from Control Panel > System Properties > Computer Name > Full Computer Name;
However, when I put that server name in the box, and hit ‘Find’ I get this message: ‘Report Server WMI Provider error’ Invalid namespace
    Details: Invalid Namespace.
I have no idea what this means…
    Thanks for everything!

  • Flex 2 and SQL Reporting Services

I'm trying to determine if Flex can connect to a SSRS? We
currently use Xcelsius, which has a simple "reporting services
connection" element that can be setup using the SSRS url and report
parameters. Is there any way to accomplish something similar in
Flex? I've been searching all over and can't seem to come up with
    anything. Thanks!

    Hi Leon,
maybe you can use the SAP.NET Connector and save the results in SQL-SERVER-Tables or use the OLEDB Provider for SAP from NSX software.

  • Passing Credentials to Reporting Services from a iframe in a web part within Sharepoint

Okay, So I am trying to pass windows authentication from sharepoint into a tab withing a webpart that loads reporting services. Right now the users log into Sharepoint and when they click on the reporting tab within a webpart they are prompted to login again. I can't pass session variables because the reporting services is outside of the webpart and is being hosted within an Iframe. I don’t know if it is possible to impersonate or store the login credentials from Sharepoint temporally and send it to the Reporting Services log in prompt. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same question here.  I have a page viewer web part looing at a SRS report.  I don't want to have to maintain security in both SP and SRS

  • Please help!!!  Report Services

    Hi,
I am very new to Oracle Report.
I have installed Oracle 9iAS in D:\Oralce folder and Reports developer on d:\OracleReports folder.
I have created a report in JSP format and is placed in D:\OracleReports\Reports folder. Now I want to run this report using a URL, how do I do it and where shall I keep this JPS file in D:\Oracle? Will I need Report Services for this? Is it installed as a part of Report developer or Oracle 9iAS? I my case HTTP Server was installed with Oracle 9iAS but Services was installed with Report Developer. So am confused.
I have been trying this since 15 days in vain. Please revert back.
    Regards
    Archana

    RDF reports OR
JSP reports with paperlayout (optionally can contain weblayout also)
( To be safe you can create your report with paperlayout + weblayout in reports wizard)
    1) Put the report anywhere in file system in an accessible place
    2) Start reports server/ reports services
    3) Run this url
    http://host:port/reports/rwservlet?report=<full path name of report>userid=scott/tiger@dbdestype=cache+desformat=htmlcss+server=server_name
This is one of the easiest ways.
For details you can refer "publising reports to web" document for details
    html - http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A92102_01/toc.htm
    pdf - http://download.oracle.com/docs/pdf/A92102_01.pdf (5MB)
    All links - http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/reports_dev.html
In your case please refer chapter 2, 3 and 8. This servlet run can produce all output formats html, htmlcss, pdf,rtf etc
    JSP reports with only weblayout
This can be used only for JSP run (ie output will be html)
    1) For this you will need to know how to deploy an application in an Application server (especially Oracle 9iAS). You will need to package your application (jsps, html, servlets etc) in a .war or .ear file. Any good J2EE book should explain this ear packaging. Oracle 9i JDeveloper should have some wizards for making this easier. For Oracle 9iAS there will be some application server specific files (orion-web.xml and orion-application.xml for which only little modification will be required.)
    2) While deploying the application the reports specific stuff to do will be to add the rwrun.jar and zrclient.jar libraries to application path in orion-web.xml file
    <library path="$OHOME/reports/jlib/rwrun.jar"/>
    <library path="$OHOME/jlib/zrclient.jar"/>
    3) There should be a default reports demo in standard 9iAS installations . You can find that in
    $OHOME/j2ee/home/applications/reports.ear
which contains a simple reports jsp report. You can open the ear file (using winzip), the enclosed .war file (using winzip) and see the structure of the application [ Maybe even tweak it to create your application ]
    4) After .ear file creation you will have to deploy your application in Application server (using Enterprise Manager
    or JDeveloper)
Once this is done you can run using this url
    http://host:port/<appName>/test.jsp?otherParams ...
    Thanks,
    The Oracle Reports Team.
