Preloader for a scrollPane?

hey all,
i'm loading a large (250k) movie into a scrollPane, and am
having serious issues trying to get a preloader to work in any
fashion. i've tried placing the preloader in the root level, but
the scrollpane forces the 250k to export on first frame to be
functional, thus making the preloader useless. i tries also to put
a preloader into the loaded 250k movie, but that made no
difference. is there a way around this, or are users just going to
have to wait on faith for the blank scrollpane to populate itself?
thanks,
morgan

once again, i answer my own question. i found out that the
preloader wasn't working because the inherent nature of "Export for
ActionScript" necessary for amking a movie loadable into a
ScrollPane loads that content at the very beginning. if you go into
the publish settings for the Flash output and click on the Settings
button next to the ActionScript Version selector, you can set which
frame of the movie you want to expert frames for classes to. set
this to frame 3 (most preloaders take up the first two frames), and
suddenly the preloader functions fine.

    I see an pdf and flv file in the image list, remove them.
    Rewrite the code of your loading bar into one solid procedure which can be called from image loaded so you end up with three functions:
    loadImage
    imageLoaded
    displayProgressBar
    Maybe it's simpler not to display a progressbar but to display a text like XX loaded from XX images.
    I can't possibly write all the code for you but to adjust the loading bar use the image object instead of html code....
    preloadingImg = new Image();
    preloadingImg.src = "img/dot.jpg"   //whatever your preloader img is
    //To place your loading bar somewhere in the document:
    parentElement.addChildNode(preloadingImg);   //where parentElement is the container of the preloader image ( a DIV tag or whatever)
    //to adjust the width and height
    preloadingImg.height = someHeight + 'px';
    preloadingImg.width = someWidth + 'px'
    Another alternative is indeed use jQuery.

  • Preloader for pages in iWeb?

    (Please don't lock this thread)
    I know there is other threads with this topic. But They dont discuss the problem I have.
    I want to add a preloader for my pages on my website. I don't have any flash animations, I just want a preloader to appear before the page opens so that it can load before the page is shown.
    People in other threads talk about flash and how to make a preloader, thats not what I want to know. I need to know how to put the preloader on my website.
    I learned that I could put a favicon on my webpage by uploading a favicon-picture and then just add a html-code on my pages. Can I do that with the preloader? How does it work?
    /Vincente

    The chicken and the egg.
    Just put the favicon in the root of the webserver.
    Any modern browser will find it without code in a HTML page.
    Or paste this code in the <head> of the published webpage :
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="../favicon.ico" />
    Or paste this code in a HTML Snippet :
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var head = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0];
    var favicon = parent.document.createElement("link");
    favicon.rel = ("shortcut icon");
    favicon.href = ("../favicon.ico");
    head.appendChild(favicon);
    // -->
    </script>
    And what should the preloader load before the page opens?

  • Need Preloader for FLVplayback Component

    Hi,
    I'm playing external .flv videos using the 'FLVplayback'
    component. My client's complaining that they stall and stutter a
    bit when they start to stream, and wants to know if I can create a
    preloader for them.
    Can anyone help or point me in the right direction to create
    preloaders for this component? Since the .flv is not on the
    timeline, I don't know where to begin. I found some info on this in
    the Flash Help files, but it's a little over my head.
    Thanks very much

  • Putting a preloader for a loaded .swf in a Movie Clip

    I am trying to use a preloader for a larger .swf file that loads inside of a movie clip. I was wondering what code might work and where to put it. (preloader is a .swf).  I am using CS4, ActionScript 1.0.  Thanks.

    it does nothing in that context.  so use:
    container._x =-258;
    container._y =-235;
    container.loadMovie("gallery.swf");
    this.onEnterFrame=function(){
    // if you have a textfield with instance name preloaderTF
    preloaderTF.text=Math.round(100*container.getBytesLoaded()/container.getBytesTotal())+"% Loaded";
    if(container.getBytesLoaded()>100&&container.getBytesLoaded()>=container.getBytesTotal()){
    delete this.onEnterFrame;

  • Preloader for External file Template question

    I used the CS5 Flash templates>sample files>preloader for external file, to create my preloader.
    The problem is that when the preloader is done and my SWF is loaded, my SWF has already started playing.
    It is an animation that builds for 200 frames then buttons appear. By the time the SWF appears it has already gotten to the button frame.
    Depending on connection speed I have caught the animation building.
    Is there some action script I should put in my preloader or the first frame of my SWF to pause play?
    Here is the preloader action:
    var contentLoader:Loader;
    loadContent("stage002.swf");
    function loadContent(url:String):void {
        contentLoader = new Loader();
        contentLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loading);
        contentLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, contentLoaded);
        contentLoader.load(new URLRequest(url));
    function contentLoaded(evt:Event):void {
        //Optionally change to a clip holder and set progressbar visibility.
        addChild(contentLoader);
    function loading(evt:ProgressEvent):void {
        var loaded:Number = evt.bytesLoaded / evt.bytesTotal;
        setBarProgress(loaded);
    function setBarProgress(value:Number) {
        progressbar.bar.scaleX = value;
    Thanks in advance!

    put a stop() on the first frame of your external swf in an otherwise empty first frame.  when preloading is complete apply a play() to your loader's content cast as a movieclip:
    function contentLoaded(evt:Event):void {
        //Optionally change to a clip holder and set progressbar visibility.
        addChild(contentLoader);
    MovieClip(contentLoader.content).play();

  • Preloader for multiple images

    I want to create a preloader which loads multiple images at a
    time.
    i tried the normal script with getBytesTotal() but it
    provides the bytes of currently loading image, so the preloader
    only works for one image at a time.
    how can i get the size of all images that i want to load ?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the help
    I can load the images in sequence one after another. But
    there are few points to be considered here.
    1. I want to display all images at once, when they all are
    loaded.
    2. I want to display only one preloader for all images while
    they are loading.
    3. I can't hardcode the size of images because images will
    keep changing for the movie. So i can't use a particular size. (and
    hardcoding the values for dynamic data is not a good coding
    practice i guess.
    Thanks

  • Use preloader for individual frames?

    I have followed this video on how to build a preloader and I was able to incorporate it into my own site.  Now, I'm wondering now how to build a preloader for individual frames.  For example, I have a link called "Videos" that, when clicked, jumps to frame 10.  This is where I have all the videos visible in the main content area of my site.  However, I'd like to add a preloader so that as the videos load, visitors can see the progress.  Is there a way I can reuse the preloader.swf file I have already built for individual frames of my main site?
    Here is the code for the preloader.swf file which consists of a single dynamic text field located in the center called preloaderTxt:
    var l:Loader = new Loader();
    l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loop);
    l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, done);
    l.load(new URLRequest("WebsiteTest.swf"));
    function loop(e:ProgressEvent):void
        var perc:Number = e.bytesLoaded / e.bytesTotal;
        preloaderTxt.text = Math.ceil(perc*100).toString() + "%";
    function done(e:Event):void
        removeChildAt(0);
        preloaderTxt = null;
        addChild(l);

    (1)Java class name should begin with a capital letter. See: http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/
            JButton save = new JButton("Save");
            JButton save2 = new JButton("Save and add another");
            // ... etc. ...(2)Don't redeclare class members in a method as its local variable. Your class members become eternally null, a hellish null.

  • I need a preloader for my website

    Hi Experts.
    Can someone point me to good tutorials and/or instruction videos that solve the following problem?
    I am building a website that will have many images and several movies created in my CAD software as ".avi" files, then re-saved as Quicktime ".mov" files.  The largest movie is 60.8KB.  They will be located on more than one page on the site.
    Here's a link to the site in progress: http://www.integra-living.com/rht
    I need a preloader that runs automatically as my site splash page opens, and loads all that stuff while displaying a progress indicator of some sort.
    I also need tips on whether the best strategy is to use CSS, Action Script, or some other coding that will work for most browsers and does not subvert optimization or do other mysterious bad things.
    Thanks very much for any help.
    Richard Talbott

    Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do, you don't need a preloaded for embed movies.  The page will load without any delay.  It's not until the user chooses to play a movie will it begin downloading / streaming it from the server.  Even if the video is a large file, internet users are use to this type of scenario where they choose to play a movie, ala youtube and others, that if their connections are slow there may be delays in video playback.  With all that said, I have seen and used page loaders where visitors will be expecting to wait a while for a result to happen, I just don't think this scenario warrants it.

  • Preload for a video

    I'd like to make a preloader for a flv playback, so while
    waiting for the video to load, you can have the preloader. so what
    I did was put the flv playback inside a movie clip, wich has as the
    first frame the preloader and as the second frame the flv playback
    (which I call as instance myVid). But it doesn't work, it stays in
    the first frame with the bar loaded and never goes to the second
    with the movie clip. Maybe I shouldn't use the normal code I use to
    make a preloader for a whole site. Anyone can help?

    What did seem to help however: when updated to Mavericks, Safari also had added a function to have flash items turned off to save energy. So every banner etc. didn't start at first. I had to click the banner about saving energy to activate it. This became bothersome so in Preferences I turned that function off. In the Info button next to it there where several mentions of websites where I previously had activated the use of the flash plugin by clicking on that energy saving bar. Among with was Youtube. I just completely emptied that and restarted Safari. Now when visiting Youtube, all videos prelaod like they should and video's don't stop after 10 seconds for a while anymore. Maybe it's a coincicence, but I tried several unseen video's and they all behave normally again. So next to deactivating '
    afari Power Saver – Click to Start Flash Plug-in' and emptying the Info button next to it from all previously activated websites using the flash plugin, that seemed to do the trick for me.

  • Advice please for creating a preloader for an AIR app

    Hi.
    I've developed an AIR app in flex and all I want is a preloader for when the app is opened.
    I've ready plenty of the tutorials online - but most of the tutorials are geared towards <mx:Application> not <mx:WindowedApplication> and I
    can't seem to get them working using the <mx:WindowedApplication preloader=" ">.
    Coding the actual preloader isn't the issue i'm just having problems running it from the AIR app.
    If anyone has any tips for me that would be great!
    Thanks.

    you could use a mx:Window in order to create a splash window.

  • Flash MX Preloader for external JPGs

    Hey all! Any help would be greatly appreciated. In all
    honesty, I have searched and studied and worked to get this myself,
    which I do alot with code, etc. BUT I am going to admit I'm a "make
    it pretty on the outside" kind of guy, and coding makes my eyeballs
    fall out and well, honestly, I just don't get it. My brain can not
    wrap itself around this. Sigh! So I could use your help a little.
    This is what I'm wanting to do. I have a website,
    www.luxeillustrato.com, and if you go to the portfolio area, and
    click on any of the sections (take fine art for example); it will
    showcase my works by loading external jpg files each time you click
    the forward arrow button.
    You can see I have preloaders on the site, that work fine. My
    main page has a movie target with the instance name of photoM. You
    click "artist", and it loads a new swf file into the photoM target.
    IF you click on "portfolio", "fine art", it loads the fine art swf
    file into photoM, using a preloader. THEN, if you click on the
    forward arrow button, a new jpg image of my work is loaded into the
    fine art movie target with the instance name of just
    photo. As you can see, you have to wait until the jpg image
    loads (and you start to wonder if it's doing anything.)
    The problem is, it is not preloading the external jpgs, it's
    just preloading the fine art swf. My preload code is currently:
    stop();
    onEnterFrame = function () {
    totalBytes = _parent.getBytesTotal();
    loadedBytes = _parent.getBytesLoaded();
    percent = Math.ceil((loadedBytes/totalBytes)*100);
    gotoAndStop(percent);
    info_txt.text = percent+" %";
    if (percent>=100) {
    _parent.gotoAndPlay("inter");
    I already have the preload animation bar created (as you can
    see on the site.) What do I need to do to alter the code above (or
    replace it) in order to have the external jpgs be preloaded as
    well? For example's sake, let's just say I have four jpgs, titled
    "door.jpg", "orange.jpg", "boyfriend.jpg", and "untitled.jpg" (in
    case these are needed for the code. They may not be.)
    I hope this is easy to understand. If NOT, just tell me. I'll
    simplify. And seriously, thanks!

    put a stop() on the first frame of your external swf in an otherwise empty first frame.  when preloading is complete apply a play() to your loader's content cast as a movieclip:
    function contentLoaded(evt:Event):void {
        //Optionally change to a clip holder and set progressbar visibility.
        addChild(contentLoader);
    MovieClip(contentLoader.content).play();
