Preloading a video

If I use something like "member("myVideo").preLoad()" to get
a video
loaded, is there any way to determine it's loading progress?
I'd like
to show a progress bar as it's loading, but I don't know how
to tell how
far along it is in its loading process.
Thanks,
Matt

Is this for the web or for a projector? If this is for a
projector then
there's no need to preload. The only thing that will be
preloaded will
be the header information. That's something like 130 bytes
and so it's
meaningless. Director uses a guest application, QT, windows
media, Real
player, to play video. The video file streams through
Director on it's
way to the guest player. The more available memory, the
smoother the
playback will be. You may want to purge as much memory as
possible
before you play a video, but with most computers having 512
meg to 1 gig
of memory, this isn't really a problem anymore.
If you are working with a shockwave file from the web, QT
video will
stream from the server in much the same way as it will from a
local CD
source. Look at tech note tn_14016 for more info on that.

  • Preloader with video template (screens)

    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/vidtemplate_corppreso.html
    I am using this video template (above); it uses screens.
    everything is working great. but i would like to add a preloader. I
    have tried moving my keyframes to frame 10 to make room for a
    preloader, but I keep getting a blinking screen when i test.
    what is the correct way to do this? thank you.

    most likely you have components (or other objects) that are
    exported for actionscript and loaded before your preloader is
    displayed.
    to remedy, as pallav implied set export to some frame other
    than 1 if you don't need to use any of those components etc in the
    first frame.
    however, that is not done in your library. click on file,
    publish settings, flash, settings and change the export frame for
    classes.

  • Percent preloader for video flv's?

    How do you code a preloader for an flv video that has a play
    head that starts as the preloader is running then the video starts
    playing? like on the following site in their work section:
    http://www.natl.tv/
    thx

    CAn someone help? I can't figure out what code to add so it
    shows the video buffering for 10-15 seconds, shows loading video
    text then starts playing the video.
    ANyone please?

  • PreLoader/Slide video buffering issues

    Hi I am experiencing problems with my project that uses a mixture of slide video and standard Captivate content. The course preloader displays, the content starts to play then, on a slide video, slide the video will stop and the slide video pre-loader will appear before eventually restarting. I don't think it's a band-width thing because I have tested it on a very good connection and the same thing happens.
    What I really want is to get the main course pre-loader to include FLV slide video file size in it's assessment of what has to be loaded - to avoid the FLV slide video buffering and showing its own pre-loader.
    Does anyone have any thoughts?
    I have tried the solutions offered here http://forums.adobe.com/ but unfortunately this introduced other issues.
    Also is there any way of changing the default “loading …” text that comes up when a slide video does need to buffer ?
    Many thanks for any help

    Slide Video FLVs dont get loaded in the pre-loader. Since the videos could be so large, they are loaded only when encounterted in the project (just when video is being seen). You will usually see a "loading..." message here.
     Please try this best practices for frequent buffering problems - Many customers resolved similar problems with it by calculating actual video sizes mathing your network capability.
    Adobe Captivate 5.0 & 5.5 * Best practices to use slide videos effectively
    Regarging customizing the "loading..." screen - this is not supported at present.

  • Embedding edge animate video - endless Preloader no Video -- Updatet!

    Hi,
    i do a simple test with the Edge Animate Video-Tutorial on my FTP-Server. With a simple Play/Pause Button and a Video(mp4/ogv).
    I add a preloader image at the beginning and i center the whole stage.
    After i publish and upload the web folder to my FTP-Server, i get the animated preloader image in the Browser Window in the top/left corner and nothing else(endless Preloader animation).
    Only after i press 1 to 3 times the reload Button, i get the right animation and the video play if i press the play button and the Stage is centered. Everything works then fine.
    Safari, IE9, Chrome and Firefox have the same behaviour.
    What is wrong???
    You can do a test here: ultimate trail video
    Best regards
    Dirk

    Hi Darrel,
    i have deleted the preloader and updated the animation to my FTP-Server, now it works fine on Chrome, IE and Safari except of Firefox. On Firefox i have to press reload one time.
    What can i do??

  • Auto start video on iPad

    Does edge 2014 have an auto start feature that works on the iPad? I have it working perfectly on the desktop and laptop. I do not want to show video controls either.

    Hi there,
    Unfortunately, the longer answer is "no". iOS and most Android devices require video playback to be initiated by a user event such as touch, click, swipe, etc., and not the autoplay (nor preload) attribute.
    While there is a workaround shown in the above link, it still requires a user action to play the "dummy" video element before a different video src can be attached to the element, and there's no way to preload any video on iOS, so there likely will be animation synchronization issues as well. Circumventing the built-in limitations of these devices can also have unexpected consequences for the viewer on a cellular network (possibly incurring data charges without their knowledge - that's general reason given why these devices don't support autoplay of video and audio elements).
    If the mobile platform is important to you, the better way is to design your site in such a way that a user event is required to initiate video playback, or provide controls to the video element so the user can choose to initiate playback.

  • Adobe AIR for Video Wall project - the right tool?

    I need to decide whether Adobe AIR is the right tool for a Video Wall project. The Video wall would be one of only 4 installations.
    It would need good offline capability.
    The application would play back both canned video as well as twitter feeds.
    The other option is to go all HTML with perhaps the Canvas element to display video, graphics.
    I'm biased towards using Flash, AIR but am open to new ideas.
    What are the pros, cons of each approach?

    Pros of the Adobe route would be a little more control and reliability. You can easily go fullscreen, preload other videos easily in the background and display them on the hardware GPU decoded StageVideo (with the right video card, almost all of them at this point). Twitter feed loading would have some robust error handling to assure it goes smoothly but if you need offline capability you'll need some canned material for the feeds in that situation.
    HTML can go fullscreen but the caveat would be drawing your twitter feed over the video at that point. Because it's fullscreen I don't believe you can have your text over it from a <video> element but you'd need to use <canvas>'s fullscreen and actually mux the text into the video.
    The long haul of Adobe's roadmap clearly states video and games are the future of FP and AIR. I've done tons of kiosks in Flash and AIR, many of which just act as a video wall, attracting people to very large screens. I've had nothing but success doing this. I'd only even approach HTML5 if you have some reason to desire to put this on the web, and even then, Flash is still fine in that situation too.

  • Preload full FLV file with a preloading elements

    I have a client that would like for the full flv movie to be preloaded to the end before it starts to play also they would like to some sort of preloader.
    I can do this with a normal swf however I don't know where to begin with something like this.
    I would like to use the FLVPlayback component if possible.
    Thanks for any suggestions or help,
    Chris

    I don't know that you can connect more than a single iPod at one time to a computer. I seem to recall you can not.
    As to preloading the video, if you set each Nano to manual updating, then the video will stay on the iPod when they plug it in. But if they change their setting for the Nano to Auto, it will then be removed.
    How big is the video? One option is to ALSO load it into the drive portion of the iPod (when you set to Manual or set to Enable Disk mode) the Nano will show up as a drive on your computer. You can load any files in there you want like any other computer drive. If the clients change their iPod to auto updating, the version on the "player" section (the playable on the iPod part) will be removed, but the video would still exist in the Nano on the drive area. They could move it from the drive of the Nano and populate it into their own iTunes library if they wanted to sync the video back to the "player" part of the iPod to view on the iPod.

  • Videos on website won't load/play immediately

    hello everyone,
    i've been trying to find an answer for a week now but without much luck.
    using adobe flash catalyst, i recently created a website with 20 uploaded videos (FLV format; ranging from 2mb ~ 40mb each) and when you click onto any one of them, they will load and play. but here's the problem - they won't play immediately (won't load and play at the same time, WHILE being downloaded in the background - unlike youtube), and most of the time when you click on a video, you'll have to wait (the loading bar won't even start downloading until a good 20-30 seconds after clicking play) while some videos load and play immediately.
    my question is, what do i need to do so my videos will load/play almost immediately after clicking play, while simutaneously being downloaded in the background? is there a way to preload my videos?
    i understand i'll need flash builder to code all this?
    i'm new to making websites and i would appreciate all the help given.
    kenny

    Drat! You might try looking through the Flash Builder forums to see if they might have a video playback tips. There might some property that Flash Catalyst is not exposing or something in the app itself that needs to be changed.
    If you have Flash Professional, you could try creating a simple FLV player using it and see what the performance is like from the server.

  • Preloading specific content

    Hey, was just trying to make my site more efficient when its online.  I have an image/video gallery.  When the thumbnail is clicked, an image or video will be displayed in the container I have.  Currently, the code is like
    var data:XML;
    var total:Number;
    var url_list = new Array();
    var full_loader:Loader = new Loader();
    var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadData_completeHandler);
    loader.load(new URLRequest("bin/assets/Work/XML/bigImages.xml"));
    function loadData_completeHandler(event:Event):void
        event.target.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadData_completeHandler);
        data = new XML(event.target.data);
        total = data.image.length();
        for(var i = 0; i < total; i++ )
            url_list.push( data.image[i][email protected]() );
    function clickHandler1(event:ThumbnailEvent)
        removeLoaders([full_loader]);
        var full_url = data.image[event.item.id][email protected]();
        full_loader.load(new URLRequest(full_url));
        aa.addChild(full_loader);
    Within the clickHandler is where the thumbnails are loaded into their bigger image or video.  The images load fine, but sometimes the videos are quite slow to load.  So I thought it might be possible to preload the videos outside of this event.  So, at the top, could I do something like
    full_loader.load(new URLRequest(path_to_video));
    And if so, will it be in the cache or anything when it is loaded again within the click event?
    Cheers

    you shouldn't be loading video.  you should be progressively downloading video into an flvplayback component.
    but you can preload bitmaps and swfs and they will be cached so later calls to load them will retrieve them from the cache.

  • Looking for a director consultant

    Hello there!
    I'm not sure if this is posted in the right place; if it's
    not, please don't flame me -- just let me know and I'll remove it.
    I am an academic, working with two colleagues to produce a
    DVD-Rom for the academic market (we have a publishing contract with
    a University Press). The project is basically a "chapter" format
    with forward/back controls and a main menu. It includes Quicktime
    video.
    I'm the person responsible for actually authoring the project
    in Macromedia Director, but I'm only an English professor, i.e.
    enthusiastic amateur! I've got the files mostly assembled, but I'm
    not confident of my ability to produce a fully professional title.
    We are looking for a consultant to help us out with these things:
    *** Working out how to implement a "bookmark this page"
    function.
    *** Work with me to understand what I need to be aware of
    while completing the files. This might include giving me advice on
    scripts to use for successful memory management, advice on what
    quicktime codecs to use, advice on any other scripts I should
    understand (e.g. how to change monitor res, preloading flash &
    video, quicktime detection etc.).
    *** Advice on how to pop up full-screen video, what Xtras I
    will need, where to get them etc.
    -- we are funding this through a university grant which
    expires on November 30th, so the work needs to be invoiced by then.
    We are also on a *very limited budget* by your standards - about
    $6000.
    If you think you can help, email me at

    Thanks for your time.

  • Streaming issues

    Hi all,
    I'm streaming (progressive download) video with no
    soundchannel so I can stream voice-overs in the chosen language.
    Doesn't work well. Either the sound plays, it plays to late, it
    plays a small bit and stops, doesn't play all together. Sometimes
    the video stops when the sound kicks in, then plays again. And this
    occurs with only one small video in the FLVPlayback and a small mp3
    for the voice-over. I'm starting to think that this won't work at
    all. So, will I need to edit the video to contain the
    voice-overs... any thoughts?

    So you need to 'buffer' both the flv and the audio.
    You can 'buffer' the progressive download by keeping the
    FLVPlayback in pause while checking the current percentage
    downloaded.
    EDIT: Oh sorry I see you're preloading the video already
    For the audio, I'm not really familiar with it as I said...
    just haven't done much with it by itself.
    In terms of using cuepoints to trigger the audio, you just
    want it to start at a known synch point I would imagine, and make
    sure you have enough of it to continue smoothly in parallel with
    the flv.
    Cuepoint accuracy for what you're doing is probably 'quite'
    important. Hard-coded cuepoints are more accurate that AS
    ones...but you can improve the normal situation for AS cuepoints:
    {livedocs excerpt}
    ActionScript cue points are accurate to a tenth of a second.
    You can increase the accuracy of ActionScript cue points by
    lowering the value of the playheadUpdateInterval property because
    the component generates the cuePoint event for ActionScript cue
    points when the playhead updates. For more information, see
    FLVPlayback.playheadUpdateInterval.

  • Preloader only fills 1/2 way before the video starts

    I am very new to Flash CS4, however I was able to create a preloader with help from a Dan Carr tutorial.
    Here is my source:
    import fl.video.*;
    import fl.controls.ProgressBarMode;
    // Set Variables
    var flvControl = display;
    var flvSource = "op.flv";
    // Create event handler functions to control the progressbar
    function progressHandler(event:VideoProgressEvent):void
       var bl = Math.round(event.bytesLoaded/1000);
       var bt = Math.round(event.bytesTotal/1000);
       // Update progress...
       pb.setProgress(bl,bt);
    function readyHandler(event:VideoEvent):void
       // Remove progressbar when we start playing...
       removeChild(pb);
    // Set progress bar state
    pb.mode = ProgressBarMode.MANUAL;
    pb.indeterminate = false;
    // Add listeners and load the video
    flvControl.addEventListener(VideoProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progressHandler);
    flvControl.addEventListener(VideoEvent.READY, readyHandler);
    flvControl.source = flvSource;
    Here is an example of the video:
    http://orthopreferred.us/test/ortho/op1.html
    The movie loads and plays but the preloader only loads part of the way. How would I go about having the preloader progress bar load all the way then have the movie start?
    Thanks!

    I have tried your code change and the progress bar still does not completely load. It goes just a bit the the video appears.
    I edited the fla to this (see bold):
    import fl.video.*;
    import fl.controls.ProgressBarMode;
    // Set Variables
    var flvControl = display;
    var flvSource = "op.flv";
    // Create event handler functions to control the progressbar
    function progressHandler(event:VideoProgressEvent):void
       var bl = Math.round(event.bytesLoaded/1000);
       var bt = Math.round(event.bytesTotal/1000);
       // Update progress...
       pb.setProgress(bl,bt);
    function readyHandler(event:VideoEvent):void
       // Remove progressbar when we start playing...
       removeChild(pb);
    // Set progress bar state
    pb.mode = ProgressBarMode.MANUAL;
    pb.indeterminate = false;
    // Add listeners and load the video
    flvControl.autoPlay=false;
    flvControl.addEventListener(VideoProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progressHandler);
    flvControl.addEventListener(VideoEvent.READY, readyHandler);
    flvControl.source = flvSource;
    flvControl.play();
    //end
    Progress bar barely moves then the movie appears and plays.
    See example:  http://orthopreferred.us/test/ortho/op1.html

    The videos appear jumpy for people with slower internet

  • Can I preload videos to a new ipad for a corporate client?

    Hello Everyone,
    I have a corporate client who is looking at distributing about 300 units to their clients and want a marketing video preloaded. The marketing video would be a corporate promotional video they want to give to priority clients.
    We have had requests on this in the past, but it seems that ipods/ipads need to be connected to itunes before they are used, and a connection to itunes would personalize the ipad. So it would seem that we would have an issue in putting a video on an ipad and then duplicating that setup.
    Could we create a master backup and apply/restore each unit with the video before they go out?
    Do you have any ideas?
    Frank

    Thank for the response.
    In the past I've checked into this on iPod Nanos and was given the recommendation to load the movie to the drive portion of the iPod (Enable disc mode). Is that a function that is available on iPad?
    With repsect to your response on contacting Apple, we haven't really gotten anywhere with them directly, as our 300 pcs. doesn't amount to much with them in the big picture. I'll give it a shot though and see if their response has changed.
    Thanks again!
