Premiere Audition workflow

I have a current edit in premeire that i have sent to auditon, can I edit the audio in audition and then if I change the edit in premeire send it back to auditon and updat my current audition changes.... say I am making minor timing changes in the premiere edit

See if any of these offer some tips.

• It seems like leveling in Premiere obstructs the Audition workflow

I’m moving my FCP7 and Logic workflow over to Premiere with Audition which thankfully has been an improvement.
Still I have questions: In my workflow I always need to send out previews before I do a proper audio mix in Audition. Mostly it’s just leveling some parts of the music so dialogue is audible. Later in the project, when it’s time for a more detailed mix in Audition and select “edit in audition” in Premiere. The clip with the different music levels just acquire extra attention instead of speeding up the proces.
Since it’s faster to do proper music fades in audition by key-framing the entire track instead of doing it clip by clip, I always put the music leveling back to a constant level in premiere before export. So ideally what I’m looking for is something like:
A way to move all the automation of the clips to the volume enveloppe of the track and have a paste attribute function like in Premiere. So I can at least set the leveling straight quickly in Audition instead of Premiere.
Or a way to link automation from one clip to another so I can at least use the leveling that’s done in premiere.
I was wondering how other users handle this?

I'm sure it's not quite the sort of solution you want but my way around this is to simply not do any audio leveling/mixing in Premiere. I do it all in Audition. If I need a preview copy (and I often do) I just do a mixdown of the rough adjustments in Audition and send that mix back into Premiere as a track in it's own right--I then mute everything except the Audition mix and make my preview copy.
This leaves the audio in Premiere in raw, pristine quality and gives me the option of either working from my rough mix or just starting from scratch with a new transfer from Premiere when I want to do the final mix.
I'm not sure if this is the best way--but I've been using Audition for years before transitioning to PP on the video side and it just feels comfortable to me.

• Premiere Pro and Audition workflow problem (urgent!!!)

Hello! These is my problem: I need to Edit clip in Adobe Audition but with many clips of an interview, fix noise problem, save and back to premiere whit those clips remain linked. There is a way to do this?
I use CS6 version!
Sorry for my bad, really bad english! Thanks!!

Master Collection, Production Premium and Creative Cloud should include both PP and Audition.

• CS6 Premiere Pro Workflow

In the limited time I have, I am attempting to learn Premiere Pro and have working through the CS6 tutorials that creativecow.com have to offer. However, it would be a great help if I had a better idea on the workflow (in simple terms) such as:
Set parameters
Import files into Project Panel
Open each file (one at a time) in Source Monitor for adjustments i.e. (In and Out points)
When all files (Clips) have been edited, bring them into the timeline from the
Project Panel, or
Source Monitor, or
Either one?
Make final adjustments to footage on the timeline
Move to SpeedGrade for color adjustment's
Move back to Premiere Pro for rendering
Editing of footage is finished
Questions:
1. Could someone give me a suitable workflow similar to the example I give above (if not correct).
2. Also, it seems that all editing of any footage can be done in either of the Source or Program panels, is this correct, and if so, why 2 panels?
Thanks

Open each file (one at a time) in Source Monitor for adjustments i.e. (In and Out points)
When all files (Clips) have been edited, bring them into the timeline from the
Project Panel, or
Source Monitor, or - YES! Do this as you work on each one in the Source Monitor.
Either one?

• Final Cut Pro X to Premiere CS6 workflow destroys FCP X events

Hello,
I just got a call by a customer who tried to convert and FCP X project via XML to Premiere CS6 for a further AfterEffects workflow. He experienced the following problem, which I can rebuild completely. These are the steps:
1 - Export an FCP X project which relinks to transcoded optimized media to XML
2 - Convert the XML (.fcpxml) with Xto7 app to legacy XML (.xml) format
3 - Open Premiere CS6 and import the XML (.xml)
4 - Close Premiere CS6 and open FCP X and the exported project
FCP X warns immediately that something has been modiefied. This is just an information which I can only accept. All the clips that were optimized are reded out and marked "Modified File". Now do the follwing:
5 - Try to relink the modified media and chose the optimized media file in the transcoded media folder
As soon as you accept the relink FCP X deletes the file in the event library and ALSO in the Original Media folder AND in the Transcoded Media folder and moves both files to the trash. This could be destructiv, if you are working on a SAN storage, like an EditShare system.
But even if you are able to restore the files and move them back in place, there seems to be no chance to relink the files in FCP X to make your project working again. As soon the relink comand is executed the files will be moved to the trash again. If I do not try to relink, the files keep marked red and as Modified Media. If you have a look in the metadata, you will see, that they have been modified by Premiere, which seems to cause the trouble.
Does anyone has a workaround or working handover to AfterEffects? Or does anyone else encounter similar problems with XML or third party apps destroying metadata within FCP X files?
Appreciate all solutions!
Btw: This only affects transcoded media. Every time I worked with original media only, the handover to Premiere works undestructive, but the media was pending in Premiere until the app crashs.

Finally I solved the problem by myself, doing a deeper web research.
Actually it's Premiere CS6 or AfterEffects which adds some metadata to the clips, that causes FCP X to ignore those files and shows them as "Modified media". But - and that's the good thing - you can turn off this behaviour in AfterEffects or Premiere. Here is how:
In AfterEffects
go to Preferences > Media & Disk Cache and uncheck the boxes refering to the XMP metadata
In Premiere
go to Preferences > Media and uncheck the box "Write XMP ID to Files on Import"
Those XMP metadata help CS6 to share media cache files and previews and may improve stability and performance but if you are in a more FCP X based workflow, deactivating this option may prevent from loosing media.
A fast check with the same procedure discribed above went well and everything stays untouched and online in FCP X.

• Premiere HDV Workflow (After Effects CS3 too)

I'm working with a Sony HDR-FX1 and Premiere Pro CS3 to capture my HDV clips - in mpeg format.
1. I'm looking for the best way to edit these HDV clips in Premiere. I have heard of CineForm's Neo Scene and I was wondering if I NEED this to edit the HDV clips in Premiere or not. If I don't need CineForm, are there any alternatives to editing the footage in Premiere or tips on speeding up the process?
2. Please note that I will be working between Premiere Pro & After Effects (both CS3) and back to Premiere so I'm also wondering what type of file I can export from After Effects to get back to Premiere. Will I need the CineForm codec for this step as well? I'd like to export to a file where I won't lose any quality or compress my video when bringing it back into Premiere for editing.
3. I noticed after importing one of my HDV clips into After Effects it's separated by Upper field first. Will I need to export with Upper field no matter what format I use when rendering from After Effects?
Any tips, links or tutorials on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Foochuck

Although not absolutely necessary
Cineform prospect HD & adobe cs3 ( premiere & after effects) works very well together. The CFHD format gives You a fluent workflow and is cleraly recommended.
( and this codec should have been implemented as part of "the adobe package" - just like native drivers for P2 and EX1 - but thats another discussion)
( btw : anything less than 2.1 - 2.4 core_2_duo will be a pain without CF as I see it)

• After Effects to Premiere HDV workflow... never been answered!

Step 1 (Caputure Video)
Camera: Sony FX1
Captured format: mpeg, 1440x1080, interlaced, 29.97
Premiere cs4 Timeline: HDV 1080i (1440x1080)
-This is all fine and dandy works like a charm, clips play on the timeline in realtime, no red-bar, no yellow-bar, no-nothin
Step 2 (After Effects Time:-)
Import Clips Into AE CS4 -the same untouched mpeg that came right from the camera
Edit, Animate, Composite, Colorcorect like a madman -This goes GREAT i love AE, its why I wake up in the morning
Step 3 (Render...Back to Premiere)
Trying to find a video format out of AE that will play on the Premiere timeline just like the original mpeg OMG WTF VPO etc...
-I have tried and tried and tried to find a format that works natively in the premiere timeline out of AE and my health is seriously degrading because of this... Please for the love of God can someone finally give me a usable formula?
TY,
[email protected]
PS. Sorry about the omg and wtf... idont even know what those mean, i just seen it on TV one day
PPS. I realy do know what it means

As Rick said, you can pretty much forget step 3. DV, HDV, DVCPro, AVCHD etc. are merely acquisition formats that are generated/ encoded by special signal processors in your camera and then transferred as a data stream to your computer when you capture. On one hand that is why you can play them in realtime at all on your comuter, but on the other hand, because they are all compressed, it doesn't exactly make sense for anything else and so nobody goes through the trouble of writing software encoders for them. Using intermediate formats is common everywhere and that means you use Animation or PNG compressed Quicktime files and similar and let your edit program do the encoding for RT playback. Or you use commercial, highly optimized capture and intermediate CoDecs such as Cineform and Sheer. On that same topic, realtime also depends a lot on your hardware specs, most critically harrdrive performance. If it is really driving you crazy, consider buying a RAID system. A simple external eSATA RAID with 2 disks can be had for 150 Euros, 4 disk RAIDs start at 250 and the latetr can deliver sufficient data rates to play uncompressed HD in realtime. Another thing to consider would be to use a dedicated capture card such as a Blackmagic Intensity, Matrox MXO or AJA Kona and exclusively rely on their hardware acceleration and CoDecs. As you see, there are enough options, it merely depends on your budget. Naturally, if you have no room for investments, you will have to make compromises and learn to adjust your workflow accordingly.

• Auditing workflow changes

Is there a way we can audit the workflow changes made by the users.
We are giving the workflow web aministration responsibility to few users.i want to create a report to track when these users makes changes(like approving, rejecting or editing) to the other users Iexpenses or iprocurements.
Are there any tables to track these changes.is there any standard oracle report to track these changes.
Thanks in advance.

Just one sidenote:
<old_value>[clob here]</old_value>
Depending on what could be insider the clob, you might consider using a CDATA section <old_value>[<![CDATA[clob here]]></old_value>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDATA
For you question, I would strongly consider option 1). For the audit trail I would leave out all clob data, maybe only show that something was changed there.

• IMovie to Premiere: Best workflow for tricky situation?

Hello, I tried to make a cool title to drag you guys and girls in and possibly find a solution for me. Maybe it is not a super-tricky-situation, but for me it is
I have just started working with Premiere, and I love it. I am right now working for a client that is very particular with the editing and he has done it in iMovie. He just wants me to do the finishing touches, grade, effects and export.
I have a complete mirror of the material he uses in iMovie on my own HDD, and i started to read about exporting to FinalCut XML and then importing it into Premiere, however my client does not have that "XML" option. I also took a quick look to see what can be done to export from iMovie but i found no good solutions on his PC.
Now the trickiest thing to do, which would be really time consuming is to simply ask him to render it in any format he wants, send to me and I'll drag it on top of my timeline with an opacity of around 50 % and then I'll just search for every clip (from my HDD) to try time his in and outs and lay it under his edit.... Just writing about this gives me the chills because it sounds like a very slow process.
Have anyone of you been put in the same situation and would you guys know any easy way to solve this.
Worth mentioning is that my client also has Final Cut Pro 7 on his PC, and possibly one can open an iMovie-project in FCP, export as XML or maybe just render it in some kind of lossless codec where i can use the blade tool in Premiere to make my own "edits"
What would you suggest, any help would be much apprechiated.
Best regards

{quote:title=AppleMan1958 wrote:}I would not convert them to h.264, because if you re-use, you will have a generational data loss as your reconvert to AIC.{quote}
Are you sure I will have to reconvert to AIC? I tried putting H.264 encoded clips into events and iMovie seems to deal with them the same way. Just editing (selecting, scrubbing) is a little slower.
How do you suggest storing home footage?

• After Effects - Premiere Pro workflow question...

Hi,
I have a basic question about workflow between AE and PP.
I'm editing an acting reel for a client which deals with a lot of different footage and bits and pieces here and there.
We already converted all the footage to DV-AVI - tweaking, color correction and effects are done in AE.
Here's the question that I'm thinking about:
Should I work on all my footage in AE first and then import it into PP for editing OR should I edit everything the way I wanna have it and then import it into AE for the tweaking.
Advantages for both options that come to my (newbie) mind:
AE first then PP
1. Final editing is done in PP which gives me flexibility if I wanna change things later editing wise
2. PP exporting options are huge - don't know if AE can compare to that
3. could import to PP via Dynamic link which saves me the hassle of exporting each little clip from AE to a lossless format - as mentioned we have lot's of different footage and little bits and pieces here and there
PP first the AE
1. if u apply a lot of effects, Dynamic link is a pain to scrub through the footage in PP because it takes so much time to render through the link - with exporting a final edited version from PP and then importing into AE would make things go a little bit smoother
2. I would have more flexiblity if I wanna change any effects in AE
What would u suggest ?
Thanx for your help in advance !!
Mike

Mylenium,
thanx again for your input.
Reading your posts - and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong - it seems like the workflow would be:
1. PP for rough cut, then
2. AE for tweaking
3. back to PP for the final cut, export etc., since AE does not have the editing tools needed (transitions etc.)
But, as I did some testing the last two hours it is almost impossible getting PP projects into AE.
I read the manual and tried the following:
a. importing a PP project file into AE via the Import --> File dialog.
I specified only one PP sequence to be imported - it did import all of the footage of the PP project (including the footage that is not needed) and it imported 3 (not one) sequences, including the one I specified.
Besides that, the sequence is unusable - the in & out points of the footage are totally wrong - the transition I applied (dip-to-black) was unavailable.
I re-tried it without transitions but the in & out points of the footage are absolutely wrong.
The sequence deals with two different clips - both used 3 times in the sequence - and the first clip is okay in AE, but the second clip always (at all three points) starts from the start of the original footage.
b. I tried to copy & paste footage from the PP timeline to the AE timeline - which did not work.
As described in the manual, I did save that AE project and I did select the timeline in AE. I tried it through Edit --> Paste (which was unavailable), as well as through Ctrl+V. Did not work.
It seems to me like Dynamic Link is a One-Way-Street, it does work from AE to PP but not the other way around, at least not usable.
I had a thread about this a couple of weeks ago and other users experienced the same results.
I'm thinking about doing the rough cut in AE, the limited editing tools from AE should be okay...

• Red Epic and Premiere CS6 workflow issues

Hello!
I'm looking for some advice or insight regarding working with RED footage in CS6.
In the past, I've worked with native RED footage on CS5.5 with no hiccups whatsoever. I'm not sure if it's CS6 or my computer's processing power, but RED footage has become uneditable for me.
After I updated to Yosemite, I began experiencing problems with being unable to import RED Epic footage due to "unsupported or corrupt files," and when I tried to fix the problem with the Adobe Labs plugins, it reported a "generic importer failure."
I then uninstalled and re-downloaded CS6, and now I can get footage into my project, but I can get no playback at all! Both the source and program monitors remain frozen on a frame and then have the yellow "Media Pending" screen. When I attempt to render a clip in my timeline (RED HD 4K 23.58 sequence) I get an "error compiling movie" box. I've tried other sequence settings, but still no dice.
I have my source monitor playback set to 1/2 resolution and my program monitor set to 1/4 resolution. Still nothing.
Here are my computer specs:
MacPro 2010
OS X 10.10.1
2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Processor
32GB Memory
ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU
Blackmagic Intensity Pro (Desktop Video 10.2.3)
I know that I can process the footage in REDCINE-X Pro (which will take a million hours), but I have a major project that is all shot with RED Epic footage and I was counting on Premiere's ability to edit natively, since I'm kind of on a tight schedule.
Am I looking at some hardware upgrades? If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Hi Hannah,
I see you posted on Creative Cow too: CreativeCOW
Update to the most recent version of CS6.
Make sure your GPU has more than 768 VRAM.
Try a previously installed version of OS X.

• Is there a feature in Audition CS6 similar to Soundtrack Pro's Conform Projects

Hi All,
I'm new to the forums so I applogize if this is a repeat question, I could not find it during my searchs. I have a video project that I sent from Premiere to Audition, did my sound mix and sent back to Premiere. There was then a requested change to change the timing of the video, causing sound timing to change as well. In Soundtrack I would send the updated sequence to soundtrack, conform projects, and then my filters, effects, and other modifications would be all back in place. Is there a similar feature or way to accomplish this in the Premiere/Audition workflow?
Thanks!
Mark

Nothing in Acrobat, as emailed forms simply arrive in your regular mail client.
You could create a dedicated mailbox for the form, and set an auto-responder on your mail server - but that's all.

• Exporting layers of audio from After Effects cs6 to Premiere / or Audition? Is this possible?

exporting layers of audio from After Effects cs6 to Premiere / or Audition? Is this possible?
Help - I have an After effects project with multiple layered files and want to copy these to Premiere / Audition. For example I know if you select multiple video files from After Effects these can be pasted straight into Premiere intact - but this does not work with audio. I want to take existing layered audio files from After Effects to Audition / or Premiere but can't copy and paste - is there a simple solution for this?

Hi thanks Dave for responding - yes that could work as a 'workaround' - I was hoping there would be a way I can keep the existing independent audio layers and corresponding audio levels from After Effects- in the same way I can copy and paste video files from After Effects to Premiere - rather than exporting a flattened AIFF /WAV from After Effects.
This would then allow me a lot more control working on the final edit - especially as currently a lot of the audio layers overlap. It does seem there is no simple solution for this, so otherwise I can do what you suggest - and 'stagger all the audio files' in sequence so they do not overlap on the timeline and then when I import the flattened exported AIFF file into Audition/ Premeire / I then can cut it up again and recreate the overlaps. Was hoping there might be a simple copy + paste method or other 'export method' but I guess this is simply not possible. It would save me about 7 hours of work, but not the end of the world I guess
One final point - some of the audio clips are .mp3s but the majority are WAVS, hopefully this should not create any issues on the export.
thanks again for your help, if you or anyone has any other solution pls let me know
Best

• Pro Noob: CS6 Workflow - Coming From Premiere Elements

I have a question about workflow for Premiere Pro, specifically how to adapt my Premiere Elements workflow to Pro.
Currently, I'm using Premiere Elements to edit years' worth of home movie DV-AVI footage. More than once, PRE has crashed and left my project in an unrecoverable state (meaning I lost all the time I spent) so on the advice of some very wise Elements forum members, I developed the following workflow years back:
1. Open a new project
2. Import the next 100 DV-AVI files to be worked on (I import my tapes using SceneAlyzer which splits each scene into a separate file, so each file = 1 scene)
3. Cull the clips, plop them on the timeline, do the usual transitions / audio / music, etc.
4. Save my project about every minute (seriously, Ctrl+S is my best friend)
5. When I get to the point where I'd be uncomfortable if PRE blew up and I had to start my project from scratch, I export entire edited project to DV-AVI
6. Go back to Step 1.
When my exported DV-AVIs (from Step 5) total around an hour, I'll open a new "master" project, import all the "Step 5" exported DV-AVI files, plunk them down sequentially on the timeline, add menu markers, etc. and burn a DVD.
Now transitioning to Premiere Pro, I'm wondering
1. Has anybody ever had a Pro project get corrupted and become unuseable? It seems like one big project might be easier to work with, but I definitely have an aversion to "putting all my eggs in one basket".
2. Can I (or should I) use Sequences to accomplish what I was using multiple projects for in PRE? Sequences are new and foreign concept, and seem pretty powerful - like maybe I could use them in place of my "mini projects" in PRE. But unfortunately they are pretty much glossed over in everything I've read, e.g. the Adobe "Classroom In A Book" gives them maybe 1 page.
My #1 priority is not losing work. After that, whatever is easiest for dealing with the literally 1000's of files I have to go through...
So what's everybody's real-world / best practice advice for converting my Element workflow to Pro?

OK, I took a look at some of those resources, and read some more of the PP help. I think I have a much better understanding of what sequences are!
One "aha" moment came when the PP Help PDF pointed out that each sequence has its own separate, distinct timeline. I think part of my confusion was that in Premiere Elements, you just have a (single) timeline and all your clips go there. But in Pro, you can have multiple timelines. So in Elements, the timeline is by project (conceptually at least, not sure about technically), whereas in Pro the timeline is by sequence.
What was really helpful was a screenshot where they had 2 sequences in a project. And each sequence was "opened", so in the timeline frame, there were 2 timeline panels - and each panel's tab was the name of the sequence. I didn't realize until then that Pro could have multiple timelines, so that really illustrated how a sequence maintains its own timeline.
I even managed to grasp how in addtion to regular clips, a particular sequence's timeline could have other sequence on it, resulting in nested sequences. I'm not what would happen if you start trimming a nested sequence, but at least I get the concept.
So with a new and improved understanding how what a sequence is, that still left me wondering how people use them.
It seems one reason for sequences is when you different video types, say a project with DV-AVI and h.264 footage you'd create a sequence for each video type.
Another reason seems to be if you want to re-use a sequence. But I'm having a hard time thinking of an example where you'd want to do that.
Another reason seems to be simply to keep things organized and compartmentalized.
John mentioned he uses only one sequence. That would seem to be similar to how Elements does things.
Jim mentioned that he had a project with 1500 clips of one type of video, but used several sequences. So, I'm curious what each sequence was. How did you decide what a sequence should be?
How do other people use sequences???
That really clarified things, because Elements has no such thing - it has one timeline, period. Seeing how each sequence had its own distinct timeline made it come toge

• Premiere Pro & Audition tifferent time settings and cant edit anything correctly.

In Premiere Pro i put video, edit it in After Effects but audio in Audition.
When all is correct then i speed up video in Premiere pro but since audio speedup is shi-bad therefore i speed up in audition BUT ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET CORRECT TIME LINE IN PREMIERE TO PUT IN IN AUDIOTION.
In Audiotion Effect/Time and pitch/Strech and pitcher when i put same speed as in Premiere, Audition does the opposite.
Thats one fuc-bad bug/difference. Ok. So then ill try to hover with mouse video i just speed up lenght in Premiere. Hovering gives in, out point times and total time of clips leght. Right? Maybe.. couse if i put that lenght in Audidiotion as desired legnght, clicked save and ctrl+s alt+f4 and see in Premiere.. THEN IS SOMEHOW A LOT SHORTER THEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.
In Idiotion i can change time settings and none helps.
In PremiProion i can change to audio time and that isnt corrent also.
Even just opening audio in Audition from Premiere without speed up they show whatever you change a different times.

Clip with Video/Audio i put in Premiere
Divided
Video clip right click replace with After Effect composition.
and what i do in premiere doesnt matter couse lenght i ckeck in Premiere hovering over other example video (to see the lenght witch to write in desired Audition speed up couse in audition 115% speedup is speedown for any illogical reason)
So Original ivdeo/audiot i speed up to see leght hovering with mouse over
BUT in Audition it shows ( i dont care what it shows i just need to put correct value in percentage in Audition but since that also doesnt work i need to know correct leght)
SO how long video i need?
In premiere audio original leght witch is now open in audition
OR in speedup settings
LOL WUT? Different duration bug also and doesnt change ANYTHING couse differences allways were for one clip- too long for other too short when using times from premiere.
SO 115 % eh? If we dont look then all is fine and i dont care what is in premiere in end and i dont need to read that duration is now too long. I would automatically just save export and then in hollywood only see something was wrong with this premieridiotion software but not my assumtions.
Ok since i saw that 115% in premiere now turnet too long..
I check whats wrong for some time. Then i try all again slow and i see there duration.
Ok i enter duration witch we now check in premiere (where else?, the clip is shortened in premiere)
AND NOW ITS TOO SHORT
Heres time settings. NONE SHOW EXACT LENGHT OF AUDIO SAME AS IN PREMIERE
SO what are time FPS in Premiere? Whats the difference? Shouldnt they work at least on some standarts?
ps. also adding to bug of ****** Premiere audio speed up and solution bugs in Audition, here another bug- YOU CANT ENTER THIS CUSTOM FPS SPEED AS I SEE IN PREMIERE IT WANTS TO WORK WITH AUTOMATICALLY 24,81 fps
AND WHY WOULDNT THEY BE AUTOMATICALLY SYNCHRONIZED if audio is LINKED TO PREMIERE???
