Preparing Files for Emailing

For quite some time I have used Dreamweaver but only for
showing images of simple pages with basically an image in the
middle of the page for customer see see a design for a package or a
page in a brochure. Because of this I have not learned the finer
points of using Dreamweaver. Now I have a customer that would like
to send quality looking emails with images and web links, etc. Is
there a particular subject that would be a good starting place for
me to search in the Dreamweaver book or on the web?
Thanks, Gary

Not only is MailChimp (www.mailchimp.com) a good system to
deliver
email newsletters and manage the subscriptions, they also
have some
very good documentation.
(Thanks for the recommendation, Murray! My client has her
first issue
via MailChimp just about ready to go.)

I want to send a pdf file which is 8 mb, it has bounced in an email because it is too big, how can I reduce the size of the pdf file for emailing?

Sometimes a simple "Save As" will reduce the file size slightly, but probably not enough to pass the <8 mb threshold of your recipient, as you need.
You've probably seen it, try the next option in the Save As menu, "Reduced Size PDF," and make it compatible with the latest version possible, again considering the recipient. This suggestion assumes Acrobat X. You don't say which version you're using, but this tool was available at least going back to Version 8, but in a different place, you'll have to hunt.
If all that doesn't work, you could remove some images from the source document, which also will reduce the overall size.
    Best luck.

Does anyone recommend a good graphic utility to prepare files for the web?

GraphicConverter as noted by Don, or Photoshop Elements are the favourites. Both will allow comprehensive editing, and save for web facilities including reducing the .jpg quality to shrink file size without making the picture smaller.
There is a free application calld Gimp (open source) but I don't know how good it is or whether it's updated for Lion.

  • How to compress a file for email

How do you compress a video file for an email?

    Hello,
Yes I have no doubt the code is messed up
I guess I should start from the beginning. Here is the original code below for the form code that I recieved from
    my hosting Company to use.
However all I need is the email field and a submit button and not the other fields. That is probably how
I managed to mess up the code, I was trying to take out the other fields, line it up etc and most likely did a pretty
    good hack job.
I tried this original code and yes your right it really did mess up the side bar terribly.
Here is the original code my hosting Co gave me before I made a mess out of it.

  • Auto preparing file for printing Feature (extension)

do you know extension or plug-in for auto preparing a file for print?
I have a bunch of calling cards, flyers, brochures and etc.,
and I manually setting it up for print over and over again, sometimes I forgot 1 or 2 steps of doing that like missing cutting guides.
now I'm looking for that feature or similar, I know this is not impossible.
    I have a idea but I don't know codes.

    Hello IanHP8500,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're having an issue getting your Officejet 8500 scanning on Windows 8.1. I will do my best to help you with this issue.
Did you upgrade to 8.1 from an older version of Windows?
If so, with it not scanning correctly. You can try just removing the HP Solution Center from programs and features.
Go to the bottom left corner of your screen right click on the Windows icon> go to Control Panel> Go to Programs> uninstall Solution Center if it's listed.
Next, instead of using the printer install wizard. Download the software from this link: HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver. Let it run through, it should prompt to " add more software". This should allow you to reinstall Solution Center.
If you run into issues, there is something you may have to do. If you get a file missing error here, or the install hangs check your computer for the following.
McAfee Live Safe - Disable the "Realtime Scanning".
Check for and remove HPOINS*.dat or HPWINS*.dat. Here is a link to a post by JonW on how to do this: Re: installer setup hangs under Windows 8.1.
Try all of this, and let me know how you make out. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Compress video files for email from iPod

I manage an ipod Lab for an intensive English school. We want students to be able to email themselves larger audio and video files from directly from the iPod without having to go through iTunes/iPhoto. We often run into the problem with files being too large to email and are wondering if there is some sort of compression app that we can install on the iPod that will let us compress large files down for email. Something like ESFileExplorer for Android.
    Thanks,
    jHart

Video and audio files are almost impossible to compress with a separate general-purpose compressor application. Such compressors just don't work with the way video and audio files are structured and usually make a video or audio file larger, not smaller; they can't shrink the file size and just add unnecessary overhead. The only effective way to shrink a video or audio file is to re-encode the file with a lower bit rate, smaller frame size (for videos) or both. I don't know if there's any app on the iPod that can do such re-encoding, and even if there is, unless these videos and audio files are quite short, it's probable that they can't be shrunk enough to get through most email systems which usually have very low attachment sizes allowed, often on the order of 10 to 20 megabytes maximum.
A cloud-based storage solution such as Dropbox may be the only practical solution, though I'm not sure what video and audio apps would support saving to such as service. Someone else here may be able to offer suggestions.

  • How to get pics off of adobe .pdf file for emailing.(mac computer)

What happened: I got copy place to scan 8.5x11 pages that had 2-3pics on each. They scanned in as .pdf file which I open with Adobe reader and see 8 pages of several pics on each page. I'd like to be able to drag or copy off pics from these pages so I can email to others, but I cannot find out how to do this. I saw under the readers TOOLS the submenu of "select and zoom" and submenu "snapshot tools" and tried that and it shows "the selected area has been copied", then what do I do? I try going into email program (mac computer and using Thunderbird email) and the "paste" is greyed out. I try opeining iPhoto and same greyed out PASTE option. WHEre can I paste it to after using that? It won't go to desktop either. Is there any other Adobe program that will make this work on a Mac computer? Thanks ahead for ALL help!

Adobe supports Macs for 99% of their applications. I'm not sure where you found that information.
Photoshop isn't an inexpensive application so you may look in to buying the less expensive version of Photoshop Elements.

  • Use PHP to convert html page to a pdf file for email

I want to use my php scripts to send an email (with a pdf attachment) of the web page that is being viewed.
My problem I have no way to convert the html page to a pdf file without the end user being prompted to (1) naming the file (2) saving it
Is there a program or a way i can save the html as "auto_name.pdf" file on the server without user input?
I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional on server

There are lots of good Html to Pdf conversion tools for developers, both free and paid. I'd suggest to take a look at PD4ML Html to Pdf converter - it has lots of features (CSS support, page layout presets, etc.) and can be obtained for free for non commercial usage. There is also a topic at Stackoverflow with a list of such converters.

  • Preparing files for printer - no CM requested, image resizing

Using InDesign CS3 504, on Mac OSX 10.6.
I'm approaching the end of preparing a 40pp A4 magazine for a client.  In about one week I'll be submitting my file to the printers who are UK based (I am UK based, too).  I'm looking for the best set up to help them get things done accurately and efficiently.
My printers have requested that there be no Colour Management.  I'm used to working with CM through CS, so I'm not certain what to do in this case.
Here's what I've done so far:
All colour swatches used are CMYK Process
All images are CMYK/Grayscale and have been saved with no colour profile
InDesign still has CM turned on - I have read that 'Emulate InDesign CS2 CM off' doesn't really switch it offAll images that get brought into InDesign show the colour profile from my InDesign CM in the Info palette (Euroscale Coated v2)
I also need to Export to PDF for them.  What's the best setting for me to use for this?  Should I be choosing 'No Colour Conversion' and 'Don't Include Profiles'?
I also don't understand if I need to resize my images to 300dpi at 100% size used (the printer's requested resolution for actual size output).  This would be a relatively small job though, as there aren't that many pics.  If I do this, would I Export to PDF with no Image Compression?
    Thanks.

I'm going to give you my 2 cents worth here.
First, you don't need to size the images in Photoshop, you just need to be sure that the "effective resolution" that you see in the info panel is at least 300 ppi. If it's much more, downsampling at export is appropriate, if it's a lot less you need a larger image to start -- upsampling in Photoshop isn't going to improve things. 200-225 ppi is the lowest I'd be comfortable with for commercial grade offset, but it depends on the paper and linescreen.
As far as color management, you are correct, emulate CS2 CM Off is not a good way to work. My impression form what you've posted is that the printer wants no clor profiles embedded in your files to avoid the possibility of having his RIP do a color conversion that would do something bad, like make your 100% K type a 4-color mix.
There are several ways to approach this. The best, in my opinion, is to find out what the correct output space is going to be. Assign that as the working space in the document. Native objects and untagged imports will be treated as being in that space. Imports with embedded profiles will their colors adjusted to maintain the appearance in the tagged sapce, as closely as possible. I think this is better for photos, since I want them to look correct, and they don't have 100% single channel colors that will cause a problem, so I always embed the profile in photographs, and I have my color management policy set to preserve profiles.
On the other hand, vector logos, may want to be printed with the same mix of ink all the time, regardless of the color profile, especially if they have black type or strokes, so I tend not to embed profiles in those when saving. They will be interpreted then as being in the working space.
At export you can then either leave colors unchanged (if there is no RGB), or choose the working space as the target profile, and your CMYK values will be preserved. Do not embed profiles in the PDF.
If you have the wrong working space you can expect some color shifting on press.
Next best would be to work in whatever working space you think is correct and picking convert to to profile (preserve numbers) and choosing the correct target when you find out what it is. In that scenario any native objects and untagged imported images will be treated as if they are already in the destination space and the numbers will be unchanged. If your photos or linked graphics have embedded profiles, those profiles will be honored and converted to the destination. This should give you the same result as the first method, but puts off the need to know the output space until export.
My main reason for preferring the first method is that the screen preview is going to reflect the working space, so if that matches the destination you'll get a better idea of what's going on.

  • Any tips on reducing saved pdf files for emailing?

I have an imac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I want to send a particular company 2 pdf documents I have scanned and saved to the desk top. The email keeps bouncing back. I have reduced the two attachemnts to one- but that doesnt work either. I cant seem to find a way to reduce the size of the pdf attachemtns. I read on line to go into Preview, file, export and choose the reduce option there- but if I go inot Preview, file - I dont have an export option.
    Any solutions gratefully received.
    Thanks
    Rarmy

Those are almost certainly scans embedded within a PDF container file.  Either transfer the files via Dropbox or another file-sharing service, or re-gengerate the scans using lower resolution scan or (maybe) changes to the contrast settings in the scanner, or try compressing the scans (if the scans are not already compressed, as various tools that wrap scans in PDFs will attempt that).
FWIW, I'm going to guess that this question isn't an OS X Server question but more likely a question involving 10.6 and mail, and you're not looking to adjust the maximum mail message size quotas for the mail messages traversing the mail server within an OS X Server system.  If you are, then that's usually via Server Admin.app or Server.app or manual commands issued at the Terminal.app prompt, depending on the version of OS X Server involved.

I am pretty much a newb when it comes to it though, and recently I had to send some logos to a printing company, in order for them to laser-print the logos on some pens. They replied back to me, saying that the logos needed to be "broken into curves" before they could go ahead and print them.
I have no idea what that means, and I've been on Google since early this morning, looking for an answer.
    Can anyone help?

The grads are likely to be problematic. The printing method may be foil-based, transfer-based, or screen printing, which often require line art (artwork free of halftone dots), especially at small reduction sizes. That's one reason why it is commonly best to avoid contone artwork (grads, blends, raster-based tones) in proper logos.
And it's one possible reason why the imprinter insists on its being "broken into curves" (a very poorly stated requirement). He probably means having all the elements provided as closed paths so he can apply solid fills. (Text converted to paths; nothing in the clover leaf being dependent upon overlapping objects, for example if the white in the clover leaf is actually done by separate white-filled paths.)
Generally speaking, you don't want an output house having to modify your files. You should consider it your responsibility to deliver files suitable for the intended repro method. It is quite common that the technicians working at an output house may be experts in their particular media, but know next to nothing about preparation of the artwork files (as is suggested by the poorly-stated requirement).
That's why "as far as I know" doesn't cut it. An office copier is a "laser printer." But obviously, you can't run a writing pen through an office copier to have it imprinted.
There are, however, many writing pen models commonly used in imprinted specialty marketing which involve a paper insert behind a clear pen barrel. The imprint is just printed on paper, and can be printed with ordinary "laser printing" devices.
At the other end of the spectrum, it is also quite common in imprinted specialty marketing to employ what is technically a laser engraver which actually uses a laser beam to etch a design into a metal pen barrel, or to expose a light-fixed coating.
If there is one, provide a web link to the specific vendor and the specific pen model you are trying to design for.

  • How do I reduce the size of a PDF file for emailing?

I have scanned a document on my Canon Printer.  The size is very large about 14 Megabytes.  I do not know how to reduce the size so that I can send it via Mail.  I have searched HELP but have not as yet found an answer.  One suggestion was that in my Mail window there is an option to reduce the size of the attachment but I see no such option in my email.

Another option for sending large files is to use :
    http://www.filedropper.com/
You upload the files to the website and it creates
a URL that you can copy and paste into an email
which you send to the recipient and they use the
generated link to get the file.
