Preparing for APEX 4

Concerning the best practice for upgrading to the upcoming version 4, what is the preferred course of action?
We are currently at version 3.1.2.00.02.
We have not upgraded to 3.2 since we would not use the new functionality.
When version 4 arrives, is the plan to be able to upgrade from our current version, or will it be necessary to go to 3.2 first?
Just asking so we are in the best position to upgrade in the future.

Hello,
I don't work for Oracle, so I can't speak authoritively....
However historically new releases of APEX have had an excellent track record of providing an upgrade path from older versions, in other words you didn't need to be on version X-1 to upgrade to version X, you could infact be on version X-2, X-3 etc.
So, in short I would say upgrade to 3.2 if you need to (bear in mind that 3.2 had some security patches and other features - it wasn't just forms conversion stuff in there), there has also subsequently been the 3.2.1 patch which again patches some things that may or may not affect you.
If you don't want to upgrade to 3.2 then I can say pretty confidently that you're going to be able to upgrade to 4.0 from your current version. I certainly haven't seen or heard anything to the contrary that the Oracle team are planning to break with their tradition as far as upgrades go.
Hopefully one of the Oracle folks will jump in and give you a 'real' answer to this.

Preparation for APEX Certification 1Z0-450

Can anyone who has taken the APEX Certification explain the nature of the exam (multiple choice? build an actual application?) and suggested preparation?

LoL. i got my certificate yesterday, appearantly it was laying in a desk somewhere at work for months already :-)
Since the exam opened up again i have been trying to motivate some collegues to apply for it aswel. Because of this i have been trying to remember some of the types of questions that were asked.
So far i've come up with the following types of questions:
Themes & templates:
This would be things like what is the best way to apply a theme to all applications in a workspace.
Creating label templates for things used in page often (<hr> with 100% width for example)
Object Browser, and Query builder:
How to make a joined query using the query builder without selecting the column that is being joined on
Tabs:
How to work with them, and how to display them conditionally
Security:
How does LDAP work, how does an access control list work?
Interactive reports:
How do you add a column to a report and make it visible to all users
Other reports:
Master detail, Calendar
You always have to pick one or more answers from a list. Some of them are a little confusing, and if you would really like to "practice" for the exam the only advice i can give you is try to go trough the process of creating all types of regions at least once, so you know in what order the steps come, because that is the thing you will probably hesitate most about :-)

'Dumps' is short for Brain Dumps and these are not valid preparation materials. Using them can cause you to be banned from the Oracle certification program.

I have a 27 in. iMac with the latest version of Snow Leopard. When Lion comes out, will it be software I purchase and download online? I am trying to prepare for cost and don't have a point of reference, having been a Windows guy until last summer.

I want to know what to expect in terms of moving from one OS to another. Having been a Windows guy until last summer, my only experience is going from one version of Windows to another, which is usually a fairly costly purchase. I will want to go to Lion, but as a retired teacher, my income is fixed. I am not looking for a specific price, I am sure that is unknown, but I would just like to know help Apple does these things so I won't be sadly surprised.

Historically Apple has sold OS X upgrades via DVD media however with the advent of the Mac Apple Store that throws another possibility into the mix. That's about as much as I can say as these forums don't allow us to speculate about future products. As for the cost historically Apple has priced OS X upgrades between $29-$129, the last upgrade (Snow Leopard) was only $29 but that was an exception. Again we cannot speculate on these forums about that. The good news is that Apple is unlike Microsoft which makes OS upgrades expensive and complicated. The choice with OS X is do you want a server version (most users don't need one) or a single computer license. The users that buy server versions tend to have a number of Macs they manage from a server, most consumers don't have this issue.
Keep reading the news, as you know Apple has announced a Summer release for Lion.
Upgrades on OS X are usually very simple. I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and each transition has been very easy. With any major OS upgrade there are some basic rules to follow, for example always, always, always backup prior to any update. When Lion is released to the general public post again for what to do to prepare or even do a Google search on "How to prepare for OS X upgrade" and you will find a number of articles that will provide some suggestions and valuable insight. You can also re-post here and users will be happy to assist.

When sharing iMovie11 project with iDVD inmediately message 'the project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (Error in user parameter list). Finalize issue?

When sharing my 60 minutes iMovie project with iDVD inmediately message 'The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (Error in user parameter list)' appears. Could not find the user parameter list, so I've no more info about this error.
Option File - Finalize Project gives inmediately the same errormessage.
Also option Share - Media Browser - Large/Medium/Mobile give the same errormessage.
Please advise, thank you!

I have just loaded iLife 09 on my MAC. I've edited a movie and now want to export it, put it in iTunes, whatever I can do to move it beyond my laptop. No matter what option I choose under Share I get the same error message, "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-2009)". I can find the error message online, but not the (-2009) error code. I'm also a longtime PC person who has just switched to a MAC. Can anyone help?

I also am having the exact same problem. iMovie '09. I have tried changing permissions on all sharing folders, exporting to desktop, sharing to iTunes in all size files - and yet still get "Unable to prepare project for publishing. error (-2009).

8229 isn´t present on any of the both Mailboxservers.
The affected Database is active on Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server and in an overall healthy state. I found during my research, that below Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server, there are not removed shadow copies present!
This confuses me, since all Backups are normally taken from the passive copy of a Database.
So my questions to the board are:
* Does anyone is facing similar issues?
* Can someone explain why snapshots are present on the Mailboxserver hosting the Active Database, whilst the errors are logged on the passive one?
-          * Does someone know the conditions, why shadows copies remain and
aren´t removed in a proper manner?
What can cause the circumstance, that only 1 DB is facing such issues?
Any suggestion is welcome!

I´ve encreases VSS / Exchange Backup Log levels to expert, before starting
those things i´ve all tried now:
- Backup from passive DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from passive DB without GRT enabled (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
- Backup from active DB without GRT enabled(forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
All those attempts failed.
But brought some more details - the backup against the active DB states, that there is still a backup in progress and therefore this backup is cancelled by VSS.
The Solution was, that i´ve needed to restart the Exchange Replication Service on the Mailbox Server hosting the passive DB.
Backups are working again on all DBs!

I want to implement an «Custom pagination for APEX 4.2 interactive report» using a «page zero».
I recently migrate from Apex 3.1 to Apex 4.2 and my «Custom pagination for APEX 3.1 interactive report» using a «page zero» is not working any more.
So now I try to adapt an excellent example of Jari Laine for 4.0 but using a page zero.
I put the code JavaScript to Page zero but I must create an dynamic action to fire only for an interactive report region.

Thought I would try once more with my DatePicker question.
On the Apex.Oracle.Com website I have created a 1 page application that has an Interactive Report.

I have 2 questions :
(1) In IE7, press 'Actions', 'Filter'. On the Column dropdown list, select 'Order Timestamp'.
Notice the prompt icon to the right of the 'expression'. This should change to the Datepicker, but in IE7 it does not. Try the samething in Firefox or Chrome and the Datepicker will appear.
Is this a BUG, or does Apex 4.02 not support IE7 ?
(2) In Firefox or Chrome, where you can now see the Datepicker, you will notice that it is the new style picker, not the old style ( called 'classic' ). I want to change it so that it shows the 'classic' datepicker not the new, but cannot see how to do it, if indeed you actually can.
I would really appreciate it if someone could take a look and let me know if I am going mad, or if we need to get all our users onto IE8. We have now gone live with Apex 4.02 and need to resolve these issues.

Strictly speaking you do not need Application Server or OHS for running Apex, you have an option in ApexListener. If it is a small installation then stick to EPG that comes built-in.
Try downloading the Oracle HTTP Server from here . You will need to check the commercial aspects yourself as OHS is not a free software for Production environment, AFAIK.

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

Updating Page Sentry for APEX 4.0

I've found this forum and the regular posters and mods to be extremely helpful, so this post is more of a give-back, I hope. We recently upgraded a dev system of apex 3.0.x to 4.0.2 and ran into some issues where our use of some Page Sentry auth code that's been floating around a long time became a problem for us in terms of properly managing session state, URL forwarding, and acceptance of URL parameters for setting the value of page items in session.
I've posted [an article on our blog|http://zetetic.net/blog/2010/12/10/updating-page-sentry-for-apex-4-0-upgrade/] explaining the whole thing in what is probably very boring detail over here, and if you're so inclined, we'd love your feedback. But just so there's no need to go anywhere, here's the page sentry we ended up implementing, which makes some pretty significant mods to the old page sentry to account for what we perceived as changes in APEX's behavior somewhere in our move from 3.0 all the way up to 4.0.2.

Thanks a lot for this great info. It seems to have solved the problem I have been having with an NTLM page sentry function for the last 2 or 3 days. Very difficult stuff to debug what is going on inside these functions when they (obviously) behave differently once you have logged in etc.
As I said, your solution seems to solve my problem - but I have a couple of questions :
1. Is this related to 10347091 which is mentioned on http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/downloads/apex402knownissues-189793.html ?
If yes, did you try the patch?
2. Have you logged a bug or had any feedback (externally or within the forum) from Oracle people on this issue?
I was about to log a bug regarding the deep linking and FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL not behaving correctly when I noticed the known issues and now your valuable work. I was going to try the patch, but I'd rather not apply it unless I know it will solve my problem.
Please let me know.

Unfortunately, not much to go on here. There are any of twenty different reasons why backups are not occurring, and no shortcuts that I know of to find out why.

Got the following error while trying to share my project:
"The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-108)"
I got this error everywhere: share to idvd, share - export movie ...
Computer: MAcbook Pro 2.3GHz Intel Core I5, memory : 4 GB (when I start exporting the available memory is about 2Gb, no other app runing)
Softwer: Mac OS X 10.7.2, iMovie '11 9.0.4 (1635)
Project: 50min, filmed with Gopro 960HD

Most recently there's been a series of errors -49 being posted to the Discussion Group. I've seen one other -108 error that showed up but without any resolution. The original poster hasn't replied yet to that mesage thread. I don't know if the two are related, but they both have a negative effect on exporting. So I'm going to suggest following the fix for the -49 errors:
This requires using the Terminal app, in your Applications/Utilities folder
To turn off Time Machine snapshots type in the following command:
sudo tmutil disablelocal
The Mac will likely ask for your password, so type it in and hit the return key. The type the word, exit and hit return. Quit Terminal.
Open iMovie and try doing another export and see if the same error message pops up.

Can you give more details? What exactly is the entire error message text? there should be an error number too. Are you trying to finalize this to an external disk?

I called Apple under my Mac support contract. They were completely unfamiliar with the error you and I were encountering. Updating to 10.8.5 didn't help.
I'm stopping my TimeCapsule while I perform these tasks, but I don't know yet if I have a consistent work-around.
